Did LG just enabled 90 or 120Hz on our phones??? - LG V50 ThinQ Questions & Answers

Has anyone noticed very very smooth display rendering animations when scrolling or swiping?
Is it just me getting this feature?
Also judging by the PPI of the new Pixel 4, it seems the display is from LG.
I'm getting blazing fast display animations...

I'm telling you, my display is suddenly extremely, extremely fluid. I know my phone since July and it hasn't been this fast.

I'm on 2340x1080 resolution...

Weird, I'm moving my finger in the screen up and down then up then down and so on extremely fast and the screen is extremely fast.

Almost 0 motion blur when scrolling text on white background...

Did you get an update that enabled this? Can you download an app called DevCheck from the Play Store and see what framerate it reports?

Hello, Mishaal!
I'm on September patch, but it doesn't require an update for LG to modify things in my phone. I've noticed many times my camera app was updated without me installing some Ota. That also happened also with my old lg g7. I've allowed Google and LG full feedback on Android.
I've downloaded the DevChec and as soon as I've opened it, the display wasn't as smooth as it was. Of course it reported 60Hz. Now I'm also with the same old fluidity of 60Hz. But I know my phone very well, it was on another frequency when I posted here. Either 90 or 120Hz. Couldn't tell.
Another interesting thing to notice is that the new pixels 4 have poled screens from LG. Maybe the same we have. Check it over the net, it's confirmed is an Poled.
Hope Lg gives me back that refresh rate... :crying:

Well, the V50 uses the same panel as the V40 (check kernel sources). No trace of anything above 60Hz in there.
Ofcourse they (you) can update the Camera app... just like any other system app, you can install updates for it (e.g. preinstalled everything, like play store or whatever, is also updating). Updating apps doesnt require an OTA, updating kernel/other system/vendor/product components requires an OTA (on pie atleast, on 10 theres the APEX stuff).
And just because the panel of the pixel 4 is also from LG, doesnt mean the same panel is in the V50/V40. Also the size/resolution of the panel differs anyway (might be able to cut it, but i doubt the controller really likes that).

HI, Markus!
Maybe the kernel already supports it and it allows remotely enable/disable. I know very well my phone since July 2019. Also never owned an 90-120Hz display. Also I know since 10 years what a 60hz is. But I know what it happened and what fluidity I saw the other day and it was not 60Hz. Hope someone else gets this.
If this is relevant or not, I was installing Ultra Corder 1.1.1 app cracked. After playing with it and exit that app I've opened Opera browser, then for about half an hour opened Facebook, youtube, Tidal and many apps. All of them had that fluidity. Then I went to sleep and the next day read the thread and installed Dev Check as pointed here. Since then the fluidity stopped. I've downloaded again Ultra Corder and installed it again but nothing happened so I think it's not a fault caused by ultra Corder.

The fluidity started with/in Opera app.
Noticed the 0 motion blur on text over white background when scrolling while holding the finger on the screen and moving up and down. I'm repeating right now that scroll and it has enormous motion blur.

If this is relevant, the screen flickered really bad on/off for a few times when I first opened Ultra Corder. But I don't think it has anything to do. I'm writing about it as it was in that very just before context when happened that fluidity.

Surprise! ?

Yep! ??????
Do you?

video chat and music app compatibility?

So I'm thinking about getting this phone. I'm wondering how well video chat (Skype specifically) and either btunes or Player Pro work on it. if anyone does use bTunes, does the camera button control function work in it? a short list of apps I'd really liek to knwo about, if anyone has used them on this phone:
No Lock (I know Sense has a clever lock screen, but I hate lock screens in general)
Wave Launcher
bTunes
Player Pro
Skype
No Lock
I'd also love to know if anyone has had other compatibility problems with other apps as well that I haven't mentioned, any at all. especially games. I'll be switching to a Sense phone from a stock gingerbread phone (Samsung transform Ultra), so compatibility could be a pit fall for me.
Hey, so of all those apps the only one that I have is Skype.
I am pretty amazed by how well it works. The video quality is excellent both ways, but the front facing camera does struggle a bit more in low light versus a normal webcam. Skype is fairly reliable. The video stream is clear, sound quality is good and all in all it works well. I Skyped with my friends on both Wifi and 4G for over an hour, it did however freeze a couple of times however it was difficult to tell if it was because of my phone, or the person I was Skyping with.
Can you elaborate on compatibility issues? The only "compatibility issues" I have ran into with applications regard LCD density and not being able to download from the Android Market. I changed my phone to have an LCD density of 160 rather than 240 using PropModder, and that prevented me from downloading applications like Facebook, and pretty much everything else - a simple change and reboot fixed the issue though.

