Xperia Z3 display burn in - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
I went to a local store to see and do some testing on xperia Z3. As soon as I opened the camera i saw some letters and image of a woman burned in display and I was like wtf is this. Then I entered the display test to see if that image is really burned in display...and it turns out it is, and it is visible only in grey color... How is this possible? I thought that LCD display can't be burned...
See the picture below.

Honestly, I've never before heard of LCD burn in. I mean, wtf??? :S

Its probably an image retention, it can be eliminated using a color test tool which flashes various colors, many are on app store.
This is not AMOLED so it should not be possible (I mean not permanent). I have seen similar effect on my old G2 when a replacement (repair shop)LCD went bad though. So do not worry, its probably just a bad unit.

My goes into daydream when docked (usually when asleep or at work). No burn in yet

[Q] "squares" signs on the Xoom screen?

Hey everyone,
I just noticed something weird on the screen of my xoom (with the screen off it's much more visible). I can see some strange "squares" filling the whole screen when looking at it from a low angle and I can't remember if it was there since I got th device... so I don't know wheter it's normal or not. Do you see such signs on your xoom too?? Or should I ask for a replacing unit? Mmm.
What I see looks slightly like this: h**p://ny-image0.etsy.com/il_170x135.214590012.jpg (sorry, can't post external links yet)
I hope someone can help me
Thanks!
Yuvi
I havnt seen your picture but does it look like its image, as in displayed on the pixels or physical. It could st be the mesh of te touch panel, for e.g. on my desire I can see a diamond shaped mesh in sun light. Can't see anything on my xoom screen though, but its got the crappy factory screen cover on still.
Macbots drool as I XOOM through the Galaxy to my hearts Desire on the back of a Droid.
Yeah it's there on mine too, I also noticed it when I first got it. I'm not 100% sure what it is, but I'm assuming it's related to the capacitive screen.
Its the touch screen digitizer.

Thanks for the info. Do you think then that it's normal that it's visible?
I searched around and found this link h**p://ezinearticles.com/?Touchscreen-Digitizer---Symptoms-and-Cheap-Replacements&id=6047548 where it says:
Usually, the digitizer is not visible unless the screen has been damaged or cracked.

It's normal that you should see a glint of it in light, don't worry about it, nothing wrong with it unless u can see it straight on in any light.

We have 4 Xoom's in our office and you can see it on all of them when the screen is off - and the light is on. But we are software developers, we live in the dark so it's hard to see most of the time.

[Q] Screen

Hello.
I reccently bought a NVIDIA Shield Tablet, and after 2 days i had it replaced becase the screen kind of had a "brownish" color tone on one of the bezels. The new one they gave me does not have that problem but the screen is different. When turned off you can see kind of a squared patern on it, and when on you can see that patern on some viewing angles. Is this possible?
Hope to get a quick awnser so i can present this complaint on the seller.
I'm pretty sure you're talking about the digitizer matrix. Is it really visible under bright light at about a 45°angle. Lots of little horizontal striations as well reflecting off the glass?

That's it. But the first one i got, i'm 99% sure it didn't had that. I believe it was a more recent model because it already came with lollypop instaled.
But tell me is it normal that screen on the Shield?
Thanks

Z5 Display problems brightness/illumination

Hi all,
i got a problem with my display.
The brightness/illumination on display when displaying content with white background is from what I see not correct.
A certain part in the middle of my display is clearly more illuminated then the rest. But only when showing the color white.
I did the diagnosis test in the menus and here it occurred again.
Does anybody have the same issue?
Is this a display problem so I have to change my phone? Or is this just a calibration problem?
Thanks in advance
I have the same problem on my z5 Dual. White backgrounds and the screen brightness increases. Not sure why this is.

Does it do the same in manual brightness mode? If so, you probably got a faulty screen .

If so yes in manual mode too
Here i made a photo of my display.

I have exactly the same white spot on my black Z5, even in the same location. Very annoying, especially when scrolling through Facebook, Twitter and other apps with white background. On my iPhone 6S which I also use the screen is perfect.

