Hellraid The Escape keeps crashing - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I just downloaded Hellraid The Escape and the game keeps crashing I am using mahdi rom 2.8, maybe I should go back to stock? who knows
anyone else playing this game?

I’m back on stock XNPH38R and game keeps crashing so who cares if you have adreno 330 or snapdragon 801 or 3gb ram if you don't have the right rom to back them up? Anyway anyone else that can actualy play the game?

After updating to 38R from 33R, I've found "Hellraid: The Escape" become unstable with many crashes. It's unplayable at the moment. Shame, as it's a nice game.
I've found the update has generally made everything a bit unstable though, not just this game. But I've also got better battery, so it's not all bad news! So should we be complaining to CM or the game's devs?

Bought it today and it keeps crashing after a maximum of 10 minutes :/ seems like a nice game but I hope this gets fixed!
edit: I'm on 38R.

There was an update to the game at the same time as I changed to 38R so I'm inclined to believe it's a problem with the update rather than a change in the OS.
I emailed the developers and they replied:
"We are aware of the issue and working on the fix - we are small team (7 people) so this can take 2-3 weeks - "

The game is great and it plays really well with Opo the only way that I found to play it with our device is by flashing latest international miui rom

So that tends to imply it's a problem with the OS rather than the game's recent update. I wonder if any other games are affected? If not, then I doubt cyanogen will bother to look into it. Shame, I was enjoying it before the updates.

Correct I had this kind of problem with other powerfull devices that I used to own the problem only appeared with custom roms and never with the official os and although that the cm is the official os of our device it‘s still a custom rom made by developers

New Tegra Game: History Great Battles - FAIL

Just thought I'd drop a line and warn everyone. I've been anxiously awaiting "History: Great Battles" for Tegra devices. Well sure enough it came out last night and to my dismay does not work on the G tablet (vegan ginger). Looks like the resolution or something is off - the menus work, but any movies/gameplay do not. The worst part is, the online download took 15 minutes which negated my "grace period" for return on the Android Market. I've written a letter to their dev team, but have not heard anything back.
Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erUZxsdex8g&feature=channel_video_title
Could be just the last of video acceleration on giner rom's. I'm running the same rom on my tablet and watching anything on the zone doesn't work. It had worked fine when I was running a froyo rom, which supports acceleration.
I did read on the Vegan website, that he is working on video acceleration for his rom. Just might have to be patient or change rom's for now.

That would make sense if it was just the "video" aspect that was messing up, but does that apply to the actual game play? Samurai works just fine - as does everything else I try...
Why not try a froyo rom and see or wait for hardware acceleration to be fixed

I'm flashing a froyo rom right now actually - its just a shame as I will sorely miss the Vegan Tab rom. Seems crappy to have to downgrade just to play a game
Well - it was the vegan ginger edition Back to Vegan 5.1.1 for me.

So the game works well on vegan 5.1.1? How is it? Im thinking of getting it
Glad you have the game running, enjoy, hopefully soon down the road will get the acceleration. The Vegan gingerbread is a great rom.
Dang. I just flashed back to Vegan 5 for this game but it's not showing up in the market! I did the market fix a few times too. Hmm... Any ideas?
EDIT
got the download link to show up after doing the market fix about 8 times.
Not fail for me. Running Vegan5.1.1 and it is running great.
Runs like crap for me. Menus are okay....game play is bad...forever to load....not all graphics are there...unplayable. calkulin w persboot oc.

Has anyone gotten this to run? It loads for me...gets past the first menu into the tutorial mission. Begins to load (graphics appear) and then crashes the tablet. Not an auspicious beginning. Considering this is specifically designed for Tegra 2 chips. I'm running vegan 5.11 by the by......

Actually, after trying out the new vegan tab ginger for a number of days, I'm glad to be back on froyo now. My experience with that is comparable to when I was on vista for a number of days before "downgrading" back to xp. Sure, it's "the new and flashy" thing, but I like stability more than "the new and flashy" thing.
Thought I'd update the thread - I flashed back to Froyo (Vegan 5.1.1) and was very excited to see the game start running. I jump into some of the missions and before I can move any troops, the game crashes and forces a total system reboot.
Looks like I'm going back to Vegan Ginger and waiting for acceleration. Wish I could get a refund.

