[Q] file browse phone, but cannot use/see LCD display??

Okay I looked far and wide for a solution to my problem before making this thread. I have officially ran dry of any further ideas. Basically this is my problem.

I can only try to get this started since I'm leaving town in about 1/2 hour, so maybe this'll help or I hope so:
If the phone is otherwise working OK, and the reason there's "NO SDCARD" is because you didn't physically put one in, then you've still got hope to grab stuff from the internal /sdcard, or anyplace internal. I suppose you must have had USB debugging turned off on the phone. OK: Here is one possible path but it depends on this question:
Can you get to the fastboot screen: (I think on Razr HD, it is +-(Vol) and (Pwr) simultaneously for a few seconds, then let go, wait a few seconds and go to wherever you keep fastboot or mfastboot (and probably adb). On my system it is in /android-system-sdk/platform-tools/. If you need it you can google it and get those tools for your platform (PC/MAC). Instructions once you get a device number back from this: "fastboot devices":
- Get a copy of Philz Touch (maybe other recoveries do the same thing, but I know Philz does) and put it in that same folder as the platform-tools.
- If you got the fastboot devices OK, then try to flash the recovery which will be like this: "fastboot flash recovery {name_of_recovery_above}"
- Using fastboot, do "fastboot reboot-recovery", wait .. , when recovery has booted might see something in systray, but more importantly,
"adb devices" should now return a device number. Adb doesn't require anything(settings) from the phone since the phone is in recovery mode.
- assuming a lot of success ^^ , do this:
- adb shell
- su
- ls /sdcard/* and look at the output for files on the sdcard. (It should be internal sdcard, not your external non-installed one)
- /sdcard should be mounted in recovery since recovery uses it so continuing may be kind of obvious now.
- find what you want to save on /sdcard
- make sure you either can see it on the screen or cut and paste it somewhere (notepad whatever).
- type in exit, then exit, out of adb, back to shell, or cmd.
- do this to get your stuff: "adb pull /sdcard/{your stuff}" #note: If you do it by folder name, it'll just be transferrred to that same platform-tools folder.

If I can get my phone to turn off, then yes I can get it into fast boot. However, since I cannot use the touch screen, I dont think I can select the option to power the phone down. I know how to reset it though, so is there any possible chance that I can still get into hboot from resetting the phone the holding the key combination???

I do not have a m/HD anymore. But by holding all keys from the booted up state. About 5 sec of holding then toggle pwr off, on then off while continuing to hold vol +, -. This will call the bootloader. Ap fastboot is there. Search for a screen shot. Vol - to scroll too + to select. On 4.1.2 anyway.

By all keys do you mean Power + VOL- + VOL+? All at same time?

Yes. On the last pwr/toggle off, release vols too.

Not sure what else you could do if you are in camera mode.
At least you should be able to pull all your photos off. I would think that would be pretty important.
The only other thing is to replace the screen.

I have overcome this same problem with a different phone using an HD dock, the type that has the USB ports and hdmi on the back. Plug the phone into TV with hdmi, plug a mouse into a USB port on the dock.
Give me a few minutes to track down some pics.

Try to touch your screen while your HDMI is connected and displayed on your TV to confirm if your digitizer is working or not.
To navigate, try billycar11's suggestion with an otg cable and mouse?
Edit: you might want to try different sections of your screen for touch input response.

I did this once with a micro HDMI cable and a USB OTG adapter with a wireless keyboard/mouse combo plugged into it. Worked like a charm.

[Q] Broken Screen Need To Get Files

My girlfriend dropped her phone and it works but you cannot see anything on the screen because its cracked. She has a passcode lock on it when it boots up and i have no idea how to get her pictures and videos off of it. If anyone can give me some ideas of how to do this that would be awesome. She has some important pictures on there that she woulld like back.

If touch works, you could try going through the movements to enter the passcode and hope it works.
If touch doesn't work, is the bootloader unlocked? If so, boot into recovery. If you use a custom recovery like TWRP, you should have ADB access and will be able to access files on the virtual /sdcard. I don't think you can get into ADB on stock recovery, but doesn't hurt to try.
If you can't get into ADB through recovery, was USB Debugging enabled on the phone? If so, you might be able to get the files through ADB that way.

You'll need ADB access to use it, however.
If this phone has never been hacked, rooted, and USB debugging never enabled, I think you would just have to replace the screen. It's actually pretty easy on these phones.

Yea she's not into this at all so it is bone stock and USB debugging is not enabled. Could I somehow get a USB OTG cable and hook a hdmi cable into to get the screen to show up on a tv or something? Wish the damn thing had removable memory.

Unfortunately, these phones don't have HDMI out.
It does, however, have USB OTG so you're onto something! Try plugging in a USB keyboard. I just tried setting a passcode and I can enter it using a keyboard.

