Contacts not restoring from Exchange server on Android L - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone who flashed the new android L factory image facing this issue where not all the contacts from exchange server are getting sync'd?

Not working for me either. Also calendar from Exchange (Office 365 in my case) is not getting synced, and I cannot even see it in the list of available calendars.

Can you sync email normally? I couldn't even sync email since it told me exchange services has stopped every seconds

E-mail sync works fine, and even the Exchange policies came through correctly (PIN & encryption in my case). Posted question to Google Product forums as well.
UPDATE: Now after 2,5 hours of waiting, I do see calendar items and also contacts being synced from Exchange, so I'm considering this working for me at least for now.

My exchange is not working. Just syncing mail forever (nothing ever comes up) and calendar wont show. I have cleared data for exchange and gmail and deleted and readded the account several times. No luck at all. Please help me, I need to get to my work mail!!

Just an update. The issue is now resolved.
Here is what I did: I completely removed the exhange server account. Reset phone. Create exhchange server account and let it do it's thing while it was pulling down the info rather than try to much around with the phone this time around. Worked just fine. All contacts / emails / calendar everything sync'd correctly. I am connecting to outlook.office365.com.

During the time for syncing, have you received any notification ( error) which tells you the "Exchange services has stopped" ?

Hi, please help me. I have a company Exchange account on my N5 and everything works well, except the contacts sync. If I create a new contact on Nexus 5, it won't be sync to Exchange. In the opposite direction - from desktop to N5 - works well. (I choose the "Exchange contact", if I create a new contact, please tell me other something...) All the other syncs work well, like calendar, e-mail, only this way doesn't work. So what is your opinion, your method can help me as well? Or it is a bug in Lollipop? If I remember, it worked well with 4.4.4, but I'm not sure

I deleted all phones from Exchange (there were N5 a few times and my last phones as well) and my Exchange account from phone as well. Next I sync and the result is: when I create a new contact on the N5, it will be appear in the "Recommend Contacts" account. Then I can move it to "Contacts" account. It isn't complete solution, but better then earlier

Help! Stuck in constant email syncronise!

Hi all,
I noticed a few days ago my HD7's battery was lasting just a few hours after a full recharge. I have now found that the phone is constantly syncronising all the email accounts! (1 live, 1 exchange & 1 Imap)
All 3 accounts are greyed out in the email settings page, so I can't even remove them.
I don't want to do a factory reset as I'll lose all of my Txt messages
Anyone have any ideas...?
Cheers
JQ
Have you rebooted your phone? Also, not absolutely certain about saving text messages but, I believe Live will restore all settings and info after a hard reset. It did on mine when I was switching out HD7s. Just make sure Live sync has run.
Well hard reset will definitely not bring back smses.
As for the sync: for 99% it's some kind of currupted email data.
Maybe try to clean these email accounts. It must be something like that.
I've had similar issue but with looped Contacts sync. Device was endlessly counting synced contacts, I was forcing this to stop after reaching 20000......
The problem was gone once I cleaned my contacts and removed corrupted data. This problem appeared after I made first ActiveSync from my WM6.5 device.
Now it's fine. WLive syncs hotmail emails, calendar and contacts.
Hope this helps......
Hmmmm not sure I can clean out my emails...
The live account has no emails in there, and my Exchange account has over 11,000 so don't want to mess with that!
I've tried disconecting from the internet (airplane mode etc) to see if the sync ever times out but it never does.

Do you try to sync all that 11,000 emails to your phone? Or just a few days worth of it?
Only the last 7 days worth.
I've changed the passwords on all my email accounts, thinking it might stop as it cant access it, but no joy...
Wierdly the Hotmail mail icon on the start screen has dissapeared and is gone from the apps list (ie I can't go into my hotmail email list)...
Q
Hard to say. It may be a problem started with 11000 emails but I am not sure.
But I'm sure there are some things which cause sync corruption and in this case
only hard reset helps. I think 11000 emails is sick for a device.
it started when my live account didn't update with new emails.
Now the live account is in the email list (under settings) but has completly gone from the rest of the phone! Like if I try and forward a picture via messaging, the hotmail account is not listed, when the exchange and Imap accounts are...
Hopefully the next update will be here within a week or so, and that may solve my problem...

Same problem here, but with contacts. Live is constantly syncing. If you want to stop it, turn off wifi, turn off data and 3G in cellular settings and it will stop. Then go to settings for that account and write some bull**** in server adress. It will not be able to connect again.
I tried to clean all contacts from my live account, then sync with phone (which removes contacts from phone). Then i imported the contacts again to live and synced again. sync loop was back...
Any advices? This is common problem with all WP7 phones. Lot of people have this problem. I also dont want to hard reset. I am using different live account, which syncs just fine.

