Hi,
i just got my Xperia Z3. I was curious and wanted to test the waterproof function. So i dropped it in the sink with al the ports closed of course
The speakers are now sounding strange (muffled) and deformed. I know that the speakers needs to dry up, but it was 3 days ago...
Is there something i can do to cleanup the speakers, or are the speakers now broken?
3 days ago? Yeah I think you might have a problem

You asked for help, I gave a working advice. You don't seem to need it, I remove it.
Lol.
Just wash it again, and kick ass on towel. It will work fine.
Lol washing machine. You made my day.

Try this:
- Get distilled water (you can use the water from a tumble dryer), put it in a bowl.
- Add ONE drop of dishwashing detergent (not more).
- Soak the Z3 in that mixture over night.
- Place bowl with Z3 still inside on a washing machine, put a lot of clothes in, start the spinning program, making sure the bowl cannot drop from the washing machine.
- Get more distilled water, do NOT add any detergent, water the Z3 in a fresh bowl, using some gentle movements.
- Let it dry, speaker side down, making sure the speaker holes are not covered.
Speakers should be ok again.
Explanations:
- Distilled water because it has almost no floating particles.
- Dishwasher detergent because the residues caused by your former experiment hardened, now need to break loose.
- Spinning circle because the movements and vibrations will help loosing the residues. Loading the machine with lots of clothes ensures there will be enough vibrations.

You probably scared any newbie from every buying a Z3 for a water test
hahah, thnx guys, i once had the Xperia Z, same problem...i also tested it in the shower. After 1 day i sold it, and got a Samsung, because is was afraid i had messed up the speakers
I am going to try it again. Lets hope that it starts working again

Classy, assume you told the buyer about this?
Anyway, weird that it still is muffled after a few days. Makes sense that everything has to dry up properly, perhaps put it in a glass with rice or something?

yeah of course, that why is sold it for 200euros instead of the 590
Speakers are now working after washing it with warm water
now that i im thinking...maybe i shouldn't have sold my old Xperia Z and just waited longer or washed it again with warm water
I had the same thing happen to me when I did a water test (fairly sure 90% of the people who buy any Z series will do this on day one, guaranteed)
I noticed the microphone sounded muffled too, I just dropped a drop of rubbing alcohol in each of the ports, let it sit for 10 - 20 seconds and wiped it out with a microfiber cloth. No more distortion!
I just wish that it wasn't necessary every time it gets wet. I bought this phone purely because summer is coming up here in Australia and I wanted something a bit more durable around the beaches!

Some of your didn't learn how to read properly, right ?
I did not suggest to put the Z3 IN the washing machine, but ON the washing machine. This way you'll get some vibrations you'll need for softening any residues sticking to the speakers.
So next time: Read, think, write. Don't skip step 2, even if that breaks up normal habits.
My suggestions DO work. But as the OP crying for help doesn't seem to follow my advice, I don't see any need of leaving it around.

I had the same thing happen and kind of freaked out for a few seconds. I took a shot of compressed air and blew out the headphone jack. Good as new.
Be careful not to take any photos under water. Voids your warranty

The Z3 can only take up to 30 minutes of water. If you soak it overnight it WILL break.
After exposure to water you must open all flaps turn off the device and let it dry for 2 hours everything will work perfectly after!

Hi friends,
Tested out Water proof property of SONY Xperia Z3,
Even after a full month of waiting, the speaker sound was still like ****,
So today, out of desperation, I heated the speakers using the heat from an incandescent bulb,
can't say that they are back to 100 Percent but surely much better sound than from one day ago,...
Gonna heat it some more,...
Hope this helps solve this problem because i know how frustrating it can be !!~ Good luck
P.S - Be careful with how much heat you provide because usually mobile's speakers are made with a thin plastic materia

Hi there,
I have the Sony Smartwatch 2 since it was just released.
I ordered it via the Sony website, so it was delivered from Czech.
Anwyays... the Smartwatch 2 worked pretty fine for me so far.
Unfortunately, I experienced something strange yesterday.
Yesterday I noticed that the on/off button wasn't working properly anymore.
I wondered how this was possible, and then I noticed that the screen was a little bit lifted out of the case.
I could push the screen back in place, and the on/off button worked fine again too, although it seems it comes back up a little bit after a while.
I have seen this before in a video where they showed the watch at a conference, so it seems to be a common issue.
Does anyone have this too? and what did you do to solve it? Because I would hate to send it back.
Right now I'm actually waiting till it comes off a bit more, so I can place a little tip of glue beneath the screen (if there is a safe place for that beneath the screen), so it won't lift up again.
I had it too.
I put a little pinch of glue in the rear of the watch and all is good now.
its not the screen lifting. The actual watch hardware is glued into a frame of the wrist band. The glue is simply coming undone.
Yep, I've been able to completely push the watch out of it's frame.
Used some glue on the frame, and pulled it back in.
Let's hope it stays there now.
The glue that was on it already propably became loose when I took the watch under the shower?
Although... it should not do that, because it's waterproof.
Them problem as with mine, I got the watch off my arm and the clock pops out off the holding

I've been under the shower for a few times with it, so it's definitely waterproof.
Although, that the glue came loose might be the result of that.

