[Completed] Helium backup app will be the end of me (and plenty others from the sounds of it) - XDA Assist

Hello all on xda forums. I am new here and need some help restoring my phone. I was rooted on 4.2 Kitkat and decided to upgrade to 5.0 lolipop on my Galaxy S4 Active (GT-I9295). I made the mistake of using helium to backup my apps and now can not restore my apps. When I look in the app folders on my PC there are no files in the folders which makes it impossible to use the server client. I backed up the full app on helium so I would assume that there would be some files there. I've heard some people say that you have to re-install all of your apps and then restore the data. I have really slow internet and would like to avoid this method if possible. Let me know if you need more information. (Cant upload images since I'm new here sorry about that)

Something just happened and I can see my app files........I'm never using helium again. Apparently you need to download an app in order for all the data to show up? (If you cant tell, I have no clue what is going on)

I GOT IT! So apparently you need to download an app that you used to have and back up the fresh download in order for your old app data to show up. I had my old carbon folder stored on my SD card (Make sure you also back it up to your PC) when I downloaded the app onto my phone. So glad it works!

How to move app data from one phone to another

Hello guys. I have a question and maybe someone can help me out with it. I just upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy s3 to an s4 and my question is how can I move all my games and app data from the s3 to the s4? I am running a stock ROM on both my phones, so I am not rooted. Is there anyway I can move the data? I have great progress on some games that I don't want to lose.

Hello cevacu2005,
If you can root your phone you know with Titanium Backup you can easily do an app+data backup to the sdcard and then you can move the card phone-to-phone or maybe phone-PC-phone.
But I think there is an easiest way to do it, I've not tried it, but I've seen in "accounts&sync" you can sync your app data to your Google account and then restore it on the other phone just syncing the account again. Let me know if it worked
tharkun2
The google account method does work. For the method suggested by the OP, unfortunately If you backup and try to use the backup on another device it wont parse (according to the error). However I've never tried doing this with one of those backup apps like titanium backup.

titanium backup

hi
i use a samsung galaxy s3 device.
id like to make a complete backup. what means, if i for example reset my phone completely, i want to be able to restore it completely!
pictures, apps and app data, desktop shortcuts...
i saw that you can backup all your apps and app data, inkl google apps and samsung apps (calendar and stuff like that) or/and you can create a update.zip.
where is the difference between those two options besides the way you have to restore them?
what kinda backup do i have to do to gain what i want to?
thx
Instead u can store the apks in a pc and backup only the app data using titanium

If you are rooted or are willing to root you could use Rom Manager to do full back-ups (as far as I know the S3 is supported)

[Q] Best way to migrate from stock N4 to N5 ?

Feel free to assume that the N4 is already running on 4.4 as I only ordered 3hours ago and wont be shipped in less than 2 wekks probably.
What can I save ? Applications settings? Like progresses in games and stuff.

You can save all user apps and data with Titanium Backup or Helium and also messages and all other personal files except off course all N4 system files.
Just use Helium, you don't need root, but you have to enable "usb debugging" in developer mode in your phone and install adb driver (http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html) while connecting the phone to your pc, then install the Helium app on your PC: http://www.clockworkmod.com/carbon
Or you can install root to use Titanium Backup. SuperBackup is a good choice if you have root as well, which has an easier interface.
Helium all the way. TiBu is a pain-in-the-ass, but it is tried-and-true. Helium gets everything in one swoop, and restoration is so much simpler with Helium than it is TiBu.

Wasn't active in the scene for a while, ofc I knew about titanium..
but Helium is new to me! Thanks for pointing it out. Gonna try it !
How to backup stuff like e.g. Alarm Clocks ?
Is there any specific folder i could adb pull&push ?
I'm actually having issues restoring with the N5 from my Galaxy S4. It just will not see the backup files no matter how I try to do it, google drive, internal storage or pc download. Anyone else running into this? Maybe it's a 4.4 issue?

How does everyone backup their S6's?

I'm just curious what backup solution everyone uses for phone backups.
Helium.
Used TB for many years but Helium is a decent alternative that doesn't compromise warranty.
Helium doesn't obviously do as much as TB but it suffices.
Still waiting for Google to get on par with Apple's approach to backups.
-- from my S6
I used to use twrp all the time , would love to be able to install and flash twrp only to make my backups but I don't want to root just yet till I find out when Samsung pay is coming.
in in Canada on rogers , I don't think its possible to install / run twrp without being rooted and not break knox.
Titanium backup for apps. TWRP for Roms. Laptop for photos and mass music.
I have just been using the Google backup built in to Android. It's not great, but not terrible either. It will restore most of your phone settings and will install all of the apps you previously had installed (or you can pick and choose which to install), but you still have to go through most apps and set them up again.
Anyone tried Samsung's backup built in to the phone?

Settings > Backup and reset
You should see different backup settings. One with Samsung account and another with Google like you find in stock Android.
My 2 Backup-solutions that are working flawlessly since day 1 on every device.
Gcloud Backup - for calllogs and sms
Folder Sync pro - for my photo albums, music, whatsapp and everything else. I sync all that with gdrive or onedrive since I've got there 130gb of storage thanks to s6 ^_^

Recovery Software for root content - /data/data after factory reset?

