Hi guys.
Sorry in advance in case of double thread, I looked around but didn't find anything similar.
Recently my Nexus 5 sends me this daily alert: "backup failed. It's been 3 days since last backup". If I click on this notice, it sends me to the backup settings page, and starts a new backup attempt that freezes at the very first step.
Every setting seems correct to me, and I'm at my wit's end.
I am waiting for a new device, so it would be great updating my data backup, so I could restore everything in my new phone simply by logging with my Google account.
I can send screenshots, but they're in Italian.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you all.
take Titanium backup always works. 1st try Syncing the account like app data and stuff then manually backup!
Thanx for your suggestion. I should root the device in order to use Titanium, right?
Anyway, I woud like to undertsand what's wrong in Google backup anyway, if anyone else can help.

Hi all
I'm new here and the thread title may be misleading but I wasn't sure how to word it correctly so apologies in advance.
I have been given a Galaxy S by a friend who has replaced it with an iphone.
I would like to download stuff using Android Market. I keep getting asked for a Google sign in for the previous owners account.
I thought ok I will go to settings and remove the account after setting up my own.
When I go to remove the account it says that the account is required by some applications and that I need to reset to factory defaults.
I realise doing this will result in losing all data and I will need to reload everything. Can I do a backup somehow and copy my contacts etc back to the phone?
Is this reset going to allow me to set the phone up the way I want it and allow me to use Android market.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Haha.. thanks for the suggestions. I'm so new here I have yet to find out how to do the thanks thing but I guess I will figure that out shortly.
I will have to do some searching because all the terminology is new to me as well.
Where I come from, New Zealand, if something is rooted we usually mean it is broken or not useable lol.
Ok, so this is going to be a new learning experience for me and I think I will enjoy this Board.
I forgot to add, this phone has been unlocked.
Ok so I have a weird problem that I could not find a solution googling for a few hours. I got a nexus 5 back in February. According to "My Devices" on the google play store site it was registered on Feb 25th and shows last used on Feb 27th. I have noticed that I couldn't remotely install apps from the site but haven't tried to trouble shoot it until now. Also the android device manager does not work. I am rooted but using the stock ROM. I've been using the phone itself with no problems. I get app updates, use the google+ picture auto backup and other services on the phone. The only problem seems to be that I am not linked to the google play website with the nexus 5. Anyone seen or heard anything like this?
I tried this below but it didn't work:
Open Google Settings from your device's apps menu.
Touch Android Device Manager.
Uncheck Allow remote factory reset.
Go to your device's main Settings menu, then touch Apps > All < Google Play services.
Touch Clear Data. Note that this action doesn't remove personal data.
Go back to Google Settings and select Allow remote factory reset.
Restart your device.
you might have to unselect remote factory reset to clear data in Google play services. After clear data the go back in select it again, reboot you should be good to go.

Every time it unlinked for me I just installed an App from the Play Store on my Nexus 5, and it would link again and I could install remotely through the Desktop website.
Hmmm I wish that were the case. I just installed an app yesterday after the remote link didn't work and I have tried again since. I've also removed my google account and added it back. Looks like a factory reset is in my future. Some things I've done that may have affected it:
Restore apps (not system) from titanium backup
Installed Xposed
Use of OpenVPN

Titanium Backup and Xposed should not affect it. OpenVPN, I'm not sure about, but I HIGHLY doubt it would be the cause. Try removing your Google account from Settings and setting it up again.

Titanium Backup WILL affect it - when you first loaded it on it would have asked you if you wanted to restore the device ID.
Open Titanium, press menu, chose the Manage Android ID, and restore your original ID. Then hit Market Update Helper, that will rebuild the market links.
Edit: Actually, maybe you don't want to restore - where did the original backup come from? Was it a Nexus 5? Maybe you already did restore the original, and it was from a different device??

Yeah I moved non system apps from a CM10 GS3. I thought about the Android ID as well. I generated a new one yesterday just to see if it fixed my problem. No luck. I am going to factory reset tonight. I'll post the results soon after I get everything up and running and confirm. Thanks for the suggestions.

Try re-building the market links through Tibu first.. might work?
Factory reset worked. I wish I knew what happened. I did a combination restore of my apps via the nexus 5 toolkit and titanium backup. The toolkit didn't get them all. I have not tried Xposed again. I may wait a bit and see if that was the cause.

