[Q] New joinee-About HTC one X issues - General Questions and Answers

Dear members,
I would like to know the truth behind the issues faced by the HTC one X, which I read in many websites across the internet(and few here)
I was decided to get one for me untill last week, but the issues what I read for one X confused me.The issues that I came across was;
over heating(guess its obvious for smart phones)
Wi-fi issues(death grip issue)
screen/display flickering,
yellow spots on display,
Frequent black screens,
Restart troubles,
Music player issues(when music player stops when gallery is used)
Taiwan made phone's facing issues over Chineese made ones.
Kindly address these issues ASAP, as I had already made up my mind to go for HOX, so that I can buy one with relaxed mind...
I cant think of any other smartphones as of now.
Thanks in advance

I second this post and would really like to know how current owners are experiencing these issues.

Mine is a Rogers HTC One X.
Got it about 3 weeks ago. Just sent it in for repair, just outside the 14 day exchange range
overheating wise, yes, it can get a bit warm at use but same for any small tightly packed smartphone. I didn't have any wifi issues or any issues you had stated.
The problem with mine was holding the phone vertically. About half way down, there was a 1cm horizontal strip that did not react to touch. Just where the ok and cancel options pop up on some games/apps. You would need to rotate the screen so you could "tap" those buttons and get a reaction.
I turned on the developer mode and the mouse tracking/button press options and you can trace your finger down the screen and you can see where it stops then continues with a 1cm or so gap between where it wasn't responsive. This gap was the entire width of the screen not just a spot or two in that 1cm zone.
The phone was never dropped, bent, sat on etc. Mint screen and case, no case or touchscreen protection. This issue occurred quite suddenly about 16 days in, only noticed it when some games didn't let me exit when hitting the cancel options. Originally thought the game or the app was at issue. Then realized it was the touch screen. Did a full reset a few times, same problems. Now patiently awaiting for my phone back. Rogers phone/loaner suck as well, gave me a Nokia C3 POS as a loaner. Using my old motorola milestone instead.

Squeaking noise at top of the screen ?

After the squeaking back cover of the Touch Dual, another noisy HTC unit ! At least my test unit it seems...has anyone else noticed that when you tap at the top of the screen, say the x box, when you let it go there is a noise of something coming unstuck/unglued ?
If you swipe your thumb from let to right applying some gentle pressure it is event more obvious. Anyone else or is my screen maybe not properly glued on...
I listened really closely, and the only sound I could detect was my oily finger coming off the screen! You may have a defective unit because I don't seem to detect the problem you are talking about. Hope this helps!
Yes, thanks, will need to take it back then, just my luck !
You did apply some moderate pressure didn't you ? It's particularly noticeable around the loudspeaker and camera openings. Or it maybe static I'm hearing, doubt it since I don't have the noise at the bottom of the screen.
GpsPasSion