This is definitely BS. I shower with it every single day and didn't have any problem at all.

Maybe if you shower 50 minutes with boiling water... I repeat, I think I had like 60 showers with the watch on (and even pressing the power button or tinkering with the screen to change song etc.) and zero problems.

Not BS. I just received my replacement watch. I felt the original vibrate, looked down, and watched the screen fade out. Never to come back after 4 days of drying it out with a small fan on it.
I am rubbing silicone grease in the cracks and charge plug on the replacement. I ride a motorcycle year round. I need some water resistance and my first one had very little.

It's my first Sony device, so it's not a good device to impress people who are new to Sony hahaha.
But I love the Smartwatch though
SONY is for target practice. You spend about $750 on their latest technology and then have it work for about 2 years at the most, then put it up on a pedestal to play target practice with your new .9mm. You get to vent the frustrations of buying such an expensive and overpriced device and promise yourself you won't do it again.
When they talk about cheaply designed, overpriced, Chinese assembled items on Black Friday, they are talking about SONY.
I saw posts before about screens popping out, but thought it was just that and hoped it wouldn't happen to mine
wish I had read this topic before, I have the exact same thing, this build quality is REALLY poor
seems this is happening to quite a few people, I think they used the wrong glue
would certainly explain why the watch isn't waterproof for everyone
I have a problem with my watch, I broke the screen and I cant find the replacement, if you have a unusable sw2 maybe you can sell me the part that I need, please PM with any response, thanks
Question for all of you; I just got a case (Diztronic) and a couple of screen protectors for my new Nexus 5
One of the screen protectors I got was the Xtreme Guard type (very wet application type). I have used this type before, though I always worried that using a lot of water to apply it could possibly get into the phone and damage it.
After I applied it (while turned off, of course), I didn't quite like it (I know you're supposed to wait a few days, but I was impatient, and another brand is coming in the mail, the overly-priced Zagg model), so I removed it, cleaned the screen, shook the phone a bit to try to get any water out that might have gotten into the speaker hole, blew air from some canned air into the speaker hole (not right up next to it, but reasonably close) and left it overnight under a warm lamp.
Yes, paranoid about my new phone. *sheepish look*
In any case, I was reading various things, with people saying "I damaged my speaker by the water getting in there" and "Blowing air into the speaker hole will damage the speaker" and "Putting it under a hot lamp will damage the speaker" etc.
Have you ever heard of ANY of those things damaging the speaker or the phone? I'm all paranoid now. I'm using it today and it seems no worse for wear, and the speaker (ear speaker) seems to be working fine, but I'm all like "Huh, did it sound JUST like that before I did all of the above?" etc.
Any past experiences or advice you'd like to chime in on? Anyone got a close-up look at the faceplate of the Nexus 5 and know if the speaker whole actually is reasonably waterproof, etc?
I looked at this disassembly video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzUj3fpI994 - and I still couldn't quite tell.

i dont know if this applies to the nexus 5 speaker but
i have gotten water on my galaxy s4s speaker 3 times.
once when i just got out of the shower, a single drop of water rolled down my arm and landed on my speaker.
the second time while i was in the shower. it started raining and water blew in through the window.
the third time i was doing dishes and water splashed.
and after all this, each and every time all i did was take out the battery, let it sit for a few hours. and after that the phone worked perfectly.dont blow air, dont throw it in the oven (ive seen people do this) just let it sit and dont play any sounds.
I decided to test my phone in a sink of water tonight. It is still on and working fine. Typing this on it. However, the speaker is now jacked. It's cracky sounding and very low volume when turned all the way up. Really freaking sucks. ..taking in for exchange in the morning.
I wondered what woukd happen with headphone jack and speaker...now you know.
That's probably because there's water in the speaker, but doesn't mean it's damaged. Have you tried waiting until it's dry?
I'll give it to the morning and see how it sounds. ..i just did it an hour ago.
I think it needed water proof jacket... Anyone have it ?
Even it is a water resistant ill rather avoid it on water.
Well I woke up this morning and the speaker was fine. Guess it just needs time to dry.

You should probably change the topic now...
I'll do that later. Phone is 100% again. I was worried. Speaker sounded like crap.
Water test on day one? You're brave. VZW won't replace if there's water damage. I had the Casio Commando, that was built to be waterproof, that somehow got water damage, and they wouldn't replace it.