Hey guys, I've got a problem. I want to restore my com.whatsapp dir in /data/data/, is that possible somehow? Someone had a similar problem back in 2015 and it is said that he could not restore any, but I have software which backed up all videos and photos, but it didn't recover the files I wanted (because you only could choose things like: doc's, pics, movies etc).
Do you guys have an idea, please?
Or do you guys know how to verify whatsapp? I've been using my old number for 5 years now, 2-3 years ago I got a new sim card. Since then, I've always made a backup with titanium or took the backup from whatsapp itself and if you enter ur number and whatsapp recognized a backup, it didn't have to verify anymore. But it's been changed now somehow, they want to verify one's number and then it'll first try backing up (but I do not have that sim anymore). And unfortunately, titanium backup made a corrupt file exactly with the whatsapp file <_<
Thanks in Advance!
WhatsApp doesn't store your media (received images, videos, chat messages, etc.) in the com.whatsapp folder in /data/data, but it stores it in your internal sdcard itself in a folder named WhatsApp. Take that folder with you and put it in the new phone/tablet where you want to continue your WhatsApp usage.
Verification is straight-forward. All you have to do is do a fresh install of WhatsApp on this new phone/tab of yours and start it. If you had placed this backed-up WhatsApp folder on the internal sdcard of the new device, WhatsApp will ask you and automatically import this media on your new device.
Hope that helps.
Hello, thank you for your help.
As I said, I don't want the media, I want the data of whatsapp. I backed up all the media anyway and the recover programs only recovered the media, but I want to recover the whatsapp data.
"WhatsApp will ask you and automatically import this media on your new device."
That is how it used to be, I think they changed their system. You now first have to verify your number and afterwards, you're importing ur whatsapp backup folder. after verifying to another number (not the one I wanted) my old data has been backuped.

In that case, I don't think its going to be easy to retrieve the old chat contents easily unless you have WhatsApp running on your older device. If you have it running on the older device by any chance, you can refer to this manual and create a Chat Backup to your Google Drive, so that later you can restore it from Google Drive on your new phone/tablet. I suppose this is the only way to create WhatsApp chat backups going forward.
Well, I flashed another rom, so I don't got any possibility to return to that version. That's why I ask for an recovery software which also can recover root files. I didn't think it would be so hard to find, because there are some which recovery plenty of other files, I just needed one which includes /data/data folder AND any files, no matter which ending they have (like *.*, where * is a wildcard for any matches), so I hoped someone of you would know any software?

What software did you originally use to take the backup? If it was Titanuium Backup, then what went wrong while restoration?
In case you have the actual file system backup of /data/data/com.whatsapp, you can directly try pasting that folder in the new setup using Root Explorer (or similar app) and see whether it works. But of course, you'll need to be rooted on your new setup.

[ROOT NEEDED]
Maybe GT recovery is the app you are looking for. Basically this app recovers your lost data even after a hard reset by exploiting some resources in the root directory. By this app you can recover the whole folder of your WhatsApp. Just type in the full directory path in the app.
May this help you.
Unfortunately, the exactly the whatsapp backup is a corrupted .rar file, only has 0.0 kb data... @tiger1487 I got root on my phone, but the problem with GT recovery is, that you need the paid version for using it. But tbh, I'm not willing to pay 15e to try if it eventually could recover my needed data, so I'd ask you, if you know another software which is similar to this one? I can't search for one unfortunately, because if you google for it, you just get some to backup a factory image via cwm or twrp or something :x

I am a new member so i cant send you the link of the all free GT recovery but i can tell you that just type 'GT recovery cracked' in the google search engine. You will get it for free[Tip: If you type 'cracked' in front of any app name on google search, you will get it for free, just look for some trusted website like 'onhax' or 'okhax' or 'crackedapkfull']

And I forgot to tell that GT recovery is now more updated. Now there is no need to type in the exact path. There is a direct option for Recover WhatsApp. Likewise there are other options too for messenger, call logs, etc if you need it?

Oh, you were talking of the app, thought of the windows software. The app itself is free, isn't it? I tried the app, it stucks at 0% scanning and I don't think it'll work. Tried different apps, it seems they're only looking for sdcard/whatsapp/database instead of data/data/com.whatsapp so it would be awesome if I could set a path
Thank you very much for your help.

Yes its free...windows version is paid but my app doesn't stuck. Mine one is working perfectly. See that you try some other older versions of the app too. Maybe you downloaded the version that stucks at 0% or something like that.

Sorry for answering late :x
Okay, it seems that my root was broken somehow, but now as it works, the program tells me I am not rooted (now I am for sure!) and wants me to download Kingo root or something. But anyway, I had GBWhatsapp installed on my phone, so I think the app won't help me because it would search for com.whatsapp instead of com.gbwhatsapp (could that be possible?)
I found the app Undeleter, this has some more path search options but unfortunately not one where I can specify my desired path. So, I hope you got one last idea?