You got a bright patch in the middle too - interesting. Maybe you could take this picture again vertically (without tilt & finger smudges) in a dark room ? I never saw 100% uniform white on any LCD & Amoled mobile screen, but yours don't look acceptable.

But this is definitely a defect screen. The bright patch in the middle is really annoying when scrolling
I returned mine today, the bright patch in the center together with all other issues was just too much. Got an S6 Edge+ instead, same weight but much larger and much better looking screen.
I have the same issue, but Sonys repair shop say there is nothing wrong which I refuse to accept. See my reply in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/help/xperia-z5-backlight-unevenness-t3229903

I'm in Singapore and on my second Z5 and there is still this unevenness in the backlight. The first set was more obvious and in the middle which was really irritating. This second one has two minor spots but they sort of form a line to the middle of the screen. It's kind of disappointing that the QC level of this product is so ****ty. Two straight out of shrink-wrapped boxes!
They are also from two revisions; the tray is different on both of mine... on the first set it was stupid with the microsim and sd slot on opposite sides meaning you had to slide one in half way to keep the sim card in before putting in the SD card. The second one made more sense with both the sim card and sd card on the same side.
I'm still pondering if I should bring it down to the telco to make another change...sigh.
guys my z5 had display but no backlight, I have bypassed the "V" and "A" both fuses still theres no backlight can anyone help?

Something strange with the screen, need your advise

Hi,
I got my S6 4 days ago and so far I'm really happy with it.
I have a tiny thing with my screen, can't even call it by a name and definitely don't know if it is an issue, so I'll try to describe it.
I noticed it by a mistake... after I got it, I opened the device, played with it to drain the battery in order to fully charge it.
When it went to 5% the device has reduced the brightness automatically to save the battery and than it appeared...
A one, look a like white pixel, somewhere around the middle of the screen that I didn't (and couldn't) notice before.
It stayed there no matter what i did or in which app I used.
After I got to 1% I plugged it to the power to charge it and than, when the brightness was automatically got brighter, it looked like
It disappeared... all looked fine.
After playing with it, I can summarize that I can clearly see this white pixel in 3 occasions:
1. When closing the screen, it appears for a millisecond on the black, like flashing and than the screen is shut off.
2. When opening the screen, the same, for a millisecond, like flashing.
3. When reducing the brightness.
In addition, if I am really trying, I can barely see it even in almost full brightness but just because I know it is there.
I understand that it is always there and because the brightness is high I can't almost see it.
I can say for sure that no one can see it if I won't point on it or mention it, even when closing the screen, you won't see it
unless you know it's there and you saw it after reducing the brightness.
Another strange thing (or maybe not) is that I took screenshots so I will be able to show it to you but it is not appearing over it
Even on a black screen - saw it but it is not there in the picture.
I can live with it, unless it is something can effect in the future. this is my only worry.
I know that the easy way is to go with the warranty, but as there are other issues with the screen like pinkish/yellow/green
Maybe if it's not an issue, better to leave it like that.
I really will appreciate your advise and opinion.
Dial *#0*#. Go Red, Green, Blue, Dimming. If the dot it's still visible in any of the tests you might have a dead pixel.

Did it, and pretty much the same as I described.
Red, Green, Blue - Nothing
Dimming - See it just after dimming is happening, meaning just after the second click (on first click see nothing).
So, it's dead? half dead?
Can it be worse?
Like I wrote, it is bother me just because:
1. I know it's there
2. Mostly because I'm afraid how it will effect in the future or if it means that my screen is defect.
What do you think?
Thanks for your help.
This is a strange issue, normally the pixel is either dead or not, whats even stranger is that you and others are suffering from dead pixels, i tought this was a thing of the past with oled screens but clearly im wrong.
I have 1 suggestion for you, put on your google chrome browser in your phone, a very dark gray (not black) picture and see if you can spot that pixel in that background and report back please, while viewing the picture, play with the brightness, put it manual on max manual on medium and manual on low, be sure to check it in a dark-ish environment.
Same same.
In a room with regular lights:
Can spot it on full or 6/8 contrast just because I know it's there and even than it is really hard to notice it.
When put it on medium it is more visible but I'm not so sure that in "regular" looking someone will see it unless he will look for it or by a mistake it will jump on his eyes.
When put it in lowest - it is very clear and shine.
In a dark room:
Can spot is all the time but:
On full or 6/8 contrast it is noticed but not shine. like a brighter gray.
On medium or the lowest contrast - it is very visible - clear and shine.
Was your S6 ever opened? ) Maybe you have a small piece of dust under the glass? Screen protector? Try to check if it's visible in direct sunlight with the screen off.