I have the full equipment insurance. It should cover anything. I've always wanted a waterproof phone. Had to try it.

I figured once it dried it would be OK. Just think how water droplets would affect a tight piece of plastic the is reverberating (speaker). Not good.
Hi,
I put my new Z5 under a faucet, but after I dried up the handset I found water on the surface of the back camera. I tested and everything looks good and functions well, except the back camera only gives blurred images. In an hope that water would evaporate, I tried heating the camera cautiously with a drier, but it doesn't change much. Now I'm just letting the phone sit in a dry&airy place.
Does anyone have any good advice?
My only suggestion would be to chuck in a bowl of rice (uncooked of course)
and never let any phone get wet again!
We really need to put this "waterproof phone" myth to bed. You mix water and electronics at your peril.
Well guys, problem sooooooolved
I put the phone on my macbook-bacon-toaster-pro, and moisture promptly disappeared. Shoutout to adobe for never solving the overheating problem on mac running flash players
but the whole waterproof thing seems proven a myth
Mine has been fine under water and so has others same as my Xperia Z so where is the myth?

Did you not notice the OP? And there sure are a darn bunch o' folk piping up about the whole Z series over the years. No reason to think the Z5 will be different. Your Z5 seems to be fine for now. I'm not getting mine wet - same as every other phone I've had.

You get your phone wet, you take your chances.
Man I've had Z1, 2, 3 and 5 and taken all of them in swimming pools and showers. My phone gets coated with dust at work everyday and I wash it with soap and water daily. I'm not disagreeing that people obviously aren't so confident/lucky but I've never had a problem. My friend had a foggy rear lense once and the solution was to open the flap for ventilation and turn in 4k video for a bit.
So you've never had a problem with water but your friend did. I'm not sure I'm getting my point across...
I'm very careful about checking and re-checking the waterproof flaps. All I'm saying is, for me, it's a major feature and I intend to use it and have without issue. I just want the OP to here the other side. That's all.
If you go in the pool with one why not just put it inside a plastic clear bag? Chances are water will not get in and even if it did the phone is IP68 rated so water shouldn't be an issue anyway.

+1 to this sentiment. I think it's possibly advertised as 'water resistant' rather than waterproof, but semantics aside, you'd have to be daft to assume that you can repeatedly dunk your phone in water/swimming pools/whatever and have it work perfectly. The IP rating should be seen as a degree of protection and not a blank cheque guaranteeing the phone will survive.
I've used an Xperia Z to take photos in a swimming pool before, but been careful to keep the phone above the water, and tried to ensure it remained as dry as possible. The IP rating was nice to know that the phone would probably survive the odd splash but I didn't think it meant that it would work (and continue to work) fully submerged.
Similar issue with my z5 compact

Hello,
Would you mind elaborating on what you did exactly to solve this issue... thanks a lot!
So about 5 hours ago I accidentally spilled a small amount of beer on my Moto G while it was playing music. Immediately after the speaker got covered in beer the sound became all quiet and distorted. I immediatelly rushed to a sink to wash off the speaker with water but that doesn't seem to help.
I've soaked the front in water so many times in the past, you could say I've literally spilled water on both the display and two speakers whenever I decided to clean it and have never had any problems and now this small amount of beer drop on it completely wrecked it which is unusual.
The phone is fully functional, including its micro USB charging port and the only damaged component so far appears to be the speaker, if damaged at all.
Have any of you had such experiences with quiet and distorted sound? Could it just be filled with liquid that needs some time to dry up?
My experience over the past year with my G3 had been all ok. I took it in the shower with me almost everytime for music. Water actually does make the speaker muffled up, temporarily. I leave it for some minutes and it the sound is back to normal. Idk about beer, but I suggest u give it some time to dry up obviously. Use a blow-dryer (hair dryer whatever).
Edit:
So you used water to clear up the speaker after the beer spilled (didn't read your post clearly). Water won't help, it'll just stay muffled if you clear it up with water. I think you did whate everyone would've done with water resistant/proof phone (including me) if it gets dirty or something else is spilled on it. I've cleaned my phone plenty of times with water. The speakers do get muffled, just with water for me. Just give it time to dry out thats all.
Needs time to dry out. Put it in a rice bowl if u can
Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
The phone is drunk, I think. Rice bag idea works very well.
Broadcasted from Zeta Reticuli
Give it some time... When I had my G3 I dropped it in a 5 gallon bucket of marinara sauce, then hosed it off with scalding hot water at the dish wash station. The sound was muffled/garbled for about 12 hours or so until it completely dried out, then it was fine. That was 6 or 7 months ago and it still working fine today.
If the phone is waterproof (not sure to what depth), I think it would better to give the speakers a rinse in clean water before drying it out. That would reduce the possibility of beer residue from having an effect on the sound.
