USB cable for quick charge? - Galaxy Note 4 Accessories

I bought two Qualcomm Quick Charge universal chargers but it seems like I need cables meant for quick charging as well. I only get the quick charging notification if I use the cable that came with my Note 4. Does anyone know what I need to look for in a cable so it's compatible?

I used my cable from my S5 of the note 4 and get a quick charge notification. I have to use the Note 4 adapter though. But the USB cable is standard AFAIK

Note 4 does NOT use the qualcomm quickcharge standard. Samsung uses its own proprietary solution which works only with their charger. Any micro usb cable works though.

It's supported. It's on both qualcomm's website and Samsung's
But like I said, only when using Samsung's cable on the Qualcomm charger do I get the message

This is wrong. The fast charge Samsung uses is compatible with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 certified devices. A number of people myself included are using the Incipio or Puregear Quick Charge 2.0 12v adapters in our vehicles and the fast charging works.

You need to look for cables that are rated for the extra power capacity. I buy 28/24 cables from eBay. They are thicker and have the capacity to charge your device faster than just your regular run of the mill cables which usually only support the 500ma USB standard power.

Samsung has a travel charger which looks identical to the one that comes with the phone on their website under Note 4 accessories. Their description says it is fast charge capable.
If you register your phone with Samsung you get a 50% discount on the $39.99 price.

Is the link on Samsung's website. Somebody posted that this is not the fast charger but the description on Samsung's webpage says it is capable of fast charging and the webpage it's on is for Note 4 accessories. Perhaps call them before ordering to verify.

That sounds like the problem you had to begin with. Cheap cables usually don't work with these chargers. You need the thicker wire to carry the higher power. I thought that was your question from the beginning. I buy cables from monoprice on ebay. The 28/24 guage ones. Mines is ten foot so I can charge across the room and no problems with it whatsoever.

Funny thing is that the two USB cables I tried were from monoprice. I usually buy my cable stuff from them but these cables didn't work out too well. They don't really stay in the port properly too.
I'll see how it goes when I get the cables later next week

It actually says on the back of the box that it's Quick Charge 2 compatible.......

My cable just broke, when I use another one I get no quickcharge, only normal slow charge. Is there no spec to go buy, just a "thick" one?? I thought maybe it would have to be a 2.0 cable(they have+ on cable?), but doesn't look like Samsung original is 2.0(no+).

Try using 11 pins micro USB cable, any brand will do, but try avoiding a cheap one.
Most cheap one is 4 - 5 pins USB cable

QI charger in UK

I picked this charger up and it works great with my N4.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00ANA8TA0/ref=wms_ohs_product
Its a tiny bit picky with a case on, and if you put the phone down on the white LEG panel at the top, but otherwise brilliant.
I'll try and run the phone down low, and get a screen shot showing charging time. I don't think its that much slower than the wire (and I leave my screen on when charging)
Thanks. I bought one and it even works with the official bumper and stick on plastic cover on the back. However, the flashing blue light is annoying. I might have to open it up and disconnect it.

5V is 5V, but the USB Qi charger asks for 2A in and that's more than the N4 charger gives (I think)
Its also more than a USB 2 port can give, they are limited to 500mA normally.
USB3 can give that kind of output.
Less Amps = slower charge

Hmmm...fortunately I have a USB 3 port, would that mean I'll get a similar charge time as using the mains version?
Damn, sadly my memory failed me and it seems USB3 can only give 900mA.
Sorry to get hopes up, but I think you'd get a faster charge from a wall socket.

There's a semi-circle of tiny LEDs at the top marked D1-D12. I tried desoldering D9 and D10 but in the end I just ripped them out with tweezers because my soldering skills are seriously lacking. After putting it all back together surprisingly it still worked and it doesn't light up anymore! The LEDs must have been connected in series to each other but in parallel to the rest of the charger.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible if you open up your qi wireless charger and electrocute your cat or something. Follow these instructions at your own risk.
EDIT: Nope it still lights up, just less so. Why won't it die!?
I have the latest tasker beta setup to vibrate when wireless charging goes on and off, makes it easy to tell when its working when you can't see the leds

If the specs are right it looks like the USB one puts out ~3.5W vs the more normal 5W, so is a bit slower.
Its not really clear why it is lower power (even if the losses are higher a 1.5 or 2A 5v charger would be powerful enough). Maybe the limit is whatever step up conversion they use to increase the 5v for transmission.
Google's help site says the nexus 4 charger is 1.2A (I thought it was 1.5), but this should still work fine with this Qi charger. If it turns out it can put out more like 5W then you would be slightly better off with a 2A charger.
I am quite tempted by this USB one anyway because it is a bit more flexible - you can use other sources such as batteries or even a pc. Most of the other ones (besides the nokia) use 19v so you cant use much besides the included mains adapter.
Anyway, thanks for the links in this thread - I had been considering buying the same one as you but from mobilefun for more money.

Can some one provide a link for turbo charger for x play and if theres no link can someone tell me its price?
Just buy any charger that can provide 2.4a on a single port. All chargers have ampere rating information mentioned in their box. If they have multiple USB ports, you need to divide the max ampere with them. I prefer single USB port because it's easier to identify and be sure
Tronsmart, Qualcom Quick charge 2 compatible - about £7.99p at Amazon perfect ?

download ampere app and monitor the charge. from 0%-50% the phone should be getting 2.4A. if it's not, get a different usb cable, a good quality one. you can tell a good usb cable if it's not easy to roll, meaning that it's made with thicker metal.

Jesus. Wireless charging means something different (usually refers to inductive charging). Explain it as built-in charging and makes more sense for some.

