Yes root, why not. who likes stock?? ewww :cyclops:
Either way you can get kitkat sooner or later so, why not root...

Current root solutions require to unlock the bootloader, which break your warranty and block OTA. If neither is important to you, then root. If they are, then wait for OTA.

Wait, since when did unlocking your bootloader block OTAs?
I had root before the OTA and was unable to update without flashing my phone to stock so if you like setting up your phone over again why not root?

Who said that was the case?
Rooting affects OTA availability. I said the only root solution right now requires the bootloader to be unlocked.

What are the benefits of rooting this phone? I know you can use adblock, greenify etc. but gravity box intrigues me.
What is so special about it?
I will root only for install the router keygen apk

I doubt that being rooted blocks the OTA...the OTA may fail for reasons of modified system files but you will still receive the OTA (this is part of the Stock system which you still have even if you root it). This would be the first phone I have ever had that worked that way...I can tell you that the unlocked bootloader does NOT affect OTA at all.
Gravitybox gives you the ability to center the status bar clock, add new and reorder the quicksettings panel, change some of the navigation bar settings (add a menu button, change the height in pixels, etc), add unlock ring targets plus some other things. Basically just modify some of the stock items to your liking.
I personally like being able to set this stuff up myself but it is up to you what you personally like to do with customization and how comfortable you are with rooting, etc.

thanks, you convinced me to root
i also used tilaz super easy method, worked awesome, less than a minute to root it
Some of my friends told me that certain Xperia features get broken after a root, and that my phone does not have a stock recovery..i earlier had a micromax a52 (didnt run into any root related problems, custom roms worked fine)
Can anybody run me through rooting my phone, installing cwm recovery and custom mods?
Does the bravia engine get disabled? Is there a way to avoid/revert it? Is bravia engine useful at all?
Just looking for a little help, noob here

Rooting guide here
If you don't unlock your bootloader no Xperia features are broken.
If you unlock your bootloader and root some functions like DRM & Software Update may not be working anymore.

It's required if you want to use custom roms based on 4.4
But there aren't any daily use roms available. You should keep it locked until Brinly Taylor releases CM.
(And if you unlock it make sure to backup your TA first)
Thankyouu
You should definitely root and then install Xposed Framework and every sort of module that you like. One of the most famous ones is Gravity box, you can almost do everything with it, for example change the size of the nav bar, which in my opinion is insanely huge by default, but you can do a lot more with it.
It's also worth installing Tinted Status Bar, Xperia Flip Settings, Xposed DTN disabler, Hide Stamina mode icon, NFC LockScreenOff Enabler, All Notifications Expanded and so on, you can do everything with root.
I have to root my fon for a call recorder to work. Shud i only root it thru motochopper or shud i go for full root by unlocking bootloader?
If you are on the latest firmware which is 15.3.A.1.14
You should really root your Xperia L by procedure written in link provided

According to me only Rooting gives you the full ownership of the phone.Root ASAP.

Hello, I have a Moto G for like the past 4 months and wanted to ask
If I ROOT Only would I lose my warranty?
Could I go back? or anything like before?
I simply want to ROOT it but do NOT want to add Roms or custom things.
Thank You
You need to unlock your phone's bootloader before rooting, so you will lose your warranty.

Can't the stock firmware image be modified to include the 'su' binary and the SuperSU app, and then be flashed through fastboot? (Or whatever the "normal" way is)
I don't really know if its possible, but seems logical
@op no way to retain warranty after unlocking BL atm.

For any sort of modification to work, bl needs to unlocked afaik. So not possible :b

I think you didn't get my point.
I meant "modifying" the stock firmware image which is available here on XDA somewhere (I think) to include the "su" binary and SuperSU app, and then flashing that through fastboot (or whatever method).
Flashing the stock firmware doesn't need unlocked BL, AFAIK.
Oops! Looks like it does
Guess I'll have to unlock the BL ultimately :/

Firmware images are signed, and if you modify them, they'd need to be resigned. Motorola's signature isn't able to be duplicated yet.

Anyway, just requesting the key from Motorola, voids the warranty.
If you are in the eu you should still have a warranty no matter what moto say but I don't know if anyone had tested it.
Does unlock bootloder or root or installing custom recovery make me lose cm ota updates???
Sent from my GT-I9082 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No they don't. Cm can reinstall its recovery and you'll just lose root when you OTA.
if you can i want to root my opo without unlocking bootloadre and i'm on 30o update and nothing seem to work , can you tell me what to do?

See http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/root-unlocking-bootloader-t2820628
But on XNPH30O it is not achievable (unless something else was changed). I recommend just unlocking your bootloader, it does no harm unlocking it and having your bootloader unlocked. I've used this analogy in other threads and I'll say it again,
On a OPO (or Nexus Device or HTC), we have a way of unlocking our bootloaders without the need of a exploit to gain root access (e.g. Samsung, LG, etc). Think of it this way, since we have a OPO... you're pretty much given a key (fastboot oem unlock) to unlock the doors to your house. Don't make it difficult on yourself and break into your house through your windows when you can just unlock the door with the key you have.
Just unlock the bootloader, flash custom recovery, flash SuperSU.
You can flash OTA updates through a custom recovery of your choice.
Thanks I just rooted my opo ....thanks again

I heard somewhere that if you run ART runtime, you won't get the OTA's. Any truth to this?

Not to my knowledge. And even if it is, you can just switch it back to dalvik. Only takes 1 minute to switch between run times.
So today I updated my razr to the newest system version (9.18/79) without checking if i could unlock the bootloader (I know, that was stupid), which all research says I can't. Will a FDR allow me to unlock the bootloader once again? I bought the device in March of 2013, will doing so revert the OS as well as the data?
No, FDR won't allow you to do that. However, you can update to the 4.4 system version that ends in .10, root, and unlock. Don't update to .15 you'll be permanently stuck.

Ok, thank you. How would I update to specifically the .10 version without going to .15?
You can use RSD lite to flash the file from here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=5 . I think the best option, though, is to follow this thread to update, root, and unlock. You'll need to register, but it'll be worth your time. http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/46155-rootunlock-442-1821834610-razr-hdm-only/
