Hello All,
Looking for a little guidance based on my situation. I had a Z2 for about 6 months and have nothing but good things to say about the phone. I dropped the Z2 and suffered screen damage resulting in sending it to SquareTrade for repair. After a month of receiving a broken phone 3 times, I was able to get a check for $500 from SquareTrade which is what they valued the phone at. 1st time I received the phone back, the touch screen sensitivity was horrible. I would have to apply more force for the touch to register and sometimes have to touch 2-3 times for it to work. 2nd and 3rd time the phone did not survive brief submerges, they compromised the water resistance of the phone. Not sure if I was just unlucky with my 1st time using SquareTrade or they are that horrible.
Now I'm faced with the decision of either buying a Z2 and should break even or pay the extra $150 for the Z3. What would you do? I'm in the US, should I wait for Sony's US event 10/9 or buy unlocked? They typically lock the bootloader on T-Mobile which is what I do not want.
Thanks!
The extra $150 would get me an extra gig of RAM, a slightly updated design, a brighter screen and maybe better battery life. I don't know how it was on the Z2, but I can easily see my Z3 survive for 2 days without charging.
Personally, I'd have to spend extra for a case or screen protector for the Z3. The ones I have now cost a total of 30-40 bucks maybe, so basically I'd get the Z3 for about $190, unlocked (not counting the $500 I already spent on the Z2). Unless I missed something, that seems like a pretty good deal to me. I think I'd go for it.
Hope that helped
Both z2 and 3 have 3gb ram.
I had a z2 and was very "on the fence" about the z3.
The upgrade from z1 to z2 for me wasn't that great and I kinda felt it wasn't a true upgrade.
With the z3 I'm really happy and everything that I use has been tweaked to perfection. The differences between the two may be small in writing, but in reality everything is now seamless.
It feels less delicate than z2 and I cannot recommend it enough.
Upgrade from z1 - definitely
Upgrade from z2 - you won't be sorry.

Oh and the scr10 case from z2 fits the z3, just heat up the case corners a little and push them inward when warm, perfect fit.

Hi,
Has anyone seen any actual videos of Xperia Z3 Drop or stress test? For the sake of science, it must know if the z3 is better or the same as z2 as well as how it'll hold up . I've been seeing to many of the fake drop tests on youtube so just wondering if anyone came across anything.
How do you know that they're fake?
I have not seen any drop tests yet, might be a few weeks before we see some.
As I see: Z3 has much stronger bezel than Z2 but the glasses easy to crack when drop!

I have heard similar reports, that's why I was very careful with mine.
Hey!
Is anybody of you guys able to move the magnetic port with your fingernails? Like up and down horizontally.
No. That is not normal, I suggest you take it back to get fixed.

Well, it's just a minimal bit. My mothers z1 does that aswell.
I don't think thats normal, mine is solidly in place.
If it moves, probably your phone is no longer waterproof.
Mine moves a bit too and it's still waterproof.
Possible to hide root to send in for warranty?

Mine moves a little too, still waterproof. The same with my z3 tablet compact.
Hi!!
Today i got my Sony Xperia z5 (e6653). Phone is great but i have one problem. One speaker (on the top) is louder than second speaker. I'm not sure that is ok but i want to ask about it other people who has z5.

No from a major phone retailer in the UK
It's not massively noticable but I want it to be perfect for £500+
Mine sounds slightly more quiet on the bottom than the top, although I think it has much more to do with the top speaker being at a different angle. When I turn it sideways I can't tell a difference from right to left
Thank you for answer. My phone has the same problem with speakers but maybe speakers in Xperia works like that. I sent question to Sony Xperia on Facebook and they said that they Xperia's have louder top speaker too.
Mine does exactly the same! Got mine from Vodafone UK today and the bottom speaker is quite a bit weaker. Where did you get yours from? Maybe a dodgy batch? I've had Sony's before and never had this problem.
I think it's software related as it sounds like something is suppressing it for some reason? I've done a factory reset, cleared cache in audio setting and still the same. It's annoying as it makes me think my ears are playing up.would be interesting what build number people are on? Mine is 32.0.A.4.11, I'm looking for generic UK ftf if anyone has a copy???