Highly doubt Xposed would cause since I've been using it for a long time. As previously said, it was probably Titanium Backup messing with your ID.
Hi!
I did search and was hoping to find a 'Titanium Backup' section within XDA all I saw where threads in various sections. So if there is one and I should be posting there just let me know!
I will explain my situation;
I'm have a Nexus 5 that is unlocked and rooted. Within Google's update last night I had to reboot my phone and all of a sudden com.android.ui force closes and nothing worked. I wasn't able to tap on any app, app draw, dock .. nothing.
Here's where my ignorance comes to play. Could I have restored my phone from a backup which was only 3 days old without having to wipe it?
Yeah, I wiped the phone, re-rooted and let all the Google apps update and I'm bringing down my Titanium backup from the cloud to the device to restore my apps from it.
So could I have done this in a better way? If there is the next time I'll do it!
And is there some definitive guide on Titanium Backup? I followed a YouTube tut and it appeared to be have captured what I needed but I feel that there's more to it! I just feel I should be using that app to backup more than just my apps + data.
Hope you can help!
Thanks!
Dave

Hi Dave,
Unfortunately I would suggest to do first a wipe cache/dalvik cache before trying a factory reset.
Restoring apps system with Titanium is not really recommended (become worst than before). I tried and had many force close on system ui during the test.

P.

I'm bit past that point. I wasn't restoring system app .. just user apps + data. That's one thing that I caught on to when I was learning about backup up was things NOT to backup and system apps where one!
Somebody in the G+ Xposed community told me to wipe cache was well. And my reply was the same that if the UI has force closed and nothing is responsive then how can I do this?
You'll have to pardon my ignorance as this is the first time I've encountered a problem like this. I've been pretty blessed so far! =)

does the Nexus 5 comes which a standard recovery where you can do it ... otherwise install a custom recovery.
but if you could access to titanium application with the constant popup, it has a option to clean cache.
good luck

The other source I'd tapped told me since I have a custom recovery that I able to wipe cache and dalvik cache as well. This person has had the same issue.
So ... I learned something new today! =)
Hope you will get a full functional phone after that

Yep, I said that third post down! =)
Only thing was I was expecting to be able to restore from the cloud. Instead I had to copy everything from the cloud back down to the phone.
Phone works though.
But in my case I was told to get into recovery which I had done but after that had no idea what to do. Wiping and restoring was a bit premature.
Hey guys, I've got a problem. I want to restore my com.whatsapp dir in /data/data/, is that possible somehow? Someone had a similar problem back in 2015 and it is said that he could not restore any, but I have software which backed up all videos and photos, but it didn't recover the files I wanted (because you only could choose things like: doc's, pics, movies etc).
Do you guys have an idea, please?
Or do you guys know how to verify whatsapp? I've been using my old number for 5 years now, 2-3 years ago I got a new sim card. Since then, I've always made a backup with titanium or took the backup from whatsapp itself and if you enter ur number and whatsapp recognized a backup, it didn't have to verify anymore. But it's been changed now somehow, they want to verify one's number and then it'll first try backing up (but I do not have that sim anymore). And unfortunately, titanium backup made a corrupt file exactly with the whatsapp file <_<
Thanks in Advance!
WhatsApp doesn't store your media (received images, videos, chat messages, etc.) in the com.whatsapp folder in /data/data, but it stores it in your internal sdcard itself in a folder named WhatsApp. Take that folder with you and put it in the new phone/tablet where you want to continue your WhatsApp usage.
Verification is straight-forward. All you have to do is do a fresh install of WhatsApp on this new phone/tab of yours and start it. If you had placed this backed-up WhatsApp folder on the internal sdcard of the new device, WhatsApp will ask you and automatically import this media on your new device.
Hope that helps.
Hello, thank you for your help.
As I said, I don't want the media, I want the data of whatsapp. I backed up all the media anyway and the recover programs only recovered the media, but I want to recover the whatsapp data.
"WhatsApp will ask you and automatically import this media on your new device."
That is how it used to be, I think they changed their system. You now first have to verify your number and afterwards, you're importing ur whatsapp backup folder. after verifying to another number (not the one I wanted) my old data has been backuped.

In that case, I don't think its going to be easy to retrieve the old chat contents easily unless you have WhatsApp running on your older device. If you have it running on the older device by any chance, you can refer to this manual and create a Chat Backup to your Google Drive, so that later you can restore it from Google Drive on your new phone/tablet. I suppose this is the only way to create WhatsApp chat backups going forward.
Well, I flashed another rom, so I don't got any possibility to return to that version. That's why I ask for an recovery software which also can recover root files. I didn't think it would be so hard to find, because there are some which recovery plenty of other files, I just needed one which includes /data/data folder AND any files, no matter which ending they have (like *.*, where * is a wildcard for any matches), so I hoped someone of you would know any software?

