just got my oneplus over the weekend and i notice most of the custom roms have alot of lag for me. no matter what mods, tweaks or kernels i flash. the scrolling mod fix did help but i just don't feel the device is very smooth coming from my htc m8. any suggestions or thoughts?
More information about your set up. How and where do you experience lag would help.

Yeah this would really help.
My bacon setup. is really fast with zero lag (better than the M8), so I am not sure what setup you have right now that would be causing this...
Scrolling lag. Opening and closing apps. Just overall sluggish. Right now im on mahdi rom with the auxx kernel. Stock speeds. Zen + smartmax. Tried many other roms and configs. Was even worse when i was on the ak kernel. The only roms that dont lag are the alpha 5.0 roms.

Do you do full wipes between ROMs, and did you have this lag on CM11S before you started going custom?

Yes i always wipe. Might hard reset and flash factory. Start over. See if that helps.

Yeah that is really odd, I mean I get nothing but smoothness on this phone with pretty much every ROM I've used, currently on the latest Carbon nightly...
My device also lag so much, to the level when there can be 2 sec delay when I scroll on home screen with nothing open (only Google apps installed). The weird thing is when I first got the device is seems ok, then flashed 5.0 Alpha and then a couple of other ROM like PA 4.4.4 and then back to stock. Now even on stock (100%), I am still getting so much lag it is unreal. Some other issues: sound breaks when watching youtube, and sometimes screen freezes and phone reboots.

I haven't had any problems for the longest time.. but......
well my problem is very random. recently i have picked up lag. for the longest time the ROM was nothing but smoothness. now there is lag. i reboot it and it goes away and shows up the next day.
i took the extreme measure of wiping everything and reflashing the ROM. but still I am encountering the same. Oh and I am "Stock" on minfree settings in Venom tweaks
Did anyone of you experience this as well? While rebooting is not a big deal,i would rather not do it. Any help is hugely appreciated!
Thank you....
Lag issues have been discussed on the ViperXL thread quite a bit. Just search the thread using the term "lagfix".

Thanks Redpoint.
I downloaded the lagfix app. it finishes running in under 1/2 a minute but it doesn't seem to fix the issue. I just backup-ed and restored the ROM. not sure if the lag will show up tomorrow.
Someone did suggest un-checking the infinite scrolling in Venom Tweaks, Let's see if it fixes it.
If your SD card is pretty full, this will also cause lag on ViperXL, and some other JB ROMs. If you have less than 1 or 2 GB free, try clearing up your SD card.
I also have this problem and only on viper and it starts a few hours after install I can't seem to do anything to fix it so I have given up on the Rom

Thanks Redpoint. I have 9GB free on my SD card. But to report on what I see in the past 24 hours - no lag whatsoever after the backup and restore routine.
Another thing which I did was uninstalled Bulletproof Kernel. For some reason, I feel my phone is more reliable with the stock kernel and I do not know much about the kernels to try Elemental.
EDIT1: Sad to report that the lag when scrolling between screens has returned. running lagfix did not help
I had the same problem. Full wiped, flashed 3.2.7 then 3.2.8 update. Stock kernel, uptime of 36 days and still fast as hell.

When you say full-wipe, did you wipe the storage and android secure? or just the Cache, Dalvik Cache, Factory Reset and System?
PS Rooting for the Aussies to thrash the Pommies.
Do you use Google+ on your phone? I have discovered that, if you open Google+ and do as much as BROWSE your photos swiping left or right to go next/previous, it will trigger major lag, especially on home screen, until you reboot.
Its a pretty major bug that happens on Sense. I have to browse my photos by only looking at thumbnail view and opening by tapping on them. No swiping left or right or it will trigger the bug and it gets pretty bad.

Thanks. unfortunately, i did not use google+.. i just flashed cyanogenmod nightlies and it is buttery smooth. not sure what is causing the lag in ViperXL. and i absolutely love ViperXL.. it has always been good to me. I just wiped everything in the "Wipe" menu and restored it using Nandroid back-up..
and have been getting lags ever since...

