Very good news, probably in 2-3 months at most.

Slowly im thinking we won't get any updates any more...Samsung will release another s5 version with 5.0 In 3-4 months there will be 5.3 or something then Samsung will tell we skip 5.0 to 5.3 like with 4.4.3 or now 4.4.4 and all this only to push note 4 and edge but the best part of that is that they will tell in few months that note 3 galaxy s5 got 4.4.4 cause Verizon/sprint and s5 lte a like with s3 actually they updated china/korea s3 to 4.4.4 why they are wasting time to work on region specific firmware and then bulls hit like this to current flagships (note 4 is 2 weeks old and has 4.4.4 ) im owner of tab 3 s3 s4 s5 and n3 I love Samsung but their confusing bulls hit update policy is making me pissed off that company.... I think my next phone will be oneplus one follower....or nexus ...

Bad news for the Note 4 port..

Stop been so negative. This is good news. Means we will get 5.0 even quicker. It's a very good move. Think I'll keep my note 3 now.

Dont write this on public site - Samsung may read that and dont upgrade N3 at all (then you must buy N4) I think its good move - i can wait for new android - my N3 is working fine.
I had n2, now n3 and i will buy n4 when price will a little bit lower.

note 3 will get 5.0 for sure. based on 18 months support. most ppl won't upgrade every year. note 4 is mostly for note 2 users.

2-3 is a bit too optimistic. 6 months is my wild guess. as the spen apps testing.

i think its a good move from Samsung to update the Note3 with Android 5 , this shows that ppl who buy a Samsung device ( flagship ) dont have to worry that their device would be outdated after a year and that it is a good investment.

Maybe they release that before I buy a new phone
Never Samsung again.
Maybe Huewai or Nexus.

Be glad. If we'd gotten 4.4.4,we would not have gotten 5.0.(as we already had one major upgrade, and we only get two in total.)
Oh, and normally I'm not this childish, but right now I just can't help it.
I told you so.
There. That's to everyone who told me I was wrong repeatedly and none too kindly when I said weeks ago that this would be the case.

Good good. The only issue is how long it would take. Interestingly the Tweet says the international versions.

if samsung still follow their normal screw you we lied on update style... we will keep getting push backward until all new device release got a good sale...

If it comes, it will be at most by mid 2015 !!!
Don't forget the latest products will get Android 5 first and this won't be before the end of 2014...

There is already a version leaked for the S4 which looks promising:

I keep my estimate - first week of February (or before) for international Note 3, and we'll see at that point who was right

Of course we will get 5.0 lol... the phone is still retailing at ££549.00 here in the UK, I came from LG G3, what does that say. Also, as a sidenote somebody said "they need to sell Note 4's" that has nothing to do with it, Note 4 doesn't launch with Lollipop.
EDIT: also, people please have some consideration for people whose first language is not English. Stop being grammar nazis if you wish to complain about someones grammar, help them with it. Don't be a **** about it.

Maybe JB is released to solve brick bug present in ICS for these devices...
This may answer why ICS hasn't officially been released yet for 3 months in many regions (including mine).
Yeah, I do hope that brick bug gets fixed. Although there was a fix found for that as I remember. It was posted around the forums.
I really hope this will fix the major Bluetooth issue with the ICS version of this tablet!

Then it would cost them a lot of bricked devices due to broken recovery in ics
I hope they are in hurry to fix that in order to reduce the number of RMA requests due to hard brick while resetting to factory default
Since Samsung is already putting out test releases of 4.1 JB for the P3100 (tab 2.7 ) It might not be too long. Yeah , I know, its a different processor.

I hope that too. but I hope for Wi-Fi fix for current official rom first.
Present I use CM10 because I can't connect Wi-Fi in many sites. :crying:
I tried more solution but can't solve this problem
Don't expect to receive the update until next year for P6200 and 6 month (maybe a year?) for P6210.
I'm not happy with Samsung and I'm not alone.
I bought my gtab and a Sony smartphone 6 month ago.
In 6 month the phone receive 5 updates (3 GB and 2 ICS) and in the same time my gtab receive only one update (crappy Honeycomb).
Luckily XDA is here for me and I can flash ICS with Odin (but first attempt trigger the infamous brick bug).
It's a shame to spend for 350 € (I live in Belgium) and see our product forgotted by his constructor.
Long time ago I've a same story with a Toshiba tablet and tell me not to revive this with my new tablet.
I choose to buy Samsung to avoid this but this firm disappointed me.
One thing is certain my next tab won't be a Samsung.!

