OtterBox Commuter - Galaxy Note 4 Accessories

I just got my Otterbox Commuter in the mail today and I am very impressed. I've used the Defender series on nearly every phone I've purchased, but since the Note 4 is already so large I decided to try a thinner case. Installation was simple, except I had a little trouble getting the rubber inside the headphone jack. It honestly makes the phone easier to hold and use as your fingers/thumbs are constantly overlapping onto the screen. The Commuter series has a hard plastic shell as its outer side, so the phone easily slides in and out of jean pockets. I've attached some images, but please note they were taken from my Galaxy S3 with a broken screen, so they were a little hard to take. I'll update this thread after a week with further thoughts about it's use and protection.

How slick is the grip? I just got my Defender yesterday and it adds a good 1/2" to the width it seems. I had tried the Spigen ones but they are pretty slick and don't seem to offer much protection.

Will get mine tomorrow. Quite curious how much the device will grow in size

I'm waiting for Otterbox to release the Royal Blue slip cover so I can pair it with a black plastic shell. Otterbox makes amazing cases.

So, how has the commuter been holding up?

I have a commuter and I am pleased with it. Have used it on both the Note 2 and 3 and never had any brekage happening.
BUT, don't get me started on their customer service. I have ordered another case and mistakenly got the wrong part (shell instead of a slop cover). I am international customer so I didn't phone them. Stuid me for trying to avoid phone call costs and having to deal with language barrier.
I messaged them 3 times to please please change my order. Price of the item was the same so I didn't think it would be a problem. Noone even replied to me, except with a stupid email that I must provide a photo for the case I am returning. Well duh, I don't have the item yet!!! They have this stupid way to contact them via forms that no matter what you write in them they interpret as you claiming warranty or return. They don't read what you write. I also tried bastic customer service email. Nada, zero, niente, nothing, no reply.
The next thing I know they informed me my items have been shipped and tracking says they are well on the way.

I have been using that case for a few days now and it has a good feel to it. It is not slippery at all. I am still debating on whether to keep using it because I have always used my other phones without a case. The bulk is not that much but it does make a difference compared to no case. Using the phone with the case does make holding it easier and I don't have that anxiety of dropping it as much as I had when using the phone with no case. I would definitely recommend this case. Also, I just got the Samsung universal vehicle navigation mount last night and the phone fits in the mount with the case. However, with the case the phone just barely fits. I am going to try it out today in the car.

I got my Commuter in the mail yesterday. It fits great and seems very protective. I had a Spigen Slim Armor on mine since I got it and the Otterbox is much higher quality.
Sent from my Note 4

Picked up the Defender Series. The case is very protective and willing to bet its probable the best case available to offer protection from drops or scratches.
The only draw back I would saw is the added bulk. This phone now looks like a brick in my hands and definitely people mistake it for a tablet. I guess that's the trade off you get when going for full protection. Other than that, great case hands down!

Body Glove Case Review

I got the body glove case at At&t today because I loved that case so much on my captivate. All in all it is a good case. Here are a few pro cons for those looking for it.
Pros: very low profile adds hardly any bulk to the phone just like the captivate version, I love that it's semi hard yet "sticks" in your hand nice and isn't slippery.
Cons: the large cutout around the camera sucks. They cut way to much out and I can see losing my small child in there if I ever have them both in the same pocket, because of it's low profile, the camera sticks out past the case therefor there is no protection for the camera if it gets dropped on that side, the case fits as snug as it did on my captivate but it has a very weak spot around the volume rocker.
All in all if you are just looking to protect from scratches this is a great case, but for ultimate protection look elsewhere.

I have the same case. I noticed that there's a gap on mine at the bottom of the phone and I can push it in. I may go back and get the speck case to get better protection. I understand that with that case the camera is flush and doesn't protrude.
I loved BG case on Captivate and would've jumped on this one too but that huge cutout on the back is really off-putting to me for some reason.
bigdessert, I concur with your findings. Love the Body Glove for the same reasons as well as the textured back. But I'm paranoid of something happening to the camera lense. My wife is looking at upgrading to the Inspire very soon but she doesn't like the Body Glove. She uses a Speck case on her Aria right now so she will probably stick with that brand for the upgrade. Then I can compare them side-by-side
I have a review up on my website of the speck case for the Inspire.

