Have been really please with the Z3 since I got it. Performance is great and in general I really like the camera and the range of options however...when I photograph anything that is red or has red in the scene the camera/processing doesn't truly represent the colour and adds a pinkish tinge to the image.
Not sure exactly what is happening here, if the Z3 is producing cooler images than expected but would love to have some feedback from everyone else.
Some images, especially in low light directly on to a white background produce a pinkish spot. I've seen this reported on the Sony forum with some Z3C owners so i'm not sure if this is contrabuting the the problem.
I shot these in manual mode>8mp>auto WB

Yeah I'm aware of that issue and have it very slightly in low light situations against a white background. I went back and looked at some camera samples from a couple of reviews for the Z3 and it does appear that when images have content that is red the camera struggles to represent the true colour (i'm not sure how to explain this better). Red appear to be more like magenta or have a pink tint to them.
Am going to go to a couple of stores and see if I can recreate the effect. The issue with the pink spot may of course be adding to the problem i'm having.

Should be possible to disentangle the two problems fairly easily; take a picture of the red book where the book is only on one side of the photo. Additionally, just take a picture of a grey wall.
Also, try playing with the white balance; using auto isn't really going to help. If there's not a manual option (i've not really played with the camera on my phone much yet) then try a few different settings and see if there's a pattern.
Lollipop brings support for RAW mode so these problems go away then, or are at least partially mitigated (at the cost of a little post-processing, anyway). Even the odd pink blob problem, if it turns out to be hardware related, could be almost entirely handled there.

It was an interior shot and not a particularly sunny day outside but the second image with Manual Mode is a better representation of the colour of the book. I even notice this outside and will take try and get some more shots to show the issue.

The reds appear to have a cool blue feel to them, and I bought the Z3 so I could have a phone with a above average camera on it that I can pull out and capture moment without worrying too much about the settings. I've not experimented with the camera too much. I've taken a few pictures in good light and without too critical an inspection they look fantastic. Your first image below looks as if it might suffer from the `pink dot` problem. You can't really tell because of the colour of the left part of the picture but it does look like it. If you tried that again on a white background perhaps it would be clearer. You could take a picture of a white piece of paper in different modes/white balances and see if there's a problem, and if so a pattern to the problem. If the problem is only in some white balances then it suggests it's not a hardware problem and therefore a software fix could sort it. From what I know, white balance is a software thing where RGB values are biased differently; perhaps there's a bug there. Auto white balance, even on professional cameras, isn't always perfect. I've an EOS400D camera and I tend to shoot in RAW mode (which will be supported in Lollipop) where the white balance selected is not "burnt in" to the image and can be changed losslessly in post production.

Try changing the white balance, manual mode is better, though even I like to just point and shoot. Hopefully auto mode will be fixed in an update.

Agreed. It's pretty awful, it's obviously not selecting the correct white balance mode. As you can see from the first pic below...it's ridiculously bad. The second is shot with Manual Mode and it a lot more acurate.

They still won't admit there's an issue until they found a solution so, I hope the Find one, this is my first phone that does that...

Try turning off image enhancements like x-reality or super vivid, then view image again.

I tried. but issue keep going.
Also, I took photo in same settings with other Xperia z3.. The red colours always looks more real than my xperia . and i transfer these image my xperia and looks same real.
Camera hardware is faulty i think but tech service says software and Sony will update it. But Sony no say.
Red to Pink issue
I am pretty amazed this one has not been reported by more users. The sonysupport in Sweden is not aware of the issue, and although I send in pictures as well as the actual Xperia Z3 phone - they will still not admit the problem.
here goes. This is most likely an de-bayer problem creating pictures from the RAW sensor. I note that i bright daylight the RED colours gets over exposed in the process - and produces a pink result. I shadows the result is better.
Also note that the preview of the actually camera , probably generated in a different way internally , show more accurate colours than the the photo itself.
This is a good hint to the developers where the problem is.
With Lollipop 5.0 the api:s for RAW is no available. Sony has decided so far to not make them available in the Xperia version of the 5.02 version. But if they did, then 3;rd party developers could control this de.process from the sensor and produce much better pictures.
So hear hear, Sony developers and product managers . you can fix this - If you do, then the Xperia is truly the king of droids

I have same issue as well. Picture finder shows nice red colors, but taken pictures are all pink. All image enhancements are off and camera in manual mode - it does not make noticeable improvement at all.
Its a disappointment, especially since phone's camera is reviewed as quite OK.

Hey. I'm also facing same issue. My Z3c isnt able to recognize Red color properly.
What exact setting you tried in manual mode to get your 2nd image right??

