Hi everybody, did you update to the new Google Calendar via Play Store?
I have a trouble because when i scroll to see all my dates, the animation is a bit laggy and frustrating.
I am scared that when Lollipop arrives to my moto g, the heavy animations apps will be a bit laggy like that one. Only the Google Calendar app has this problem on my moto g.
Maybe there is a problem with my phone, so thats why im opening this thread.
Im running Stock US 4.4.4, without any root and kernels.
Sorry for bad english!
Worked fine for me for the first couple runs..
Then it seemed to have..become laggy for no reason. I do agree something is wrong with it somewhere.
its laggy for me too...
Yeah, the new Google Calendar app is a big setback. Check out this review of it on Ars
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/11/android-5-0-lollipop-thoroughly-reviewed/8/#h1
The agenda view shows a little picture at the beginning of each month, and a fancy parallax scrolling effect shows different parts of the picture as you scroll. But this screen scrolls poorly, with lots of stutters and frame drops. You don't have to take our word for it, either; the second picture in the gallery (above) has the GPU profiler turned on. Every vertical line above the green horizontal line is a dropped frame.

Info: I'm running Android 4.1.1 (10.4.2.9) unlocked/rooted with a clean reinstall of the official ROM.
Hi everyone. I've had my tablet for less than a week now, and while I like it, I have some concerns.
It was an open box model (I only paid 295 usd for the 32gb version) and it acts kind of quirky. When I get a new mail notification through the gmail app, it shows the full contact picture on the left hand side of the popup, and a slice out of the middle of the contact picture on the right. It also won't show certain images in google reader (tried both the official app and gReader) until I change orientation or reload the feed.
Those two just sound like rom/app quirks, but what really worries me is that the tablet lags quite frequently (choppy framerate and delayed actions). The overall performance just doesn't seem up to par for the hardware. I'll have random 1-2 second lock ups (OS wide). Double taps on the keyboard from time to time (stock keyboard and thumb keyboard 4). Movies have frequent skips (default player).
Anyway, I'm just posting to see if it sounds like I need to return the tablet or does this just come with the territory? I apologize for my ignorance, but this is my first tablet and first experience with anything above Android 2.3.7

I believe that once Asus rolls out JB to all transformer tabs (dunno bout 101) they will work on the kernel, which is where the lockups and stuff come from

Update: I just went in and removed a lot of bloat. So far, the tablet is performing fantastically! I just can't wait to get CM9 or 10 on it. =D
Just curious...what all did you remove?

Sorry its taken me so long to respond. Been kinda busy. I'll list everything I removed, but be warned; Asus Customized Settings no longer works. Also, you have to get a notification (any notification will do!) before the menu you get by tapping your clock works after a reboot.
I removed: (.apk and .odex when applicable)

If anyone knows how to fix my Asus Customized Settings, I'd appreciate the info! If not, its a small price to pay for the performance boost. =P
Here's a topic that shows bloatware that's safe to remove, but I couldn't follow it because my phone won't display it properly, so I just had to go guerilla on it.

I use auto upload when WiFi+charging, great for our phones with limited storage, So I rely a lot on Google+ auto backup photos. I delete pictures from my local album to free space, but...
When I am browsing my photos through Google+, I CANNOT swipe left or right to go previous/next picture. If I do that, when I leave the app, my phone gets extreme lag, especially in home screen and notification drawer. I even thought this was some CleanRom related bug, but I'm using stock rooted and the problem is still there. I also thought this could be a Sense Launcher bug, but even with Nova launcher it happens.
Anyone else having this issue? I bet there a lot of people experiencing this.. It took me a while to figure out what was causing it, but it's very simple: Just open a photo on Google+ and swipe left or right to go the next/previous pic. Your phone should lag like crazy until you reboot it.

I get the lag too. I usually get it after closing YouTube, I also did the photo swiping you mentioned and was affected as well. Are you using the elementalx or bulletproof kernels?
Using stock rooted rom and kernel. I used to get similar slowdowns on ElementalX kernel, but I could never find the source. In this case I was able to nail it down, and I haven't experienced lag from other apps.