It wasn't open, it is brand new.
I have a glass screen protector - can something like dust cause this kind of an issue? I don't think so (bit don't know of course) as if so I would see it all the time + it wasn't like showing/glowing for millisecond when closing the screen.
Doesn't' it?
Never leave your battery die! This is a common mistake people make. Lithium ion batteries needs to be charged as often as possible never leave it die as it will deteriorate the battery.
That strange pixel will probably settle after some use. The pinkish colour on the screen seems like a lot of people have that problem. That would be the only reason I would send that back for warranty
Hi,
I think that it is indeed a dead pixel. However as your phone has such high resolution and pixel density, I think it is harder to see sometimes.
Regarding the future of this problem, I don't think it will affect you more than this. I've owned some devices with dead pixels and never ever they gave me problems (my good ol Nintendo DS had 2 haha, I've been playing it since 2006 IIRC). But if you want professional guidance, maybe it's a good idea to take the phone to a Samsung Technical Center or something like that and show them the dead pixel (or try), and also talk about the pinkish screen.
All the best,
~Lord

Thanks for your help.
I went to the local Samsung store and it is indeed a dead pixel (or whatever) - They gave me a brand new device.
Regarding the battery, thanks for the information, I wasn't aware of it at all, I did leave it to die at first use as I was away, but anyway, even without knowing it, Today I charged it at around 30%
as usually I'm not waiting for it to die, but from now on I will give it more attention.
Thanks all.

Weird display phenomenon

Now this really isn't an issue at all but it was pointed out by my friend. There may be other ways of noticing the same but here's how I do it.
Sit in a dark room, as dark as possible (best at night).
Increase the brightness to maximum.
Open any video on MX Player, pause it and zoom out (decrease video size) as much as possible.
Observe the corners around the chin of the device. You should see some light leaking through.
Now of course this isn't an issue you'd encounter normally but it just kinda freaked us out. Any idea what might be causing it? I have no technological knowledge about displays except for the fact that pixels are turned off for black areas in AMOLED displays. We don't have navigation keys backlight either.

There should be no light leak/bleed on an AMOLED screen phone, that is common for IPS screens.
Did you get the phone from the official site?

Doubt it's possible to have "rogue" pixels but I will have to see for myself when mine arrives. But my friend who has it never complained about it, so I have a feeling only a certain batch of them might have this issue.
There also might be a chance it's related to software, so did you try using another rom?

It certainly is weird. I mean that light bleed doesn't exactly appear to be "rogue" pixels either. Plus it's rather too dim to be noticed unless you're sitting in an absolutely dark room with your brightness maxed out and about 75% of the screen totally black (which would rarely ever happen). I believe it could be possible that every unit has this but never really has been noticed by anyone.
The issue isn't that great for me to switch to another ROM and test it. Just wanted to bring this to everyone's notice. I'm on OOS 5.1.11 (rooted)
Yes, I ordered 2 and they were both defect so I sent them back. I did not send them back because of this tho, however i also recognized that both of them had really bad uniformity issues and it looked like the edges were bleeding. I observed that on a white background. I am living in germany and ordered from amazon, the second one got dust in it's front camera lense, when it arrived and the first one was emitting a loud static noise, like coil whine. It's insane, I just want a proper working phone. Not sure, whether I should order a 3rd one.

Wow that's a really big let down on Amazon's part to send defective units, and that too twice! However, I checked my screen for any such uniformity issues both on black and white but didn't find any such except for this one. And I repeat again, this is barely noticeable and is visible only when you're in absolute dark, with maximum brightness on black screen.
Although such a thing is ignorable but it's something which isn't really expected from OnePlus.