That's good news. I haven't actually tried playing it after installing so I don't know if I'll run into any of the issues others are having. I'll test it tomorrow and add my findings to this thread too.
Tried it on TNT Lite and the graphics are scrabled bit as to make it unplayable. sound was ok..

Same here. Doesn't work on Vegan Ginger. Refund period passed before it was done downloading. Kinda pissed.
I had the same issue with vegan 5.1 then I flashed the brilliant colors rom and it works great now. No freezing or crashing on any tetra apps
Got a reply from their customer service:
"Hi Brad,
I'm sorry you are having issues with the game! Please keep in mind that Great Battles Medieval is recommended only on Tegra 2 devices with valid Android Market storefronts, such as:
- Honeycomb enabled tablets
- Motorola Atrix
- LG Optimus G2X
Your device is either not Tegra 2 or does not come with a valid Android Market storefront. To order the game you must have modified your software to enable the Android Market storefront or bypass the restrictions. Some people have been able to get the game to run on your device and you are welcome to try but we don’t have any information on what might help as it is related to the specific software installed on your machine and are unable to support it.
If you would prefer to cancel your order please let us know your order details.
Thank you!
Slitherine Support"
Looks like I'll be filing for that return.
"- Honeycomb enabled tablets

- LG Optimus G2X"
So what devices are they hoping to run this on? The Xoom, Acer, and Asus.. boy are they missing out on a huge portion of the market.
Yeah, tried to run it on Vegan 5.1.1 with pershoot's kernel. No dice. Menus are fine. But as soon as I clicked the tutorial option, the following screen ran sluggishly and then froze, then black screen, then crash.
Someone said Brilliant Colors rom ran it well? I'm currently loving my set up, how does BC compare to Vegan?

[Q] TF101 on ICS: Graphics crash while gaming

All,
Since upgrading to ICS on my transformer, i have found that some graphically developed games tend to crash in the exact same manner... during some high graphic scene like an explosion or a car crash, etc the frame freezes and becomes distorted, all the while the sound is still going. A few seconds later the game crashes and im back to the home screen.
So far i have seen this on:
ShadowGun (non tegra optimized version)
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
Frontline Commando (this one ive had before ICS for a while with no issue)
Has anyone seen anything like this? And more importantly does anyone know of a solution?

ICS is still under-developed ! I mean there are some minor bugs. NFS Hot Pursuit just froze a few mins ago for me !!!!! Used "force stop" and restart app......otherwise have to reboot. The devs are working on the latest update, and some ROMs are a little behind.
It's an annoyance, I know........but a minor one ??
Good luck !!
Yes, since going to ICS on my SGS2 Spiderman and a bunch of other Gameloft games have started crashing after a few minutes of running.
The audio is fine and and all in game videos also run without hitch, as soon as you start to play, blink its gone.
I have been in touch with Gameloft but as yet they are niether confirmning nor denying an issue with the games and ICS.
If anything of use comes from Gameloft I will update here.
Hope it can be sorted soon, my son is going mad with no Spiderman and Shrek Kart!
update
Just an an FYI, I have found that after a reboot the games run fine for a while. I have actually started purposely rebooting after running for over 18hrs straight. after that the weird stuff (app crashes, display glitches, etc) is an almost certainty.
Gameloft have admitted issues with certain games and ICS. They asked me to email them details of game versions and ICS Builds and what exactly happened to produce the crash etc. (the usual stuff)
Apparently they are working on updates....? Hmmm we'll see.
Either way a barrage of techies emailing them software specs and demanding updates can only help.
The address I used was [email protected]
It took them days to reply each time but they did respond!
I had this happening on EOS build 12 with gangstar:rio and order&chaos, especially order and chaos.
Was probably a bug in the kernel, as they work just fine on eos 19.
nasty: I hope you told them to add TF support for all the games working on A500/xoom !
Unfortunatly, this problem still persist. There's a bunch of games I can't play on my TF101, even with stock rom.
Here's a small list
Magicka
Ice Age Village
Auralux
Bards Tale
This are basically, games that use high end graphics.
Is there a chance that my gpu/cpu is broken?