i tried several times but there's no noise.
Maybe u should check it with HTC or the store where u got it?
I
I have the same problem. On the top of the screen only
Rather annoying isn't it ? I have it on the sides a bit too, it seems to be worse when the screen is hot. Possibly the joint between the "touch" screen and the frame.
I guess I'll take it back but I think the guys are going to look at me "sideways" over there ;-) It seems to me the quality of HTC phones has been going down a bit lately, prices stay high though. I wonder if all the Cruise devices aren't going to develop that problem over time...
Hi,
I've got a similar problem. It also happens when I firmly press X, but the noise comes from the back cover (the antenna-box ) and it's because the back cover (top, not the battery cover) is not stuck tight enough (left side, so right side if you're looking from the front). Annoying? Maybe. Deffective? Not really I'll live with it
i have the same issue with the screen, i have done about 20 minutes of "up close and personal" tapping, pushing, etc and it is definately the screen...
not so worrying right now, BUT if it is loose now, how will it be in a few months.
i had this same problem when buying a Nokia a while back, I went through 4 of them sitting in the store and they all had the same problem, so i gave up and bought a different phone.
i wonder how Devicewire will handle this? as i really dont want to, nor can i be without the phone for too long, but obviously i dont want a faulty unit.
Devicewire if you are listening out there can you advise?
So it seems there are a few of us with that issue, on mine it definitely comes from the front part, not the back. I think I'll take it back and try another one, if it has the same problem I'll pass on the Cruise and get a refund, it really isn't very acceptable to have that type of problem on a €500+ device ! I don't remember reading about any such problems with the Touch or Touch Dual, HTC must have skimped on the glue this time around!
I have triesd to reproduce the screen problems, but I do hear anything at all.
Overall I really like the device, notwithstanding the slightly slow graphics when watching video (although MUCH better than my old Samsung SCH-i730).
T
I have it too. I noticed it after putting on the screenprotecor...and i'm suspecting it has somthing to to with it. The protector is really stiff so it may just be it making that noise....in my case at least...
That might come into play I guess, but mine really had a problem, I took it back to the shop and I had a hard time getting the guys to acknowledge it, but one of them had his own Cruise and when I pressed on the side there was no squeaking at all so that sealed the deal. Unfortunately they had no spare unit so I had to settle for a voucher...
I too have been experiencing the same from the top of the screen after long use It´s a pain, as I am really happy with the Polaris but for the money you´d expect better. I removed the screen protector to see if that was the problem but the sound is still there. It only goes away after the screen has been off for a while.
I have spoken to the shop where I bought it but they said I should get in touch with HTC, however if a lot of devices have the same problem hardly seems worth sending it away....
Anyone else have the same problem???

