Hi,
first of all my search function isn t working! So sorry if this question has already been answered.
but are we able to get a flash light on the phone, maybe by just clipping it on, on the back and put a on/off button on the backcover?
Thanks in advance

But for iphone only.
the SGS doesn't need a flash for pictures at night time, just take the picture using the NIGHT mode of the camera
there are many samples in this forum, search for it
if you really want a good flash, get this instead

yes exactly

I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you on that point. Night mode is not a replacement for having flash.

Flash has limited range. It cant take pictures of outdoor scenes at all. It wont make any difference. This is when sensor sensitivity trumps flash.
I would really have loved it if they included an LED flash, im pretty sure it wont increase the thickness, its quite useful as a torch

Neither flash nor night mode are a replacement for having real light though. Flash does have it's uses, and so does Night mode. Flash does have some problems though at night and can lead to some of the worst pictures ever taken (someone took one in me in the night using a flash at night, and it seriously looked like I had crawled out of a petri dish earlier that morning. With Night mode though, getting sharp pictures can be painful (and it only works well in lessor light situations, unless you have a tripod).
That being said, I too would like to see cases released with a light integrated. Yes, I do have an LED torch already, but having something integrated with the phone would allow less messing around.
I want an LED on a sticker.
I mean, they make some pretty darn bright little party lights on pins & T-shirts, why not a whilte one that just lines up the button battery on one end, the switch to push in the middle, and the LED bulb on the other end, cover most or all of the parts in silicone with some adhesive on the flat side. Stick on some velcro and all that would have to be done is removal before it gets stuck to the phone to the vecro patch half of us have in our cars. Sell three for $25 and you'd be making $24 per sale, including shipping.
No, I can't find one. I've looked. I'm thinking about hacking up a light-up Led Zeppelin shirt, or more likely heading for Radio Shack and sticking the button battery contacts between the bulb contacts, taping it, and just sqeezing the thing when I want light.
Seriously, this absence of light is a bit ridiculous. It's so cheap, and they're charging us how much for molded plastic plus this? That and flashlights are all we get for choices?
I do love the light sensitivity of this camera, though. It might just work with a single bulb for those impossible times. It' sure doesn't need an explosion of light. It's the best I've ever had on a phone by a million times.
Edit: found this at DealExreme. Yet again for iPhone. I think I'll watch for this in micro USB.
Here's the sticky, except it points the wrong way.
Here's one I almost got excited about. Sold out.
Yep, shopping for i9000 accessories. This is how it is.

I did some very weird reading in DIY flashlight forums. Learned some stuff. The $12 Proton Freedom keyring has a dimmer on it, and people swear by it. I have too much to keep track of; I have three copies of keys that I use, and two copies stashed for JIC. Too pricey.
So I settled for trying this, which has a nice flat back on the clip for sticking a magnet to, or adhering somewhere like your monitor; and this, but they only come is sets of 10 (most of which will be in stockings on Christmas eve/morning, about this time).

Yo Janis,
Have you seen this?

which one specifically?, you got too many listed.
most of those are for close range, it wont work for photos
Yeah night mode is really not that great, a lot of pictures are unusable depending on the circumstances.

