Hey everyone,
I just noticed something weird on the screen of my xoom (with the screen off it's much more visible). I can see some strange "squares" filling the whole screen when looking at it from a low angle and I can't remember if it was there since I got th device... so I don't know wheter it's normal or not. Do you see such signs on your xoom too?? Or should I ask for a replacing unit? Mmm.
What I see looks slightly like this: h**p://ny-image0.etsy.com/il_170x135.214590012.jpg (sorry, can't post external links yet)
I hope someone can help me
Thanks!
Yuvi
I havnt seen your picture but does it look like its image, as in displayed on the pixels or physical. It could st be the mesh of te touch panel, for e.g. on my desire I can see a diamond shaped mesh in sun light. Can't see anything on my xoom screen though, but its got the crappy factory screen cover on still.
Macbots drool as I XOOM through the Galaxy to my hearts Desire on the back of a Droid.
Yeah it's there on mine too, I also noticed it when I first got it. I'm not 100% sure what it is, but I'm assuming it's related to the capacitive screen.
Its the touch screen digitizer.

Thanks for the info. Do you think then that it's normal that it's visible?
I searched around and found this link h**p://ezinearticles.com/?Touchscreen-Digitizer---Symptoms-and-Cheap-Replacements&id=6047548 where it says:
Usually, the digitizer is not visible unless the screen has been damaged or cracked.

It's normal that you should see a glint of it in light, don't worry about it, nothing wrong with it unless u can see it straight on in any light.

We have 4 Xoom's in our office and you can see it on all of them when the screen is off - and the light is on. But we are software developers, we live in the dark so it's hard to see most of the time.

Hi all,
So I just got my Transformer this evening and am hoping and praying for no issues.
I am wondering about something when I turn on the unit however already... I cannot tell if this is normal or not.
On the lower part of the welcome screen about maybe a 1/4 way up from the bottom there seems to be a faint light bar/line that goes across from one side to the other in this area.
I cannot tell if this is part of the welcome screen or if this is a flaw. Everything as far as leaks goes and such looks great from all sides but this concerns me. If it's part of the welcome design screen then great! If not I think I obviously have a problem with the screen. I hope this is not the case.
I have attached the best image I could take with crap camera showing the line. I apologize for it not being the best quality.
If anyone can assist I'd truly appreciate it. I don't want to test it on other screens as I wanted to let my Transformer charge completely before getting into it as it states. What is a good amount of time to let it charge to get the most out of my battery?
Thanks again for all help offered.

You can't get a clear idea about light bleed with a background like that. Download a black image from the web and open it from the gallery app, that will give you an almost black screen. Light leak is most noticeable on a black screen with brightness set to max.

What about the streak of light that is going through the Android character is what I am referring to?
It's definitely not extremely blatant on this photo but you can certainly see it.

That's the background ... if there is a problem it will most likely be at the most extreme edges, it almost looks like there might be some on the bottom but that could be camera angle.
You already opened the box and took off the plastic, going past the welcome screen isn'tgoing to affect return policy or anything. Even if it did you can do a full wipe and be back to that screen in minutes.

Great thanks a lot! Yes you are right there is some at the bottom.
What you see is correct... Are there ones out there that do not have this bleeding at the bottom?
Thanks.

Tough question. Probably? I think all have it to some degree, but like my new one I have to put a blanket over my head, turn the screen all black, and turn the brightness all the way up to notice it. If you don't notice it or it doesn't bother you it is just an aesthetic problem that shouldn't ever get worse (or better). If it does and you can exchange it I would recommend doing that instead of sending it to Asus. There are plenty of horror stories about people sending it for repair.
However I would wait until you only have a week left to send it back to see if you forget about it. Some people have gone through nearly a dozen returns looking for a perfect one. I mean we deserve to get one without flaws, but sadly these screens are so prone to bleed that it seems to make some people just give up on tablets...

Yeah I can understand that. That is a great answer.
I noticed there is also noticable bleed on the left side as well near the bottom as well as the bleed noticed on the bottom all closer to the center and left.
Probably want to try out another one with there being more than just a little at the bottom. What do you think degen?
Thanks for your response.