I Have the same problem but it comes from the screen protector, cuz I get some air between the screen and the protect.
OK... but the problem I have is definately not related to the screen protector as it´s still there without it.
No squeaks at all on the Orbit 2 - I wonder if it's confined to the TC case?
I've got the same squeeking thing with the screen, but it really isn't critical. What is really annoying is the knocking sound that the volume slider produces when shaked or just given a little finger punch. What do you guys say?Is yours fixed tight?
Same problem here. But it takes my mind off what the wife's saying when I'm on the phone to her!
Having the squeaking too, as most of you its still there without the protector
anybody get any noises from the d-pad? whenever i press left, it makes a double click (the standard click when you press in any direction, but after that, it seems to stick a little and click again as if it's sticking to something when i press down, then unsticks and makes a click when that happens). it's bugging the crap out of me and it only does it when i press left. if i press left hard, it stops doing it for 30 seconds or so.. it's not as if i spilled soda or anything on it and it is brand spanking new..

Display problem (broken??) - HTC support & warranty

Hello everybody,
I want to tell you what happened to my Touch Pro this evening:
On the display (also if the device is off) appeared a small rectangle in the center (about 2x3 cm) made from bubbles. Well, not bubbles, I’m quite sure that are liquid crystal. If I put pressure with the finger the “bubbles” move and follow the pressure also out form the edge of this small rectangle)
As I can reach a decent camera I’ll post some photos of this rectangle.
The strange thing is that the device didn’t fall in ground, didn’t have temperature range; nothing hit it and so on. It was in my pocket well safe!!
If display is on the problem is quite invisible, if display is "black" or off... ....Grrrr!!!
Now, my questions:
1) Warranty is also for display?
2) How warranty works in Italy? Where should I ship the item? Which times?
3) If I have ship the device, sould I load the original rom & radio? Where can I find the rom?
Certainly, first thing I’m going to do Monday morning Is to call Italy HTC’s support number…
Thanks a regards,
Andrea
The "oil spot" problem isn't a broken display. It's the touch sensitive layer, which has been subject to too much pressure (carrying it in your pants pocket, etc). This has been happening on a bunch of Touch Pros and Diamonds. You should still be able to use it just fine, but touch sensitivity may get worse over time.
HTC may or may not be willing to replace it for you (and if so, they may or may not charge some kind of fee). Although it's just a hardware change, you should probably recover stock SoftSPL for warranty.
I have the "oil patch" problem with my Touch Pro. Unfortunately when I first noticed, HTC would not fix it for me, so I still have the oil patch on my screen, although everything still works fine so far. If it gets worse, I plan on buying a replacement LCD/touchscreen and replacing it myself:
http://mobile.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=03799
I've noticed this problem on quite a few of the original touch / elf / 6900 phones, including my old personal phone which I used in this condition for many many months without every having any actual issues. It is strange but like you said: pretty much not noticeable when on and probably just best left alone unless it really bothers you.
I have the same spot but it is not causing any problems that I noticed but there is many who have this spot in the diamond forum.
today i also noticed this on my touch pro..i sort of fell asleep on it and i think i might have messed it up
i can see that oil spot that you mention but only if i tilt the phone at a certain angle and only if the screen is off. When the display is on i can see everything properly
The problem:
Touch function is messed up badly..i tested in notes application and sometimes when i press at a point X the dot appears somewhere else on the screen...Internet browsing is a pain in the ass like this...
i also noticed one thing..i took the stylus out, put the phone next to my ear and i tapped at the area outside the oil mark. I get the normal soft sound and pressure feeling as it should be.. When i do the same at the oil spot its rather hard feeling and sound..
i will contact HTC on monday and see what they say about it..
otherwise i will get a replacement for 159euros (inc installation) from pdatech...
Happened to my Fuze...
Happened to me too 60 days into owning it. I carry all my phones in my pocket, but have never had this problem. I brought it into the at&t store that I got it at and they never saw it either (it is only a few months old for them and have not had any complanints yet). They were going to replace it for me but were sold out. They had me call the warranty department and they replaced it with a refurbished unit (although all of their refurbished units are brand new as of this point because the phone is so new for at&t).
If you got your phone through at&t call warranty support and they will swap it out if the unit is under warranty (which being 2 months old at this point it will be).
This happened to my Fuze as well. I tried to call AT&T support and visit a corp store but they ruled it as physical damage, thus voiding my warranty. Apparently the "crystals" under the display are cracked/damaged, causing the rectangle. Who knows.
has anyone successfully sent a touch pro raphael to HTC repair shop to be repaired under warranty with this issue?? its really bothering me that i can see it and i feel like it will affect my phone eventually...
Add me to the list too.. I am going to try to get mine replaced through Sprint if it gets bad. I hope they know this is an issue/defect and not something like water damage

