After the squeaking back cover of the Touch Dual, another noisy HTC unit ! At least my test unit it seems...has anyone else noticed that when you tap at the top of the screen, say the x box, when you let it go there is a noise of something coming unstuck/unglued ?
If you swipe your thumb from let to right applying some gentle pressure it is event more obvious. Anyone else or is my screen maybe not properly glued on...
I listened really closely, and the only sound I could detect was my oily finger coming off the screen! You may have a defective unit because I don't seem to detect the problem you are talking about. Hope this helps!
Yes, thanks, will need to take it back then, just my luck !
You did apply some moderate pressure didn't you ? It's particularly noticeable around the loudspeaker and camera openings. Or it maybe static I'm hearing, doubt it since I don't have the noise at the bottom of the screen.
GpsPasSion
i tried several times but there's no noise.
Maybe u should check it with HTC or the store where u got it?
I
I have the same problem. On the top of the screen only
Rather annoying isn't it ? I have it on the sides a bit too, it seems to be worse when the screen is hot. Possibly the joint between the "touch" screen and the frame.
I guess I'll take it back but I think the guys are going to look at me "sideways" over there ;-) It seems to me the quality of HTC phones has been going down a bit lately, prices stay high though. I wonder if all the Cruise devices aren't going to develop that problem over time...
Hi,
I've got a similar problem. It also happens when I firmly press X, but the noise comes from the back cover (the antenna-box ) and it's because the back cover (top, not the battery cover) is not stuck tight enough (left side, so right side if you're looking from the front). Annoying? Maybe. Deffective? Not really I'll live with it
i have the same issue with the screen, i have done about 20 minutes of "up close and personal" tapping, pushing, etc and it is definately the screen...
not so worrying right now, BUT if it is loose now, how will it be in a few months.
i had this same problem when buying a Nokia a while back, I went through 4 of them sitting in the store and they all had the same problem, so i gave up and bought a different phone.
i wonder how Devicewire will handle this? as i really dont want to, nor can i be without the phone for too long, but obviously i dont want a faulty unit.
Devicewire if you are listening out there can you advise?
So it seems there are a few of us with that issue, on mine it definitely comes from the front part, not the back. I think I'll take it back and try another one, if it has the same problem I'll pass on the Cruise and get a refund, it really isn't very acceptable to have that type of problem on a €500+ device ! I don't remember reading about any such problems with the Touch or Touch Dual, HTC must have skimped on the glue this time around!
I have triesd to reproduce the screen problems, but I do hear anything at all.
Overall I really like the device, notwithstanding the slightly slow graphics when watching video (although MUCH better than my old Samsung SCH-i730).

I have it too. I noticed it after putting on the screenprotecor...and i'm suspecting it has somthing to to with it. The protector is really stiff so it may just be it making that noise....in my case at least...
That might come into play I guess, but mine really had a problem, I took it back to the shop and I had a hard time getting the guys to acknowledge it, but one of them had his own Cruise and when I pressed on the side there was no squeaking at all so that sealed the deal. Unfortunately they had no spare unit so I had to settle for a voucher...
I too have been experiencing the same from the top of the screen after long use It´s a pain, as I am really happy with the Polaris but for the money you´d expect better. I removed the screen protector to see if that was the problem but the sound is still there. It only goes away after the screen has been off for a while.
I have spoken to the shop where I bought it but they said I should get in touch with HTC, however if a lot of devices have the same problem hardly seems worth sending it away....
Anyone else have the same problem???

I Have the same problem but it comes from the screen protector, cuz I get some air between the screen and the protect.
OK... but the problem I have is definately not related to the screen protector as it´s still there without it.
No squeaks at all on the Orbit 2 - I wonder if it's confined to the TC case?
I've got the same squeeking thing with the screen, but it really isn't critical. What is really annoying is the knocking sound that the volume slider produces when shaked or just given a little finger punch. What do you guys say?Is yours fixed tight?
Same problem here. But it takes my mind off what the wife's saying when I'm on the phone to her!
Having the squeaking too, as most of you its still there without the protector
anybody get any noises from the d-pad? whenever i press left, it makes a double click (the standard click when you press in any direction, but after that, it seems to stick a little and click again as if it's sticking to something when i press down, then unsticks and makes a click when that happens). it's bugging the crap out of me and it only does it when i press left. if i press left hard, it stops doing it for 30 seconds or so.. it's not as if i spilled soda or anything on it and it is brand spanking new..
Hey all, I love the phone but I've noticed a quirk and I would like to see if anyone else has been experiencing it. When the phone vibrates sometimes there is an extra rattle, almost as if something is loose. It only rattles when its at a certain angle though, not all the time. Has anyone else experienced this with their phone? I'm trying to see if I should go exchange it or not.
For what it's worth, I haven't noticed it.
In case, out of case?
Sometimes the lip of my Body Glove case will rattle a tiny bit. Simply touching the case stops this of course, since it's not my phone but a surface adjacent to it.

Nope, out of a case. Just the bare phone.

