I know in the early days of USB-C some chargers were tested to be non 100% compatible and can actually damage your device.
It is about time I got a USB-C car charger.
I should not worry they should all be 100% compatible ?
What have you purchased for your car if you care to recommend something ?
Never mind I see google sells a USB-C Car Charger https://store.google.com/product/belkin_27w_usb_c_car_charger
I am just going to assume it is safe and order one.

Verizon sells that same car charger for $5 cheaper.

with this converter:

It works perfectly in her 6p, even fast charging.

Should look at Anker, cheaper than what Verizon will get you but really good quality. I have to order a new one cause I forgot to lock the car one night and someone just had to go car hopping that night.
This charger from Belkin supports USB C P.D up to 27W so it will charge the pixels at full 18W rapid charge, reputable brand too.

There are no Anker USB Power Delivery chargers?
My blitzwolf usb c car charger fed 2400mA this morning, phone at 66%, got to 99% by the time I got to work. It's as fast as my zerolemon QC wall charger on my lg g4.
Well worth the $5 shipped from banggoods

That's only 10.8W - far cry from the 18W the phone is capable of.

I was pointing out a car charger that works, includes a cabled usb-c and additional usb A port at a low cost of only $5 delivered, that doesn't fry the Pixel.
I am sure you know that the phone and chargers negotiate different levels of charging dependant on several conditions. In particular notice in my post, the phone was at 66% charge, far from depleted, which would have probably triggered a faster charge.
Please show us what car charger you're using and the tests you ran.

How do you know it won't fry the Pixel? It's some cheap thing from China. USB C has had a lot of shady manufacturers. I would not be trusting my phone to that.
You need a USB PD charger. Type C should hit 5V/3A, or 80% of the maximum possible, 9V/2A, but still... it's not guaranteed safe.

You can get any 5v micro usb car charger from just about anywhere...
However, I might suggest this Micro USB Car adapter:

Use that + any usb cable and you'll never have to buy a car charger again!

I picked up one of these at Best Buy the other day and it works great for my N1, my girlfriend's MT3G, and my iPod. Basically, since most devices come with a USB cord that can be used to charge the device, it's a VERY good investment

+1 for monoprice they are seriously awesome! highly highly recommended! If you buy cables from anywhere but here you are a sucker
Something to think about: make sure, or TRY to get a charger that does 5v 1a...otherwise it's stuck slow-charging, basically just keeping it alive. Most el-cheapo chargers are 5v .5a.
I'm using a belkin micro car charger with the usb cable that came with my phone. Rated at 5v 1a, and it works very well.
I had a crappy old one that I was using and if my phone was dying, it would basically just keep my phone on, I would have to leave it plugged in for a long time to get it charged up. The new 1a unit will actually give me a decent charge, and I don't have to wait an hour.
I usually shop with these guys and rate of which items have gone wrong was so far 0%, so lucky for me.
You may find the car charger you want from them, hope it helps.

Samsung isn't "Quick Charge". It's their own knockoff/brand/flavor of the same concept.
So Samsung chargers won't work with any other brand phones, and you can't get a Quick Charge with a Samsung phone. Kind of annoying of them, but I guess they're free to do what they want.

Got this in tonight, thought I'd share some pics. All of the paperwork that came with it is pretty much either how to return stuff you don't like or how to post a review on Amazon lol. The pictures attached show you all the information on the actual charger. I obviously don't have anything that can use the Type C for it yet but I will charge my lg g3 with a regular micro USB tomorrow. If anyone knows of a way for me to do some testing and tells me how I'm more than willing to do it.

They might not be calibrated for your G4(?). If it shows some whacky +/- 4000mah, then it's obviously wrong.

As per one of the description on Amazon:
2x 1.5A if both ports are in use
or 1x 3A if single port (which is what RED ZMAN is hopefully able to test for us)
AFAIK you can't deliver 5V @ 3A over a USB-A connector... that is wholly unique to USB Type-C. The best you can do with USB Power Delivery spec is 5V @ 2A. So IF this charger can really deliver 15W power, it will only be via the USB-C port. I plan on testing with my Chromebook Pixel using a USB-A to USB-C and a USB-C to USB-C. I don't think I can measure actual wattage, but I can compare "time to full" calculations using each port.

I messed around with it today along with several different apps to try to measure the actual charge rate but wasn't successful. The LG g3 seems to have issues with most of these apps and the ones that showed readings that looked meaningful we're showing things like 520 mAh. This was with a decent quality cable that I have grown to trust quite a bit.
I have some types C cables coming but without anything to plug it into I really can't do much more measuring. I will say this does not feel like a cheap charger and I'm kind of impressed with how good it looks in the car. It also did seem to be charging my phone very well, and was a consistent 50 to 70 mah higher than the other charger I was using which was the accessory USB A port for a Tylt Qi wireless charger dock/mount.
Hopefully somebody with a USB C device they can measure with is able to get us good readings.