Good to know on the camera Gunny. I was wonderng if there was a case that would keep the camera from sticking out so far. I hate how it does that as it's very prone to the lens being messed up when you lay it down!
Just wanting to add to this...
I too purchased the Body Glove from ATT on launch day due to lack of alternatives available. I was very disappointed, because as usual it didn't cover the buttons on the side and tops, and the cutout made the side supports a little more lose than I prefer. I also noticed that it added a LOT of bulk to the back of the phone.... so I ended up returning it.
Often times when a new phone come out, I take a chance and order a cheapy case on eBay for $2 and end up throwing away when it arrives due to it being cheap mis-fitting junk.
However, I came across the cases listed below from seller AccStation on eBay, and decided to take a chance. They sell them for $3.50 with free shipping (tho I had to pay tax since I'm in CA). It arrived and was like Christmas day. I'm not even kidding. I've had hundreds of mobile devices, and thousands of cases in my life, and this is hands-down the most 100% perfect fitting, most amazingly cut case I've ever bought, and it was only four bux! The camera cutout is EXACT, it's like the phone was dipped in the rubber. There's no lose\off-cut pieces. The shell is incredibly thin, and it's a material that doesn't stick to the inside of your pocket when you put it in and out.
I am ordering more from this seller to have as backups. Right now they're out of stock, so they raised the price to $100 to not sell any, but watch their website and grab them when they're back in stock. I can't even begin to tell you how impressed I am with the quality and fit of this case, it's as if my phone was dipped in the rubber, it just is 100% spot-on!

Ballistic vs Aegis

Hi,
I've been incessantly reading through this forum and am loving it. Read most of the case debates and anker vs mugen debates. I've recently got my Sensation and being a clumsy oaf have decided to case it - no matter the bulk.
From what I've read Otterbox cases have a few flaws, as does the Case mate tough series. Seidio seems to be holding people in good stead but i'm undecided about it. (yes I read the mini review and other threads)
The ballistic seems to be getting thumbs up all around (even on amazon and here)
http://www.goballisticcase.com/products/htc-sensation-4g-ballistic-shell-gel-sg-series-case
Am really leaning towards that.
The Aegis Trident seems less protective but has a cool feature that I thought was really thoughtful - the silicone flaps for each of the orifices (so to speak) to protect the openings from dust
http://www.tridentcase.com/case/htc/htc-sensation/htc-sensation-aegis-case.html
Comes in a lot of colour options too.
Would like your inputs in deciding between the two. Or possibly Seidio.
Ballistic is great, except for the weak point, hard plastic above the volume button.
It could crack when you take it off or put it on, or if you drop the phone left-top corner down...

Using the Otterbox commuter. The commuter is ALRIGHT but the flap that covers the headphone jack keeps popping out and the phone is a tad slippery. However as a whole it's a good case that is not too bulky unlike the ballistic.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA
I have the ballistic and love it had it for a month and it hasnt broke on me yet. It looks super nice as well lol.
Thanks guys!
It is really necessary to have those flaps? The ppl with seidio and Ballistic (sans flaps) do not seem to be complaining about the lack of it.
I don't mind bulk but I work in a school (dusty environment) and I want to protect my new possession.
So I suppose Commuter is back in the reckoning - reviews suggest issues with the headphone flap and a cheap A$$ screen protector which covers only the display area.
And I think the Aegis is out.
Just for looks value i like the TUT case as well But it has charging port issues. Have the later iterations eliminated this? Can anyone confirm?
I have all three cases Trident offers most protection just to big for me. Otterbox when new was great, then some weeks later flaps got flimsy and kept popping out. Seidio which has open ports is not only slim but feels great in the hand and offers just as much protection as the Otterbox other then it being dust proof.

+1 to ballistic, I was on the same boat as you looking for a good case, I bought the ballistic and never looked back!

are cases worth it?

I hardly drop my phone, and no I'm not being ignorant or cocky and saying "I'll never drop my phone". So I don't know can't find any cases of my like
If you can't find any you like, you dont HAVE to buy a case...