I believe this is a design/quality issue. I posted about this same problem here some weeks back. HTC will not repair under warranty, paid in total 77 pounds to get this fix from them. I believe they are aware this is a problem because in the warranty book, screens are not covered even when its not your fault. They call it Newton ring .
Funny thing that a lot of people started noticing this issue very recently: as if a cheap component came to the end of its life cycle.. propably in my head only..
Anyway: I noticed this on my TP a few days ago and I'm going to drop my phone to the local service. It's the second time in just over 4 months.. crappy build quality really
also: Diamond users have had the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439410
Local HTC service got back to me: they're insisting that it's a 'mechanical fault, not covered by the manufacturers warranty'. Then it gets better: the estimated repair cost is 275 euros (that's roughly 355 USD) for the replacement of the display and front cover.
Naturally I'm going to challenge this as the oily patch appeared over night when the phone was sitting on a table.
not that im questioning what happened but personally i find it difficult to imagine how it can get the oil spot just by sitting on the table :S
normally you would expect this after exserting enough force on the screen. Personally that was my case. I sort of fell asleep on the phone and might have hit it on the metal edges of the bed..anyway i got mine replaced from pdatech.nl for ~170euros including installation costs..
Well if I had to venture a guess, I'd say that the 2h navigation on the night before took its toll on the display and during the night it just spread out and became visible..
how dodgy. I have been getting this problem, but funnily enough I thought it was due to air pressure, because it happened to mine when i was on the plane.
anyway i was just coming home from someplace real hot (40C), and it kept giving me the screen alignment problem for a few weeks, kept thinking i was pressing the top right corner of the screen regardless where I pressed. However, found that putting slight pressure on the screen for a few hours (i.e. a weight) fixed the screen alignment problem temporarily (for a few hours).
Anyway, just came back on the plane from someplace real cold (-10C), now the problem has ceased.
???? air pressure? or temperature variation?
I don't have the screen oil spot problem you guys have however.
Here's to it lasting a little while longer...
I asked for a more detailed report of the fault and the service just said that 'It's a fault defined as OOW (Out Of Warranty) by the manufacturer' and that there's nothing they can do but charge me for the repair. Note: they're not even putting the blame on me saying 'abuse/misuse'!
Now I'm going to go to the seller (expansys) and hope that they have some interest in keeping customers happy (and maybe have more business with them in the future!) and make things right (=fix my phone or replace it).
Wow, and I thought I was the only one. I've noticed the same oily stain after falling asleep on the phone. I've had it for a month now, and I've gotten used to it. It does not seem to affect the sensitivity or the accuracy on the touch screen. At least not in my case.
Does anyone have any experience replacing the touch screen by themselves? Is it a complicated operation? I would greatly appreciate a 10-step-guide on how to replace the screen, if it's going to be an issue over time.
disassembly guide
check out the wiki of xda click on service manuals and look for raphael. its on page 19 of the PDF
I noticed this issue on my Touch Pro today morning! I used my phone last evening and everything was fine. Now the touch screen doesn`t work at all. Great.
Same issue
I have also been victim of the oily patch.
I have had the Sprint Touch Pro since November and it just happened within the past 2 weeks.
Maybe this is due to not putting the screen protector on the phone.
I'm going to try visiting the Sprint Repair Center to replace it and then put the InvisibleShield Screen Protector on it.

Problem after touchscreen replacement (original one)

Please help me with this touch screen problem:
In my HTC sensation 4G touchscreen has been replaced (together with display) and as a result I've noticed that device no longer registers fast swipes. No lag or other problems, just when you move finger fast - touchscreen fails to register it. In multitouch tests circle disappears during fast movements and in games like fruit ninja there is no line after the finger. Guys who helped me tried several digitizers they had in stock and all of them had this same problem.
My original digitizer and these ones are probably different models because mine was T-mobile and these have HTC written in the middle.
So I wanted to ask did somebody stumble upon this issue and is there a solution?
Or is it possible that all new ones they've tried are bad?

i have similar issue. my screen doesn't register any touch on the left half, unless i touch the right half a few times first...:/ my digitizer got changed as well. but after that all is fine...only after i turn off the screen, then on again.....it's a little annoying, but not making my device useless at least.
as for to what's the cause, possibly each phone needs a special digitzer...as for the solution, i tried many, nothing worked...
I read of someone with a similar problem, they took screen apart again and found the wire was slightly pinched, they said they carefully put wires back in place and paid extra Attention to the wires and problem was solved. Now, I personally have not tried it but I did read this fix. Maybe it might help, worth a try? Hope this helps!

I'm on the same boat. Dropped it and cracked the screen. So I bought a replacement screen and replaced it myself. Its the one with just the HTC in the middle. (I'm T-mobile) Well now, like yours, it sucks at registering touch accurately. I have to press solidly on the screen to swipe screens or to open apps. Texting sucks because i have to press on each letter good or else it picks the wrong letter. I've searched for a solution as many have had this issue but seems like they just returned it for a new one. I cant since i replaced the screen and voided my warranty. I have taken it apart twice and carefully reassembled it making sure everything is good and snug and in the right place.....Still no love....Sucks! If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated as i have hit a dead end with this issue. Thanks.

this is quite different problem. Sensitivity of my display is OK unless you move fast. In your case it seems to be the problem of this exact screen. Try downloading SGS Touchscreen Booster from Play Store and play with settings.

