From this thread:
NOTE FOR EVERYBODY
Copy & paste this answer in any thread like this.
Android 5.0 Lollipop from Team Canjica probably will never see the light. In our opinion, Galaxy S Advance and in generally STE-based devices are too weak to handle well another Android major release.
The fact is that more time passes, more OS and applications become heavier and complex.
Was a pain to get a "stable" (between quotes since still has some issues like huge battery drain, that can't be fixed) Kitkat.
Another major release means heavier, more complex, CPU even with OC is too slow to handle and execute well threads, RAM memory is too little and this means lags, impossibility to run big apps and the Mali 400 single core GPU is too weak for more complex graphic effects in games that will come and especially in transitions between menus, pull down status bar etc. The last perfect major release for this device is Jelly Bean 4.3, to build any major release means that we need to research and find (with A LOT OF TESTING) how to fix bugs, means that we need to develop new OMX patches to make camera and videos working. KitKat is okay but huge battery drain and a lot of lags are signal that it's the last major release that these STE devices can handle in a non-stable way against JB 4.3 that it's almost (to not say "totally") stable. Now, stop a moment and imagine Lollipop, totally ruined user experience. Do you wanna live together with device lagging 99/100 times (1/100 without lags rightly after power on, maybe) and with charger always connected? We should be lords of our devices, not slaves. Nobody of us still uses a STE device and without is totally impossible to develop what has never been developed, if you want to keep updated I'm sure that you would change device asap, today even a 100€ device is more powerful than these. Janice will be 3 years old on April 2015, it's just the future coming...
We loved this device, development, known good guys here... Officially this device died on 4.1, Team Canjica gave you 3 major releases!!!
Never forget

Nope, sorry, we all have new devices. @diego-ch is the last one to join the qcom familiy (LG G3), @Rox- has a Galaxy S3 Neo, and if I remember correctly, @frapeti has a Galaxy S4. And @zwliew (for those who don't know him, he as contributed a lot to the kernel we use for both janice and codina, he had the latter, codina) got a Moto X 2013 (I think that's right?). Heck, even cocafe has a new qcom device (Xperia z1).
And because Lollipop (and CM12, and OminROM versions of it too) has arrived, we are focusing on our new main devices. So, for now, no Lollipop love for janice (and Antares already said what we think as whole), yet still we may do something on the future (no promises).

We are tired to work on a device that nobody of us still has...
Inviato dal mio GT-I9505
Guys, it's simple: if you want to have the latest software updates will have to buy a new phone . Why .. ? because everything moves and is logical and normal that the developers change their phones and stop giving importance to the devices that few people have these days . The S Adv is a phone of 2012. Personally I still have this device because it fulfills , for now, my requirements . I know not everyone can change their phone but as I said , everything progresses and is logical that requirement . We are going great KitKat . We can not ask for much more .
Regards .
yes, there is
i booted up cm12 on my s advance, it has some bugs.. like vibration, some sensors, and others
for those still waiting look in original development thread
,near stable cm 12 has been built by hastalafiesta.notable bugs include video recording doesnt work(stills work fine though),auto brightness(manual adjustment works),wifi direct, compass, gps.the rest(calls, data, wifi) work just fine.ui is fluid enough.i suggest u flash the 12/05/2015 build.personally tested the 03/05 build ,the latesf one only got better
install process is same like any kitkat rom:
for the 12/05/2015 build, simply clean install over stock jellybean firmware(installed thru odin of course).no need to install any special kernels in the intermediate process, simply clean intall thru temp cwm recovery.just remember install seems blocked at "found ext4 partition at mmcblk03,05,03...."something like that, dont panic its still installing...takes nearly 30 mins for the install to complete