The lack of SD afraid me too but I don't want to ear a single word about iOS products
I've a mac computer back but the fruit company disgust me now specialy with her mobile products.
ACER or ASUS could be a good choice but Sony makes products that look different.

This is great news, but I hope that they fix the wifi issue. My wife's tablet cannot stay connected to the wifi, and it is like it has become worse the further away she moved from Honeycomb. I also hope that they reinstate App2SD ability and give us the option to add our own apps or shortcuts to the mini apps tray.. I don't care how long it takes to receive an update, just as long as they fix the wifi and app2sd issues.
Hopefully this update will bring more interested developers for our tablets.

they are still privy on the price of the phone but i guesstimate it between 35-40K...release is pushed and the launch is on the last week of september
How's responsiveness?
Preparing to replace my Note with either this or the Z1.
Just wondering:
1.) How is lag and hangs on the Note3? Did any show up while you are using it? Preferably while you are doing the benchmark or under heavy load.
2.) How about accuracy of the screen? The note is off by a few pixels how about this? I think this was well documented problem on the note, I'll describe it if you are not familiar with it.
3.) Touch responsiveness? The note is slow on the lockscreen when you have pin lock. Try something like 160425 as your pin (no that is not my pin, I just randomly chose a 6 digit that can take advantage of both thumbs so you can press them very fast one after the other with preferably 1-2ms lag between each press), then press them 1 after the other very fast preferably on 2handed use. A lot of the times 1 of them won't register or will register wrong for the Note1. How about the Note3?
I'm a bit of a power user and the lag on the Note is annoying and is still laggy even after being rooted and flashed with slim bean. Just wanted to hear your take on the note3. As this might be the tie breaker for me.
I'm very disappointed with the Note (I wanted to throw it away after 6months of use but is under a 2yrs contract so... yeah) Mostly with TW and the screen, I even have ghost presses on the screen (luckily it was replaced while in warranty). So kinda want to stay away from sammy this round but between the Note3 and the Z1, the Note3 has the advantage of 3gb ram and 32gb storage (I'm on smart and I'm sure they will only have this version) on the hardware side and sammy usually have the bootloader unlocked, I expect this one to be the same while the Z1 will have it locked and I will lose a lot of the built-in features for unlocking it. But the lag on my Note is a big downer for getting another sammy that I'm willing to fore go the advantage of sammy for sony.
Thanks =)

Most probably your correct on the estimated launch price as Samsung will be selling the 32gb variant unlike before where they launch the 16gb for note2. Personally, I really prefer the 32gb and I'm very happy that Samsung decided to scrap the 16gb variant for note 3. Please update us on any new details with regards to launch date, venue and most especially the reservation of units.. Thanks and more power to you! :fingers-crossed:

1. with the new proc i found it snappier than the stock tw from the s4 variant. i dont usually benchmark tests since they are not that reliable but if there's one i use 3dmark (scores excellent almost above the Sony z1 line)
2. the accuracy of the screen has vastly improved from both the note 1 and 2 (which both i also own)...the pen is precise and pin point
3. touch response is excellent and the whole screen now even those at the sides of the bezel can be touched controlled as well...
i have almost all the galaxy lines of samsung and the note 3 delivers even on stock...what more if you can mod it, too much potential

I recently spoke to a Samsung rep (Samsung's website live chat) and with a Samsung rep (in person). Both said:
"it will be updated, at least to Android 4.3, but we cannot tell you when".
So I'm pretty sure we are getting 4.3 at some point. Heck, if the Note 2 and S III got it, it's only reasonable that our Note 10.1 gets it. It was the flagship tablet of its (short) time, such as the Note 2 and S III being flagships/high-end. Everyone's been saying that Samsung won't update it to force us go for the Note 10.1 2014 edition, so why did the Note 2 and Galaxy S III get the update (ok, ok, Galaxy Gear blabla)? Wouldn't they force you to go for a Note 3 and Galaxy S IV? You get my point.
So, be prepared to wait (wait... wait... wai...), and official news about the updates *cough kitkat* are coming.
My guess is: Android 4.3 and no Android 4.4, unfortunately but thankfully.

well.. actually with KitKat the have gone reverse. like a phone with 512 mb can run it.
Some older model (2010) phones are capable of running a slimed version of kitkat
So there is no chance that our beloved note 10.1 couldnt run it
There are several other threads on this topic. It possibly depends on combinations of hardware and ROMs. I'm quite sure it started after the upgrade to xxucma8. It could be a combination of certain apps. But it's a nuisance.
NO Note 2 Phone updated
I keep seeing this several times on this forum . The NOTE 2 Phone has not got the 4.3 update. There is no word on when we will get it. A few days back there was a so Called leak for the [email protected] Version. Some have tried it on t-mobile(what i have note 2 phone. But with Large issues. I cant say how this leak is running on a at&t note 2.
So the bottom line is NO Update for note 2 phone.
If you find one differently let me know Because i want My Update. Its a expensive phone to be left behind.

