I'm planning to buy a new android phone and my budget is 200 to 250 EUR.
The component thats bugging me a lot is the GPU. I am seeing old Adreno 200 GPUs on new phones like the Desire V.
#1-So is it really a factor that affects the overall performance of the phone?
#2-And which is the best?
I have seen phones equipped with Mali 400MP,Adreno 200,205,220 and 225,SGX 540...and those Tegra chips from LG Optimus Series.
Which one is the best?
#3-And the phone on my mind is Desire X(will be released soon),and many pages say that it comes with an Adreno 203 chip. Now whats Adreno 203?
And hows its performance?
Guys...

GPU's are not the biggest factor no, as long as the CPU and RAM is enough overall performance will not be effected by the GPU.
Some games that are very 3D intensive would befit from a more powerful GPU yes, and for some games the Tegra 3 chip allows for better shading and water effects etc
thanks zac
GPU are saparated ram allocated for gaming..
More the gpu better the gaming performance...
It means 400mali is better than 200 adreno..
Other thing gpu does not effects over all performance but it effects clarity of graphics and display visualiTy...
So in 250 eur.
I Think galaxy S2 is good choice..
Good processor
Good gpu
Good screen resolution..
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.
i think ram comes first.
larger ram can make your phone work smoother(except games).
thanks
ok guys :good:

Actually its both . RAM also has a major impact on games. The better the GPU, the lower the impact on the RAM since the device won't need to be put under too much "strain" to process the graphics (also requiring a good CPU).
GPU IS IMPORTANT FOR SMOOTH OS PERFORMANCE. The current OS uses GPU acceleration to smooth things out ig. ICS and JB. Many ROMS also enable GPU to increase performance throughout the OS. If you have a snapdragon, then it uses RAM from the phone for RAM on the GPU where as Tegra has it's own dedicated RAM for its GPU.

The no. in the card's name does not reflect the ram it has.It reflects the model number. And of course the Mali mp-400 is better than the Adreno 200.It performs better than the Tegra 2.
Here's the performance order of previous generation chips :
Mali Mp-400>PowerVR SGX 540>Adreno 205 >> Tegra 2.
Maybe the Adreno 205 isn't THAT much better than the Tegra 2,but the Tegra 2 is highly over-rated,and the Mali mp-400 pulls cleanly ahead of it.

oh..thanks for the info...
So you are saying that Tegra chips come with its own inbuilt RAM?
So...much mbs of RAM(or RAM equivalent or whatever) is in a Tegra chip?

I think it's 64MB or something like that for the Tegra 2.Doesn't really matter though. If you get anything better than the Adreno 200,it's good.
do Samsung galaxy mini has GPU?
Go for Tegra 3, mate

Yes, it does have a GPU. It has an Adreno 200.
You know, I have been using for some time a(pretty old by now) LG Optimus One. It has an Adreno 200 GPU and an ARMv6 600 Mhz CPU.
Even if I overclock it to 800Mhz and maximize the ROM performance in every way possible, GTA3 for example runs pretty much non-playable(very low FPS).
The Optimus One uses a Qualcomm MSM7227 SoC(2009). But in 2011 Qualcomm released the MSM7227A(used for example in Galaxy Mini 2) which also has an Adreno 200 for GPU, but it uses a much better ARMv7 800Mhz Cortex-A5 CPU. The GPU coupled with this much more capable CPU handles GTA 3 really good, playable without problems.
That's really interesting to me, to say the least. It's like you would have a good video card in your PC, but it was bottlenecked by the CPU. And Adreno 200 is quite old.