Kind of off-topic but since you got yours from Vodafone UK, is it the Bond Edition and if so, what Bond content is included, if any?
My top speaker is a little louder as well.

Haha the box which has spectre 007 written on it and that's all I've discovered so far. The phone is a gun metal grey colour and I though it was meant to be black but I guess that's the normal colour? Oh and one speaker lower in volume that the other but maybe that's some bond trick that makes it different??

Mine is gunmetal too and the color states "Graphite Black". So you did get the Bond Edition, that's nice. Supposed to be able to download Spectre themes, ringtones and wallpapers through the Xperia Lounge app.

Ok after having a play with mine I've noticed that if I stick it really close to my face its obvious one speaker is louder than the other. BUT when I hold it at arms length with elbows bent it sounds like normal stereo, very clever Sony but doesn't help if you're watching or listening to something up close. Try it.

I can't find anything what so ever to do with bond. I think maybe mine isn't and its just the packaging to promote it. I've logged into xperia lounge and all Vodafone apps with no joy! Frustrating! I wanted to be bond!
Thanks for trying, it may not be available yet. I'm sure when it is there will at least be pictures on the web but right now there is nothing anywhere.
Don't feel bad, I want to be Bond too
i think its normal, i have the same issue (if thats what you call it) on my Z3 :/
Just got my phone and my top speaker is MUCH louder than my bottom one. Does anyone know if we can fix this with root? Or if Sony can fix it with a software update?

Mine was the same but after a fiddle it seems to be OK. Give it a couple of days and if you hold it at arms length with your elbows bent it actually sounds normal. Its definitely software related.
Mine was really noticeable on day one but either I've got used to it or its fixed itself it sounds normal and actually better than it did when I first got it. Maybe the system has to adjust or something? Who knows. Hope it helps

Hmm OK thanks, I'll give it a couple days but if it doesn't fix itself I'll have to return it. Someone on the Sony forum said it's a hardware fault so that's got me worried.
Can everyone with the phone state whether they have this issue or not, so we can see whether it's hardware or software related.
Good day everyone!
I can confirm that after a while speakers volume is aligned. Bottom speaker`s volume now is exactly the same as a top speaker`s volume. But when i bought the phone and start testing, bottom speaker`s sound was much weaker than top speaker.
Geez people. Every Xperia Z above Z2 has this "problem". Each speaker is supposed to sound a bit different. I.e. in my Z2 the bottom speaker is more bassy, but the top one is clearer. It's not a problem, these phones are just made that way.
Coming from Z5, XZ seems like a superior downgrade.
Double tap to wake is so annoying that i want to throw this phone against a wall.
Loud speakers are the worst compared to any smartphone. Seriously guys try this, when I was on a call I've put it on speakers and I was like there is no diff between turning on and off the speakers.
You here same amount of sound with or without turning the speakers on while on a call.
Only thing that is improved on this phone compared to z5 is snappy fingerprint sensor.
I am a Sony fan and maybe its time to rethink.
I've damaged my Z5 by takin it to swimming pool.
Now I even regret buying XZ?

So far I've owned a Z, M4 Aqua, Z3, briefly used a Z5 and I seriously have difficulty seeing how the XZ or XZs for that matter could be a downgrade in any aspect. The only thing I can't get over not having is the magnetic charger plug I had on the Z3, I would trade the fingerprint scanner for that in a heartbeat.
What do you mean there's no difference in using voicalls through earspeaker and loudspeaker? The speakers on this thing are way better in loudness, bass and clarity compared to both Z3 and Z5. Apart from the HTC One M8 I used briefly, XZ is the best I've heard so far. That BoomSound on HTC is insanely good, and when you take the phone apart it becomes clear why, those speakers are huge.
What's wrong with the double-tap?
Do you maybe have a defective unit on your hands???