Seriously, if the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 gets Android 4.2.2, our Note must get some sort of update, don't you guys think? Otherwise they wouldn't update Galaxy Tab 2 and make you buy the Tab 3.
So, calm down everyone, we are probably getting a newer Android version

Seriously, if the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 gets Android 4.2.2, our Note must get some sort of update, don't you guys think? Otherwise they wouldn't update Galaxy Tab 2 and make you buy the Tab 3.
So, calm down everyone, we are probably getting a newer Android version

Didnt 2014 just came on sale in Canada? I think this is the problem - 2014 model isnt even sold world wide. I think they want people to replace their old 2012 models to new one. If they update the 2012 model, people wouldnt see any reason to upgrade or buy newer and more expenisive device. Dont know... just speculating...
But budget price tab2 gets an update before their premium line device - this is something you wont expect to see and happen when buying a premium prize device. You expect to get a premium class customer care, dont you? Unfortunately it seems to be something special that Samsung cannot offer... A flagship without updates... so sad...

Well,
i am too waiting for a next update :a welcome feature would be multi user support and some new features from Galaxy note 10.1 2014.
and keeping support for AC-3 codecs!
It's been nearly a year and i have still the same TW 4.1.2 rooted system.

WAIT, AC-3 codecs? Isn't that Player dependent? Not OS Dependent?

Then how do you explain this: http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/10/google-clarifies-18-month-android-upgrade-program-details-far-f/
Google clarifies 18 month Android upgrade program

"The only hard number thrown out today is 18 months. That's how long future hardware will be in the support cycle" (from your link above)
Support and applicable updates. I didnt see that they said phones will get all Android updates. As far as I know, there is no such contract. If you wish to get Android updates, only Nexus line is supported for 18 months.
Samsung is known to be lazy but this is too much for a premium class flagship model. It's already 10months I got A4.1. and then nothing while my bfs budget prize Asus Tf300 has 4.2 (already 6 months ago).

Yes, it's true, Asus is superb, as always when it comes to firmware updates. Very close to Nexus line.
However, their QC is another story.
BTW, anyone who says Sony is great with updates haven't any experience with their VAIO line.

[Q] Get the Note 4 or wait for S6?

I am lucky enough to be able to get an upgrade this week and was planning on doing it Feb 27th. I have plans on getting the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 because I have been told its the best phablet/Android large device etc.
HOWEVER, with the announcement of the S6 on March 1st...opinions on if I should wait and get the S6 or will the Note 4 still be larger and superior?
I prefer the series over the note series. So I suggest wait. But of you are eligible for an upgrade on the 27th why not wait until the note 5 is released? What are you working with right now?

LG G2 Almost 2 years old.
Well, I personally would wait. Eligible for an upgrade from my s5 and I'm just waiting for the s6. It's really your choice.

Well, they are in two different market segment. Note 4 got 5.7" screen and S6 got 5.1"(may even down to 5" this time). If you real need a large screen, you have no choice but only Note4.
Personally, I will pick S6 because the camera will be improved and got RAW and manual shutter speed mode. Though the Note4 camera is already superb and very very enough for daily use. If you don't need that "Pro" mode in s6, then the camera in both phones are almost same to you.
I will suggest to wait 1st March and see what will happen but don't expect it on sales earlier than 22th March according from leaked information.

no wait for Note 6
If you can wait then wait. For now I am using a Note 4, just upgraded from S3. It's a great device. It's still worth buying a note 4, but waiting and getting to know what does S6 or S6 Edge (if available) has to offer will be a better idea.
I didn't know S6 will be coming this soon, or else I would have waited, but since I got the note 4 I am still happy because it is better than all the other samsung devices for now.
Every new flagship device is great until the next flagship device releases with better specs than our device.
Just sold my Note 4
Wait for S6. So you can test all you want and compare side by side with Note 4.
yess better wait
however S series are so much more focused on
If you want a big screen note 4 if you want a small screen perhaps S6.
That said if sammy really did away with ext sd card support thats going to be a sore spot with many i would think...something to consider.
Id wait and see what happens...unless of course u want the bigger screen.