You had me goin there for a minute! I think maybe that site did, too, when I was really shopping, but I looked at so much crap, staying up way too late, I don't remember. (unsturctured time without distraction for a mom is time well spent)
I think in order to provide decent brightness and useable battery life, they all have to be pretty bulky. I got key chain ones that don't stay on unless you sacrifice a fingernail that are reputed to be bright, unblemished and diffuse (the bulb rating actually doesn't tell the wole story, i guess), and if I really wanted to hot-glue it to my phone I suppose I could.
I really just want something for those relatively close up "Mom! Lookit this!" moments that I might otherwise miss. Most of my photos suck, anyway, so art photo (OK, non-silly photos) I leave up to the rest of the fam. I need practice finding shots with decent light, anyway, this'll definitely up my game a notch. IMHO, deciding what you want to do with the flash is probably more important than whether it comes integrated in a case or not.
I'm eager to see what comes of this iPhone no-flash standard. I hope it goes away as battery tech gets better, but in the mean time, it'll be interesting to watch.
And if you haven't checked out DealExtreme.... I had over $200 in my cart before I decided to weed. I haven't girl-shopped like that for ten years (divergent). I'm hooked!
just my thoughs for a flash on a phone...
Even with a canon 7D you will get terrible shots with a built-in flash. Its just not about the hardware but more about optics. To get a decent image you first need to move the flash away from the camera or at least point it into the ceiling or a white wall. Else it will look plain ugly no matter what. Every photographer knows this.
A xenon-flash on the phone will light up the close perimeter but will not create a good image. A led-light will be totaly useless, sure it might light up the object but colors, shadows and over all image quality will be terrible.
A fast sensor (high iso) will create noisy images. Even the 7d makes some noice, still this is a middle-end dedicated slr-camera. Dont expect a micro-small phone-sensor to produce anything good.
So... to make a decent photo with a phone: have good lightning conditions = outdoor, close to a window (preferably north side) or use a (or maybe even three) secondary light source (like a lamp).
An inbuilt flash/led on a camera can at best produce "working" images. Meaning you can actually see whats been photoed. For documentation. But for good photography forget about this.
I still miss a led on the sgs, but i would like it to be pointing strait up so i can use it as a flashlight. But the screen is rather bright anyway...
this was explained many many times, but some people still don't quite get it.
I'll suggest hobby photography lessons, then they will see the real difference.
a flash or LED on a phone, is mostly just used as a flash light
it has no real life effective value as a flash for a picture session.

In the t-mobile vibrant section, someone pointed to an iphone case that had a built in led flash, lol.
I currently have SE W550i which has LED Flash. I have never paid attention to the flash while clicking photos with it but i EXTENSIVELY use it as a torch at various times and it is really helpful.
So Since now I plan to buy Galaxy S no flash is huge disappointment for me. Not because of pictures but I cant use the flash as a torch because there isnt any. I fail to understand why such an expensive phone doesnt have such a basic feature like this. Well thats another matter if you want to use such an expensive phone as a torch(!) but it still works damn good if it has one and sadly Galaxy S doesnt have any!
I wonder if these lights will work with 2 cr2032 batteries. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.m748&item=380261264719&viewitem=&_trkparms=clkid%3D6208795471328440285

Umm, no. My Z takes pretty good photos. Of course very low light situations will result in longer shutter time, and increased chances for blur due to camera or the subject moving. But in most conditions good photos are very possible, and mostly a matter of technique and experience. Manually adjusting ISO, white balance, taking advantage of what light is present, and bracing the camera can all have major impact on the quality of the photo, even in lower light situations. Moral of the story your problem is likely more the user, and not the equipment. I don't mean that in a pejorative way. But while not the best camera phone around, good photos are possible with the Z, with the proper technique.
I used a mild lens restorer on mine fixed her right up. Perfect pictures again

No offence bro but considering the fact i was a professional photographer for 6 years straight and still do some work now as a pro photographer.
I have no "problems" with photographic "technique"
Maybe my ideas of 'clear' and 'sharp' digital images is a little more informed and nuanced than yours. But compared to a few other 5mp phone cameras IMHO the Desire Z is on average at best and poor if you want to be critical.

Hard to take your comment of "no offence" seriously, as you are bragging about your photog experience and how much "more informed" you are than me (no basis for any such claim). Why not keep it to a technical discussion, instead of boasting about how awesome you are, "bro"?
Largely comes down to expectations and opinion. Camera phones are largely for spur-of the moment snapshots (not serious photography). For this, the Desire Z is just fine. We are also talking about a phone that is a year and a half old. In its time, its camera was much better (especially low light) than the iPhone iteration of the time (3GS). Were there camera phones at the time that were a bit better, yes, but not drastically. More recent phones have significantly better cameras, and the One X looks to blow away most the competition (except the Nokia Pureview's monster 41 MP camera). But seeing as every other spec on smartphones has come a long way in the past year and a half, its not really fair to compare the Z to newer phones.
Also, seeing as the OP is just looking to restore his present technology to a previous condition, calling it "crappy and blurry" doesn't really help him out at all.
Agree with previous poster, seriously if you want good pics you get an slr or dedicated rig. Most people don't carry that around. For what it is the camera on this phone is very good to good enough depending who you ask and their expectations. Sure beats carrying around a point and shoot or slr multi lens combo. Like I told the OP if your considering getting a new back then try cleaning it up with a mild abrasive like a lens restorer, CD scratch remover something of that nature. I used the stuff for headlights it was like 5 bucks. Don't go crazy I used super minimal pressure and a soft paper towel and it took all of 30 seconds to clear up no joke. Good as new and I haven't had to do it again. In my case it was the anti-reflective coating in the glass, since it was shot who cares right? Came off and pics are sharp again. In the future if I actually scratch it I'll probably buy a replacement but that did it for me. Just my 2 cents.
I had the same problem as you, but I managed to fix it using a polish dedicated to car headlights.
Thaks for the links, i have problems with the camera glass too.