I don't think you can deal with it without hard reset.
I had this contacts loop and it was caused by corrupted and doubled contacts in Hotmail, plus the number of it - it was 1400.
After I sorted this - cleaned, removed empty ones and unnecessary, everything works perfect. So the deal is to clean corrupted data.
problem is that the email accounts never time out, even if there is no data connection, therefore I can't change passwords or anything...
Try to use airplane mode. It should disconnect everything.
yup tried that, no joy
i started using a samsung omnia 7 this weekend, and had the same problem with stuck e-mails. a soft reset while in flight mode did the trick for me. i could then delete all the accounts that were stuck.

[Q] Error syncing contacts from Live

I'll be as brief as possible. If you need clarification, just ask. I don't expect to solve this problem quickly, but any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I cannot sync contacts with my main Live account (which is set up with Windows Live Domains). Whenever I leave the Contacts option checked, the phone displays "Attention required" after a few minutes of syncing, and then "Error 0x86000106". It also briefly displays "Contacts: 1/0".
Emails and appointments sync flawlessly on that account, and contacts syncing works flawlessly with *any other* accounts I have, even with another Live account with a custom domain.
Here's what I tried so far, without success:
- Posted this problem to the Microsoft Answers forum (no help)
- Hard resetted the phone
- Changed phone's time zone
- Changed phone's region and language
- Enabled logging (where's that log stored?)
- Removed and readded all my contacts (I have about 120 contacts)
- Tried syncing with just one or two contacts
- Tried syncing via both WiFi and OTA
- Tried changing some personal info on the account profile
I've actually found that error code on Microsoft's website, but they say it's related to Outlook/Exchange and Activesync (it's trying to sync a corrupted item, and removing the offender causes the sync to continue). However, I cannot imagine how that corruption could be possible as I am not using Outlook.
Any ideas? Is it possible to "clear" the account in any way?
Bump... Anything? Anyone? I had resetted the phone a few more times, still no luck.
Try this
Uncheck sync contacts, then sync the whole thing. Then check sync contacts and see if it works
wpxbox, thanks for the reply. I can't uncheck to sync contacts now because this is my primary ID (I can only uncheck email). However, I did some tests a while ago and used this ID as a secondary account - unchecking Contacts would yield a successful sync, but the error would come back if I check Contacts again.
Just as you said above, its probably trying to sync a corrupted contact, and removing the corrupted contact should let it sync successfully. It doesn't matter if you are using Outlook or not, the server itself is a Microsoft Exchange server, and very rarely, something like this happens.
More than likely, you'll have to find the offending contact and try to sync again.
I would export all my contacts, delete them from my Live account (clear it out completely), then separate the exported contacts into groups of 10 or 20 contacts each, and then import each group, and sync after each import. This will allow you to make sure your contacts all sync successfully, and if there is a corrupted one, you can narrow it down to the last group you imported of 10 or 20 contacts. Makes it easy to track down the culprit.
That would be a god way. Good idea
prjkthack, thanks for the reply but I already did that. Phone won't sync even with an empty contact list. Still could be a corrupt contact, but where would it be? I used Outlook to access the contacts list and see if something comes up but no luck either (btw, Outlook syncs flawlessly).
And before someone say it, I already contacted Microsoft about it but they just keep sending me back and forth between the Microsoft Answers team, the Windows Live Mobile team and the Windows Live forum without giving me any solutions at all.
Nothing? Oh well, I'm doomed....

[Q] Contacts not Syncing

I have an Exchange 2010 at my work, and up until last week, I've had no issues. Now, i can't get my contacts to sync at all. E-mail and calendar work just fine, my account works just fine on other phones or on Touchdown. I've had other people try their accounts on my phone and it's the same thing. I even had people who are still on Exchange 2007 (still from my company) and it still won't work. When you go into Contacts and click Display Options, my exchange account shows up as "Phone-only, unsynced". Has anyone seen this or know of a way to fix it? It is driving me crazy!
Any help would be much appreciated!