I guess every one know PACman, it's CM+AOKP+PA. So same bugs, same features. I didn't added, removed, or modified, anything - just put the p720 device tree into the source (synced against latest repos) and built it. So all credits goes to the awesome CyanogenMod Team, and of course the folks from ParanoidAndroid and PACman.
And many thanks to the whole community, without XDA and the awesome tutorials this wouldn't be possible.
How to flash: Same like CM10. If I need to tell you this, you better don't flash
Not working: 3D Features of course
No Gapps included! Flash the usual jellybean pack, like found here –> Goo.im
Remark: Don't be to harsh, this is my first rom
Source: In case anyone want it, all "my" sources are on Github.
Kernel: https://github.com/mcdope/lge-kernel-omap4/tree/3.0-workingmerge#readme (Make sure you use the "3.0-workingmerge" branch, master compiles fine but wouldn't boot)
android_vendor_pac: https://github.com/mcdope/android_vendor_pac
r2 - First update!
Added (or better said removed from packaging removal) ParanoidPreferences
Added ParanoidWallpapers
Added LG ICS Bootanimation (sourced from androidbootanimation.com)
Newest jellybean sources from all upstream repos
Download Update #1 / r2 -> [obsolete]
r3 - Second update!
Removed Superuser + SuperSU, added koush's variant instead
Updated kernel from 3.0.21 to 3.0.39! Performance, and hopefully battery, improvements
Antutu Score: ~450 points increase
Quadrant Score: ~300 points increase
Note: benchmarks got done @ 1200 Mhz and performance scheduler, but kernel defaults to 1000Mhz and interactive! You can adjust this in the usual places...
Again synced with latest upstream sources, but no real changes there...
Download Update #2 / r3 -> p720_PAC_JB_4.1.2-v19.3.0_r3-final.zip - 140.54 MB
NOTE: I've stopped all work on this ROM, since I got annoyed from not getting CM10.1 to boot and the loosy battery performance of the 3D Max. So my 3D Max went to the pocket of my wife and I switched to a more developer friendly device - Xperia Z. I'll still answer questions here (no PMs please - esp. if you disabled recieving them ), but no updates anymore for sure. There wouldn't be real changes anyway...
ANOTHER NOTE, THREE YEARS LATER: This ROM is still dead - nothing changed from the infos in this thread. There is NO need to ask me questions about it by PM. Which, on another note, sucks anyway - questions belong in the thread! Even if I wanted to answer them, I couldn't - see, it's ridiculous there is even a need to tell so, I haven't used it for 3 years now... Also I recommend to stay away from this device as far as you can - it just sucks.
Thanks for the rom. Gotta love the PAC. Which CM10 built did you use?

Its compiled from latest jellybean branch, so its CM10.
There is currently no CM10.1 device tree for our p720, but i will try to get a working 10.1 compile, but that wont be as easy as this so dont expect much. Like written, im totally new to Android builds xD

I don't know why to be honest. But as far as i know (which isn't very far in this case ) Android (or the kernel) reserves some for himself which is subtracted from the shown RAM

If you're asking if 3D is working, see OP - or the post right in front of yours . About kernel: it's based on the CM10 omap4-common kernel, but patched. For details about the changes see my Github log. What do you mean with out date?
Thanks for your ROM, I was thinking about cutomizing it.

IF no, any clues or tips ?

Even if I had problems with it, the cool thing about GPL code is that it wouldn't matter But no, i've got no problem with it - go ahead and pimp the hell out of it.
But be careful if you use "my" kernel, and/or device tree. The github for both has a bunch of commits that never went into this rom. This is because of many tries to get CM10.1 based code booting (getting it to compile was easy, but hangs on bootscreen forever - i gave up on it). If you wanna fiddle with it, and get problems, i'll try to help you. But i don't have the Max anymore for testing...
I've got annoyed from not getting CM10.1 to work and the absolutly crappy battery life. So i would be perfectly fine if you "overtake" it. (Got myself a yuga / Xperia Z and dumped the LG to my wife - thanks to a tax payback )

Thanks for your fast answer man!
Just one tip I promise that I don´t bother you anymore.
By now I was messing with copying files from one rom to another, some configurations, but I couldn´t understand for example why some apps don´t run in JellyBean ? Like the 3D ones and a non-3D like Polaris Office and Radio FM, its because of the framework or the lib ? or both ?
call echo problem ?
Hi
after years...
I've searched the whole internet for a mirror of this rom but no luck
anyone can upload it for me?
I want it for my father WhatsApp doesn't work on a4 anymore
We all know that our device has less RAM, it cannot handle big games and there is battery drain problem too in the ICS and JB ROMs. So it would be helpful if some developers find a way to bring those goodies to our device too
We must appreciate the work being done by Lola on X-GamerZ ROM. Don't forget to thank him.
There is already a project running on the smallest ROM i.e, Barebone.. for the Galaxy s plus device.

This is a pretty cool idea... basically this Barebones ROM can transform your device into a one application only device. For example, there would be no launcher, you could replace the launcher with a music app, which in essence would make your Galaxy SL into a simple music player. It would be useful if your Galaxy SL is not your primary device and you need a dedicated music/video player, and if you dont have any other use for your SL. Benefits of this ROM? You could have much longer battery life because of all the disabled services, boot time would be incredibly quick. This is interesting, I might take a look into it and if I get it to work I will post a Barebones ROM (no promises :silly: ) , even though I doubt many people would use it.
Edit:
Actually it doesn't have to be just one app, if you keep the Barebones launcher that comes with the ROM you can use multiple apps, just dont expect to be able to use phone call, sms, wifi or bluetooth

and thanks for the interest you are showing on this. May be we can expect a small ROM with basic functionalities :fingers-crossed:
May be a rom like liteKPU released earlier.
Though it was not 33mb but it was pretty sleek. Which made it super fast.
Maybe a liteLF2 can solve the purpose with some tweaks.