Personally I'll be waiting for the Note 5. Lack of SD Card is a dealbreaker for me.
Yeah now that we know the S6 is an iPhone twin..no sd card and non removable battery going to be alot of people who pass on it i would think.
Sammy is going backwards it seems.

Will Verizon Note 5 ever get Nougat update?

Just wondering as I see Android O is on the horizon already.

I say we have a bet and see who gets closest wins. No money, only a gentleman/woman's bet and the winner gets the satisfaction that they were correct.
I will say this Friday, 3.31.2017 it will start to roll out to us.
Yes, the Note 5 is definitely getting the Android 7 update. It has already started rolling out in some parts of the world. See:
https://www.sammobile.com/2017/03/23/galaxy-note-5-nougat-update-is-now-out-in-these-countries/
Back in Mid-February, the Note 5 with android 7 received WiFi Certification for ATT, Sprint, and Verizon. See:
https://www.sammobile.com/2017/02/1...-receives-wi-fi-certification-running-nougat/
On the other hand, the update started rolling out on the S6 which is essentially the same internals as the Note 5 about three weeks ago and still has not hit the US. But its definitely coming. My prediction: About 4 more weeks. But I think we will have a pretty good idea when the update for the S6 hits. Its initial release was about two weeks prior to the initial Note 5 release. So when we see an update for the S6, the Note 5 should be about two weeks from then.
EDIT: More evidence. This is for the SM-920C while ours is the SM-920V but it does show that the update is rolling out: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N920C/
I think it will be in the middle or end of April ( 04.10.2017)
I speculate June of 2017.. Lol, that's if they ever stop messing with it..
And yes, I also have been looking and hitting update since seeing the WiFi certification.. But who knows with them.. And then, hopefully, they won't mess with it, or strip out key features, since they do enjoy doing that also..
Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
My bet is on June as well, based on the global release of Nougat for the S7, vs the Verizon Release.
I'm eager to see what Nougat will bring to the note 5. Unless the note 8 impresses me later this summer, I'll be sticking with the note 5.

I don't think the S8 is impressive unfortunately.. It's only got a 3,000mah battery and if you want 3,500mah you have the S8 Plus.. it's only got 4GB ram which I don't think is enough especially for future updates and apps.. I definitely don't like the fingerprint scanner being on the back!! I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking with my S7 and Note 5..

Nope, never coming back! Samsung won't want anything to do with the "7"!! It'll probably jinx the 8 if they decided to call it 7 again. Lol
I for one am NOT eager to put another update on this phone. I saw this with my Note 2, my Thunderbolt and my Droid X. Which each OS update, came major slow downs to the overall system. Planned obsolescence that people are eager to do to themselves. No freaking thank you. The new update won't do anything positive for me, we're not in the 2.2 days of Android anymore. They can keep their crappy downgrades that make the phone sluggish and bogged down.

You mean they send crappy firmware "downgrades" out right about when they put a new phone out because they purposely cause your phone to get all sluggish and slow thereby trying to make you think it's a good idea to buy their new phone? That's why I don't bother with their updates and the other thing is if it ain't broke..... You get it lol..
I love the Nougat update on my S7 Edge. I keep powering on my Note5 in hope of having a software update. My battery life went from about 1.5 hrs of screentime on my S7 to 4. I bet I could get more then that if I wasn't outside so much.

The S7 / Edge wasn't that great of a phone (at least, it was no better than a Note 5)..... I don't get what people love about it. The screen was too small for what I wanted, and the curvature of the Edge just felt awkward to hold. The only benefit was a MicroSD slot for additional storage. When I had to turn in my Note 7 I was almost offended by the offers to go with an S7 (which has the same hardware as the Note 5 so it's really dated for such a major f up) instead of future credit towards a new flagship. Now the Note 5 gets security updates that screw with both the proximity sensor and screen rotation, and it feels like no one cares that is broken a couple times a week until you reboot. I hope the Nougat update fixes it, but by that time I might have an S8 so it will be a moot point except for resale opportunity.

I couldn't agree more about the 7. I never understood that desire for them to do that..
.I haven't faced the rotation issue on my unit, but like you, I cried when I had to turn in my 7..it was an awesome phone . I really am hoping the update brings some of that feel back with the 5.. I'm really must waiting up in arms for the update.. Because it's needed on this device..