It has an enhanced Adreno 200.That's how it gets better graphics score in AnTuTu.And I'm surprised you can't run GTA3.I can play Dead Space no lag on my Wildfire S,even at stock, and that looks just as intensive as GTA3.
Although I do agree the CPU might be a bottleneck,it shouldn't affect 3D gaming. The UI becomes really smooth @ 825Mhz,which surprises me as it lags in comparison at even 806Mhz.
Dead Space also runs very good on Optimus One, GTA 3 is much more demanding.
It has to do with the fact that GTA is an open world game which requires more background processing rather than current processing that the majority of android games use. I believe that the CPU does the background processing which is why it lags. This also explains why the galaxy mini can play GTA while having a similar clocked CPU, the architecture.
soo
Soo is the desire x better than tegra 2?
Or more detailt
Htc desire x is it better than my lg optimus 2x.
Htc has more ram. But i dont like that i has the adreno 203 is it ****?
Help plz
Hi!
I wanted to try getting a samsung s3 clone. Already spotted some phone is our place having better specs but still I can decide which should I go that's why Im posting here to ask everyone who had tried this kind of phones.
My first choice and what I'm really been eyeing :
- QUAD-CORE ARMv7 PROCESSOR(VFPv3,NEON)
- SCREEN RESOLUTION: 720 x 1280
- GPU RENDERER: POWERVR SGX 531
- GPU VERSION (OPENGL): OPENGLE ES 2.0
- ANTUTU SCORE : 9789
Cant really tell exactly whats the actual CPU used but antutu doesnt detect it as any MTK cpu. The specs is really impressive except that it uses and SGX 531 for gpu at 720. I wonder if I could play NOVA 3 with this phone.
Second choice :
- CPU: Mediatek MT6577 1.4Ghz ( Dual Core )
- GPU: Mali 400 ( Quad GPU )
- RAM: 512MB DDR3
- Resolution: 720 x 1280 ( 16M Colors )
- Antutu Score : 6745
This phone has less impressive CPU but the gpu used is quite superior than of the first one. Seen someone using this and able to run NOVA 3. I know benchmark tools are not as realistic than of the actual use.
Both phones have :
- RAM: 512MB DDR3
- Storage: 4GB ROM ( 2.5GB Usable / Expandable up to 32GB Micro SD Card )
- Camera: Dual Camera 8MP Back & 1.3MP
- Connectivity: 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS
- SIM Card: Single SIM ( 1 Micro SIM )
- Operating System: Android v4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich
I really prefer to get the first one since its a quad-core and it scores a whooping 9k in antutu its only drawback is that it uses SGX531 gpu. Anybody tried playing HD games at 720p resolution with SGX531 gpu? Please tell me if NOVA 3 is playable in my first choice or should I trade the cpu for better gpu and get the second one?
Also, I was already able to watch this VIDEO i wonder if quadcore would make a difference in gameplay.
Thanks in advance for the response! :highfive:
any idea guys?

Don't buy sgx531, it's a low end gpu by today's standard. Mali400 is ALOT better and can play most games.
It's not point buying a quadcore cpu paired with a low end gpu, basically you will suffer at games.
I agree with tablighs...
I'm looking to buy a lower mid-ranged phone for basic use and maybe some gaming, nothing really intensive. What bothers me is the GPUs in these 3 models cause I don't know much about them and I can't seem to find any benchmarks.
Phones I'm looking to buy are:
LG Optimus L7 II (P710) with 1GHz DualCore, 768MB RAM, Adreno 203, 480x800, 2460mAh
Alcatel One Touch Idol 6030 with 1GHz DualCore, 1GB RAM, PowerVR SGX 531, 540 x 960, 1000mAh
Huawei Ascend G510 with 1.2GHz DualCore, 512MB RAM, Adreno 203, 480x854, 1700mAh
As I said I'm gonna do slight gaming and I was wondering what is the better GPU? Adreno 203 or PowerVR SGX 531, I don't know nothing about them and resolutions are different so It's kinda difficult. I watched some YT videos and they seem to perform well, but it's still not clear how much. What would you recommend?
@srtjko,
I think Adreno 203 is better than PowerVR SGX 531
But you can do an in-depth Google Search to find out which one is the better GPU...
Pro tip: Do a comparison for other things like CPU, RAM, Battery, Camera, Screen Size and Resolution to find out which one of the 3 phones you listed above suits you the most....
Which chipset is better suited for gaming overall?
All tablets that I'm looking at have 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM.
MTK(1.2Ghz, Quad) has PowerVR SGX544 single core(MP) graphics chip @ 300Mhz.
Intel(1.2Ghz, Dual) has PowerVR SGX544 dual core(MP2) graphics chip @ 300Mhz.
Allwinner(1Ghz, Quad) has a custom PowerVR Series5XT SGX544 dual core(MP2) graphics chip @ 355Mhz.
I would appreciate reviews/opinions based on actual user experience.
Purely for gaming, and I'm not talking about Facebook games or social stuff, I mean like - Heroes of Order & Chaos, Real Racing 3(on Medium at least), Asphalt 8: Airborne, etc.
Bump.
Hi Guys,
It been an awesome experience of being part of Xda.. Now i got few Doubts in my mind... I would like to know about few comparisons...
Snapdragon S4 1.5 Quad Core & Adreno 320 Vs Snapdargon 400 1.2 Quad Core & Adreno 305.
Which one has more power like while playing heavy games like Asphalt 8 Modern combat 5 etc.
Also Which of this phone is best...?
Nexus 4 and Moto G 2nd gen
my Preferences are for Performance Graphics etc, Software updates And Storage. (internal storage i meant. Usable).
Thanks in advance