I think I know what you're talking about. If you tap the phone does it do the same thing? If so, I did notice it in mine as well. Also, when I put it down sometimes I would hear a little vibration. I think it's just the design of the phone.
I get the rattle and it's annoying. Not going to do anything about it but it's nice to hear I'm not alone.

Is it near the camera? I can hear it as well, it sounds like when you tap near the cam it either rattles the metal backplate or it is directly hitting the camera assembly, I'd avoid doing it if I was use.
The body glove case helps, but if you tap it'll still make a noise
You're not alone. I actually noticed this shortly after I bought it. Posted about in the at&t forums. I even went to the store to play with the displays. The displays also made the same noise.
I can't post a link but if you search for "Captivate has a rattle" in the at&t Samsung forums you'll find my thread.
you are not alone... it feel like the vibrator motor is loose... it fells just like my iphone 3g... which has a motor loose ..
I hear the rattle as well. I believe its coming from the sd card tray in the back. Hopefully when putting an sd card in itll go away.
I have an SD card in and don't hear any rattles. However, I also lowered my vibration intensity a couple notches.

Tap the back next to the speaker and see if you can hear it. Hopefully having the sd in there helped.

I've never heard anything even remotely like a rattle from mine, and I have vibration intensity maxed and swype set to vibrate on keypress, so I get lots of vibration. I've had the SD card in and out of it a lot, but no difference. No vibration. Guess I got a good one.

Don't hear anything except my finger tapping the back.
Ummm Guys, sorry to rain on the parade....but if you can replicate the rattle by tapping on the speaker (which on a Galaxy S phone, Nexus One, Desire is right next to the camera), the rattle is the little Auto Focus assist system being gently lodged-dislodged (motor + spring setup).
The AF requires slight freeplay to allow it to focus in and out when using the camera.....sorry but the rattle wont go away....its also normal. Try any camera phone with AF Assist and tap near or vertically on top of the lens.... .
Personally My Nokia N82 from eons ago was the loudest of all. I havent got a Captivate (you lucky Yanks) so I could be way off the mark but my desire rattles too (as did my nexus one) when tapped or on vibrate.
Cheers
Oz
+1 auto-focus mountings.. makes sense.
For those wishing to replicate: with or without case, tap directly below the camera, and horizontally beside the speaker, with the phone near your ear. You'll hear a little tiny rattle. I didn't notice it until I went tapping away to find it.
Thanks for the replies. After tapping the back of my phone I believe I can detect a faint clicking sound. It's odd how loud that becomes when the phone vibrates, it's magnitudes louder than the normal vibration sound.
Maybe I'll go to my local electronics store and play with some models since I used to work there and I still have the connections for it.
yeah... no rattle here..
Significant rattle during vibration makes sense....its to do with the frequency of vibration of AF and phone chassis being in sync....i.e. close to resonance. Betcha its louder face up OR face down, and on a hard surface.
The other possibility is the metal battery cover vibrating as well

Hello Everyone,
I recently bought a Captivate. I noticed the same issue when using the vibrate setting on the phone - phone rings, and the vibrate is extremely loud (other people really shouldn't be able to hear it).
I thought it was that particular handset - so I went back to AT&T and exchanged it. Sure enough, this one has the same issue.
The one weird thing I've noticed is that changing the Haptic Feedback setting (the vibrate intensity for it) seems to affect the button that you use if you pull the notifications bar down. (Drop the vibrate intensity to 0, and you'll notice that the Vibrate button in the notifications bar does not vibrate when you turn it on). However, this doesn't seem to influence the way the phone vibrates when you get a call, text message, etc.
Any idea what the disconnect could be between the vibrate setting in the Notifications bar, and the actual vibrate intensity?
I'm inclined to think this is software, rather than the phone itself having a physical flaw that causes it to vibrate louder. If the setting in the notification bar didn't vary - I would be quicker to assume that it's hardware...
Dear members,
I would like to know the truth behind the issues faced by the HTC one X, which I read in many websites across the internet(and few here)
I was decided to get one for me untill last week, but the issues what I read for one X confused me.The issues that I came across was;
over heating(guess its obvious for smart phones)
Wi-fi issues(death grip issue)
screen/display flickering,
yellow spots on display,
Frequent black screens,
Restart troubles,
Music player issues(when music player stops when gallery is used)
Taiwan made phone's facing issues over Chineese made ones.
Kindly address these issues ASAP, as I had already made up my mind to go for HOX, so that I can buy one with relaxed mind...
I cant think of any other smartphones as of now.
Thanks in advance