Well, on the sidekick for example, Samsung changed the colors of menus and the notification drop down menu background, so if an app uses dark colored text, its difficult or impossible to see on the menu background that's also dark. It gets quite annoying. Also, no lock would often fail to block the lock screen, since it was altered by samsung, and i know sense has a diff lock screen as well. (If all these OEMs insist on modding android so much, why cant they give us an option to disable the lock screen natively for those who dont like it?)
So does anyone know about the other Apps, especially No Lock and Wave Launcher? I use those two ALOT.
Sorry to go off topic...but CM7 has the option to disable the lockscreen.
Sent with my finger using Tapatalk
hmmm, did not know that. seems like at least those guys have some sense to them. I hope CM or a stable AOSP rom is on this thing soon, mine arrives tomorrow.
Don't have any of the apps in particular, but I've been using the phone for a few months now and haven't had any compatibility issues yet (that weren't fixed by the ROM developer).
It's been reported that changing the LCD density of this phone will cause app incompatibilites as mentioned earlier though. As long as you avoid that, I think you shouldn't have a problem.
I have plenty of games that I've played on the phone and all has worked so far. The only one not compatible so far is Asphalt.
Cm7 is pretty nice, also u can install the gapps and gapps-gtalk extra package when installing cm7, and the video call of gtalk will work well probably.I've tested it with a pc and this phone, videochat was flawless with the front camera.

A possible cause of heavy lag

Developing few themes I've found out what is one possible cause of the heavy lag (and with that I mean the phone gets unusable. Seconds without reactions) I can get since when I upgraded to Lollipop. In a simple word: themes.
That's 100% certified, I tested and retested it again. In more specific details at least in my case i discovered that if the Navigation bar button for exchanging keyboard isn't properly sized - and it will hardly be since the Sony Theme Creator is messy with those particular icons - the skinner may go banana.
There are other bugs as well (try to install the same theme over the current theme), but the one above is probably the most nasty. The obvious workaround is to apply a different theme (the plain, boring stock ones don't define any asset) and maybe reboot, but if you want to see a bit more in detail if something is wrong with your current theme do the following (requires root):
- Download the Theme Debugger
- Check the size of the keyboard button in the bottom right like in those picture (left is ok, right - which is a stock theme - is an example of things going wrong) :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
- Open Theme Debugger
- Click on the top left menu (3 dots) and choose "Restart System UI"
Now check the size of the keyboard button again. If it changes in size, like if it is too small or too big or if the landscape and portrait version do not match (they get stretched in one direction or the other) you most likely have the issue. Inform the theme developer (with a couple of screenshots) and on the meantime use a different theme. Oh, don't blame the developer, it's the skinner to be effed up.
I hope this helps!
or... You can discover that you have a crappy app called ROM ToolBox Pro which hasn't been updated in a year and with Lollipop it went banana and set the at boot the minfree values to a ridiculously low value. The ugly thing is that there is a sort of "bug" with the minfree in Lollipop (at least with the SnapDragon 400, the Moto G has the same issue), the file
Code:
/sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree
is write only (permissions "--w--w----" instead of -rw-r---r--") so the app above couldn't read the minfree values but it did write them (discovered enabling the full log in SuperSU).
Still the thing about the themes partially applies. With low minfree values the skinner did crash in the situation mentioned. Also if one updates the active theme (as in installs a new version over it) after the reboot the theme has gone (but it shows as if it was selected). Hopefully we'll get an update fixing all these little annoying issues (plus the GPS and camera fixes, sure).