Does your 8X body creak/snap? See light where screen meets body/screen not flush?

Im wondering if other people's 8X's creak when squeezing the phone sideways or on the screen after a few minutes of use? Also I can see light leaking from the bottom where the screen meets the body of the phone. Want to know if I should get an exchange tomorrow at Microsoft Store since after that I'm pretty far from any Microsoft Stores until I'm past the return date.
My volume rocker squeaks a little and also moves back and fourth when I shake the phone. At the bottom of the phone on either side of the charging port there are light leaks, and on the left and right bottom sides too, which is annoying in the dark. Tempted to take mine back to Phones4u and ask for a new one..
Got a new phone and its much better. I didn't notice if light leaks through bottom anymore, but the screen is definitely more flush though not PERFECTLY flush.
Much more solid phone and power button also has a click and is easier to press now. No more creaks now.

I'll go and exchange mine then I think. Can you take a picture of it in the dark to show if you have any light leaks and post it up? I'd be very appreciative.
My power button feels a bit odd too, it doesn't have a click and feels squidgy, was thinking that earlier. Might have a go on the replacement in store and look at it in the dark to check for light leaks.
Edit: I've attached the best picture I could get of my light leaks/screen fitting. This is with brightness at max, taken with my DSLR. Was yours this bad? I'd be interested to see if this is an issue with other 8X's or just ours.
I haven't had any problems like that with mine yet. I started using a case after the first week though. Hopefully a replacement will fix the issue for you. That's a lot of light coming through.

It is, it's awful. I'm kind of regretting getting the 8X over the 920 to be honest, the blacks seem very light on the screen and the colour seem very washed out (maybe it's just coming from an AMOLED screen that is doing it), might see what they can do for me in store today. We'll see.
Took it back today, they didn't want to replace it but they did in the end. Tried out two brand new Yellow ones in store, both had the exact same issue. Tried a black one, and it's perfect, no light leakage at all. Maybe it's an issue with the Yellow one. Poor effort HTC.
Accepted the Black one as a replacement, but I'm trying to sell it and get a 920 like I should have in the beginning. Doh!

Meh. I have the black one and its an issue all right. Yesterday, my screen totally died. Went to HTC service center today, and the light leakage and inperfect screen flush were listed as "possible user damage". If they decide to classify it as user damage, i'll be pissed.

I went with the 920, had screen flickering issues and random rebooting on it, and all 3 of my replacements. Gave up and got a Note II. lol.
Yes, when I had mine it creaked and the camera lens moved around a little, and the screen was a tad squishy on the bottom right...HTC consistently has awesome designs but
There is always something wrong with their build quality that is maddening.

Crack over Speaker holes
Hi guys, just to add to the build quality problems... I've just had a replacement from Phones4U of my yellow 8X. After just under a month of gentle and careful ownership i noticed a crack appeared over (and through) the holes on the back for the speaker. The crack got bigger over about a week before i had chance to go ask about it in store. to be fair to P4U, the person i spoke to was great and they swapped it out in store, even though i'd originally bought it online.
Came back to this thread to mention it and now having read everything else i'm noticing a bit of creaking when i squeeze the sides and both phones had had the squishy screen edge picture thing which i first read about being a problem on the ONE X. Not sure if that's just normal anyway though really. Oh and neither of my power buttons have clicked and i find myself missing my easy to press home button on my old iPhone 3GS!
Same again!