But then again, I don't want to spend to much. I want a stylish case. any recommendation?
neo hybrid is probably one of the more stylish cases (though costs $30)

It is like you buy insurance, if you know when you will drop it, there is nothing to talk about, but $20-30 to protect your $600-700 investment I think really is worth it.
Check out the Poetic Atmosphere case, here's my review on it

It's a nice looking case and it's cheap too.
Sent from Flip's S4
I've been through two feature phones and three smart phones and I never used a case until this one. For previous phones I would at most put a skin on them. I dropped my last two phones (Palm Pre and Nexus S) from ~2 feet a few times and each time it landed on a corner. No major damage, just scuff marks. The reports across the web are that the S4 doesn't hold up too well in comparison to other phones when dropped. The screen runs right to the corner which makes me worry. That plus the phone being so much larger (and harder to hold on to) made me decide to go for a case. I went with the Spigen Neo Hybrid, and I think it's great. Doesn't add much thickness, looks great and should protect the phone.
If you're looking for something stylish, I'd recommend either Verus Oneye - http://www.zoarah.com/by-brand/verus/#ty%3Bpagination_contents%3B%2Fby-brand%2Fverus%2Fpage-2%2F
Or
Spigen Slim Armor - http://www.spigen.com/galaxy-s4-case-slim-armor.html
Or If you dont mind a big case(with better protection), a Trident Aegis - http://www.tridentcase.com/shop-products/samsung-galaxy-iv-i9505/aegis-case-samsung-galaxy-iv-i9505.aspx
Today I went shopping for alternatives while waiting for the Spigen Neo Hybrid I ordered from across the atlantic, and stumbled across Samsungs own Protective Cover +. I had no idea what I was buying, but thought it could be worth the 20 bucks. Turns out it's actually a pretty solid case, with a sturdy polycarbonate back and what looks like TPU all around the sides. It even has holes on one of the corners to fit wrist straps and such.
I'm not a big fan of the grey TPU for the white version, but other than that I'm really impressed. Despite its name it's probably no more protective than a basic TPU shell though, in particular because it doesn't add more than a millimeter height to the edge of the screen.

Maybe a slim back cover is your like, covers are form-fitting snap-on covers that protect your cell phone without adding a lot of bulk, have openings for camera, volume/ side buttons, headset, charger jack and kickstand which allows access to all phone functions.
Nope, they aren't worth it when there is need for cheap Black Market spare parts.
Not a case man either but this case made me keep the S4. lol As far as being worth it ummm yea it's a 500 + phone. Only takes one drunk night. hehe

Which is the best Google sold case? Are they worth it?

I hear all these talks about cases blocking mics and the autofocus laser. My Project Fi Nexus 6p just shipped today and I'm wondering if it's worth getting a case through google with the Fi 50% discount code.
The microfiber case looks the most unique but there were initial concerns of it coming off the back (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/accessories/google-6p-carbon-quartz-case-t3213838). The Adopted case is the cheapest but doesn't look like much. What have you done?
I got the adapted and I like it a lot, however, I should have gotten the carbon. I got the frosted case thinking that it would be more see through on a graphite phone. It just doesn't look right. It is a bit slick, however, it fits the phone nicely and feels nice as well.
I got the $35 (carbon/quartz) case.
Look: so so, doesn't look as good as in the pictures
Protection: great, is pretty thick TPU
Feel: make the phone feel bigger
$35 no worth it, with your 50% off, yes it worth it.
One of the reason I got this case is it has the "NEXUS" logo instead some other case brand logo, but if the case is damaged I would not get another one. I would get a clear case.
Just as a note, I think the code only applies to the ADAPTED case.