Sure, you can play with the minfree as much as you like. They are volatile files, they get recreated after each reboot (so if it gets stuck just restart the phone). Which also means that if you want to make any modification permanent you should add it in a /etc/init.d script.
Apparently I fixed once for all the lag that has been infesting my phone for months. Other than the couple of things I already mentioned (and yes, the wrong minfree was simply a nightmare), what made it more constantly fluid now has been the following: In settings do:
Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Store, Clear data and Clear cache
Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Services > Manage space, Clear all data and Clear cache
I used that as a suggestion for installing FaceBook returning error 504 (but I've found out that what really fixed the FB installation was to uninstall FB Messenger. What a piece of junk) and no, it isn't placebo effect, I waited few days to be sure. Also apparently the 787 Mhz went from a 50-50 with the 1190Mhz to a 70-30.
Oh well, I just thought could be useful to share!
Hi !
In Lollipop When the brightness is more than 25% phone starts lagging
When the phone is connected to a charger or computer is not Lag phone!
I got Repair Pc companion! But the phone's lag !
This problem can be solved???
It depends on what you define as lag at this point. If you followed this thread you see that it took me months to get a rid of the lag on my phone. Yet if after repairing the phone with PC Companion it's still lagging, either your phone is damaged or you're too much lag sensitive.

I am quite sure the ROM has nothing to do with it. Still I'm using the Custom IT version, which is the one of my phone.
But if after a repair with PC Companion, no apps, no data your phone really lags most likely you have an HW issue. Try to see if taking out the SIM and SD cards it still lags. If the phone really lags changing the brightness it may be damaged.
Then if your lag is just some nearly imperceptible micro stuttering.. deal with it. That can be normal.
I just tried to be on the phone while brightness is on 100%, and I must say it is lagging for me too.
It is not some brutal lag or idk, but it is noticeable.
Check the recording:
2016_01_24_15_30_00.mp4
As seen it is not something major, but it can be noticed lol.

The problem is that the video on my laptop lags by itself, it fries the CPU. I tried to watch it on PS3 and on my television and the codecs aren't recognized. You need a better screen recorder.
Still even with the lag induced by the player it didn't seem that bad, the apps were opening quite fast. Then it's an Xperia M2, we can't expect the performances of an Xperia Z5 (and let's forget an iPhone 6S ). Also you had to show the difference with brightness at zero to compare.
In any case, when I wrote heavy lag I meant that with the wrong minfree values I was waiting even a minute to open certain apps. That was absurd indeed. Fixed that I still had some lag, like when unlocking the screen. The sequence was jumping. Or the keyboard could take ages to load (it still does it sometimes, but not that bad). Clearing the Google Play Service data fixed that as well. But the micro stuttering when scrolling has been there since ever, KitKat included. No matter the brightness, at least on my phone. I just triple checked it now, maybe it's an optical effect. Being higher the brightness the lags gets more more evident, I don't know
Yeah, I am checking it again with brightness zero. Scrolling the home drawer's panels it micro stutters. I'm so used to it that I don't even consider it lag. Well, at least that's me.

Actually I have the same question. I've checked a bit around few days ago and in Google Play they are all getting not excellent reviews. At least the ones I've seen. Which is annoying becauseI've read the Z3 (and above, I suppose) has one made by Sony, integrated in the ROM (it was for KitKat, not sure if it went to Lollipop as well). So if you ever find a good one. please let me know.

Here check this out: https://youtu.be/j5WYd28rhi4
I installed the highest rated app "Telecine" and I must say I have never recorded a smoother video of my phone.
It was smoother than the actuall use xD
But it kinda lacks some features, like saving location etc.
Anyways here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jakewharton.telecine :good:
EDIT: After testing a few apps, I am thinking between AZ Screen Recorder (which I used before, and after enabling 60fps in settings recording is smooth as in Telecine) and Telecine.
AZ Screen Recorder is packed with all features, but I need to do some more testing. Here: https://youtu.be/64xyaASGO9M - This is a recording with default resolution and 60fps. It is smooth, really smooth.
And this is a recording in 720p, also 60fps: https://youtu.be/t_XS3ZZFZkE - Tell me if there is some difference, because I dont see it.
Altough, Telecine is simple as f***, it lacks some features.
So check those two of course.
@junk031 we are vastly off topic, but whatever...
So I checked the two video players. Telecine is quite limited and then it started crashing. I removed it immediately. AZ Recorder seems good. I liked the option to change the audio track. Too bad that it doesn't work. Unless it doesn't like my AAC format. But it did play it on the preview (just the audio).
Anyway, the most important thing is that I can play the recorded videos from my laptop without it frying. So I can do any editing from it. As I always do anyway, I hate to operate from the phone!!

Scroll lag / stutter?