Have been really please with the Z3 since I got it. Performance is great and in general I really like the camera and the range of options however...when I photograph anything that is red or has red in the scene the camera/processing doesn't truly represent the colour and adds a pinkish tinge to the image.
Not sure exactly what is happening here, if the Z3 is producing cooler images than expected but would love to have some feedback from everyone else.
Some images, especially in low light directly on to a white background produce a pinkish spot. I've seen this reported on the Sony forum with some Z3C owners so i'm not sure if this is contrabuting the the problem.
I shot these in manual mode>8mp>auto WB
Anyone else had this issue?

Yeah I'm aware of that issue and have it very slightly in low light situations against a white background. I went back and looked at some camera samples from a couple of reviews for the Z3 and it does appear that when images have content that is red the camera struggles to represent the true colour (i'm not sure how to explain this better). Red appear to be more like magenta or have a pink tint to them.
Am going to go to a couple of stores and see if I can recreate the effect. The issue with the pink spot may of course be adding to the problem i'm having.

Should be possible to disentangle the two problems fairly easily; take a picture of the red book where the book is only on one side of the photo. Additionally, just take a picture of a grey wall.
Also, try playing with the white balance; using auto isn't really going to help. If there's not a manual option (i've not really played with the camera on my phone much yet) then try a few different settings and see if there's a pattern.
Lollipop brings support for RAW mode so these problems go away then, or are at least partially mitigated (at the cost of a little post-processing, anyway). Even the odd pink blob problem, if it turns out to be hardware related, could be almost entirely handled there.
Been busy but just managed to get back to the issue and photograph the book again.
It seems to be a white balance issue with Superior Auto mode not selecting the correct white balance setting for the image. The first image I took was with Superior Auto mode selected and the second image with Manual mode and white balance set to cloudy. It was an interior shot and not a particularly sunny day outside but the second image with Manual Mode is a better representation of the colour of the book. I even notice this outside and will take try and get some more shots to show the issue.
I'm disappointed that the Superior Auto mode isn't picking the correct balance. The reds appear to have a cool blue feel to them, and I bought the Z3 so I could have a phone with a above average camera on it that I can pull out and capture moment without worrying too much about the settings. Maybe i'm being over critical but it seems to struggle in areas that even my girlfriends iPhone 4s has no problem with.

I've not experimented with the camera too much. I've taken a few pictures in good light and without too critical an inspection they look fantastic. Your first image below looks as if it might suffer from the `pink dot` problem. You can't really tell because of the colour of the left part of the picture but it does look like it. If you tried that again on a white background perhaps it would be clearer. You could take a picture of a white piece of paper in different modes/white balances and see if there's a problem, and if so a pattern to the problem. If the problem is only in some white balances then it suggests it's not a hardware problem and therefore a software fix could sort it. From what I know, white balance is a software thing where RGB values are biased differently; perhaps there's a bug there. Auto white balance, even on professional cameras, isn't always perfect. I've an EOS400D camera and I tend to shoot in RAW mode (which will be supported in Lollipop) where the white balance selected is not "burnt in" to the image and can be changed losslessly in post production.
I went on a trip to the beach at the weekend and had to bin all my Superior Auto shots as they came out absolutely awful. All of the 20mp manual shots came out great if not a little over exposed on the sun
Try also turning off X-reality as it makes reds look a bit more purple.
I've found manual mode takes great pics and reproduces the colours brilliantly.
Try changing the white balance, manual mode is better, though even I like to just point and shoot. Hopefully auto mode will be fixed in an update.