Like I mentioned I am on my second one, although I also had a blotch in the middle of my screen. If it bothers you now there's a good chance it always will. Sadly it's a roll of the dice. However having got mine from Amazon I figured I would rather return it then just regret it. Lightbleed SHOULDN'T exist but sadly you may have to settle with it to some degree but not a lot of it. If it bugs you while warching movies, playing games, or web browsing I would try exhanging it. Make sure to try it at night if you aren't sure. That's when it will be the most noticeable.

Thanks a lot Degen. I appreciate your help.
Just spent the whole night setting up my AT&T HOX, got into bed and turned off the lights and noticed there is a noticeable light leak on the bottom of the display (by the capacitive buttons)! 1. Does anyone know if at&t will replace it on the spot and 2. If they do, is there any way for me to NOT have to setup the new device from scratch!? I know my google account will add my apps but I'm talking about settings, content, etc. Thanks for the help.

1.) I would guess so, but I really think its going to be somewhat of a common problem since it is an LCD (and needs a backlight).
2.) I know a few third party places have a computer that transfers all the data over, but I don't know if ATT does.

AT&T can transfer contacts and photos.
And your contacts are probably synced with google.
So you'll have to set it up again.
most of my calendar and contacts was saved on google servers on my iphone, so i just synced it to the one x! boom i was set, Just gotta get my apps set up etc like i had it on my gs2
I started a similar thread a few days ago. Doesnt bother me that much, still a great phone.
Mine has the light leak on the right bottom edge... the glass also seems to be sticking up about 0.5mm higher as well. :/
is it a gap between the white housing and the digitizer glass?

Yup. Well, in my case, it is the black housing. I can see it in a dark room or outside at night, about an inch long.

Light leak for me between digitizer and the outside edge. Less then a millimeter though, and can only be seen at an angle, and I just got a case and now you can't see it.
Hmmm, I have this almost along the entire left side of the phone, it looks to be a bit higher than the right side, I wonder should I return it or not

I would imagine its pretty hard to get a pic of it, but just go into a completely dark room and turn your screen on, you will notice a very thin lit area of light coming from near the screen and case on the side, I don't think its any major concern, it doesn't really bother me at all, but I would like to see these dead pixels that some people find

Hi everyone!
I went to a local store to see and do some testing on xperia Z3. As soon as I opened the camera i saw some letters and image of a woman burned in display and I was like wtf is this. Then I entered the display test to see if that image is really burned in display...and it turns out it is, and it is visible only in grey color... How is this possible? I thought that LCD display can't be burned...
See the picture below.

Honestly, I've never before heard of LCD burn in. I mean, wtf??? :S
Its probably an image retention, it can be eliminated using a color test tool which flashes various colors, many are on app store.
This is not AMOLED so it should not be possible (I mean not permanent). I have seen similar effect on my old G2 when a replacement (repair shop)LCD went bad though. So do not worry, its probably just a bad unit.
My goes into daydream when docked (usually when asleep or at work). No burn in yet

That looks like a display model left with bootup screen on for several hours or perhaps a wallpaper which had the display on for several hours.
Looks like a replacement will be required.

I was just going to say something similar - looks like a burn-in. I thought modern LCDs didn't do that anymore ...
You should try to get it replaced, if it's under warranty.
And guess what its also appearing in cwm
I'll be lucky if i can get it replaced .... Oh well.

actually its not a display model.
this is very funny as there are hundreds of these units sold in iraq and a whole bunch come with the imprint.
i had no choice today but to repurchase (after i sold the last one) because this device simply has awesome hardware for the price.
there has to be a reason/thing causing this image.
its definitely not in the OS as it appears in CWM also.
any ideas?
Hello.
I reccently bought a NVIDIA Shield Tablet, and after 2 days i had it replaced becase the screen kind of had a "brownish" color tone on one of the bezels. The new one they gave me does not have that problem but the screen is different. When turned off you can see kind of a squared patern on it, and when on you can see that patern on some viewing angles. Is this possible?
Hope to get a quick awnser so i can present this complaint on the seller.
I'm pretty sure you're talking about the digitizer matrix. Is it really visible under bright light at about a 45°angle. Lots of little horizontal striations as well reflecting off the glass?