Hi,
I've noticed that some apps run very smooth, but others can lag for no reason.
For example Play Store. When you open Play Store and start scrolling to the bottom of the home screen (lets say 3-4 rows of apps per swipe down) it lags a lot. It's nowhere close to being smooth. Even when you're at the bottom so everything has loaded, it still isn't smooth when scrolling up and down using normal scroll speed.
Reddit is Fun is also an app that has lots of lag / stutters for me.
Does anyone else experience this?

no. i haven't yet experienced any (major) lag in any app (have Play Store obviously and Reddit is Fun installed).. currently on 1.13.401.1.. also as some apps are smooth for you and others not, i would say blame the apps, but lag and smoothness are such subjective terms that I can only say I don't see any lag.

Do you have a password manager such as LastPass installed? They can cause lag issues if you have the accessability option set to fill passwords in apps.

Well I can't really blame Play Store since it's a default app. If you don't experience such lag, it must have something to do with my device.

i also see that the "go back" animation for example in settings is also stutter in 2 /10 times.

Thanks for your reply.
It's strange to me that the top of the line hardware can't even manage to make scrolling a default app like Play Store feel smooth. Even when viewing text comments within the Reddit is Fun app isn't always smooth. That's just scrolling text, not even loading images.
I guess I have to deal with it then. I expected more for this price range.
It's not the device. It's just poorly written apps. Compare for instance Facebook app and metal on older devices. They do the same thing but the experience is night and day. This a fairly new device so updates will come but playstore always stutters no matter the phone. It's been like that for years and I tried maaaaany devices
yes it has absolutely nothing to do with the hardware/device. like @mlodykaras said, it just poor coding.
Okay thanks for all your feedback guys!
Let's hope Google will learn how to write applications for Android correctly :silly:
Well to come back to this. The lag is just insane, there's no other way to put it. When I compare scrolling through the same text with my old Lenovo K3 Note, the U11 lags and stutters all the time while the Lenovo K3 Note doesn't stutter at all. That's just scrolling through text!
I've noticed that if you change the Interactive governor to Performance, the U11 doesn't lag anymore. But this isn't great for the CPU and for battery life of course.
Video 1 shows a 1080p 60fps Twitch stream. You can notice there are some spikes and overall it's close to the green line.
Video 2 shows the same 1080p 60fps Twitch stream. You can notice there are no spikes and overall it's not even close to the green line.
Video 3 shows the same comment thread in Reddit is Fun. I start by using the Performance governor and you can see me switch to the Interactive governor a little later. It's clear there are a ton of spikes using Interactive.
This really shouldn't be happening on such an expensive device.
I've even reverted back to stock using RUU, fresh install no restoring done. Same issues.
I have also noticed few apps other than play store. I am from India and some apps like BookMyShow & Inbox from Gmail stutters and there are always some frame drops. I tested BookMyShow in One plus 5, it runs very smoothly. Idk why it is like this and whether it'll be corrected or not.
My old debloated Galaxy S6 had smoother scrolling in apps in comparison with HTC10 and U11. HTC should adjust some kernel settings ot OS to fix this, it is very annoying. I really hope it will be fixed with Oreo update.

I don't think it would get fixed with oreo update as its not something that requires an overall new version of android.
Had it supposed to be changed, it would've changed by HTC in those 2-3 updates came out till now after the launch.
Problem with HTC is they do not take or even consider feedbacks unless there is some major major glitch.
For HTC this scrolling stutter and overblown of highlights and light sources in camera is just minor issues and they don't care about it.
On the other hand, there is google which takes every feedback seriously and tries to improve the Pixels on the software level as much as the software can.

Well Google does create Android so...

Opinions on EMUI

I'm considering the M5 8.4 to replace my aging Nexus 7 (2013) and would like some feedback on the EMUI software experience.
Do you like the skin? Is it similar to stock Android?
Since there probably won't be many ROM options, how is Huawei's track record with updates?
Thanks,
Rick