Well after a month (again) my replacement 8X has developed the crack in the same place.
Phones 4U are gonna swap it for a black model this time, i'm wondering if it's the yellow plastic specifically that's bad. They were less cheery and helpful with the exchange this time stating that because it's a cosmetic fault they don't usually replace them and the first time was 'a goodwill gesture'.
I'm starting to wish i'd just gone for the extra price bump for the Lumia 920 instead now. Guess i'm lucky they've replaced them at all though but i still don't think a phone should crack of it's own free will after 4 weeks! http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/advanced/drive.png
They also said it's not a widespread fault that they've been made aware of, i was actually hoping someone else on here would have had the same experience to help me confirm it wasn't just bad luck or whatever. I guess everyone else just has the corners rubbing off instead!
I guess I got lucky, my blue 8X seems pretty solid and all the buttons are clicky.

[Q] Ghost Touch issues fix?

I bought this tablet off Amazon's Warehouse Deals. It came to me dinged and scratched up, but operable. I noticed the touch screen was a little off and would report false touches occasionally, but I didn't think it was anything to worry about. Like a kid in a candy store, I raced to get a new ROM so I could optimize this thing. In the process I unlocked the bootloader, rooted and installed PACman ROM. Ghost touches disappeared--gone for like 3 whole days. I'm ecstatic, and falling madly in love with this tablet. Then I notice the ghost touches coming back after the 5th day I have had it. Now its showing about 3 ghost touches almost constantly in one vertical line (in landscape) on the right side of the screen. Pretty much totally inoperable. I have scoured all ends of google, and most of the time it spits me out here, searching thread after thread of nothing but "RMA it". My questions are:
Is there any fix to this besides shelling out money for a new digitizer? Is that the general consensus that the digitizer is the root of the problem? I know I'm able to return the product, but does anyone know if Amazon is going to give me grief over an unlocked product that was a scratch-and-dent deal anyway? Any way I can re-lock the device? I've seen multiple threads with replies saying "lol didn't you read the blah blah? no way bro", but these were posted a couple months ago. Maybe something new has come up. I guess I just feel sorta rooked because I bought a defective piece of hardware, and now I can't get a refund just because I modified the software.

Same thing happened to my brother's tf300t. He returned it as defective, but I guess you could replace the digitizer. As far as I saw, it was a hardware problem, so it requires a hardware fix. Sorry

I got a similar situation in the last two weeks. The problem I have is that my TF300T is keeping rebooting by itself. I've googled it and people say most likely it's a hardware issue. I am trying to find a way to see if the device can be reset to factory condition so that I can return it for repair. Looks like we are on a same boat. Hopefully I can find a way to do so.
Just an update on my issue, in case anyone else stumbles across this particular problem. So far I have gone almost a week with no ghost touches. I popped off the back of the device (three guitar picks did the trick), and disconnected the digitizer ribbon cables and reseated them. Problem vanished. My best guess is that the keyboard dock puts odd pressure on the device. That mixed with rough handling is bound to cause some problems.

It could be the power button is jammed? I know mine is really touchy (all I do is tap it with my stylus and screen turns on/off. Good luck!

Thank you. I just got mine from Groupon as refurbed.. (they did a ****ty job, apparently) Ghost issue about 2 days after getting it out of the box. By then already unlocked and flashed CWM.. sigh.
I'll try your fix tonight. Any chance there is an image of the right connector/ribbon?
Hopefully the image quality isnt too bad. I took an exacto knife and gently pried up the black foam squares, set them aside and worked my magic. Hope this helps. Just be careful with the ribbon cable (duh). Hope this helps!

Thank you! I'll try this adventure later this week.
Did this today.. So far, 20 mins on it, and no issues. Typically took about 5-7 mins before. So, crossing my fingers this is gone.
THANK YOU! I can go back to enjoying my tablet
Im in the same boat with this Ghost Touches Issues, and its getting worse, sometimes im working at college and this Ghost appears and the tablet gets almost unusable, Only the Keyboard Dock saves me.
Please if you can give me more detailed instructions i think i would be brave enought to do this surgery to my tf300t, merry christmas!

i just noticed that when having a ghost touches attack, if i put pressure con the tablet, lime trying to bend it, the touches vanish.
I also have the ghost touches but it seems to only happen when the screen is dirty. As soon as I clean it off, they go away. Would a good screen protector help with that? I may go ahead and try taking off the back and messing with it.

