[Q] Remote play over the internet - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to use remote play over the internet on the z3? I dont have a z3 yet but should have one soon and a big selling point for me was remote play. Today i have been thinking that it may be possible to use remote play on it out and about (assuming fast enough internet speed, which mine should be). Even if there isnt an official way it should be possible with something like a vpn to convince eveything they are on the same network. What seems like it could be the biggest problem is how the controller connects. If it is direct to the ps4 then I cant see any way to work but if it through the phone it seems possible at the very least.

It's really easy to connect a ds4 controller to your Xperia z3 through Xperia connectivity in settings. No wires involved.
Im almost certain the ds4 connects to Xperia z3 and not the ps4. Otherwise it wouldn't really be remote play.
Now connecting through other nets we'll just have to wait and see. But after seeing a few youtube videos showing it work almost perfectly without any sort of lag or delay I too cannot wait.
Edit: not yet released should be coming November.

I am really looking forward to my Z3 and to remote play (I don't have a vita). But I really hope it will be possible to use it out of the house. It is not something I have thought about before and it isn't a deciding factor on the phone, but now that the thought has crossed my mind I really truly want it to happen ☺

Anyone tried the new Onlive app?

Curious if anyone has tried Onlive on the Plus yet? I have it installed, but keep getting connection errors.
Yep, worked fine on my Tab7+, was on wifi (Comcast) at the time. Pretty compelling app, may have to try going through a game or two on it.
My Tab dislikes my work wifi, so I'm hoping it will work when I get on my home network. I'm curious if controller support only works with the new Onlive controller or if it will work with a PS3 controller too.

I think it's only onlive controller. Don't know if there is a workaround.
Onlive
Wouldnt work on my work network, oddly enough (Business class). However at home it let me in. Menus are laggy as all hell. Gameplay was acceptable at times, however there are lag spikes which cause slowdown and than super speed while it catches up. Very dependent on your network speed. Was still quite a thrill playing these games in the palm of your hand though.
Yeah, it's definitely not perfect, but hopefully a sign of good things to come. It would be great for some turn based games like Civ.
OnLive worked quite well for me... I think it's highly dependant on internet speed / latency though. (I have 50mb up/50mb down and 7ms ping)
Controls on the touchscreen are limited. If you're going to do it serious I'd get an onlive controller.
I bought the Onlive controller, it'll arrive tomorrow. Will let everyone know if it works with the tab.
Hello all,
Just want to give you a quick status update:
1). Onlive App works flawlessly on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7+
2). I bought the Wireless controller, pair it via Bluetooth with my GT7+ and it works
3). I can start Onlive app, play Lego Batman (FREE if you register) and use the Wireless controller to play.
The wireless controller, once connected to Bluetooth, can even control the GT+. I use Go Launcher and I can move left and right to different screen, play music by pressing the "Play" button on the controller, etc.
So now I can play pretty much ANY games on Onlive via my GT7+. Lego batman, Just Cause 2, and HomeFront multiplayer.
One thing to note: pairing the BT requires following the instructions in here.
Once it's done, it's a breeze!

Streaming issues(please help)

Hey everyone just got my shield I'm very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the gamepad. So I've run into an issue when I try to stream certain games that are supposed to be supported. What will happen is I choose a game i.e borderlands 2 and my computer goes to load but it gets stuck on a screen with the shield logo and the mouse will show loading but nothing will happen however when I try to stream through steam everything works just fine thank you guys in advance for helping out

It's hard to understand what you are talking about here. If you can load through steam big picture, and it works more reliably, then just stick to using that. The individually supported games (outside of big picture mode) are a convenience in case you aren't logged in to steam, but ultimately, using Steam Big Picture on this is quick and works VERY well. Of course, there are bugs and kinks, but for BETA software, it's impressive. Occasionally, I find that the GeForce experience application will "lose" the streaming feature, and requires a computer reboot.
Also, I find it best to launch the PC streaming while in a strong wireless network environment (i.e., closer to your router), then move to a distance farther away. Launching and getting the initial sync seems to be very dependent on network strength initially...once launched, the setup seems to handle streaming glitches better.
For example, I generally have a hard time launching from my 3rd story bedroom so I move downstairs, launch, then head back up stairs and it works great. I have no idea why I can stream reliably upstairs, but often have trouble getting streaming to launch initially!
Thanks for taking time to help you seem to be picking up what I'm putting down I tried again the other day and it worked OK, the entire streaming seems a little inconsistent at times. Just out of curiosity would it be significantly more stable if the geforce PC was connected through a hard wire?
P.S I just got VPN working can't wait to try it out