Honestly unless your a huge fan of Google plus I would recommend using drop box (which has the same feature) .
(Especially since it seems like Google plus failed to take off)
+ drop has integration to backup stuff from quite a few apps (fuelio & tibu for example)

I have used dropbox and box extensively before trying Google+ photos. What makes Google+ more attractive to me is that uploads at standard(but still high) resolution are unlimited. It also uploads my videos in HD, also unlimited.
It's not all about storage(I have a 50gb box account). When I actually want to view or download my photos , Google+ is much, much MUCH faster to load. Dropbox and Box are super slow to load, and they also don't sort my pictures by date. Google+ even highlights what it thinks are the best pictures from any given day, enhances them to make them look better and it even creates animations out of my burst shots.
For photo storage, Google+ is so much better, there's just no contest.
Google has began a phased role out of it's popular YouTube app for Android, and while I'm not sure you guys have gotten it yet, I opted to share it here with you.
This version is special for a number of reasons, but the ones that stand out are:
- A totally redesigned UI and app icon
- In app multitasking
- Resizable video windows
See for yourself tho... it's as easy as downloading the apk below, installing it and launching the app.
Enjoy!
Yeah, nice effects, BUT:
- The font rendering is sh*t. Some lines (e.g.) in "H" are much too thick. Not understandable.
- Why is it en vogue at the moment to use light grey text on white background? WTF? The Tablet Z has really good contrast, but even on it some text in the Youtube app is barely readable. Don't begin to talk about how it looks on a 2012 Nexus 7...
I don't care about nice bells and whistles if basic functions are worse than in previous versions.

I tried both and they are the same. YouTube 5.0.21 has a nicer UI but it is not one I would call a grand improvement over the previous version. Video resizing was added; normal, full screen, and small. Problem 1: It took me a while to figure out how to stop a video; you have to make the video small then swipe it off the right side of the screen. WTF? Problem 2: The PLAY/PAUSE button is constantly displayed in the middle of the video except when it is made small. Again, WTF? I uninstalled the update and went back to the factory installed version of YouTube.
Edit: After my fourth reinstall of 5.0.21, Problem 2 finally solved itself. How? Only the Android gods know. Problem 1 still exists.
This problem I don't have.
The problem is when i play any video through wifi or in HD mode, the video get stuck or stop loading in about a couple of minutes after i click play button. I tried to switch to 3G or play in HQ mode, the problem solved. However, i like the HD mode better. And I have a 15Mbps connection through wifi! Anybody experiencing the same problem?

Hi,
I've noticed that some apps run very smooth, but others can lag for no reason.
For example Play Store. When you open Play Store and start scrolling to the bottom of the home screen (lets say 3-4 rows of apps per swipe down) it lags a lot. It's nowhere close to being smooth. Even when you're at the bottom so everything has loaded, it still isn't smooth when scrolling up and down using normal scroll speed.
Reddit is Fun is also an app that has lots of lag / stutters for me.
Does anyone else experience this?

no. i haven't yet experienced any (major) lag in any app (have Play Store obviously and Reddit is Fun installed).. currently on 1.13.401.1.. also as some apps are smooth for you and others not, i would say blame the apps, but lag and smoothness are such subjective terms that I can only say I don't see any lag.

Do you have a password manager such as LastPass installed? They can cause lag issues if you have the accessability option set to fill passwords in apps.

Well I can't really blame Play Store since it's a default app. If you don't experience such lag, it must have something to do with my device.

i can experience the same "problem" you have. Everybody has it , trust me, but not everybody is sensible like we are.
i also see that the "go back" animation for example in settings is also stutter in 2 /10 times.

Thanks for your reply.
It's strange to me that the top of the line hardware can't even manage to make scrolling a default app like Play Store feel smooth. Even when viewing text comments within the Reddit is Fun app isn't always smooth. That's just scrolling text, not even loading images.
I guess I have to deal with it then. I expected more for this price range.
It's not the device. It's just poorly written apps. Compare for instance Facebook app and metal on older devices. They do the same thing but the experience is night and day. This a fairly new device so updates will come but playstore always stutters no matter the phone. It's been like that for years and I tried maaaaany devices
yes it has absolutely nothing to do with the hardware/device. like @mlodykaras said, it just poor coding.
Okay thanks for all your feedback guys!
Let's hope Google will learn how to write applications for Android correctly :silly:
Well to come back to this. The lag is just insane, there's no other way to put it. When I compare scrolling through the same text with my old Lenovo K3 Note, the U11 lags and stutters all the time while the Lenovo K3 Note doesn't stutter at all. That's just scrolling through text!
I've noticed that if you change the Interactive governor to Performance, the U11 doesn't lag anymore. But this isn't great for the CPU and for battery life of course.
Video 1 shows a 1080p 60fps Twitch stream. You can notice there are some spikes and overall it's close to the green line.
Video 2 shows the same 1080p 60fps Twitch stream. You can notice there are no spikes and overall it's not even close to the green line.
Video 3 shows the same comment thread in Reddit is Fun. I start by using the Performance governor and you can see me switch to the Interactive governor a little later. It's clear there are a ton of spikes using Interactive.
This really shouldn't be happening on such an expensive device.
I've even reverted back to stock using RUU, fresh install no restoring done. Same issues.
I have also noticed few apps other than play store. I am from India and some apps like BookMyShow & Inbox from Gmail stutters and there are always some frame drops. I tested BookMyShow in One plus 5, it runs very smoothly. Idk why it is like this and whether it'll be corrected or not.
My old debloated Galaxy S6 had smoother scrolling in apps in comparison with HTC10 and U11. HTC should adjust some kernel settings ot OS to fix this, it is very annoying. I really hope it will be fixed with Oreo update.