There should be lots of ROM options shortly if not right away, since the device is Treble compatible as are other EMUI 8.0 devices.
For whatever it's worth:
I am running EMUI - but debloated with Nova installed (I couldn't imagine Android without Nova). I'm also not 100% sure what features are EMUI vs stock Oreo.
There's a "Launch" feature built in to EMUI that allows you to specify which apps are allowed to launch in the background, allowed to be launched by a secondary app, and allowed to run in the background. I like this feature, but if you don't bother setting preferences for each app, EMUI kills background apps somewhat aggressively.
EMUI lets you choose between a collapsible navbar (if rooted you can use Exposed Edge Pro instead), and/or a one-button navigation system using the fingerprint sensor - tap for 'back,' hold for 'home,' swipe for 'recents.' I am using the one-button system in conjunction with Edge Pro and to me it's pretty seamless (but I still have to work on not hitting the sensor by accident).
The dialer and SMS skins are fine. Stock DPI options are a bit high, but you can change via developer options (after every reboot). Stock camera app no longer works if you change the DPI, but you can always use opencamera (or change the DPI back).
The other day I had an issue with background music playback about 45 minutes into streaming music via an old version of eDJing premium. Issues stopped after I disabled Doze (via root app that I had set to run at boot). That's probably an Android issue?
Battery life for me is in line with what I have experienced with every similar phablet I have previously owned.
Anyways, all EMUI 8.0 devices share key things in common, so the dev community is larger than it seems.
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I also use Nova and will probably remove some of the reduny apps. I can see myself rooting and using Magisk.

In my opinion the emui is not bad.
The personalization of Android that Huawei made is pretty clean.
However they obviusly add some bugs:
- adaptive icons do not works correctly: you can have only the circular one (even with Nova)
- the resolution of the display or the information that the apps get are really strange: some app starts always in landscape, no matter the actual orientation, other render the pages in strange ways when the tablet in turned fron landscape to portait, etc... Really really annoying
- battery optimization is too agressive and it is not (for me) completely clear how to tune it
- every time the launcher is updated, it switch back to its stock launcher, and i have to set the nova again as default (this can be done just in the default app in the settings). Probably this will happen also for other apps.
The hardware is solid and the battery life is good.
The position of the touch sensor and of the hardware buttons are not imho right and a big design failure.
If you keep the tablet in portrait with the touch button in the buttom: the hardware buttons are almost inaccessible unless you have a prehensile bellybutton ?
In landscape if you try to change the volume with the hardware button your finger will touch the touch button and the current app is "closed" (the tablet swith back to the home screen). This is a software feature (bug?) that i will like to change

Also the Mediapad is now listed as enterprise device. I'd be surprised if they'd stop with updates soon.
As for EMUI:
It's a mixed bag for me. There are 3 annoying bugs which most likely have their origin in EMUI:
- 2 fingers at the same time without instantly moving makes the tablet not recognize the input anymore. (there is a thread on xda about it)
The other 2 are about the keyboard accessory which is probably irrelevant for you (for everybody else):
- flipping the cover from front to back triggers a "refresh", black screen on netflix or a return from edit mode to view mode in xodo pdf
- EMUI always asks if I want to start desktop mode when a keyboard is connected, doesn't matter if you tick the "don't remind me again" checkbox

Squircle works for me. I think all work. I'm not sure they work how they should. Not that I care.

This usually has to do with the apps, not EMUI. Install Rotation Control to force auto rotation across all apps.

This is probably the biggest issue with EMUI. But almost everything is tunable and with root/feedback from other EMUI users, I don't expect this to be a long term issue for anyone. (I started having issues playing music in the background without a charger plugged in - they fixed themselves last night and I'm not sure why. My preferred music player app was last updated in probably 2011, might or might not be a factor.)
every time the launcher is updated, it switch back to its stock launcher, and i have to set the nova again as default (this can be done just in the default app in the settings).

I can confirm that you do not have this issue as long as automatic updates are turned off. I have also seen a general improvement after uninstalling updates to Google Webview.
The one EMUI feature I like that I forgot to mention in my previous post, is Eye Comfort. It's a partial blue light filter that works better than any apps I've found on the Play Store.
Nope the adpative icons do not works, and this is something that you may corcern since this is one of the feature of Oreo and the app on oreo only gave icons to works as adpative. The circle one are just ugly.
Regarding the orietation, the same app works all correctly on my previous tablet and on all my other devices.
Root should not be required to solve implementation problem.
The sotck rom must be as much as posdible bug free.
For all this bug we should blame Huawei: have a look to the support fotum for nova launcher or chronus, just to understand the real situation.
As usual what it is important for someone count nothing for the others

Hi anyone on EMUI in the UK with the 10.8 Wifi version (CMR-W09). Would you please tell me what is the version you are on (Latest). As I am considering going back from Lineage for a short while as there are too many bugs just now. Stupidly I didn't note down what version of EMUI 8 I should be on and there are tonnes of them. Cheers.