Way more reliable to use an ethernet cable yes. I personally believe a person should always attempt to go ethernet first and only use WiFi for devices which are by their nature portable or if there is no way to practically route a cable there. My desktop is shamefully on wifi as I would have to run the cable through the dining room, hall, up some stairs, across a hallway and across my room. Going through walls is not so much an option in a house thought to be 150 to 200 years old, however I do have thin walls so get a great WiFi signal at least.
WiFi has significantly higher latency than a hardwired ethernet cable.
Only advantage of wifi really is the lack of a cable. Makes things quite straightforward.
every time i try to stream it kicks me off the game shortly after it starts. i have the newest update and i have the newest drivers and steam beta, i even tried the optimus fix just in case. but games just won't stay connected. my pc is hardwired(1gbps). i'm thinking its my router which is saddening because it works nearly flawless for everything else in my house(the router). its N300 and gbps wired but its not 5ghz..

Shield TV/Tablet + Shared Controller?

Heya folks! Looking to buy the TV bundle instead of getting the 60€ controller separately.
Now from what I understand is that the controller uses Wifi instead of BT which leads to my next question: is switching output (TV/Tablet) possible on the fly or do you need to change device like with BT setups?
Don't answer unless you got both devices and do this (if possible), as any other way is meaningless to me. I already have a PS3 controller which I only use for my desktop/laptop so it defeats the purpose in case anyone is trying to recommend that.
edit: in nearly January I will pick up a Shield TV and try this out myself. So until then, keeping my fingers crossed!
It can only be paired with one device at a time so you do have to change it when switching devices. However it is quick and easy to do.
Is there like a quick switch function avail, or do you need to pair it each time (i.e like BT devices)?
Figuring I would keep the controller connected at home to the TV and once it's out of reach, it would switch over to the Tab.

Screen Mirroring HDCP with Windows 10

I've been trying to screen mirror with my computer running Windows 10, however I get this error every time I connect.
'The output device does not support HDCP. You can only mirror unprotected content of the following applications:
Xperia Home, Video, Music or Walkman, Settings.'
My computer definitely supports HDCP so I'm pinpointing it to the phone.
I've looked around and it seems it can be fixed by rooting, but currently we lose DRM if we root the XZP.
Is there any other way around this to get screen mirroring working?
Wish my Windows 10 has Screen Mirroring Lucky hopefully someone can help you.
Im sure this happened with my xperia Z2 or maybe my brothers one plus one when I tried it with one of those. Also I tried it with my XZ Premium and it didnt even connect properly. That was on a different pc though. Think it was just bad connection didnt bother trying it again. Maybe this might have better support in Oreo. Otherwise if a drm fix comes sooner than Oreo then we could maybe use root.

Did you get this working if you have rooted your device?

Help making a app that uses Steelseries Stratus Duo controller 2.4ghz usb reciever?

Hey there! i was at my local store looking for a controller and came across the Steelseries Stratus Duo, i got it and brought it home hoping that it would work nicely with my phone, the exact opposite was true, i was using Bluetooth
and it had horrible lag and often times disconnected i tried to fix the lag and connection drops, nothing worked.
And sense this has no way to update firmware (at-least at the moment) on the Bluetooth side, i am not able to use it in that mode.
I have tested this on multiple devices, some carrying the bt 5.0 chip some with bt 4.2 and some with bt 4.1
the controller says it is using a Bt 4.1 chip (that's what it says on the box)
all exhibit the same issue's as noted above. most if not all are supposed to be compatible, but all of them are glitchy. with this controller.
So i was understandably disappointed, not wanting to return the controller,i tried out something, if you have ever used steam link app for android and plugged in a USB controller? if so the application will ask you if you want to use it with your device? you can choose yes or no, i tried it and was really surprised that it worked as well as it did, absolutely no issues with lag nor random connection drops.
just REALLY SOLID PERFORMANCE.
So, that gave me an idea, what if i made a stand alone application that allows us to use the included USB receiver with android?
and add extra functionality on top of it. such as emulating other controllers for better app compatibility.
I was looking for a driver or something that can pull access from that receiver. something i can integrate into my project.
As far as i know the controller is just seen as a Xbox 360 controller so i was wondering if there is a Pre-made driver for integration with apps, that would save me a lot of time and would simplify the process quite a bit.
The app will be free and will be given to people on my discord and on host sites.
Here's a link to the discord server i created.
nevermind its not letting me post links (thats fine)
I created the discord server because other people are having this issue as well.
and that's where all the progress will be recorded. also if you have this controller and are experiencing issues you can join too!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