I don't think it would get fixed with oreo update as its not something that requires an overall new version of android.
Had it supposed to be changed, it would've changed by HTC in those 2-3 updates came out till now after the launch.
Problem with HTC is they do not take or even consider feedbacks unless there is some major major glitch.
For HTC this scrolling stutter and overblown of highlights and light sources in camera is just minor issues and they don't care about it.
On the other hand, there is google which takes every feedback seriously and tries to improve the Pixels on the software level as much as the software can.

Well Google does create Android so...
Has anyone noticed very very smooth display rendering animations when scrolling or swiping?
Is it just me getting this feature?
Also judging by the PPI of the new Pixel 4, it seems the display is from LG.
I'm getting blazing fast display animations...
I'm telling you, my display is suddenly extremely, extremely fluid. I know my phone since July and it hasn't been this fast.
I'm on 2340x1080 resolution...
Weird, I'm moving my finger in the screen up and down then up then down and so on extremely fast and the screen is extremely fast.
Almost 0 motion blur when scrolling text on white background...

Hello, Mishaal!
I'm on September patch, but it doesn't require an update for LG to modify things in my phone. I've noticed many times my camera app was updated without me installing some Ota. That also happened also with my old lg g7. I've allowed Google and LG full feedback on Android.
I've downloaded the DevChec and as soon as I've opened it, the display wasn't as smooth as it was. Of course it reported 60Hz. Now I'm also with the same old fluidity of 60Hz. But I know my phone very well, it was on another frequency when I posted here. Either 90 or 120Hz. Couldn't tell.
Another interesting thing to notice is that the new pixels 4 have poled screens from LG. Maybe the same we have. Check it over the net, it's confirmed is an Poled.
Hope Lg gives me back that refresh rate... :crying:

Well, the V50 uses the same panel as the V40 (check kernel sources). No trace of anything above 60Hz in there.
Ofcourse they (you) can update the Camera app... just like any other system app, you can install updates for it (e.g. preinstalled everything, like play store or whatever, is also updating). Updating apps doesnt require an OTA, updating kernel/other system/vendor/product components requires an OTA (on pie atleast, on 10 theres the APEX stuff).
And just because the panel of the pixel 4 is also from LG, doesnt mean the same panel is in the V50/V40. Also the size/resolution of the panel differs anyway (might be able to cut it, but i doubt the controller really likes that).

HI, Markus!
Maybe the kernel already supports it and it allows remotely enable/disable. I know very well my phone since July 2019. Also never owned an 90-120Hz display. Also I know since 10 years what a 60hz is. But I know what it happened and what fluidity I saw the other day and it was not 60Hz. Hope someone else gets this.
If this is relevant or not, I was installing Ultra Corder 1.1.1 app cracked. After playing with it and exit that app I've opened Opera browser, then for about half an hour opened Facebook, youtube, Tidal and many apps. All of them had that fluidity. Then I went to sleep and the next day read the thread and installed Dev Check as pointed here. Since then the fluidity stopped. I've downloaded again Ultra Corder and installed it again but nothing happened so I think it's not a fault caused by ultra Corder.
The fluidity started with/in Opera app.
Noticed the 0 motion blur on text over white background when scrolling while holding the finger on the screen and moving up and down. I'm repeating right now that scroll and it has enormous motion blur.
If this is relevant, the screen flickered really bad on/off for a few times when I first opened Ultra Corder. But I don't think it has anything to do. I'm writing about it as it was in that very just before context when happened that fluidity.
Surprise! ?
Yep! ??????
Do you?