SHT-W09C432B151 (8.0.0.151) is what you need
Hey there,
It's not a mixed zone for me:
1) If I wanted an Ipad I would have bought that.
2) I do not like limits in terms of app-drawer etc. (fixed this, now using Nova Pro)
3) battery optimization too heavy: hell, using the keyboard with firefox (nebo, playstore, and may more) is almost impossible as the screen brightness lowers even if automatic brightness adjustment is turned off ...
What I love is:
1) Battery live
2) How it all fits together (So the "Iphoneish feeling" that I cried about above is not my taste, but it's a consistent Design at least ...)
I bought the Mediapad mainly because of the Pen, the Hardware, and the Keyboard(if I am not hating it for ausing brightness trouble...) and these are the things that I really like!
I don't mind emui has some good features and of you use Nova you can make it look stock. I like the themes and the book cover feature. I like the battery optimisation it lasts so well.
I'm trying to get ahold of the stock firmware so I can root mine.

the tab has great features but some disadvantages (brightness bug with keyboard for me ... weird behavior at least)
Best of all certainly is the battery life! And I am using Nova ... That's why the look is not too much of an issue
I do notice the aggressive doze feature.

I decided to replace my aging, but beloved, Nexus 7 2013 WiFi (running LineagoOS 15.0) with something a bit meatier. After much consideration, I ordered and received a 32GB M5 8.4 (SHT-W09) from Amazon UK.
First up, the hardware is awesome. I really notice the difference with the move to 4GB RAM and the updated CPU / GPU. The performance is worlds apart from the Nexus 7 - very zippy, very responsive, games run great etc. The display also is a significant improvement - I really like the 16:9 ratio too and don't agree with review feedback that it impacts eBook and web browsing. It works great for those and just looks incredible for movies and TV. No surprises so far, then, given the 5 year old spec of the N7. On the subject of this display, note that both Amazon Prime Video and Netflix now support HD playback on the SHT-W09. Absolutely brilliant. Audio is fine, I'd always listen through Bose BT OE headphones anyway. The lack of 3.5" headphone jack doesn't bother me in the least.
So, on to the OP question about EMUI. To be honest, I really don't like it. The sheer number of junk apps installed is disappointing, especially as some (YouTube, for example) cannot be uninstalled. Note that of the 32GB available, only 16GB was available out of the box. Adoptable storage has been explicitly disabled in EMUI, so there's no option to use external SD as internal storage. A bit disappointing, but a 128GB MicroSD gives plenty of storage for media, if not apps. Within the UI itself, I miss the app drawer button (I'm sure there's an option somewhere) and it all just doesn't feel "familiar" enough for my liking. The Themes idea is great, but the version delivered with the tab only seems to support local themes - there's no "Theme Store" as such, unlike the phone version of the app. As such, customisation feels limited. I've simply installed Nova and couldn't be happier with the end result.
A really worthy replacement for the king of Android tablets, the Nexus 7 2013, so I'd encourage the OP to give it a go!
@mroshaw similar for me. I replaced my Nexus 7 (2012) by the SHT-W09 and I am quite happy. I uninstalled all the apps I do not use (ebay, facebook, some games, ...) and I replaced the laucher with the Pixel-Launcher. The only parts which still remember me that I am running on EMUI are the top bar and the configuration settings, but I can live with that.
I do not regret having it bought. There are not many Android tablets out offering such a build quality and performance for such a price tag.
I am growing to like the emui. It's got some grand security features. Like others, I uninstalled a TON of apps, disabled others, then I put an AOSP P Dark theme (from here on xda). The theme takes care of the notifications bar icons - I didn't really like the emui ones - plus "stock-ifies" most of the UI.
@mroshaw To activate the app drawer button, go to Settings, Display, Home Secreen Stlye, choose Drawer.
To enable SD card storage, Settings, Storage, Default Location. I have 45GBs out of the internal 64GB once I adb uninstalled bloat.
The deal breaker for me with EMUI is the missing option to plug in the tablet via USB and mount its storage to be visible and usable with any files operation (I use Linux only). There is no HiSuite for Linux and doing everything via adb is just a pain in the neck.
Having said that, the alternative is Lineage OS as the currently only alternative ROM, but this breaks two other things which are a deal breaker as well: No Bluetooth connectivity (its just dosn't pair anything properly), so no BT audio, which sucks when there is no headphone jack. Plus, with a custom ROM you lose L1 security in widevine, so no HD streaming with Netflix or Amazon video.
Fortunately, my usage for the tablet is different from my beloved N7; I mainly use it as a score reader for my piano. I wouldn't recommend it as a replacement for the N7; for that I bought the Lenovo Tab 4 Plus and it's a perfect replacement - except there are no custom ROM, But you can root it and the Lenovo UI is pretty much stock.
@DF5JT mtp works for me to access the device's internal and sdcard storage. Probably you need to configure your udev rules to identify your device correctly.