Well built in charging would be something like kinetic charging such as that found in a nice mechanical watch. Manufacturers have been trying to generate enough power in that method, quite unsuccessfully for years.
Now what we could do instead of asking me or OP to refer to it as something you individually understand, maybe you instead could educate yourself in some way to the generally used lexicon in the industry which certainly is "wireless charging."
Here are some terms from the Internet which I assume you have?
Wireless charging case. A case that can charge a phone with an inbuilt wireless receiver
Battery case. A case that can charge your phone because it has a built in battery pack.
Now this could also be a wireless enabled battery case but we will save that one for a later reply where you try and justify your original comment.

Lol I don't care to go on, my only point to my reply was your snarkiness about things that people misunderstood. Samsung used to have replacement battery door to enable inductive charging, also referred to as wireless charging. If you simply Google wireless charging look at what comes up.
The OP clarified what they were looking for so I was incorrect in my assumption of what they were looking for. That is all.

I don't think so. The Holy Grail would certainly be a case which inserted into the phone's ucb-c jack and then either had a pass-through which shut off the charging flow or was an extension which allowed a plugged in usb-c(which of course would also need to shut off the qi charging flow).
Would love to see that, but I'm a developer, not an engineer, so not sure this is even possible.

I know in the early days of USB-C some chargers were tested to be non 100% compatible and can actually damage your device.

Yes, that's the same Belkin charger that both Google and Verizon sells. Benson Leung also highly recommends it.

Direct from Belkin is the only way I've found in the UK, it's not on our Google store just yet

Benson Leung approves of this Car Charger able to give at least 5v 3A, 15W charging.

Should look at Anker, cheaper than what Verizon will get you but really good quality. I have to order a new one cause I forgot to lock the car one night and someone just had to go car hopping that night.

There are no Anker USB Power Delivery chargers?
My blitzwolf usb c car charger fed 2400mA this morning, phone at 66%, got to 99% by the time I got to work. It's as fast as my zerolemon QC wall charger on my lg g4.
Well worth the $5 shipped from banggoods

That's only 10.8W - far cry from the 18W the phone is capable of.

I was pointing out a car charger that works, includes a cabled usb-c and additional usb A port at a low cost of only $5 delivered, that doesn't fry the Pixel.
I am sure you know that the phone and chargers negotiate different levels of charging dependant on several conditions. In particular notice in my post, the phone was at 66% charge, far from depleted, which would have probably triggered a faster charge.
Please show us what car charger you're using and the tests you ran.

How do you know it won't fry the Pixel? It's some cheap thing from China. USB C has had a lot of shady manufacturers. I would not be trusting my phone to that.
You need a USB PD charger. Type C should hit 5V/3A, or 80% of the maximum possible, 9V/2A, but still... it's not guaranteed safe.

quick charge 3?

hey guys, I know huawei has its own proprietary fast charge solution, but does it also work with quick charge 3 chargers? Like is it slower because the battery is big or is it slower because it detects it as a normal charger
I read, or watched in a video, that if you are using most quick chargers it will charge faster than normal but just not at the speeds of their proprietary quick charge.
Of course with quick chargers there is always the caveat of the crap knockoff ones verse good ones so milage may vary.

Been searching everywhere for one myself, no luck thus far. Please report if you find one anywhere.
You need both charger and cable to be compatible for Huawei's super charge. I tried using 3rd party cable with stock charger and it is just normal charging

Really? That's awful, can you check the difference with the charges by using the ampere app?

No I don't have the ability to do that.
But based on the numbers on the charger, I think you need at least 4.5A for super charge to work

Keep in mind the issues of USB C non standard cables being rampant. Lots of USB C stuff is crap and not up to snuff.

One of the reviews mentioned the need for the Huawei cable. They said it has additional pins that aren't in a standard USB-C cable. They indicated that the reason they can charge faster is because there are two batteries that are being charged in parallel, though that may have been speculation. If true, that would explain the need for a special charger: it would need dual outputs.

It is false, there is just one battery and the cable has nothing to do with the number of batteries.

I can't say it's true or false, but how do you know it's false? "Two" batteries doesn't necessarily mean the cells are physically arranged in separate casings. And if there were two separate batteries, you would need more connections to be able to control the voltage/amperage to the needs of each one. Sending a single power connection to the phone then modulating that within the phone would likely put too much bulk and heat into the phone, better to keep it in the charger.
I just bought the phone, I'll test it using ampere (mah) using the original charger and then using quick charge 2 plus USB C adapter
Oh my God, blew my mind away, this is with the original charger, unbelievable, comparing to my S6 qc2, max was 1020 mA
Ok so I did three tests, one with huawei original charger+cable, the results was in my previous post, and now with a qc2 charger using huawei cable..
We find that it's much slower.. But the big surprise is that using Samsung cable with the qc2 and micro USB to USB C adapter, we get this.
1. Huawei original (3650mA)
2. QC 2 WITH HUAWEI CABLE (2100mA)
3.QC 2 micro USB to USB C adapter cable (1200ma)
So that means QC 2 or 3 are good relatively but only if you use huaweis cable.. So there you go.

I thought you meant using a physical multimeter to test for the current at first lol. I didn't know there is an app for this. Stupid me.
Here is my findings:
3rd party cable with 3rd party charger output 2A:
3rd party cable with stock charger
Stock cable with stock charger:
As we can see it matches the output current stated on the charger drawing between 4.5A to 5A and you need the stock cable to enable it.

Huawei's SuperCharge is the fastest of any fast charging protocols we've tested at XDA. We're working on publishing an article soon about our comparisons and findings once we've finished our graphs.