Restoring a nandroid basically negates the wipes you just did (aside from maybe wipe cache).

Are you running a custom kernel? If you're using ElementalX, do NOT enable zram. Disabling zram and changing minfree to stock completely rid my phone of any lag whatsoever.
I'm having the exact same issue with Viper on my evita -- only swping between homescreen and exiting to home screen lags. I've seen this with Nova, Apex and Action Launcher. Reboot solves it temporarily but the lag comes back after some time, from a few hours to several days.
For me, this is literally the only issue on Viper. Rom is great on every single other aspect!

So recently, I flashed stock 3.2.7 and OTAed to 3.2.8. works great. no lag whatsoever. I thought why not flash bulletproof. I flashed the 1.3 version which is on the venom hub. and you know what the lag came back.
i have heard people say this - not all devices are the same. like for some there was a navigation crashing issue and for some it worked flawlessly. (why this happens is a different discussion altogether).
So maybe our devices don't do too well with custom kernels!
First off that's an old version of the kernel.
Second, I don't suggest flashing kernels from venom hub
Factory reset should be done prior to flashing a kernel so if you did not....

exad, before i tried flashing 1.3 from the venom hub i did flash 1.4. here is the thing, i absolutely hated DTtW. my pocket detection wasn't the best and i would get random button pressing.
but here is the thing, i didn't do a factory reset before flashing the kernel. doing it now. will report back with results
EDIT: Almost immediately after installing the kernel the lag returned!
EDIT2: After a day of no lag, it returned first thing in the morning
Conclusion: No more custom kernel for me, unfortunately. At least not on Sense based ROMs

Yes, ROMs like Clean ROm are usually very smooth (though not to my taste) because of a custom kernel.

I was thinking of unlocking and installing something like AOKP. I want mostly vanilla android, but stable. I don't need too many crazy things like OC, but just something that runs very smooth and doesn't have major bugs. (Aka: not stock Asus)

I've tried different custom ROMs already, from CROMi, to CM, to PACMAN, to SlimBean, and now AOKP. So far I am happy with AOKP, the ROM just recently became available for tf300t. All the custom ROMs were better than stock, less lag, but still exibit random 3-5 secs freeze, eg i/o lags, particularly evident when the tablet is awaken from deep sleep, so when the OS is syncing all the services and updates in play store, sometimes the tablet literally halts for 10-15 secs. But so far, AOKP seems to be the best, at least for me.
Thanks for the info. I may just go with that instead of spending the money on a new tablet if it significantly improves it. Figure I should at least try the free route first.

Hi,
been running CM since CM7 and loving it! I never had a problem until now.
Now running CM11 7/14 nightly on my i535, and the phone runs really slow when hot, like when I use the browser a lot or when using navigation. By slow I mean unusable slow. This has been happening for a couple of months now. For the latest nightly, I did system reset and cleared the cache but it's still happening.
Does anybody know what to do?
Try a different kernal. Are you overclocking your phone? There really isn't one thing that can cause that issue.

This is my personal favorite kernel. Comes with an easy app Ktweaker to play with voltages and overclocking.

I installed the kernel and my problem is solved! I just tested a navigation and it did not slow to a crawl. The phone HOT indeed (brightness on full).
I think the default cm11 thermal stuff on our device may be not right.
Thanks!

yes, that's the combo i'm using right now and i see no lag whatsoever. I'm satisfied with stock that i even didn't speed up animations to x.5 , which i used to do on all android versions since Jelly Bean.
If you prefer custom kernels, i've had a great experience on kitkat with elementalX, haven't tried it on lollipop yet though.
I'm just saying that one of the changes you made is probably causing the sluggishness, it might not be Franco kernel, but that's a variable you can change for a start and see if there's any difference.

the stock CPU clock for each core is 2.26GHz, so 1479 (1.4GHz) is quite a notable underclock, no wonder you are getting sluggish performance. it's like you have activated battery saving mode all the time.
Lollipop is a lot of things but sluggish is certainly not one of them. I'm running N5X which is an AOSP build of 5.0 and it's pretty great. Using the stock kernel with it, I don't like using custom kernels anymore.

