[Q] Do you have Titanium? Please help me restore Calendar & Calendar Storage. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

During attempts to get Google Calendar 5.0 working for all of us on KitKat, I inadvertently deleted "Calendar Storage", aka calendarproviderbin.apk
Could any geniuses out there help me restore this file please? Perhaps you could make a backup of just your app (not data) for:
Calendar
Calendar Storage
...using Titanium Backup and help me access them, so I will be able to restore these. I'd need both so the version numbers are compatible with each other.
You can email me at [email protected] (remove TEETH to contact me!)
As I owned these files already, and am asking for an email rather than anything to be posted here, I am sure this does not breach any sort of rule here.
Thank you in advance!

Flash the system.img from 4.4.4 in fastboot
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app

Thanks but I wanted to avoid that for a number of unique reasons.
If anyone would be kind enough to quickly go the Titanium route that would be lovely.

Download the factory images then extract the apks you need. Why don't you want to flash system.img?

Flashing the system image only won't wipe you or even lose your apps. It's by far the simplest fix.

Thanks. Can it be done via ROM manager recovery mode?

Long story but thank you all.

Calendar 5 is working for me. Did I miss something here? I'm on stock 4.4.4.

No, I was trying to get it working in the past, before anyone did. You are living in the present, which is good!

Just plug it in and transfer files bro. When you plug it in choose to mount as disk drive when your phone prompts you too. You can then transfer all your pics and notes etc like that. Then to be double sure, use super backup for your contacts, then transfer that file to your computer. But also be aware, rooting will not erase sdcard, UNLOCKING the bootloader will usually reset you. Hope this helps.. root it and boot it

Backup your contacts to Gmail. Copy and paste pics and videos to your computer as mentioned above. If you want, you can backup SMS using apps like SMS Backup+. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to backup app data without root, which of course doesn't help in your case.

I use "My Backup Pro" to backup my apps etc...(no root necessary). It will backup the apps but without the app settings info. So, if you restore the apps, you have to input your info again. It will backup everything.. sms, contacts etc... I use this app when I need to do a fresh restore. Make sure to copy the backup folder into your pc or Dropbox before restoring "fresh" your phone.
Hope this helps.

So it doesn't save app data, like game saves (unless rooted), right?
It looks like it does save MMS, which might be useful for me. SMS Backup+ doesn't do that (will backup your MMS pics to Gmail, but not restore them back to your phone).
No, won't backup saved data. If rooted, I would have used titanium backup. Would save apps+data.

The default on Android is to backup all contact info to Gmail. You can verify by simply logging into Gmail on a PC and see if all your contacts are there. If not go into Contacts settings on the phone and merge contacts.
BTW, you realize this is the forum section for the HTC One X/XL, not the HTC One? They are completely different phones. Your post history is all over the place, so I can't even tell what device you own.
Also, you are responding to a thread over a year old.

[Completed] Helium backup app will be the end of me (and plenty others from the sounds of it)

Hello all on xda forums. I am new here and need some help restoring my phone. I was rooted on 4.2 Kitkat and decided to upgrade to 5.0 lolipop on my Galaxy S4 Active (GT-I9295). I made the mistake of using helium to backup my apps and now can not restore my apps. When I look in the app folders on my PC there are no files in the folders which makes it impossible to use the server client. I backed up the full app on helium so I would assume that there would be some files there. I've heard some people say that you have to re-install all of your apps and then restore the data. I have really slow internet and would like to avoid this method if possible. Let me know if you need more information. (Cant upload images since I'm new here sorry about that)

Something just happened and I can see my app files........I'm never using helium again. Apparently you need to download an app in order for all the data to show up? (If you cant tell, I have no clue what is going on)

I GOT IT! So apparently you need to download an app that you used to have and back up the fresh download in order for your old app data to show up. I had my old carbon folder stored on my SD card (Make sure you also back it up to your PC) when I downloaded the app onto my phone. So glad it works!

Google backup fails on Nexus 5

Hi guys.
Sorry in advance in case of double thread, I looked around but didn't find anything similar.
Recently my Nexus 5 sends me this daily alert: "backup failed. It's been 3 days since last backup". If I click on this notice, it sends me to the backup settings page, and starts a new backup attempt that freezes at the very first step.
Every setting seems correct to me, and I'm at my wit's end.
I am waiting for a new device, so it would be great updating my data backup, so I could restore everything in my new phone simply by logging with my Google account.
I can send screenshots, but they're in Italian.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you all.
take Titanium backup always works. 1st try Syncing the account like app data and stuff then manually backup!
Thanx for your suggestion. I should root the device in order to use Titanium, right?
Anyway, I woud like to undertsand what's wrong in Google backup anyway, if anyone else can help.

Recovery Software for root content - /data/data after factory reset?

Hey guys, I've got a problem. I want to restore my com.whatsapp dir in /data/data/, is that possible somehow? Someone had a similar problem back in 2015 and it is said that he could not restore any, but I have software which backed up all videos and photos, but it didn't recover the files I wanted (because you only could choose things like: doc's, pics, movies etc).
Do you guys have an idea, please?
Or do you guys know how to verify whatsapp? I've been using my old number for 5 years now, 2-3 years ago I got a new sim card. Since then, I've always made a backup with titanium or took the backup from whatsapp itself and if you enter ur number and whatsapp recognized a backup, it didn't have to verify anymore. But it's been changed now somehow, they want to verify one's number and then it'll first try backing up (but I do not have that sim anymore). And unfortunately, titanium backup made a corrupt file exactly with the whatsapp file <_<
Thanks in Advance!
WhatsApp doesn't store your media (received images, videos, chat messages, etc.) in the com.whatsapp folder in /data/data, but it stores it in your internal sdcard itself in a folder named WhatsApp. Take that folder with you and put it in the new phone/tablet where you want to continue your WhatsApp usage.
Verification is straight-forward. All you have to do is do a fresh install of WhatsApp on this new phone/tab of yours and start it. If you had placed this backed-up WhatsApp folder on the internal sdcard of the new device, WhatsApp will ask you and automatically import this media on your new device.
Hope that helps.
Hello, thank you for your help.
As I said, I don't want the media, I want the data of whatsapp. I backed up all the media anyway and the recover programs only recovered the media, but I want to recover the whatsapp data.
"WhatsApp will ask you and automatically import this media on your new device."
That is how it used to be, I think they changed their system. You now first have to verify your number and afterwards, you're importing ur whatsapp backup folder. after verifying to another number (not the one I wanted) my old data has been backuped.