I'm pretty sure you're right about the limits of the USB-A. I think it's limited to 2.1A, so yeah, you'll need to have a type-c to type-c cable with a 5v/3a charger to get this to work. Ah well, the micro-usb run was nice while it lasted.
Question for the OP also, how well does the charger fit in the outlet? I read a few reviews on Amazon that say it's pretty loose in some and doesn't stay seated.

We had no problems at all with it staying in place. I use a lot of retractable cables so you're pulling on them to let them retract and it never moved unless they directly pulled on the charger. Tight fit.

interested in updates. although i'd like to see a charger that doesn't split the amperage between ports. i have a BT receiver and a charging cable in the device that i have now, so if there's one that can provide power to both A and C without splitting, that would be ideal.
who know, it's 3A at 5V, no one will know until we have the 6p

Hmm, you got me there. I got in my Cable Matters USB-C to USB-C cable, to go along with my USB-A to USB-C cable. Sometime soon I will try both with the Vinsic charger and my Chromebook Pixel and see if they both charge at the same speed. I'm still not sure if Chrome OS has a "time to full" charging indicator or anything, though. With the Pixels 60W Type-C charger, the thing charges so dang fast it's almost always fully charged
You can use an app called GSam battery to measure the current, very interested to know if the A port is a proper 3A one

It sounds like you're **assuming** because it failed, it must not be original?
I'm not so sure that's a safe assumption. Nonetheless, I'd avoid the oem charger (I have multiple of them) as they get pretty warm, as does the phone, when charging.
Go with something that is highly rated and certified for Quick Charge 3. The Anker I bought charges faster and stays cooler than oem chargers do. There are various QC3 mfg to choose from, get one with high ratings and u should be all set.
This is the one I got, it works fine: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077HFFLMS/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

Ok thanks ?
FYI, the V30 is also USB PD compatible. It will quick charge with type C laptop chargers as well as Pixel and Essential phone chargers.
Edit- Nekteck brand makes IF certified chargers, it is available from Amazon and I have a car and wall charger that have both served me well.
Agreed, Anker is a great brand. Aukey is another good one - their cables are terrible (at least for USB micro, in my experience). Still, these are two great ways to go without wasting money on the LG (or any other brand's) rebadging.
I always use Blitzwolf. They have some great chargers / cables.
I also bought an Aukey one and it seems solid.
Just to put in my opinion, I like Blackweb products.

No. You need Qualcomm certified QuickCharge for fast charge. OnePlus won't license that.

Off topic, but are you staying with LG for 5 more years? If so I need you to give a heads up on every unlocked V series device with fastboot commands.
Sent from my LG-H932 using XDA Labs
I just got a wireless charger, this kind of weird off-brand:
New poster so can't link. Search Amazon for "Yootech 7.5W/10W/15W Fast Wireless Charger with Cooling Fan,7.5W Wireless Charging Stand with QC3.0 Adapter Compatible iPhone 11/11 Pro/11 Pro Max,15W LG V30/V35/G8,10W Galaxy Note10/S10,Pixel 3/4XL" It's about $22.
I bought it because it supports up to 15W and comes with a charger. Anyway, I put the device on the charger and I'm seeing 13.2W consistently:

This is both cool and kind of unsettling to me. Is the charger violating specs and sending more power than the Pixel 4 XL can take or can the phone take more power than the 11W advertised?

Phone can take more than advertised.
Pixel Stand charges mine at that rate.
I might have seen 15w once too.
Maybe it's 13.2 watts from the charger, but the pixel only gets 11 watts. Not sure what the loss is but it's not 1 to 1.
The wireless charger for the car I got gets to that level but it seems to cause the phone to run hot. once it reaches 104 F it stops charging. I have had to reposition the charger to the AC vent to circulate air and sometimes for the AC to cool it so it'll keep charging. Is it better to get a wireless charger that doesn't output that much power?

Just bought that one for my daughter, so that's good to know it charges that fast.
To be honest, I don't trust Inware's reported power draw anymore. I dropped my phone onto an old Tylt 5W pad and the app reported 8.4W, up to about 10W at one point. I seriously doubt that the pad is able to do that and suspect that it's misreporting. What other apps do people use to measure charge rates?
I bought the latest version of this charger. Amazon has 5 SKUs for this. 2 older models, one with charger, one without. 2 newer models. one with charger, one without. Finally a black version which I can't tell if it's new or not.
The updated version I bought for my Pixel 4XL shows charging at 10W using Inware. That's fast enough for me.
I am guessing that for the Pixel to say fast charging it has to reach 18W? The only time I have seen it say fast is plugged in with fast compatible chargers.
I have to say this version feels premium and fancy. Very nice.
One last thing, gave up having my mini wallet attached to the back of the phone. Not even the Google Wireless stand can maintain good contact for it to charge. On my previous Samsung i had no problems charging with the wallet attached with 3 cards in it. No luck with the Pixel.

Nevermind. For some reason I thought this was about a car charger