It takes atleast 4-5 attempts to wake the device by double tap. I've searched and found that it happens often when device goes to sleep on its own.
They said its a software bug, but already running 7.1.1 and i'm still waiting for a fix.
And regarding speaker sound I dont know if you have used z5 but I've used it for 1 and a half year. I do feel like there is awfull low sound from speakers.
Being a pioneer in sound quality this is really bad from sony. Some might say its a trade for waterproof, but S7 edge is doin quite fine.
My XZ is just one month old btw. It has been imported in oct 2016. Been quite a long time on shelf, but hope that has nothin to do with anything.

Do you know the double-tap works only on center region of the screen? Once I learned that, it made a lot more sense and I have no issues with that any more. It's like that by design and on purpose, to prevent accidental double-tapping.
Uhm...have you compared the sound from the S7 Edge and the XZ? It's night and day, in favor of the XZ. Dude, there's either something wrong with your unit, or you are talking nonsense.
Actually, there are a couple of videos comparing this on youtube, iPhone 7 included, the XZ beats S7 by a mile in sound.
What do you mean on the shelve? Like in the store display or on the shelve at home in a box? If it was the second one, doesn't matter. If it was a display unit in the store...yes, it matters.
The XZ should be better thatn Z5 in every aspect, no question about it.
Yes, I used Z5 briefly, before it I used the Z3. I was very dissapointed by the overheating and battery life so I went back to Z3 and now XZ. Z5 is a beautiful phone, at first I was very happy to get it after Z3, but in practical terms it became a nightmare for me. Nothing to this day beats the battery life of my Z3. And that magnetic charger was a thing of beauty, unfortunate they ditched it.

I get that, it works differently on the XZ than Z3 and Z5, the double-tap doesn't work on the edges of the screen, try it. It's by design, and once you learn that, it's fine, just tap near the center region. It's like on laptop touchpads, the edges don't react to click gestures, only scroll and such, it's to prevent unwanted taps. Why is this a huge issue...
I was actually happy with this because the Z3 would unlock on its own in my pocket, i don't have that issue with the XZ.
So, have you compared the sound on S7 to XZ yet?

Sorry, I've not compared yet. I'm in my home town now (Village).
I'll compare once i go to my work place.
I agree, I'm really regretting going for the XZ after the Z3.
In my case performance and battery life are the main issues, although the speaker volume also annoys me, but it wasnt better on the Z3 so i cant complain.
I usually travel in hot countries, last week i was in Kuwait and it was 38-40 c ambient, so naturally, the XZ with its thin metal back got very hot very quickly and reached 46c doing basic stuff like phone calls and whatsapp. It got so slow I wanted to break it in half; it hangs, its slow, its not so smooth (all compared to the 3 year old Z3) and this all starts at around 38-39c.
Also battery life is very inconsistent; sometimes I get 4 hrs SoT, sometimes like yesterday (normal day without anything special) I get 2 hrs.
One more thing; out of no where something melted inside the charging port and the charger wont go in properly anymore, the phone is always in a case and nothing goes into the port.
If my Z3 hardware didn't give up I would've kept using it, unfortunately I'm stuck with the XZ until the next Pixel comes out. I'm also working on fixing the hardware parts of the Z3 that are damaged and going back to using it again with the XZ as a second phone for camera and media consumption.

Loudspeakers aren't the best. But not the worst. Some smartphones do worst than this. On call i agree only one defect on 1000 pros. But root solve that.
I have compared z5 from xz... And xz is far away better and stable. Z5 thanks to snapdragon 810 have a confused battery. Sometimes is Great, Sometimes is horrible. Camera is very worst, performances too. Fingerprint too. Only pro is speakers.
