Anything aosp would be really nice.

i say we get task and ktoon involved

If I could get a debloated, streamlined stock Rom while aosp gets the kinks worked out if be so happy.

I debloated mine by rooting and installing ROM Toolbox. Got rid of everything including the Launcher and replaced it with Google Now launcher and uninstalled everything off of that list of "safe to remove" apps. Even got rid of the IQ crap. It runs gloriously now, almost like GPE. The only thing driving me crazy is the stupid square icons for the Phone and Contacts against all the standard icons.

Slim

Yeah. Anything stock would be great, and of course Android L sooner

I would love to see an international based ROM cause it wouldn't have carrier IQ. But I would be just as happy to see a streamlined stock with carrier IQ removed ??

SlimKat

I side loaded the new Google Play with the material design and I too would love to get all kinds of L on my phone.

I'm going to go off topic, because I started the thread and i can do that
Did anybody seriously contemplate selling their AT&T model for a t-mo just to have the unlocked bootloader to begin with? I, for one, learned a valuable lesson with my Galaxy S5, I sold my att one for a t mo and Not only was it a Hassel but then I came to find out that the phone got black listed on t-mobile which made it un sellable on swappa (where I bought the phone to begin with) THEN the att one was unlocked like a month later. my lesson was, BE PATIENT. these devs are unbelievable and are capable of just about anything. We all win today. HAPPY UNLOCKED DAY MY G3 FLASHAHOLICS.
One more huge THANK YOU to all the hard working devs that made ask this possible

[Q] Your Favorite Rom

I made a thread earlier about my stock rom/s3 screwing up...
So I have decided to flash a new rom.
I'm primilarly looking for something super stable, 100% out of the box ready to go, minimal bugs(non that effect major elements 4g/3g, mms, calling.. etc)
There are so many new roms, and sooo much information on everything it's overwhelming.
I'm coming from the droid x where we just flashed liberty and were happy

I'm new to all this android (I use to own a junk iphone 4) I flashed the most popular roms cm, beans, liquid, etc.. Aokp is by far the best one I like. It's the most customizable. 4G works great, never dropped a call, mms works flawlessly, etc. Also, they just came out with a milestone. U have to flash them and try them all to see what fits ur preferences. Good luck..

Thanks, I'm not looking to try different roms really. I just really like to use my phone to make calls, txt, email, and light browsing.
I'm just trying to switch to something that is really well maintained/supported.
I'll look more into AOKP thanks for the input
Stable Rom? Synergy r64. Can't go wrong with that release.
I have tried synergyrom and it was great. r77. had some locking up. I am a huge fan of the messaging app and a couple things that samsug uses. after using them it is really hard to go away from them. right now i am using cleanrom 3.1D. and it seems to be running great. i would like to add the volume up to change track but cant do so.. hmmm still trying to figure out how to add it.. thanks guys
For ICS touchwiz i loved Synergy, always stable and fast for me. For AOSP i love liquid smooth, again super smooth, super fast, etc.
It won't be long before this thread gets locked btw.
New Liquidsmooth from today is awesome. Been running Liquid Smooth since I got the phone for the most part.

sms droping, verizon apps, bloatware, and a vast majority of other things.

S3 vs. Gnex

OK, so my wife is due for an upgrade here soon, and I love my S3 and suggested she get one too, but she hates TW. She prefers pure Google, so I mentioned the Gnex. She's worried that she's picking a lesser phone since the S3 is obviously the more powerful, and CM isn't quite ready yet. What do you guys think? Go with better hardware in the S3, or stick with what she loves in AOSP with the Gnex?
Sent from a land far away.
Aosp on the s3 isn't really much of an issue, just considering minor bugs.

Yeah I know, and I run it every now and again, so the nuances don't bother me. However she's not the rooting type, and likes things to work out of the box, which is why I suggested it for her since she likes it so much. The Gnex is a great phone, I just think the s3 is better, so it's my opinion against hers basically.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I'd say sgs3. The sgs3 truly is better than the gnex in battery, signal, screen, ram, camera!!, etc. What is it about TW that she doesn't like? There are several themes that make TW look like aosp. There are ROMs that give aosp look from the beginning.

Just the whole Nature theme. I showed her beans' AOSP TW ROM and she seemed to like it. She had the original galaxy s and had so many problems it gave her a bad impression. She loved her nexus s. I told her the s3 has come a very long way since those days, and JB just makes the entire experience even better. I hope she comes around. The Gnex had its moment, and I agree that the s3 is a much more superior device.
Sent from a land far away...
She also has to remember that the Nexus is now a little over a year old. Unfortunately, two years is about it, in phone life these days. If that.
Well GSIII is (hardware wise) the better phone, you should encourage her to use Beans Build 8 on your GSIII a bit more. I've been using each since Build 2 and the rom has only improved with time and various UI tweaks. I even found a thread on how to enable the nav bar on TW so it's great for me. I'm sure AOSP on here is great but personally its not a perfect substitute for a Nexus.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
S3 for sure. Even though the S3 comes with TouchWiz by default, there are ways to get rid of it. As previously stated, you could put an AOSP rom on her phone (Such as CyanogenMod or AOKP), or you could use Bean's rom. If she doesn't care about the whole phone being TouchWiz, and she just doesn't want her homescreen to be that way, you could always simply use another launcher from the play store such as Apex or Nova.
Go with the S3 for sure. Better specs, along with the ability to use either TouchWiz, AOSP, or a mix of both. On the Galaxy Nexus you are limited to only AOSP.
Thanks for all the input guys. You're only reaffirming my thoughts all along. Not only that, but the Gnex is THREE updates behind on Verizon currently, so I already don't like it. I can't believe Verizon can't get their act together with these friggin updates. It's really quite pathetic.
She'll have a shiny new s3 soon. I guarantee it.
Sent from a land far away...
Maybe she will come around to touchwiz on the s3.After having a gnex for a year, I thought I would only use aosp and was crushed when Verizon didn't get the nexus 4. Got the s3 a month and a half ago and I haven't even thought about trying aosp on this because everything just works so nice. If it wasn't for a few key mods that I like, I think I could use the s3 without rooting.