In that case, I don't think its going to be easy to retrieve the old chat contents easily unless you have WhatsApp running on your older device. If you have it running on the older device by any chance, you can refer to this manual and create a Chat Backup to your Google Drive, so that later you can restore it from Google Drive on your new phone/tablet. I suppose this is the only way to create WhatsApp chat backups going forward.
Well, I flashed another rom, so I don't got any possibility to return to that version. That's why I ask for an recovery software which also can recover root files. I didn't think it would be so hard to find, because there are some which recovery plenty of other files, I just needed one which includes /data/data folder AND any files, no matter which ending they have (like *.*, where * is a wildcard for any matches), so I hoped someone of you would know any software?

What software did you originally use to take the backup? If it was Titanuium Backup, then what went wrong while restoration?
In case you have the actual file system backup of /data/data/com.whatsapp, you can directly try pasting that folder in the new setup using Root Explorer (or similar app) and see whether it works. But of course, you'll need to be rooted on your new setup.

[ROOT NEEDED]
Maybe GT recovery is the app you are looking for. Basically this app recovers your lost data even after a hard reset by exploiting some resources in the root directory. By this app you can recover the whole folder of your WhatsApp. Just type in the full directory path in the app.
May this help you.
Unfortunately, the exactly the whatsapp backup is a corrupted .rar file, only has 0.0 kb data... @tiger1487 I got root on my phone, but the problem with GT recovery is, that you need the paid version for using it. But tbh, I'm not willing to pay 15e to try if it eventually could recover my needed data, so I'd ask you, if you know another software which is similar to this one? I can't search for one unfortunately, because if you google for it, you just get some to backup a factory image via cwm or twrp or something :x

I am a new member so i cant send you the link of the all free GT recovery but i can tell you that just type 'GT recovery cracked' in the google search engine. You will get it for free[Tip: If you type 'cracked' in front of any app name on google search, you will get it for free, just look for some trusted website like 'onhax' or 'okhax' or 'crackedapkfull']

And I forgot to tell that GT recovery is now more updated. Now there is no need to type in the exact path. There is a direct option for Recover WhatsApp. Likewise there are other options too for messenger, call logs, etc if you need it?

Oh, you were talking of the app, thought of the windows software. The app itself is free, isn't it? I tried the app, it stucks at 0% scanning and I don't think it'll work. Tried different apps, it seems they're only looking for sdcard/whatsapp/database instead of data/data/com.whatsapp so it would be awesome if I could set a path
Thank you very much for your help.

Yes its free...windows version is paid but my app doesn't stuck. Mine one is working perfectly. See that you try some other older versions of the app too. Maybe you downloaded the version that stucks at 0% or something like that.

Sorry for answering late :x
Okay, it seems that my root was broken somehow, but now as it works, the program tells me I am not rooted (now I am for sure!) and wants me to download Kingo root or something. But anyway, I had GBWhatsapp installed on my phone, so I think the app won't help me because it would search for com.whatsapp instead of com.gbwhatsapp (could that be possible?)
I found the app Undeleter, this has some more path search options but unfortunately not one where I can specify my desired path. So, I hope you got one last idea?

Sms messages shredder app?

Hi guys
Is there any app to securely wipe and shred sms messages from android smartphones?
I've tried andro shredder and ishredder, but without any success, after using them, I can easily recover sms by using Dr.Fone Data Recovery or undeleter.
Regards
I guess it would really depend on how much you want "shredded". If you're using a normal sms/mms messaging app - delete all the messages & make sure you don't have them "archived" or backed up (I.e. with an app such as SMS Backup +) anywhere. Also make sure you've never saved them to your SIM card (most likely NO since that hasn't been a normal practice for over 10 years now).
But... You'll never really destroy all the messages since your cell provider has a record of them all.

If your that worried about your msg you should not be using normal sms. lf someone has physical access to your phone they can get anything one way or another. So that other people can't read them encrypt the files then "delete" them so even if they recover they can't read them.
What about using a "secure" msg app? Signal, Telegram etc One you may like is Wire & you don't have to give a phone number, you can even delete the message you have sent from the other persons phone using this app even if you have not set self destruct for that msg
Thank you for your answers. @IronRoo It's sure that using default android messaging app isn't recommended. Personally, I'm using signal. I'm asking inorder to help someone else.
I was thinking to encrypts the whole phone and then flash it with stock rom, sure the files will be recoverable, but encrypted, the problem is that this option is only available in Andorid M & N, and the concerned tablet is running Kitkat!!
So the only trick is as you said, to encrypt the sms/mms db located at :" /data/data/com.android.providers/telephony/databases/mmssms.db", and then delet it. do you know any encryption app with root access?
Regards

if you encrypt and then flash another ROM you loose that encryption. You can only encrypt after you have flashed those ROM, it's not like Truecrypt or similar.
Sorry I don't know of file encryption apps with root, I've never used file encryption.