Does anyone have a 50% code that they havent used or clicked on the link from the email? Would greatly appreciate it if you can share!
I'm returning the carbon Adopted microfibre case for my N6P. The fit was really snug and the ports/hole cutouts were all fine, but I couldn't justify spending nearly $40 CAD for essentially a TPU case with what amounts to a paper-thin microfibre sticker on the rear. Aside from future peeling concerns, I think the pattern and logo would also start peeling off after hundreds of time rubbing the inside of my jean pocket. Then the case wouldn't become anything special.
I'd rather spend 1/3 of the price on a Diztronic TPU case and customize it myself with a DBrand or Slickwrap skin (e.g. with the rainbow "X" logo).
Another option I'm considering is the Crash Guard by Evolutive Labs paired with a Slickwrap Natural Leather skin on the back.
Does anybody have a black version of this case (https://store.google.com/product/adopted_case_n6p) that they would be willing to sell? I am willing to pay over MSRP.
Beware of the Folio case. Mine is currently stuck on the phone. I'm not alone either it would appear (from the google product support forums). It looks likely that I'm going to have to return the phone for another.
There's either a batch issue or a design issue.
I have the Nexus official case in Carbon and it's great. Love the way it looks love the feel especially the felt back and it is very protective. Totally worth it. The adopted case is nice but I feel it's not as protective
You can count me as one of the 'Loving it!!'-camp. This case is exactly what it's portrayed as: the most intrinsically designed case for the 6P... The rest, as much as they try to be the same, they're still aftermarket products. Yes, I agree 35 dlls is not acceptable, but that's another issue apart from how good this case goes.
I'm another fan of the official case. I also have the Adopted, but the official case is the one on my phone right now and probably will stay that way.

I'm hoping I never have to take mine out again. Once was enough. It's jammed in there for good.

Spigen slim armor failing miserably

Hello.
Just wanted to warn everyone how spigen slim armor fails miserably after 2 weeks of very careful use (its an expensive phone after all).
The matt surface on the sides started degrading already after 10 days, it has the look that you see on the photos after 2 weeks. It's not even presentable.
Spigen supports leaves much to be desired, they implied that because I bought from a 3rd party seller the item might be counterfeit. They ate their tongue when I ve sent photos of the case and the package along with the receipt.
So be aware that this is a really unfortunate attempt for a decent case, too bad for spigen, I thought it was a trustworthy company.

Did they issue replacement / refund?
No they did not.
They did not seem to care a lot. They suggested to talk with the shop I purchased from. Now I am living in some other country and shipping back to the seller would cost me 15 euros, just does not worth my time and money to do that.
It's not about the money, it's the fact it shouldn't happen in the first place and mostly the fact they are not aware yet of the bad quality of this case because it's a relatively new product.
It will hurt them when they start coming back because of failing. Oh well, learn the hard way which companies respect their customers.
That looks like a tough armor? I've had mine few days seems good the slim armor cs was rubbish I thought. Didn't wireless charge and scratches after a day
That is just bad quality and I'm surprised it's from Spigen. Atlhough if you don't mind trying another Spigen case, I use the Thinfit 360 w/o the screen protector and I've been pretty happy with the fit & protection.
That looks just like the tough armor...
Edit: I have the tough armor, chuck that case and get the tough armor
I bought one on Amazon and have used it for about 2 weeks. Doesn't have one scratch and nothing is peeling. Do you keep rocks in your pocket?

Rocks in the pocket?
How'd ya think he paid for the phone & case..................
Dude. How? I've had this case since day one and have been using it on an off since I bought my N9 on release weekend. Did you buy directly from Spigen? I've heard mostly good stuff from their customer support. Something smells funky.
The case is genuine. Bought from an authorized seller.
It's not the tough armor, it's called slim armor.
It's much alike but different button layout and slightly less bulky than tough armor.
And no, I don't carry rocks in my pocket ?
It fails where my fingers are gripping the phone.
Maybe my fingers produce acid or something ?
Same here. I got the Tough Armor on note 9 and it's chipping and fading away in 2 weeks.
It's very strange as I've always bought Spigen right from note 4 and this is the first time it's caused an issue like this!
The Rugged and Liquid Armor I have got no such issues btw.
Wow, quite unfortunate. I've had the Rugged Armor for a month now and it still looks the same. At least you let Spigen know of the issue. Despite you getting it from an authorized seller, many stuff now are made as imitations, so sometimes its hard to tell. Good luck!
This is why I just order my Spigen from amazon and they have no problem refunding me for issues like this. Heck I just returned the blue/yellow one because it was super slick and they took it back no problem!
