Hi
I've been hearing different things about the build quality of the shield tab... Anyone care to comment?
How bad is the bezel cracking issue? Has nvidia done something to mitigate the issue? Is it an "official flaw"? More prevelant on some models, or less on others?
Other known issues?
Thanks in advance!!!

As far as the cracking sides they will RMA any that have the issue. Supposedly it was a build issue in earlier batches that has been resolved. I just had my replacement RMA because the screen was super sensitive to pressure and the center would show the lcd waves even with light use of the sylus. I just told them it was abnormal compared to my last one and they RMAed it for me. I wouldn't say the build is on par with my M8 but it's no worse than my old 1st gen N7.
Thanks for the info
Btw heard things about the wifi, had issues?
It doesn't have support for the ac standard ? Correct?
Any other issues? Overheating , hw issues / quirkes?

I am thinking about purchasing a G2X but am concerned over build quality issues I've read on other forums (screen separation, bleeding). Suspecting that these issues may be related to build date, can anyone tell me the manufacturing date of thier "good" G2X? Thanks in advance.

my "good" g2x was bought on the first day of sale.. an original.
I'll let you in on a little secret. I have screen bleed.. but I cannot and would not have noticed it unless someone said something about it. My phone was awesome, not a single issue. Then people started to complain about screen bleed.. and I remember thinking something like.. "Huh.. I don't see anything on mine.. It looks great! Apparently I got a good phone!" Then someone said "Install the app called Draw... have your brightness up all the way, and make sure you're in a dark room." So I did. Guess what happened? I all of a sudden had a build quality issue.
So ya, now when I have my screen brightness up, and when I boot the phone in a dark room.. I see some bleeding in the top corners. It's just as bad as those posting pictures and complaining. But guess what, I don't see it any other time.
As far as I'm concerned, it's 100% a non-issue and it only became an issue for me when people started to point it out and I looked for the problem. I say go buy one.. and check it out. You have a 14 day return window. Test it for yourself. Whatever you do, don't "look" for the lcd bleed... cuz you'll find it. lol
Thanks for the quick reply. This is exactly what I was thinking as I read the other posts. I don't think that bleed will be an issue for me. I am a bit concerned about the screen separation problems I've seen. Either way, I think I'll try it out.
4/14/2011, have no screen bleed or separation problems.
Only issue is a hot battery that leads to a lock up/reboot. However, I just got a new battery today from Tmo, so hopefully that will fix it.
Hi all, I've got a 2 month old i9023, stock, updated to 2.3.6, unrooted.
Ever since I purchased it, I've noticed a strange streak-like artifact on the screen, which only seems to appear when any app utilizes a low contrast palette (e.g. dark grey on black).
It's hard to describe, so I'm attaching two images: the first is from FBReader (where the artifact is most obvious due to all the text), and another is from the stock calendar, just to prove that it can occur in stock apps as well.
In both images, I've adjusted the contrast of the lower half of the images to highlight the artifact. Sorry for the crappy image quality -- cheap camera.
I've a friend who has an i9020. I've checked his phone, and the artifact is not seen on the OLED screen. Is this a SLCD only issue? Has anyone else experienced this and how did you solve it (if you managed to)? I'm hoping to avoid sending it in for warranty 'cause I just know it'll take ages to resolve.
Hi, can someone with an i9023 verify whether similar visual "streaks" are present on your display? Thanks!

Well I don't have I9023 specifically , but I think those artifacts are abnormal !!
Does your purchase include any sort of warranty ?
i have an almost one year old I9023 and never saw somenthing like that
I have an i9023 too and have no such artifacts. Looks like screen bleeding.
I'd definitely be taking that to samsung, though you'll have to weigh up the benefits and uselessness of them.
Thanks guys, looks like it's a hardware issue then.
Yeah, I'm reaaaally loath to step into the black hole that is warranty claims. Ah well, gotta bite the bullet some time I guess.

if you bought it at a brick-and-mortar store you could just take it back there, you could save yourself some time (and frustration!)
Okay, I'm going to make this quick, I'm thinking of getting the Sony Xperia Z3, I'm super excited about it and everything, but this Screen Cracking Issue has got to me enough to post this thread. Has the Screen Cracking issue been fixed? Can someone with good knowledge about this reply? Maybe others can benefit from this thread too!
Thanks in advance!

You left it an hour between posts - calm down.
Well, what do you think? Is there an issue? If there's no issue, can it be fixed? Are you sure all the people who claim their screen just broke for no reason aren't lying? You'll notice what look like impact damage on some of the photos of people who've had their screens just break. That's odd. Does glass just break on its own? How is that? How many Z3s have been manufactured? What percentage have broken? Pick a point of failure on a phone. "Doesn't charge". "Touch screen not working". "Poor reception". Now google for that term, adding the model of any phone released in the last 5 years. Loads of hits, huh? Funny, that. It's almost as if some mass produced devices are always going to fail either initially, or after a certain amount of use.

Thanks for the reply, Good points. I've taken all of them into account. However.. This problem is Sony Xperia Z line specific. I've never seen any other phone do the same thing. Do you have a z3? Any problems?
Matter of fact, I'd like to hear everyones views on their z3 so far.
Just an FYI there is already another thread on this, and yes some are getting defective models, The Z1 had a similar issue and after BBC's Watchdog program did an investigation Sony replaced phones with single fine cracks for free. Still hard to prove that you did not drop it though, so 50/50 chance of a free replacement. I have insurance from TMO, just in case.