Yeah that's true, but as we already have developers working on JB, why go back to GB!?
Once the kernel 3 is ready for daily use, no one will look back. .
So may be a small JB ROM with kernel 3 would run in a blazing speed in our device

I have tried this CM10.1 [ROM][4.2.2] for sometime, it's really fast and everything works fine except the fact that you cannot restart without removing battery and frequent SODs.
After the ICS development stopped at Alpha 14 and JB development going on but still at Alpha 5, we don't have a stable ROM

As HTC CHACHA user, We have long stopped relying on HTC to support HTC CHACHA.
Let's get started. Let's compile a new kernel for HTC ChaCha!
Here are my thoughts :
Because I'm not sure which version of linuxkernel is a good start. so let's assume 3.x.xx is the new version.
And the difference between the two versions(chacha-gb-crc-2.6.35-1643b58 & linux-3.x.xx.tar.gz) is too large,
It may require us to apply the changes manually.

AM I Correct?
I've been taken this boring part (diff chacha-gb-crc-2.6.35-1643b58.tar.gz linux-2.6.35.10.tar.gz),
AND I have already completed. Boring Boring Boring. AND I have checked it again again again.
So you can trust. There are no mistakes. EOL.
https://github.com/Luzifer1984/diff_chacha_kernel
You will find out more information about ChaCha in "kconfig"
Following is the key to transplant:
1.Circumspection: Attitude determines success
2.Skill: Linux Kernel
3.A modicum of luck: Right now we have no more hardware information about HTC ChaCha.
Step1.Transplant Linux kernel
Step2.Integrate and Modify
TOOL
1.Windows: WinMerge OR BeyondCompare
2.Linux: Meld OR BeyondCompare
Potential problems, and possible solutions:
Let's take HTC CHACHA for example.
Differences between linux-3.x.xx.tar.gz and chacha-gb-crc-2.6.35-1643b58.zip caused problems.
when the differences are big to complete files, that seem daunting and maybe even impossible. don't panic when you see that. You must be particularly careful
AND
The following principles should be respected as far as possible:
1. It would be even better if you could copy the hardware-related source code from old version to new version
2. About hardware-related source code, if old version and new version had changed same file (same file name) with different content. then we base the old version.
Because old ones did work. Old hardware-related source code got CHACHA working well.
3. source code unrelated as hardware, We should use the new one. as possible. (kernel's update)
4. if the file is difficult for you to conceive how to deal with , u should MARK and skip it.
Let's get simple tasks done first. And complete some tasks that you are absolutely sure what will happen.
Then come back to deal with the previously skipped files. This part may require us to diff other sources to get the right way.
4.1 reference sources from other devices, like LG Optimus Me P350 /ZTE Blade/ HTC Wildfire S (MSM7227 Armv6 Adreno200)
4.2 kernel.org updated kernel which caused the difference . we should find the difference between linux-3.x.xx.tar.gz & linux-2.6.35.10.tar.gz(diff)
About trade secrets and patents involved, I think there is no way to avoid. So let's forget it!
Please think about this idea and let us know what you think.
Does anybody know what i meant? Sorry for my poor English. Maybe you could convey my word meaning and revise this post.
@Adumont You are a good developer. good at English ang Git. expert in android.
Could you lead us to take it further? I like chacha so much.

I can't be of much help, but check out the Atrix 4G kernel port project. It's goal is identical to this and they made tremendous progress. Obviously it will be different for the ChaCha, but the steps that need to be done will be similar.
Consider contacting the developers behind it.

I downloaded the three files found on your folder and as I have understood, linux-2.6.35.10.tar.gz + diff.patch = chacha-gb-crc-2.6.35-1643b58.tar.gz, isn't it??

Are experienced with ROM development and with Chacha?
I'm interested to make a new ROM for it but I'm totally new, if you would like that we work together please let me know.
Also regarding the small internal memory for Chacha, how do you overcome it? Link2SD isn't a solution.
Forum Dead?
Has there been any progress made on the kernel builds at all? There are far less phones with a qwerty keyboard that can even run a custom ROM nowdays. Obviously HTC is not supporting the phone anymore anyway, so I think it is about time we had at least a functioning kernel!