Like a 0.1% chance. The kernel in the stock Asus ROMs suck. They have been problematic with memory management (including graphics memory, which is likely the problem here) since the first Asus ICS release. Flash a better kernel (guevor's in ICS or KAT in JB) and try again.

Android 4.4 Kit Kat Gaming

After updating to Kit Kat I decided to try out a game I've been playing recently (Modern Combat 4). A normally smooth game with not too many glitches is now nearly unplayable. When I am aiming my gun (It is an FPS game) the aim goes crazy as if someone else is moving my screen around. I was interested to see if this was an issue with only this game... It wasnt. Modern Combat 3 doesn't even start up, minecraft pocket edition has the same weird movements while moving my player around. Grand theft auto vice city has had extreme lag issues. For me this is a major issue because I use my tablet a lot for gaming. By the way it is a Nexus 7 (2013) Running stock 4.4. So overall, my question is has anyone else experienced this? Has google said anything about it, and if none of these have happened yet... How can I downgrade to 4.3? Thank You!

Frankly it may not be a googles problem but more the app and game developers updating their apps for the Kit kat version of Android, which I am sure they are already working on, as its money in the bag for them As for end users, yes, its a pain in the butt till updates starts rolling out.
Check this out! Links to useful Guides and " Banned " Documentaries
the problem is in the app not yet been upgraded to Android 4.4. Give it time and you'll see that everything will work out for the best!
On my nexus 10 I had problems only when using art, and the list of apps and games which doesn't support it's rapidly shrinking. Performance wise I don't seem to notice anything different.
I wanted to try kitkat
But the more I read, the less I think I'm going too like it.

Shield KitKat emulator slowdowns

hi everyone,
i want to ask if anyone also has experienced slowdowns and framerate hiccups in certian emulators (MD.emu, NES.emu, SNES9X EX+...) since the OTA 72 like me? I allready made a full factoryn reset with no success
Hey same trouble here, same emulators. What's sad is it just seems to be slow enough to cheapen the experience. Like you get just a few dropped frames here and there or you can turn frameskip off and get horrible sound crackling. Funny, I did the same factory reset, too. This sucks I would hate to backtrack. I was really looking forward to being able to charge and still use my usb port.
And I just did some digging around the Shield forums before posting this. We are certainly not the only ones with this issue.

Ah Darn yea I'm experiencing barely noticeable performance changes to my emulators, although very minor like you said it does cheapen the experience to a once nearly perfect experience minus the small audio latency in android.
What version of Android is on an out of box unit? I want one just for emulators, so if I buy one at Gamestop, I will not update.
I wrote to the developer of the .emu apps Robert Broglia and got the following answer:
Hi, this is a known issue and from my testing I found 2 problems with the 4.4 update:
1. The CPU speed decreases to very low levels if you don't push any buttons on the gamepad, causing dropped frames
2. The refresh rate is now incorrectly reported as 60.03Hz when it's actually 59.94Hz causing timing issues
I reported these problems to Nvidia and they said they're looking into it. Hopefully they can fix this in the next OS update.
Now i'm hoping that Nvidia is making an update soon to get rid of these bugs/problems.