Agreed. It's pretty awful, it's obviously not selecting the correct white balance mode. As you can see from the first pic below...it's ridiculously bad. The second is shot with Manual Mode and it a lot more acurate.

Yes it is better. I guess i'll have to leave the camera setting on Manual as much as possible and just make a quick WB change before closing the shutter. I'll get in touch with Sony again and raise the issue although last time they just suggested a software repair which didn't really change anything. Like you said, hopefully the can release a software fix although, judging by their response to the pink spot issue I won't be holding my breath.

I tried. but issue keep going.
Also, I took photo in same settings with other Xperia z3.. The red colours always looks more real than my xperia . and i transfer these image my xperia and looks same real.
Camera hardware is faulty i think but tech service says software and Sony will update it. But Sony no say.
Red to Pink issue
I am pretty amazed this one has not been reported by more users. The sonysupport in Sweden is not aware of the issue, and although I send in pictures as well as the actual Xperia Z3 phone - they will still not admit the problem.
here goes. This is most likely an de-bayer problem creating pictures from the RAW sensor. I note that i bright daylight the RED colours gets over exposed in the process - and produces a pink result. I shadows the result is better.
Also note that the preview of the actually camera , probably generated in a different way internally , show more accurate colours than the the photo itself.
This is a good hint to the developers where the problem is.
With Lollipop 5.0 the api:s for RAW is no available. Sony has decided so far to not make them available in the Xperia version of the 5.02 version. But if they did, then 3;rd party developers could control this de.process from the sensor and produce much better pictures.
So hear hear, Sony developers and product managers . you can fix this - If you do, then the Xperia is truly the king of droids
come on!!

Its a disappointment, especially since phone's camera is reviewed as quite OK.

Nowadays I usually go to manual mode and leave the white ballance set to auto. If the colour still looks off then I can adjust the white balance according to the conditions to get the right shot.
I pretty much never use Superior Auto mode for pictures now which is incredibly frustrating when you want to take a quick shot and you have to change the setting to manual. It's one of the few things that has annoyed me about the device. On some levels it's really good but on others it falls short. I want a device that can tsake great images in auto but that I can adjust and play with if I want.
A lot of new device coming out towards autumn. Am pretty resigned to the fact that i'm going to be trading in the Z3 for something else.
Got my Z3 a couple of days ago (wife as well) and when either of us take a picture in an indoor, low light situation the picture is always foggy looking. In fact, even in very low light if the flash goes off, the picture is foggy looking. Anyone else experience this or have any thoughts? Really irritating. Pictures are great looking if no flash though (on both phones).
Yep, same here and tried everything...this camera is why I bought it, and it sucks compared to my Lumia 920

I haven't used flash yet but I read somewhere that manual mode reduces this fog effect. i'm guessing it's some sort of lens flare? Try playing with the different scene modes and settings.
Same issue with mine. Been working all week on it and cannot get a good picture inside
Same, swapped first one out only to find this has the same issue, thought i was the only one

Need some examples, really. Are you using a case on your phone? Try without. Try a few different modes (auto, manual etc) and see if there's a pattern.
Manual mode and changing iso up seems to allow for better pics.
Sent from my D6603 using XDA Free mobile app
Yes same problem already talked about in depth, try manual mode, keep the ISO as low as possible with the flash, in fact if the object is more than 5m away, then the flash will not really do much, turn it off and increase the ISO
I had the same Problem, and after testing if it was the case or the Glascover, because sometimes the
Pics were foggy and sometimes not.
Some of the Glas Cover makes Reflextions on to the Lens but the worse
are the Fingers on the left Side of the Phone, when you make pics in landscape.
The Finger on the left Top makes so many Reflections to the lens that the Imgages becomes
foggy.
When you make a Pic and hold the Phone in the middle, than all the Pics with Flash are good,
You can test it by yourself in Automodus or Manuell.
rambus
Same issue
Has anyone managed to find a workaround for this??
I'm having the same issue and not sure what to do.
Thanks,
I just got my Z5 Compact today and obviously I tested the camera out ASAP. I can't lie... It kind of bothers me and to me it's quite obvious. It's right in the top left corner but it's quite strong. I got it from Amazon, should I ask for a replacement or should I send it to Sony for a repair? I'm from the UK. I've attached the photo below:
Please take a pic of a book or some normal object. It's already been explained... monitors can cause distorted pics.