Not to be pessimisstic but I guess 4.2.2 is as far as we can get as a stable ROM ajeeval has been working on kit kat according to a post I read but it's way more complicated to achieve a stable version.
A9 owners speak up!! This is for all A9 owners and would be A9 owners who would love to see development of AOSP and CM based ROMS. GPE port from the M8 and any other ROMS. As well custom Kernels like ElementalX. Thanks to @jcase we have S-off, modified boot image for disabling forced encryption and allowing root and @Chainfire we have SuperSu and @Captain_Throwback and @Dees_Troy we have TWRP. A million thanks to all involved in the development so far. I would just love to get a feel for how many users out there are waiting for and would help support the development of custom ROMS and kernels! Let the wishful thinking be heard :good:
Also love to hear from developers! Progress, status updates etc etc
UPDATE: First ROM is now here! Thanks to @Captain_Throwback Located here!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...9-base-roms-recovery-flashable-t3282335/page4
I wil definitly would love some customs kernel
I am waiting for this from Beginning. Can not wait anymore. .
:laugh::good:
Thanks
Okkkayy!! So I knew the fan base for this device was low compared to say the M7 and M8 but didn't realize it was this low Expected to hear WAY more than this!!
I've been waiting as well.

HTC!!! Good to their word! Just got 6.0.1!! [/ATTACH]
It would be good to get some CM development up and running.
What's new in this 6.0.1 ? ??

Well, one thing I don't like is that it now requires your pattern or pin to unlock the device after a reboot where as before after a reboot it would unlock with the just the finger print reader It can now read the new 6.0.1 emoji-cons but still cant send them. They just don't show up in the keyboard. I want to pop my verizon SIM into it and see if anything changed there. Still testing otherwise. Haven't noticed that much else.

Soo, no changes on verizon.. Still shows LTE logo with no bars and LTE data works but to voice or text. With AT&T however, VoLTE seems to now be working on all calls, not just other users on AT&T on iPhone 6's and 6s's which is very exciting!! LTE works during all phone calls.. See screen shots.
What about a bounty for a custom rom ?
Why do you think we are here on XDA?!?! Of course we want custom Roms and Kernels!!!!
Thanks

Of course!! I wasn't doubting that I was looking to see what kind of support for it was out there and judging by the posts here there is very very little

I thought I was the OP of the A9 TWRP thread, not @Dees_Troy?
(or course without him, we wouldn't have TWRP at all)
I'm surprised there aren't at least any stock rooted ROMs floating around the Development forum. I did post one earlier today in someone else's thread, but I'm not sure how much exposure that's going to get. As far as AOSP ROMs go, the good thing is that there is a bit less Sense on the A9 than on previous devices (more like a GPE device), so hopefully that'll make porting CM to it less cumbersome.

Yes, of course!! my bad. Its why I have the little thing at the end that says (thanks to "all" involved in the development so far) not trying to take credit from anyone!!
Yes, I definitely appreciate the more stock google look and feel of the A9 but its no substitute for a pure GPE or CM ROM!
MTK Development TeamDear Devs and Users from Pure XL community
For a year I was trying to get Android 6.0 working on our devices but without luck. There were always problems with booting.
Now I want to work in a bigger team so I've started a new GitHub organisation called MTK Development Team.
About the project
Why?
The goal is to make a working (booting!) Android 7.1 custom ROM. With the power of the team it will be much easier than working on my own.
Custom ROMs
You know the best custom ROM to start a big adventure with was CyanogenMod. Since it will not be supported (read more here) we will be focusing on Lineage OS.

Supported devices
As you may know BLU Pure XL is just rebranded Gionee Elife E8 which is also the same phone as Allview X2 Soul Xtreme - there is no difference in making custom ROMs for them. Personally, I have the X2 Xtreme, that is why there are repos mostly for this phone. There is android_device_mediatek_mt6795-common repo which is the base for mentioned phones.
Keep in mind that these repos are still in the development and may be incomplete but I will update them as soon as possible.
Being part of the team
Just before application
It would be very helpful if you had Allview X2 Soul Xtreme/BLU Pure XL/Gionee Elife E8 on your own or had an access to it. Then you could test every changes you have made to the repos on your own device.
Application
If you wold like to be a part of the MTK Development Team, please fill this form:

I would like to invite every developer or savvy user who would like to help me making this real.

That's pretty much it. Thank you for your attention and I hope some of you would like to take a part in this project. This thread will be updated.
Thanks!
I would like to send special invitation to:
@Moyster
@zrgravity
@root-expert
@acheron1502
Well thanks for the invitation Bem. I actually don't own any of these phones so I don't know if i can help that much.
I can contribute to the project if you want though.

I know it will be hard af but I want to try. I bought this phone because of decent specs so I can't loose my chance.

Well that's not going to be a big problem we will probably be missing a lot of symbols but we can always shim our libs and get past those errors.

Bringing that tree forward, and applying lineage 13 or lineage 14 patches, should be able to compile a workable rom.

No, I don't build on any device I don't own.
Good luck to you all.
I will be releasing LineageOS 13 for Blu Life Max in the next few days, then work on Lineage 14.

Oh, ok, I tried to take the high road in this, but if you want to be an asshole:
Heavy pressure on a guy to send a $350 phone to you so you can "have a go at it." Forgive me if that sounds extremely suspicious. THAT was what I thought better of and wrote "ignore" for. So go **** yourself.