Nowadays I usually go to manual mode and leave the white ballance set to auto. If the colour still looks off then I can adjust the white balance according to the conditions to get the right shot.
I pretty much never use Superior Auto mode for pictures now which is incredibly frustrating when you want to take a quick shot and you have to change the setting to manual. It's one of the few things that has annoyed me about the device. On some levels it's really good but on others it falls short. I want a device that can tsake great images in auto but that I can adjust and play with if I want.
A lot of new device coming out towards autumn. Am pretty resigned to the fact that i'm going to be trading in the Z3 for something else.

I dont know if this is just an inherent problem with the Fuze but pictures taken at night are absolutely terrible.
Below is an example of a couple i took.
First off i notice that the flash has to be on manually and will not just flash when needed. Even when i turn it on though it is pathetic and doesnt do crap for lighting up the target.
Perhaps some people can post their night time pics so compare them.

that's tre...cause those are camera first and cells second We have cell phone cameras where they have camera cell phones...one day they'll come together and we'll have it all HTC does not have particularly good cameras or flashes on their phones...maybe that's why their next line of phones is missing the flash entirely.
Anyway, the app I noted still works great to correct lighting issues after a dark photo is taken. Obviously it's not as good as having a good photo from the start but the end result is pretty good considering.
it's the typical issue with the cellphone cmos camera chips
1. Remove the back panel from the phone
2. Using a black marker, color the silver triangle black on the inside part of the panel (the part that faces the camera)
3. Once the silvery bit is sufficiently black and dried replace the panel
4. Test
You should find that the flash no longer reflects off the silvery metal part back into the lens. The camera still pretty much sucks, but at least you wont have that eerie blue "haze" effect generated by the flash reflection

Ok try this turn camera on focus on something white to see if u have pink spot . If so wave you hand slowly in front of the camera and let the camera focus on your hand and repeat until pink is gone
Gave that a shot. It appeared to help while I had the camera focused on the page. Using the camera again though and on default saturation it's still coming out pink. I'm wondering if this is a software issue or a hardware one. Have to decide by the 28th if I should go back and exchange this phone for another.
From my experience every HTC unit I have used does this in low light situations . But you can try to exchange and see if it helps.

That was what I was wondering. If this was an issue with my unit or if other people were having the same experience. When the lighting is good the tint does go away, for now keeping the saturation down one level seems to do the trick.
I have the same problem taking pictures oudside, with bright lighting. I take pictures of my chickens, and their heads look magenta, not red. I just lowered the saturation and took a test photo inside, and it seemed to help a bit. I have only had the phone for a week, and with the exception of the magenta chickens, I like the phone.
Mine does it too. My hunch is that its not a defect, and its never actually occurred to me that it might be. So I haven't compared with other HOX's to see if its a defect or not. I seems like its intentionally oversaturated by HTC to make the colors look more vivid. It usually looks ok. But sometimes it makes people's faces look like they have a ton of pink blush on their faces. I don't personally think its a low light issue. Seems to sometimes appear in sunlight too. But bright sunlight tends to wash out colors, so the pinks and reds are often not there to begin with (especially on faces), so there is nothing to oversaturate.
I remember in the sample photos taken with the phone and released by HTC before the phone was even released, and thinking they all looked really artificially oversaturated.
First one is non-HDR, second is HDR. Notice the second seems to have a weird shadow/dark spot in the sky. I've seen similar strange things in other HDR photos. Anybody else?

This looks nothing at all like the tinting issue many others are having with the HTC One. In fact, it looks exactly like the HDR processing effect that occurs when you've got a strong light source (the sun) behind a solid object (the tree.) This looks like a completely normal byproduct to me.

For what it's worth, the sun wasn't behind that tree. It was directly overhead.

What you are seeing is not a bug, but a normal result of "tone mapping", a technique commonly associated with HDR.
Tone mapping is where it automatically darkens light areas of the picture and lightens dark areas of the picture to reduce the overall dynamic range, hence fitting more dynamic range into the image. The downside to it is that it results in this crappy-looking effect around the edges of areas of uniform brightness.
In some cases you can adjust the level of tone-mapping or its blur-radius to minimise such effects. Unfortunately in this case it looks like you can't. It has far too high a blur-radius and is far too strong.
HDR is only gonna work satisfactorily on some images. It is definitely not something you should use all the time. It's a cheesy effect, and over-use of it or using it where not appropriate simply produces ugly results.
Do a search on Google for "tone mapping" and you'll see other spectacularly bad examples of this cheesy effect.