I'll be honest an unrooted S3 has A LOT going on. The notification menu has too many things going on and nearly takes up the whole screen, and the sound effects are annoying after a while. There's also quite a bit of bloat (which is a normal pasttime these days), and as usual it's not removeable. I even trimmed beans' rom down a bit to almost just the bare essentials.
I love this phone and it's a joy to use. Very smooth and fast and having 2GB ram is nice. Looking forward to seeing what Sammy has up its sleeve for the S4.
I installed an AOSP ROM within minutes of activating my S3. Can't stand TW.
There's a pure google 4.2.1 rom under Original Development. AOSP vs TW isn't a reason to pick one phone over another imho. Pick the hardware/form factor that you like then modify as you like.

This may hold true to us here on XDA, but to the tech illiterate like my wife she goes for the looks. Her favorite color is blue, and well... That's all that matters to her. Like I mentioned before, I'm a good husband and won't let her get screwed, so the S3 it is. I'll be rooting it for her and setting it up how she likes it. On the other hand, if I wasn't here, I can guarantee you she'd be picking up a Gnex.

? about aosp ROM's

First of all I'm on Verizon.
I've always used tw roms on my s3 but have been considering trying out a aosp rom and an needing help selecting one.
When reviewing that particular section it seems that carbon is the most popular of the options.
I'm wanting to know the benefits of aosp over tw based roms. One thing I have noticed is that I'm thinking that the Swype feature to either call or message while in you contact list doesn't work on aosp. That's a bummer to me because that's one of if not my favorite features of tw.
Is aosp faster than tw? Is it snappier because of the file size being smaller?
When I had my fascinate I normally ran aosp because, well, that's for the most part all there was to offer once 4.0 came out.
What is in your opinion on the best aosp or aokp rom and why? What should I stay away from?
I appreciate any and all help you guys have to offer.
I look forward to your guy's suggestions.
Thanks and have a great weekend.

I don't think you're going to find much better performance, I believe that most folks go with AOSP simply because they prefer the look and feel. Personally I thought the TW menus were ugly and childish. There are a number of AOSP roms to chose from, if you're new to it then I'd recommend CM10/CM10.1. Make sure to read all of the instructions/documentation first, there are some known issues with certain ROMs and that may turn you off. And of course do a IMEI and nandroid backup first!

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually not big on theming. I guess I've just been wanting to venture out but have read in some instances that people are having data and gps as well as imei problems.
I forgot about flashing slim bean awhile ago, but when I did I lost my imei and it freaked me out. I got it backed up on my computer as well as andromizer.
As far as the aosp theming goes,I don't like the blue at all but have seen some really nice themes on here and some really sharp themes on Google play.
Thanks again and hope more people chime in.
I really really really hope team glitch gets on board at some point. If those dudes start making kernels for this device I'll be sold instantly. That team knows what's up!

Easy Stable Rom Suggestions for GF

Hey Guys,
My girl has been complaining that her phones been slow and laggy and asking me to "fix" her phone.
I want to throw on a custom rom for her, but need something stable and not buggy at all because she can not trouble shoot herself at all.
I run a cherry picked version of Slimbeam on my ATT s3, but don't know what's popular for you Verizon guys.
I was thinking CleanRom for something not too different then what she is used for but wanted to see if anything else is popular.
I think she doesn't need ASOP being so used to Touchwiz, but definitely want something bloat free etc.
Thank for your help getting me some points with the misses,
Alex
Jellybeans v19 has been what I keep coming back to for the S3. TW based.

If your doing TW then JellyBeans or BoneStock. If you want AOSP, Carbon Rom 10/28.
If she wants TW go with BoneStock, my gf loves it with the purple theme. If she wants aosp go Slim.
Been running and updating Beantown's Jelly Bean ROM since it came out for myself and my wife's phone. To say she (my wife) is technically inclined would be the overstatement of the century however she likes it as opposed to stock. Nice aesthetics and customization but close enough to home she won't get lost.

Users are expected to try them and make their own independent determination as to what suits them.

Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
If you want customization, ViperROM is the way to go. It is fast and has so many options and settings it can almost be overwhelming if there were anymore things to explore in their tweaks app. Has some nice themes (although many are not fully compatible yet) as well. For a stock ROM with speed and removed bloatware, I recommend Skyfall. It has been the fastest for me as far as stock roms go. Bonestock is great as well, I just had awful battery life on it (which was my fault but was too lazy to diagnose so i crack flashed something else. Just try them all and see what you like best.
Stock. Everything works and you never have to wipe for an update.

Stock with xposed seems to do the trick for me
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
I've flashed BoneStock and have been really happy with it honestly. I really only wanted the bloatware removed and it did a good job of that.
I haven't tried any others yet though. Stock is actually really, really nice. HTC did a fantastic job with Sense 6.0.
A second vote for Viper! This ROM has been fantastic. Performance is much improved over stock, battery consumption has been lower, and there are so much customization that can be done through Viper One's tweak configuration (including enabling Power Saver mode which Verizon took away, performing an "auto hide" of the navigation bar, adding custom themes and colors, etc.). The devs of this ROM are also VERY responsive. Be sure to make a nandroid back up using CWM or TWRP before flashing any custom ROM, so you have something to go back to if you are not happy.