My bad. Here is two pics:
Let me know if I should retake them.
I can see some corner blurriness on the top left and the bottom left. I'm not sure it really bothers me though.
Should I return and get a brand new device or should I try and get Sony to repair it?
Could you rotate the camera 180 degrees and take the same pics again. That should verify it.

The way i see it, it's not a big problem. It's a common wide lens issue. If i'm on your position, i'll just keep the phone as it is. others result might be sharp from edge to edge, but it is really a narrow lens.
it seems you have a problem, your photos give an idea that there is a displacement of elements of the camera module, because the right side is blurred little less than it should be, and the left side is blurred more than it should be. I, I think almost perfectly semetrichno blurry right and left, later lay out a photo, and you can put the photo Made in so: put your phone camera at the table, or close the lens and take a picture in auto mode, photos need to do so that you can see the blue noise, it is a hypothesis, where it has been, and I think this can be judged from the defect. Please upload pictures, I have to see it, it can give more understanding of the problem for me, for you and for all.
To be able to detect the blurr properly, you need to have your phone leveled properly when taking the picture, for example in most of your pictures you take them from a weird angle, like from up to down, or from down to up, you need to take the photo exactly in the front leveled to the same angle as the monitor/book or whatever.
I hope you know what i mean.

No problem. "DSC_0377" is the rotated picture. Thank you for helping me with this issue.

I'm not sure it really bothers me, I will only notice it when I look for it and sometimes it doesn't look as severe as other pictures. Also by looking at the camera lens it DOES seem pretty much straight. I probably will not go through the hassle of returning/repairing. Maybe I will try to get it repaired near the end of it's warranty (a year in the UK I think).

No worries, I don't think I understood 100% what you said but I put the phone face down on my table and took a picture. There's more light coming from the bottom left but I think that is where the flash is located. If there are any other tests I can conduct for the community please let me know :good:
Pictures:
(1st one - "DSC_0375" is taken normally)
(2nd one - "DSC_0377" is taken upside down)
(3rd one - "DSC_0376" is the one requested by vyshgorado)
Thank you guys for helping a guy out!
EDIT: I'm not sure why the first picture is upside down... on my desktop it is the correct way up.

Ah yeah I think I know what you mean. Basically have the phone level? If the above photos are not good enough then I'll retake them, thank you for the advice though.

It's not something that would necessarily bother me but it's clearly annoying you. I'd take it to a Sony store.

I took a look at both pics, and there is a bit of corner blurring in both. But I can't say if that's actually a lens problem or just do wind, lighting conditions, hand movement, etc. Normally, the problem shows up only on one side, so when the phone is rotated, the blurring should have followed. It doesn't look like that is what is happening here.
Okay, so I need you to do another, more conclusive, test. Take a pic indoors, where you have good lighting. Set the camera on a stand/mount/wall - something that will hold it steady (no hand-held pics, please), and use the self-timer, so you don't have to physically touch the phone. Then take the same pic using the timer, rotating it 180 degrees.
Basically, I need a couple of comparison pics where I can rule out any other external factors. Take a pic of some objects at, say, 2m to 4m away (or 5 to 10 ft). Blank wall is no good, as there isn't any details to see blurring. If you have time, take a few sets of pics of different objects/background. Makes it a bit easier to judge with more data.

Cool, sorry I've been a bit busy, it's probably going to be impossible for me to do this in natural sunlight as by the time I leave work it's already dark!

Hi there, ur advice is apreciated, but dont u think that any fone sitting on a stand with a superior lighting conditions will get the pic 100% right ?
In my case m not having any distortion but rather lots of blurr, and i think the reason for this is bcuz once u snap the pic it takes abt 1 sec to 1.5 sec to fully take the pic.

Woah, calm down bre.
Ok here are some pics
Ok, thought I'd upload some photos.
I'm not a pro
Just an average joe.
They were all done with superior auto.
I don't think I have the blurring issue due to the misaligned lens.
Low light performance is an absolute abomination though (I don't have any because I delete them) Does anyone want to share camera settings with me that allows for decent low light performace?