Yes, I know. I prefer not to take the risk. I'm going with an s5 instead. This problem doesn't occur on there.

That is a great phone as well, I'm sure you won't be dissapointed. Enjoy!
This will be my second replacement through Amazon. My first unit wouldn't read any sim I placed in the device which I just put down to bad luck considering I couldn't find any other user with the same issue. The second (my current unit) has developed a sort of LCD distortion around the mid right of the screen. When touched it is visible enough to cause me to notice it when using apps with lighter backgrounds, it is even more prominent when using the stylus. I have never encountered this on any touch screen I have used before and was wondering if anyone else has had this? I saw a thread on the NVIDIA forums discussing it but not on here.
I will say this much for sure, on the two units so far the battery life has been terrible. I really want to love this device as overall it's been great for games and emulation... but with all the issues and battery life i'm thinking that if this unit is no better i'll give this tablet a miss and hope the next version is fixed.

I have this issue with my tablet, and unfortunately lots of people on the geforce forums are as well. Supposedly the RMA units being sent out as replacements overwhelmingly have the same issue (See Jasons posts at https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/793383/shield-tablet/nvidia-guilty-of-fraud/1/). I have an RMA being sent to me as we speak, and I really hope I don't have this problem again.

I contacted Amazon to ask about the feedback they have received on units they've sold, the customer service advisor claimed nothing but positive feedback and no issues such as the ones on the Nvidia forums. All of that said, from what i've seen so far, this tablet is riddled with manufacturing flaws and i'm worried the lifespan will be much shorter than any smartphone or tablet I have bought before.
I feel sorry for the consumers who have had to RMA they're units multiple times, this will be my third Shield Tablet and it seems many others have gone through 3 or more to find one that is right, is this acceptable?
Then others score a perfect tablet like myself.
Same thing with phones, when N5 was released, never saw so many go through so many returns to achieve a level of some perfection.
Yet, the two I bought were perfect, I just don't get it myself neither.
Same happened with N7(13), N4 and N7(12).
I never had to return one because it was defective.
I read about this supposedly sub par in cell tech used on our display, that it distorts under pressure. I called bs on it first time I read it, tested myself, had to push so hard moisture in my skin wouldn't allow me to slide my finger on display.
Seem excessive?
Sure does, now if you're just touching it an it happens it is an issue, but if you can see blood pooling under your finger nail, the defect is above screen level IMO.
Harsh maybe, I'm sorry but that's my view on it here.

It's definitely a problem with this tablet, that and the cracked edges i've been seeing a lot of topics on. I've been using touch screen devices since around the time of the 1st generation iPod touch and i've never returned a single product back with any of the issues i've had/seen with this tablet which I am now on my third unit.
The screen itself needs little pressure for the screen to distort, which is now in two places on the screen. I'm far too careful with my devices and do not use excessive pressure on the screen.

Yes, I do believe there are some bad units made.
Nvidia is a gem for standing behind unit so well.
Hopefully you get a decent one soon.

I'm happy to say the RMA'd unit I received is in great working order. No screen issues, no battery issues, wifi is good, and speakers/build quality are good.

Since you have no battery issues, what is your screen on time like during a full cycle. I have been wondering since I get only about 3 1/2 hours.
Here in China, was about to buy the phone.
I have seen several reviews mentioned the lense flare issue.
wondering whether this is a software problem or a hardware issue. Will it be fixed sooner or later?
Appreciate your comments.
Seems likely to be hardware related. I have only seen it once or twice and it has to be in the perfect lighting arrangement to really see it. I think it is being blown way out of proportion, it isn't anywhere near as bad as the internet would have you believe.

I've never seen it happen on my pixel and I take a lot of photos. Any camera will show flare if you're shooting towards the light... even my $4k DSLR..

I've seen it often but it doesn't look too bad. I'll attach a picture where it's caused by the backlight of my computer screen
I can reproduce it in certain conditions. For example, I can reproduce the halo on my phone when the light source is facing the opposite direction of the camera and I angle the camera precisely the right away. Aside from that, I've never had it affect any photos unless I'm intentionally trying to get it do so to see what's causing it. I've never had it show up in any of my outdoor photos yet.
It is definitely blown way out of proportion by people on the internet, IMO. It doesn't really happen to me unless I'm shooting right at the sun or a bright light source (which is kind of a bad way to take photographs in general anyway).
I have received my blue Pixel yesterday and thought that Google possibly did something to fix it and didn't expect my unit to have this. An hour ago, I was trying the camera out and was in the kitchen. When the light source was on left from me, then halo appeared, tilting/moving the phone closer towards the left(to the light), then halo started to diminish and after 15-20 degrees it was no longer affecting the shot. The halo thing is easy to spot and user is just able to turn a little and have a perfectly nice shot. I am personally not concerned about this unless the issues would be very severe and would appear in multiple angles. I think the back glass panel could be the issue.
Well noted, thank you guys for your response. will try to buy one from goole, ship to USA, then transfer to China.