Poco x3..dynamic Refresh rate switching advice?

Hey, I've been using Poco X3 NFC for around 2 months now..and the refresh rate switching bugs me..when there is slight stuttering and slow animations.
Thx to XDA now through set it application, ive set it to 90hz for most of the time..but still there is some stuttering felt when u scroll the home screen of the launcher slowly..or the phone settings application..or gallery..sometimes chrome too..rest is smooth..can anyone suggest a fix? Also note that when I restart my device, then for 2 or 3 days it runs buttery smooth as.i wished it did constantly.. but after that the stuttering and slow animations appear through normal use..rest performance is fine during gaming and social media scrolling..but I don't like the dynamic Refresh rate switching..I wish it was set to permanent 90 Hz Instead of 120hz..

Sounds like you installed a lot of bloat on your phone. I would advise to search your app list for power hungry behaviour (always running in background, disabled battery optimizations, etc.) or even for suspicious and malicious spyware like Twitter and Facebook.
If you find such apps, remove them and try again. I'm sure the stuttering will vanish.

Thanks for replying..man but I checked and I don't have any add issue..and no bloatware except one cod game..Facebook or YouTube and Instagram..and I've restricted their activities..plus the ram is 6gb of which 3gb is available mostly..due to mui being a heavy ui, are u using Poco x3 as well? Man I wish there was another suggestion which I could try to make the stuttering vanish, and I think the stuttering issue is there due to dynamic Refresh rate switching..it's software issue on poco's part..waiting for more tips..here as I want to get this stuttering to vanish..

I use POCO X3 NFC surya with OctaviOS (Android 11, AOSP) with firmware version 12.0.3.0. I set static refresh rate to 120Hz and it is as smooth as butter. Have no stuttering at all. If you are interested in what exactly I did, read this comment.
P.S.: I have no Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or whatever installed.

Ahan man ?so you're using custom ROM..yes that's nice..can you share an ss here of how it looks and how's the experience compared to mui..ik it would be much more stable than this heavy skin.i don't hate mui but if I could get more smoothness then that would be amazing ..at the moment man I won't custom flash for Rom just now but maybe after several months..and updates if things do not get better I will..any tips for dynamic Refresh rate switching though man.? If I want to use the stock mui ..I'm on version 12.4 and Surya model..

I never used MIUI. I instantly flashed the custom ROM, as soon as I was allowed to. Before that, the phone was just laying around, waiting to be flashed. I have no idea what spyware this Xiaomi software has, so I refrained from using it all. That said, if you don't do extensive backups, then your data will be deleted on flash anyway, so why would I bother using the stock ROM for 7 days, just to remove it afterwards, anyway.
That said, I already heavily customized all looks, so potential screenshots wouldn't show how the custom ROM would look, instead it would only show how my personal customizations look, so no point in showing screenshots of that. Additionally, the parts that aren't customizable, like the Settings App, just looks like a stock Android 11 Settings App, I guess.
Finally, if you want to know more about OctaviOS, you can check out the thread I mentioned earlier. If you get to the first post of the thread I gave you my comment from, then there will be an explanation on OctaviOS and its feature set.

Right man..I respect that choice of yours using custom ROM..and tbh I think I'd do the same but only after some months.. I'm thinking that maybe future updates..and mui 13 next year would solve the trick..so got my fingers crossed..but when and I will flash my phone using a custom ROM..I'd definitely keep this OctaviOS in mind..thanks man