Yeh,probably going to go back to stock. Less headache for a daily driver.
Coming from a Oneplus One, I was very unhappy with the SD808 performance. Even with no wakelocks, no apps running in the backround, on stock rom and on Truepure MM, on stock kernel and on Frankenkernel, there was always lag.
I did some reading and came across this, which I think may be useful to a lot of people on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/guide-advanced-interactive-governor-t3269557
I'm currently running the "Nexus 5x Butterfly" profile from this post with EX Kernel Manager:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64645746&postcount=900
To do this, you'll need:
-Bootloader unlocked + TWRP + Root
-Frankenkernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/development/kernel-frankenclark-t3289939
-ElementalX Kernel Manager or your favorite kernel manager if you don't mind entering manually. (DO NOT USE KERNEL ADIUTOR, latest version has governor-tuning related bugs that reset values when trying to tweak other values. If anyone knows of a free kernel-tuning app that doesn't have this bug, let me know so I can add to this post.)
Phone is fast, animations are buttery smooth at x0.75, no longer heats up during long gaming sessions, and battery life seems much better than stock. Would love to hear feedback from others who have tried this!
I can't run stock MM on mine due to the lag. But on Lollipop it's pretty smooth. As smooth as any phone I've had (but considering it's also the newest phone, I also expected more leaps and bounds better performance). I suggest trying a custom ROM or switching back to LP and just using GravityBox. AICP appears ready for DD. Some builds are better than others though. So if you get a laggy build, try another.
Just checked out the links. Sounds like KTKernel and how you could install profiles, or make your own. Darnit...now that I just got all set up on stock LP and I'm happy with my phone, now I want to update to MM again to see if these profiles help with the scrolling through mud lag.

I'll try to record a before and after video tonight and add it to the OP. It's a pretty huge difference.
I might just use a flashable zip, if we have one. That way I'll keep my LP bootloader so I can always restore my backup if I don't like it. I loved the layers support for MM.
Afaik all the stock roms lag. I'm having no issues on AICP. Thanks for the settings though, if I ever go stock again I'll make sure to use it.
The files format extention is txt, should I just rename it? When searching through the sd card with ex kernel manager it doesn't find the settings
I believe the instructions say what you need to do with .txt part. In fact I know they do lol.

Curious. Where are you experiencing the lag? I've only found it unbearable in Chrome with sites running heavy Javascript code.
Care to be more descriptive of this "lag" you are talking about. I also had a OnePlus One and I would say performance is about the same.

Try scrolling and watch the screen. Notice it can't keep up with your thumb, it's all stuttering and jittery, trailing behind. And when you open a menu or pop up, the moves in with 3 steps, instead of seemlessly and smoothly moving in.
You can open titanium and try to scroll, or open settings and click "apps", or even scrolling in the settings. Scrolling in TT is unbearable. Chrome is not as bad, but still can't keep up, and stutters while scrolling.

What ROM are you on? Have you used FrankenKernel before (if not, maybe a bad download)? What exactly did you do? The EX Kernel Manager wouldn't stop you from booting, since there's a delay between finishing booting and when settings get applied. Betting this is related to flashing FrankenKernel.

Well, that's what I was afraid of. But then I hear other users say they have noticeable lag since MM and I know it's not me. On LP it's pretty smooth. But on MM it's garbage.
I don't think I could send it in for a replacement. I'd be without a phone for too long. Plus it's unlocked.

The EX kernel manager's CPU settings never keep when I load up a profile, very odd.
I might just stick with the kernel auditor or whatever the hell it's called.
I did a quick search in the other thread and I can't find the answer. I can't seem to find the gov_profiles folder to put the profile you recommend into. Any ideas?