Thanks for the info. I wish the one mini had the option to save both the HDR and the non-hdr so you had a backup image when HDR causes problems like this.

In fact, even in very low light if the flash goes off, the picture is foggy looking. Anyone else experience this or have any thoughts? Really irritating. Pictures are great looking if no flash though (on both phones).

I haven't used flash yet but I read somewhere that manual mode reduces this fog effect. i'm guessing it's some sort of lens flare? Try playing with the different scene modes and settings.

Need some examples, really. Are you using a case on your phone? Try without. Try a few different modes (auto, manual etc) and see if there's a pattern.
Manual mode and changing iso up seems to allow for better pics.

Yes same problem already talked about in depth, try manual mode, keep the ISO as low as possible with the flash, in fact if the object is more than 5m away, then the flash will not really do much, turn it off and increase the ISO
I had the same Problem, and after testing if it was the case or the Glascover, because sometimes the
Pics were foggy and sometimes not.
Some of the Glas Cover makes Reflextions on to the Lens but the worse
are the Fingers on the left Side of the Phone, when you make pics in landscape.
The Finger on the left Top makes so many Reflections to the lens that the Imgages becomes
foggy.
When you make a Pic and hold the Phone in the middle, than all the Pics with Flash are good,
You can test it by yourself in Automodus or Manuell.

I have reported this in this forum as well. Mine is more a yellowish tint to the overall display. When you look at chrome or YouTube in dark mode, you'll notice the blacks aren't as deep. I have come across 3 different note 20 ultra with the issue which leads me to believe most if not all units have this even if not many ppl report it.
I saw it yesterday when its on low brightness and dark mode on. Even when watching prime video there is green tint though I brought whole green hue to 0
Any of my devices with amoleds look green to me. Must be 65 y.o. vision. Did the trick of turning down the green all the way. No dice.
I use a neat app from the play store called Screen Balance which is a Godsend. You can really fix the tinting with it. I like cooler colors without green and it does the job... but... the saturation and contrast in the Ultra just isn't up to snuff. I only notice it when I put the phone side by side with the Note 9. I have Screenbalance installed in both devices, and the 9 beats the Ultra firmly.

You don't need an app for colour filters, it's also in Settings > Accessibility > Visibility Enhancements > Add colour filter

All I saw was Add Color Lens but at the lowest number washed everything over with the chosen color. Same with color adjustment-barely any changes with the sliders even though I do have the green at zero.
That app is the ticket for me. It has various filters for different screens and the one I chose I adjust for *just* a hint of blue-takes out the greenish without putting a visible tint over everything. I do it on every device I have and for me, works great. Believe me, I've tried everything with every amoled and it's the most workable for me, and I'm anal about this stuff. :rolleyes

Ah I'm running the Android 11 beta so looks like they renamed a few things, but they're the same settings, yes I tried those settings too and got the same effect, I assumed that was what the app did too, looks like it works a bit differently to the stock settings method.

I don't have the green tint issue thankfully, I did install it to have a look but the free version is limited to one colour and setting so couldn't explore it much, but have bookmarked it incase any future devices suffer from it, thanks.

It has various filters for different screens and the one I chose I adjust for *just* a hint of blue-takes out the greenish without putting a visible tint over everything. I do it on every device I have and for me, works great. Believe me, I've tried everything with every amoled and it's the most workable for me, and I'm anal about this stuff. :rolleyes

Thanks for the "Screen Balance" app! This app seems to be the only one that gives the fine tuning for white balance without turning Vivid mode ON. It has significantly reduced the yellow tint on my N20 Ultra. I did notice however that it makes the text on screen a little bit less sharp.
I don't have the green tint either. Was all in my head.
Then again maybe not. Lol. I see it and don't see it at night. Regardless of 120 or 60Hz.

I did by going into visibility enhancements, personalized & chose the colours & voila natural mode is now much more white & saturated.

I did that also, but there was still significant yellow tint. The app helped me reduce the yellow tint quite a bit

Well the green tint keeps coming and going on mine.
Noticeable at low light and night time usage when device is in dark mode. Sent it back., I’m nothaving this issue hover over my head with no warranty after dropping over 4 digits on this device.

I ordered another one, unfortunately USA model with crippled dual sim functionality. Least I have 12 months peace of mind now. Oh well...

Interesting.....I guess I'm one of the few lucky ones with no green tint or I'm just not noticing it....let us know how your new one is !!! The only "problem" I've had with mine is a little speck of dust inside the camera module but its not on the lens so it doesn't affect my pictures ??*