I thought mine was fixed, but doesnt seem to be. I technically didnt remove the connectors.. I was nervous, they are WAY fragile. I simply unlocked and pressed firmly on them to attempt to reseat them..
Problem seemed to go away until I used Chrome. Chrome is what seems to trigger odd behaviors for me. I may try another browser and see if it still happens.
I've been dealing with this off and on for about 8 months; asus HAS to be aware of it as my tab has been back twice for this issue (out of warranty now) and I take advantage of their complaint form every month or so.
Here's what I've been working off of (based on personal experience/experimentation):
Re-seating the cables might help for a day or less, but isn't a permanent fix. I even went as far as strategic pieces of tape to hold the flex cables in place and tape across the connectors to encourage them to stay closed.
The first time I popped the back off the larger of the three flexes (with the silver wrap) had partially worked out of the connector on the driver board. Re-seated it and problem disappeared for about a day.
The large copper heat spreader was basically spot contacting the CPU and really wasn't touching the smaller ancillary chips (unit had been running warm for a few months, thought that might make things wonky). I pressed heat shield back down to ensure adhesion, and slightly molded the copper around each chip. Ghost touch gone for two days, unit way cooler running than before.
Here's the interesting one to me. Tonight I noticed that even just hovering my finger close to the screen I can get the 'touch dot' to show; this got me thinking about static. I held the tab in a way that at least one finger of one hand was touching the screen, like towards an edge (out of the active area) while using the other hand to touch the screen. Seemed like one hand was grounding the screen, like a charge couldn't dissipate from the surface.
Isn't this a "capacitive touch' screen? Could it be a matter of grounding?
I too purchased this tablet and dock from Groupon about 4 weeks ago or so as a manufacture refurb. My tablet does the same thing. After about an hour or so use most of the time it starts randomly acting like the screen is being touched. And it appears to only be in the upper right corner area (kinda where the lock screen pattern show up when you unlock it) in landscape mode. Sometimes it may take a little longer of use before it happens. It happens regardless if the dock is plugged in or not. I have figured that if I lock the screen and wait a few seconds and then unlock it. The ghost touches are gone for a while. I first began thinking it may have been a OS issue and hough about rooting and putting a custom rom on it. But from what I have seen on the web it doesnt seem to matter whether its rooted or not. So should I RMA it back or has any one had permenant luck with reseating the cable?
Thanks

I'd try reseating the ribbons. I kind of doubt it would solve the problem since it's a refurbished with a latent defect. Bad ribbons would strike at random but do not wait for a while before acting up. Look at the glass surface under a magnifying glass and bright light. Hairline cracks cause this after the tab heats up, but you can't always detect them. RMA would be the safe option unless you're really pressed for time.
Ghost touches are back. Noticed I had alot of them when my storage was full. Used a previous recovery (same ROM, just earlier date with less junk installed) and it cut down the frequency of them happening. This is so weird.
I had those ghost touches when 4.2 roms started (CM and AOKP and all of the rest of them. Then someone, I don't remember who had compiled rom with decreased touchscreen sensitivity and ghosting was gone. I think they started with PAC or AOKP, I really don't remember.
Then I went to 4.3 and 4.4 roms and I didn't have one single ghost touch since then. I do noticed sometimes when I hover finger over screen it is registered as touch, but ghosting by itself didn't occur on those roms.
one cent fix
I have an ugly, but effective solution working on my pad right now. It has been in place for about three or four months.
Holding in landscape mode, pulled the bottom left corner back slightly and inserted a penny between the back and the lcd. This put enough torque on the screen to kill all of the ghost touches and it still fits into the keyboard dock. There is an ugly gap where the penny is, but it is now fully functional.
Hope this helps some of you