Windows 10 - USB Device Not Recognised - Phone Still Charges (Sometimes)

Hello,
For a while now, my phone when connected to the PC at home, it says USB Device not recognised - however the phone says charging on the screen, so it indicates that it is working somehow (i guess) - most likely it isn't working - the same cable wire works perfectly fine when charging the phone via the wall plug.
Anyone having/had problems like this before? Everything on the PC is up to date. When i connect the phone to the PC at work, i can access the phone memory/pictures etc, the USB cable is not the one i use at home, tried the cable wire on 2 laptops and the phone is still not being recognised. So is the problem with the USB cable wire?
I'll have to check the USB cable wire that is at work (original OP) on my home PC and see if that makes any difference. I'm trying to access the phone via PC and take some screenshots (quite a lot) - Any pointers where i can start debugging?
Android 6.0.1
Cyanogen OS 13.1.2 (bacon)
Battery Status: Not charging (In the status settings)

Think i've got it working now - well it works for my brothers phone - he had issues getting his phone recognised on the PC.
Following this YouTube video seems to have resolved the problem for him, pretty sure that issue will no longer apply to my phone.

Also, looks like the USB cable wire is faulty, so i've ordered a new one and going to check that to see if it picks up the phone on my home PC.

yes , the direct. i thought its my cable , but when i try on other laptop , its working.

Also had some issues with Android and Windows 10 recently. There was always some kind of issue with the MTP driver, so it showed up with an exclamation mark in device manager. Have you tried reinstalling the MTP driver? You can do that by navigating to C:\Windows\INF, right-click wpdmtp.inf and click install.
That's what fixed it for me.

Android USB file transfer no longer working?

Hi, it seems like the function to transfer files via USB is not working anymore with my phone, last time I transferred files was 2 months ago.
-Under Advanced Developer Options, "USB configuration" is set to "MTP"
-Tried with different cables to PC which used to work.
-Tried with OTG wire to read USB flash drive that used to work. (flash drive has light when plugged in PC, doesn't have light on when using OTG, no notification in Android that something has been plugged in)
-Tried turning on/off the phone.
-The only thing that work is charging phone.
What I believe is either one of the two following reason:
-Some setting changed and that's why it's not working.
-Port is now defective.
I don't remember changing any setting or downloading any new app in the last two months. Do you guys know anything else I can try or a solution? Thanks

Yeah it looks like the port is damaged (if file transfer doesn't work in any way possible)
Maybe try to go get it fixed by a local qtore, and if you have nothing around, try to check if the brand doesn't repair those things for cheap.

Try cleaning the port, sometimes, a combination of lint and dust gets compacted into the port and prevents the cable from making a good connection.

Thank you for your replies, I cleaned the port but sadly, it still doesn't work and quotes to repair this problem are expensive.
An alternative I found is to transfer my files to PC is via bluetooth to my PC via a USB adapter, seems cheaper.

Question S22 ultra samsung dex

My s22 ultra suddenly does not work on dex. Theres no way to access the sd via a pc either.
I was using this exact setup and it worked fabulously.
As far as i know i went to bed one night and it didnt work the next time i went to use dex.

Reboot phone and pc? Is the phone recognised when connected? Try another cable, does it work on a different pc. Do other USB devices connect ok etc etc

i have rebooted both phone and pc. Same cable as when it did work infact the samsung original that came with the s22. My s9+ does not connect. Both phones DO charge via usb c.
I have infact reinstalled my pc and resest my phone to factory trying to fix this.
Still to no avail.

Does it connect to another pc? Usb pc hub might have failed

its a brand new laptop and it does power the phones. and it all did work fine. i can even power my usb c vape through the same port
there is not an alternative machine to test on

actually i just thaught of this, the last night i was using it i had the standard popup on my phone asking to allow dex to run. An ok responce and cancel or not now responce, i dont remember exactly.
Could this have done something if i hit cancel

also could there be something in the pc bios i may have not realized could effect this. Since i was on the same night trying to boot to a usb linux pendrive

Ok so ive even reset the bios to system defaults and tried a regular usb to usb-c and still nothing

could it have anything to do with the phone usb connection settings. When you plug in a usb otg it normally would give an option for transfer or charge etc on the phones pull down menu and all its doing is saying fast charging

Absolutely everything else works through usb mate.

What else can you access via USB. Drives, devices?

well i can access the standard usb port with an sd card reader. read write and even installed windows off it. So this usb to usb c should work fine.
If it were just the usb c hub blown this would not be the case.

im currently trying to see if i can run a lubuntu through usb bootable key and try to access the usb c ports from that.
I have been reading about my laptop and apparently it has a reputation of usb issues. lenovo x1 yoga gen 2 on win 10

Solved. During a bios update it appears the bios setting for thunderbolt usb-c was changed to disabled. As soon as i discovered this and rebooted it worked so if anyone is having issues with this they may want to check there bios settings.
4 days of struggling over. Dang its nice to beat a computer once in a while.

Do you have Link to Windows enabled on your phone? If so, turn it off and try running DeX.