What software did you originally use to take the backup? If it was Titanuium Backup, then what went wrong while restoration?
In case you have the actual file system backup of /data/data/com.whatsapp, you can directly try pasting that folder in the new setup using Root Explorer (or similar app) and see whether it works. But of course, you'll need to be rooted on your new setup.

[ROOT NEEDED]
Maybe GT recovery is the app you are looking for. Basically this app recovers your lost data even after a hard reset by exploiting some resources in the root directory. By this app you can recover the whole folder of your WhatsApp. Just type in the full directory path in the app.
May this help you.
Unfortunately, the exactly the whatsapp backup is a corrupted .rar file, only has 0.0 kb data... @tiger1487 I got root on my phone, but the problem with GT recovery is, that you need the paid version for using it. But tbh, I'm not willing to pay 15e to try if it eventually could recover my needed data, so I'd ask you, if you know another software which is similar to this one? I can't search for one unfortunately, because if you google for it, you just get some to backup a factory image via cwm or twrp or something :x

I am a new member so i cant send you the link of the all free GT recovery but i can tell you that just type 'GT recovery cracked' in the google search engine. You will get it for free[Tip: If you type 'cracked' in front of any app name on google search, you will get it for free, just look for some trusted website like 'onhax' or 'okhax' or 'crackedapkfull']

And I forgot to tell that GT recovery is now more updated. Now there is no need to type in the exact path. There is a direct option for Recover WhatsApp. Likewise there are other options too for messenger, call logs, etc if you need it?

Oh, you were talking of the app, thought of the windows software. The app itself is free, isn't it? I tried the app, it stucks at 0% scanning and I don't think it'll work. Tried different apps, it seems they're only looking for sdcard/whatsapp/database instead of data/data/com.whatsapp so it would be awesome if I could set a path
Thank you very much for your help.

Yes its free...windows version is paid but my app doesn't stuck. Mine one is working perfectly. See that you try some other older versions of the app too. Maybe you downloaded the version that stucks at 0% or something like that.

Sorry for answering late :x
Okay, it seems that my root was broken somehow, but now as it works, the program tells me I am not rooted (now I am for sure!) and wants me to download Kingo root or something. But anyway, I had GBWhatsapp installed on my phone, so I think the app won't help me because it would search for com.whatsapp instead of com.gbwhatsapp (could that be possible?)
I found the app Undeleter, this has some more path search options but unfortunately not one where I can specify my desired path. So, I hope you got one last idea?

Hi guys,
Getting really frustrated here!!
Have owned a Huawei Mate 20 for awhile now and recently wanted to do a backup & restore.
Made sure I backed up via Google Backup and verified on Google Drive.
Went to restore this morning and it says: NO BACKUPS FOUND. When I go into my Google Drive, I can literally SEE THE BACKUP THERE WITH ALL MY APPS.
Is there anyway to:
Force Google to restore this backup
Download this backup from Google Drive so it doesn't expire
Get this damn thing to work?!
Thanks guys, really appreciate it!
Try running bmgr in ADB commandline, from there you should be able to force restore Drive backups.

I haven't done it in a while so I don't remember exactly, basically you do:
adb shell
bmgr
After this you will get the commands list, one of them is list of the backups available, and other is restore.
Found a guide - thank you.
After a factory reset, and running the bmgr list sets command, it will only show the backup made since the factory reset.
If I check on Google Drive it has both backups:
This device:
Current backup since factory reset
Other backups:
Original backup
Once clicking on this backup it says: "This backup will expire in__ days if the device remains inactive.
Why does it think it's a different device? Could there be a problem with the software versions? Both should be Android 10.
Thanks again shampow.
Android backups always been a mess. The Drive backup I know that can't really be downloaded or extracted and is set to expire.
The only two things I can't think of right now, even if sound silly, is factoryreset and set account again and see what happens when the backup prompt comes.
Else maybe is less hassle to start all over again.

Yes, I've tried a couple of times factory resetting in hopes it would change the outcome.
Originally the was a problem with security which lead to Google locking me. From my account for about a month - their Account Recovery procedure is a God damn joke - and ZERO staff who you can/ask, because "covid".
So I finally got my account back after thinking that was gone forever and now the backup doesn't work. So frustrating!
Now, when resetting my account security is there a chance it could have 'unlinked' my phone and that's saying it's another device?
The only other thing is the version. The backup was from Dec 19 and there looks like there was an update on the first of Jan. Could the version difference chance anything?