I second this post and would really like to know how current owners are experiencing these issues.
Mine is a Rogers HTC One X.
Got it about 3 weeks ago. Just sent it in for repair, just outside the 14 day exchange range
overheating wise, yes, it can get a bit warm at use but same for any small tightly packed smartphone. I didn't have any wifi issues or any issues you had stated.
The problem with mine was holding the phone vertically. About half way down, there was a 1cm horizontal strip that did not react to touch. Just where the ok and cancel options pop up on some games/apps. You would need to rotate the screen so you could "tap" those buttons and get a reaction.
I turned on the developer mode and the mouse tracking/button press options and you can trace your finger down the screen and you can see where it stops then continues with a 1cm or so gap between where it wasn't responsive. This gap was the entire width of the screen not just a spot or two in that 1cm zone.
The phone was never dropped, bent, sat on etc. Mint screen and case, no case or touchscreen protection. This issue occurred quite suddenly about 16 days in, only noticed it when some games didn't let me exit when hitting the cancel options. Originally thought the game or the app was at issue. Then realized it was the touch screen. Did a full reset a few times, same problems. Now patiently awaiting for my phone back. Rogers phone/loaner suck as well, gave me a Nokia C3 POS as a loaner. Using my old motorola milestone instead.
Had my phone in the front pocked of my cargo shorts and rode my (pedal) bike about 4 miles... Had the screen of the phone facing against my leg. When I got home, I had 4 text asking - 2 x "what's up", "couldn't hear you" and "what did you call for"? I looked at my history and had 12 outbound calls in a 20 minute span...... Oops!
Happened all of the time with my G3. Double tap to wake ftw, not. Turning off the feature, placing it screen out, or in my pack was the way to avoid it.

how is it "butt dialed" when the phone was in your front pocket?...
Are you sure it was not the eleventh finger that did the trick?

My HTC One M8 did this some, but not much. My M9 also did this.....Probably just as bad as the MXP. I had to re-learn to put the phone *screen out* when I stuck it in my pocket and only remembered about half the time. I just hate putting my phones screen out for fear of something hitting my screen and busting it. I did this with an iPod (touch) a few years ago, leaned over a table and the screen hit the corner and busted.
Guess it's just something I'll have to learn to deal with, or get one of those phone holsters that clip to my belt............Uh, Never-mind, I'll just deal with it.

same here, had the issue with G3 ,G4, M8 and M9 . was hoping there is a better way around this but doesn't seem so !
do you guys have 1. "Wake on Approach" disabled? (its a silly feature enabled by Moto by default) 2. no screen lock? Both of those will help.
I never have this issue. Doesn't matter what I have turned on or off. I think it has more to do with a faulty proximity sensor not registering that something is blocking it thereby allowing the screen to turn on when it shouldn't!
Hey guys, I'm wondering if you're experiencing the same with your phones. My phone noticably vibrates when tapped on the back, to the point I often think I have some notification when - for example - I accidentally pat on it when in my pocket. It also gives off a faint resonating sound. Just wondering if it's a build quality fault, or a normal thing. It is pretty annoying, to the point I'm thinking of sending it to Samsung to get it checked out. The phone otherwise is sweet, but I don't think that's how a flagship should feel, it feels some kind of frail, as if something is loose inside. My friends S7 doesn't have this issue, but I'm working in a phone retail shop, and noticed at least one other device that acts the same as mine. So maybe Samsung is using two different vibration motors in S7s?
Smart Alert maybe?
Your device will vibrate when you pick it up to notify you about missed calls and messages (could be sensing the tap as being picked up)
Settings > Advanced Features > Smart Alert
I'm aware of that. It's not that the phone is vibrating. The vibration motor is not buzzing at this point, it just resonates when you pat it on the back with your hand. I can describe it best that it feels like if it had a thick loose spring inside.

My S7 is solid if I tap it, even if I tap it firmly it doesn't vibrate or resonate in any way, holding it by the edges lightly between two fingers and tapping the back or front, having it lose in my pocket and tapping it, no vibrating at all, I get the same feel if I tap my computer desk as I do if I tap the phone, solid feel.
My one is also vibrating if I tap on the backside.
Just checked both S7 we got at the store right now, one resonates, another one doesn't. Leads me to believe Samsung uses two different vibration motors in S7.
EDIT: it vibrates only when tapped on right side, mostly right top side. I guess it might also be badly adhered heat pipe...?
Nothing happens with mine (G930F) when I tap it, just feels solid
I have the same problem when tapped on the right hand side I brought two galaxy s7 mines black and the other is gold and only the back one does it
Mine SGS7 (black EU version) have the same issue. Seems like vibration motor isn't blocked or something like this. Te vibrations is most noticalbe on left top corner (from the back side) where si vibrating moror placed. Also don't know if it's just common thing on most of galaxy devices or it's stomething which should be repaired.
I don't think that's a problem or issue. I've had the same thing on my s5 and now on s7.
I think that's because of button type motors used in both devices.
This happens with my G930W S7 as well, haven't noticed any negative effects from it.
Yup, same thing happens with my s7 as well. I previously had Swiss version (manufactured around december 2016) and it was solid. Now, after changing phones to another s7, French version (manufactured around march 2017) there is a fain vibration when i tap it. My guess was that wireless charging coils were not glued very well, but I guess vibration motor makes more sense. I haven't noticed any negative effects.
I believe that vibrations are from camera. When camera isn't active OIS is disabled, so lens can move around a bit. I noticed this effect on SGS5 too.