updated and rooted today -no emulators lag
+++
- root from github works (no superuser app was installed but it works without any just fine --donno how.. ok for me! )
- SD fix from NextApp works with no issues. It was the first thing I did and Folder Mount worked ok right after then next reboot.
- mounting points changed again.. now internal is on /storage/emulated/0 and SD is at /storage/sdcard1
- no emulators lag or anything unusual.. work great as before. No difference in frame rates for android games also.. everything as before. Also didn't noticed CPU scaling differently. Same interactive governor.. no hick-ups when using only touch...
- I previously had a random screen flicker on the left side of the display, when using overlay program like cool tools (as I run it all the time)-- in all 65-67-68 builds. Now it's gone
- 99% of my apps work ok after root and sd fix. (MC3 for example was the only one that now seems unsupported and it crashes at start. And on the market is gone for the shield.)
- more polished UI, bit more fluid. Boot time slightly better (for my ~200 apps or so).
- redesigned nvidia TegraZone (now more games options );
- GRID beta now works but I only tried grid (the racing game) -and it was not controller. Onlive still a much better alternative.
- even more mature GameMapper app
- - -
- microphone doesn't work anymore (audalyzer, widgetsoid -rec button feature, smart voice recorder, voice search.. nada!). Strange..
- a bug that previously had on all builds it's still there: a while after reboot when I press the volume button then "+" and "-" buttons do not work.
- MC3 it's not supported anymore
- now testing another bug that I previously had: no matter the video player (I have MX and BS Player), when streaming a movie from my desktop or whatever (tried from laptop also), after about an hour or so of continuous streaming.. sudden reboot... i believe it's not a temperature issues, since locally (from sdcard) the movie played for 3 hours straight with the shield wrapped in a scarf and everything was ok. Router at work also tested. The sharing method it's via file browsers like fx explorer or ES (and tried both).. no SMB mount (I don't have a different kernel with cifs.. just share from windows and then browsed to the network drive).
Your mx player bug sounds a bit specific to your setup. I havent experienced that yet, i use mx myself, and have streamed several movies from my laptop and never had a reboot with 4.3 or 4.4.

The only place I see concern about this is Shield forums. No reports of this for non Shield devices. Seems if a 4.4 issue in general for all devices, we would see a lot of folks posting, since a lot of forum dwellers notice these things. Even on non gaming type devices.
Does the Shield have 4.3 out of box and is there a way to turn off updating WITHOUT root?
Have you tried using retroarch instead of the paid ones?
I ordered one from Best Buy, since Gamestop has a no return policy. If still on 4.3 and I can stop updates without rooting, I will keep it.
I have little if any desire to play PC games on 5" display. I find the 10.6" display on my V11 Pro almost too small with Farcry, Halo and the Unreal Tournament games.
This will be a game emulator station for me.
I do love the kit kat update an all.. NVIDIA shield runs great on Stock android starting from 4.3 to kitkat, i can berely notice the difference in performance in the OS it self.. The problems arise in the emulators. Slowdowns, and sound crackling, more than the usual 1 or 2 in various emulators. Just like the other posters stated. It really does take away from the experience. Not sure if PC streaming is really effected much.. seem to run the same to me.... i only tried out real boxing for android games, that ran smooth still... haven't tried any other android game yet.... This caused me to Downgrade back to 4.3 using Shield RAM v1.0.. for those of you looking to downgrade back, hurry and get it while you can, before the develeper updates that great little Program using the latest kitkat update 72 from NVIDIA....

I would like to update a to 4.3, but absolutely not to 4.4. Was hoping 4.3 was on the device out of box, but has 4.2. Emulators are my main focus, so a performance hit and the sd issues are reasons to avoid 4.4.
Google is starting to suck real bad like Apple.
Fortunately Nvidia allows you to unlock your boot loader and root your device. With root, you can fix SD card issues and stutter problems for emulators by increasing the minimum frequency when using those apps

Would you please try the GBA.emu with Castlevania Aria of Sorrow?
Please try it with, and without changing the cpu freqs. Also w/o frame skip.
Just skip all the text, and go right into the game where you're walking to the right and killing Zombies. If it doesn't lag I'd be amazed.
I'm asking about that emu and game, because it seemed like one of the hardest hit emulators that works perfectly well before KitKat.
I downgraded some time ago to 4.3, otherwise I would try myself. But I remember that game was unplayable with KitKat, and perfect on Jellybean.
My next question is, why isn't the Shield getting better battery life? (Because we think the cpu is less aggressive in KitKat)
For me it got worse in KitKat, streaming used to be an easy 6+ hours, now the Shield almost never reaches 4.5 hours SOT when doing anything!
I don't think it has anything to do with the CPU/governor (in general) I think it's something to do with the update.
Regardless, I'm pretty happy with Jellybean. There's a few things I wish I could do, like charge and USB host at the same time, but there's really not much that KitKat actually brought to the table that you can't use with Jellybean. (remote streaming, gamepad mapper)