ICS 4.0.4 Exchange & Calendar Sync Issues

I have two problems since I did a manual upgrade to my I9020T from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4
Exchange Emails - I am using the stock email app. I found that every few hours, the exchange data gets refreshed and all mails gets deleted from handset. Then it will immediately start downloading all mails again from the beginning. This is causing huge data usage and battery drain. I have tried deleting all email accounts, delete call cache in recovery menu and re-creating exchange account again. Still problem persists. When ever the email app starts a refresh, first it will show "No Messages" and then it will again download all emails.
Calendar: Recurring meeting in calendars do not sync with my handset. Other meeting sync without any issues.
Has any body faced such a problem?
I've experienced the same problem with the email client the and the sync.
I had to delete the exchange account from the phone because it ate the battery in 3-4 hours.
You can try deleting data under Settings | Apps | all for calendar, calendar storage, email and exchange services.
Also, I've a lot of issues being resolved by doing a factory reset after updrading to ICS 4.0.4 (just make sure you backup your info).
Factory reset is the last thing I want to do. I have more than 50 games installed and other apps are also installed. I will need to download all of them again if I do a factory re-set. But if there is no solution, I will have to do it any ways. Would a factory re-set delete data from the additional storage on the phone?
Alternatively I have configured touchdown for emails and it works fine. But it does not sync calendar at all. Under accounts and settings, when I open touchdown I do not even see the calendar sync option. Not sure if this is a compatibility issue with ICS.
I finally did a factory reset of the phone and have configured exchange email. Everything seems to be fine. No refresh - delete of emails and recurring meeting sync is too working fine.
Nice!! Good thing is working now!
The problem has come back. I don't think I can do a factory reset every 2-3 weeks. This must be a bug in the stock email client. What is the best alternative email app that I can use? Let me know if you know anything.
I think there is no other solution to this issue unless Google fixes this and I see a remote chance. Untill I am ready to throw this and buy a new phone, I want to get an alternate solution.
I'm on the SGS2, and also on 4.0.4.
My issue is similar, but not quite like yours.
I have some recurring meetings that do sync. I'm just not getting anything new to sync.
Maybe an update will fix it.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you're not alone, and that it's not limited to your phone.
-Defiant
Seems to be a common problem - I've also got exactly the same problem on my Desire with 4.0.4
I had issues with stock client and an exchange account too, honestly, after so much researching, i just got Enhanced Email from the market, works so much better
I tried Touchdown as a replacement. It worked fine for 2 weeks. And now, similar problems are back with Touchdown as well. It is now happening at least once a day. All mails get deleted, and downloaded again. The only difference is that Touchdown downloads mails faster than the stock email.
So, I believe the problem lies with ICS 4.0.4 and how it handles Exchange services. I am not sure if google is even ready to recognize this problem. I had posted this issue in google forums, and no one from google have answered anything.

I'm assuming this works OK on gingerbread? If not could be a problem with the exchange server

While I have not tested this exchange server when my Nexus S was running gingerbread, there are others in the company who are connecting to the same exchange server from their gingerbread phones without any problem.
So I am assuming this works on gingerbread. Is there any setting that need to be looked at the exchange server when the connection is from a ICS phone? Just trying to think differently.
Hi,
Just wondering if there's been any updates on this?
Same problems on my Desire HD running IceColdSandwich 8.6.1... with emails syncing ok, but no exchange calendar sync...
...weird in that no error messages comes up when i press directly to sync calendar, but yet no data coming through.
Like I said though, emails and even contacts are coming through to the device ok.

My problem got resolved by doing factor reset & flashing Google factory images as I was on stock ROM. You can try format of /system in cwm recovery and flashback the ROM. This could be a corruption in Exchange connected. You should take complete backup though.
Alternatively you can try using another email client and see if calendar syncs. There are many in play store.
Right now I am on a custom JB ROM and every thing is fine.

I had this problem since I had to reconfigure exchange after out server was migrated. I disabled the calendar sync and the issue did not reappear. Not sure if that is related or just a coincidence.

Switched to @outlook.com, now my email doesn't work

Today I switched my hotmail to the new outlook ([email protected]). Then I did a hard reset on my phone.
When it booted up, I told it my windows live account was [email protected].
Now, my email won't sync, because "it's having trouble syncing right now".
It's trying to sync with "m.hotmail.com", so I changed it to "m.outlook.com". Doesn't work. Problem remains.
Anyone got any ideas??
I have 4 email accounts on my phone. My work one, my business one, my main "hotmail" one (the one I changed to outlook), and a slush hotmail one. All work fine except the [email protected]
The outlook switch is ridiculous enough, but now it's broken their own platform. Good going, MS. Greaaaaat idea.
---edit---
I power cycled the phone, and now it appears to be working. Who knows for how long.

what happens if you use both the Hotmail and outlook accounts? thermonuclear meltdown?
I was able to change the account to @outlook without a hard reset on a fully unlocked Titan. Only problem that remained was that emails I sent from the phone were still sent from @live address not from @outlook, but marketplace, twitter and facebook chat was working. I guess that could have been solved fairly easily, but I just did a hard reset at the end because getting everything back takes only about 1½ hours.
What I did was changed these registry values:
Code:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Partners\{B2830118-7BC6-4A74-8C9A-3D8B9CEF88E0}]
"Email"[email protected]
"User"[email protected]
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\Environment\Production]
"DefaultID"[email protected]
Booted the phone then went to account settings and re-entered login details and everything started working... Ecxept the address emails were sent out from.

No nothing happens. It works just fine. I have sync'd my phone with my normal hotmail ID but wanted to start using my outlook without losing all my purchased apps.
So all I had to do was go to emails+accounts and sync my outlook as Outlook email. Enter my new outlook ID and password and bang! In less than 12 seconds my outlook was sync'd to my phone and I now have access to my spanking new email address AND have hotmail AND haven't lost any of my apps, contacts etc.
I prevented a thermonuclear meltdown.

No no, you misread, I did do a hard reset!
I did a hard reset, then reset up my phone from the ground up. And it wasn't working.
At any rate, a power cycle hath fixed it still.