Hello, I feel your pain with the battery life after updating to kit kat.. i tried out Castlavania: Aria of Sorrow without any CPU cpu freqs changes and setting frameskip to 0.. I personally use my!boy.. but tried out the emu.gba, it's running smooth to me.. no frame skips what so ever.. My shield is Rooted with the SDFix.. Maybe that has something to do with it.. not sure.. but it runs smooth for me.. I won't reccomend to update to kit kat and it doesn't work out for you.. If your comfortable with Jelly bean, stick with that.. I downgraded from KitKat originally also, and went back to jellybean 4.3, that's what originally came with my shield when i baught it from Game stop.. I knew there would be some devs and talented other users that would fix these emulation issues with kitkat..
As far as the battery life goes.. I don't know the answer to that as of now... It does seem like it's an NVIDIA problem IMO also.. but I could be wrong about that one.. Just do what your comfortable with.. stay with Jellybean if everything is working the way it should for you... If you decide to update back to KitKat.. I suggest you root, and use the SDFIX app from the app store.. along with SET CPU for emus with the slow downs that eikast suggested (thanks again for that).. for now until NVIDIA releases another update for the shield... not sure how long that would be though....

Best ROM for running kids' games?

Hi everyone,
Simply put, what's the best ROM to use specifically for a 7 year old who wants to play games like the Lego games, Minecraft PE, and that awful bloons TD battles?
Everything was fine until my child's p5113 updated itself automatically to 4.2.2. Immediately after, it became unstable, frequently crashing and rebooting itself. Oddly, my other, identical p5113 used by my other child had no issues with the 4.2.2 update. Maybe a bad download flash? After some months of hearing complaints of the tablet freezing/rebooting in the middle of my kid's games, I decided to flash a custom ROM and get rid of all the bloat.
I used a May build of Omnirom which was much more stable, but I grabbed it at a time when it was having issues with disabling the keyboard (it assumed a hardware keyboard was present). So after every reboot I had to go into settings and fix it, not useful for a 7 year old child. But we made do through spring and summer until things started getting unstable again.
I installed Slimkat yesterday, and it looks beautiful, but the LEGO Speedorz game installs but dies right before the racing action starts. Bloons battles downloads but gives an error during installation. Sigh.
Cyanogenmod gives the same problems with the games, as does the latest Omnirom.
I don't care at all about fancy stuff, I just want something basic t hat actually works for my kid's games. I've installed several ROMs over the past day... several wouldn't even boot. I'm tempted to get an account at SAMMOBILE to get the stock firmware and flash that, but stock is so bloaty I imagine that's a source of problems.
I suspect I may have an actual board problem with the tablet, but before selling this one for parts and buying a new one, I'd like to exhaust all possibilities. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Marc
My daughter has Stock 4.1.1 (P5113UECLK7) rooted with the Next kernel and it seems to be ok. She runs a Ton of games daily with Minecraft being number 1. I have the file but am unable to upload it here so I would have to send it thru an email link. I have various others as well....Pure Vanilla 4.2.2, Brolees 4.2.2 and Shakatus newest Zapblaster v2.3 which is 4.2.2 Thats a really zippy ROM and he just updated it for the last time so its pretty new and very good. You can get that one on xda but I believe that all the lenks are down for the rest I mentioned. But I do have them just in case.

Excellent. Thanks. If you could PM me a link to Pure Vanilla that would be great. I was looking for that one yesterday and the links were dead. :crying: The Shakatu mostly stock/rooted one didn't boot for me for some reason. But Ripper ROM based on it seems to be working well. Would love pure vanilla as a backup. I will also look into the zapblaster one.
Thanks so much for replying!

Sammobile and samsung-updates both have that file. Sammobile doesn't send me any emails even though I have an account so that isn't really a problem. The accounts are free. If you root it, you can remove the extra system apps. You could also flash the next kernel for some extra speed and overclock.
