Question for all of you; I just got a case (Diztronic) and a couple of screen protectors for my new Nexus 5
One of the screen protectors I got was the Xtreme Guard type (very wet application type). I have used this type before, though I always worried that using a lot of water to apply it could possibly get into the phone and damage it.
After I applied it (while turned off, of course), I didn't quite like it (I know you're supposed to wait a few days, but I was impatient, and another brand is coming in the mail, the overly-priced Zagg model), so I removed it, cleaned the screen, shook the phone a bit to try to get any water out that might have gotten into the speaker hole, blew air from some canned air into the speaker hole (not right up next to it, but reasonably close) and left it overnight under a warm lamp.
Yes, paranoid about my new phone. *sheepish look*
In any case, I was reading various things, with people saying "I damaged my speaker by the water getting in there" and "Blowing air into the speaker hole will damage the speaker" and "Putting it under a hot lamp will damage the speaker" etc.
Have you ever heard of ANY of those things damaging the speaker or the phone? I'm all paranoid now. I'm using it today and it seems no worse for wear, and the speaker (ear speaker) seems to be working fine, but I'm all like "Huh, did it sound JUST like that before I did all of the above?" etc.
Any past experiences or advice you'd like to chime in on? Anyone got a close-up look at the faceplate of the Nexus 5 and know if the speaker whole actually is reasonably waterproof, etc?
I looked at this disassembly video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzUj3fpI994 - and I still couldn't quite tell.

i dont know if this applies to the nexus 5 speaker but
i have gotten water on my galaxy s4s speaker 3 times.
once when i just got out of the shower, a single drop of water rolled down my arm and landed on my speaker.
the second time while i was in the shower. it started raining and water blew in through the window.
the third time i was doing dishes and water splashed.
and after all this, each and every time all i did was take out the battery, let it sit for a few hours. and after that the phone worked perfectly.dont blow air, dont throw it in the oven (ive seen people do this) just let it sit and dont play any sounds.

Has anyone else had issues with their touch pro shocking their hands when using it while charging?
Every once in a while the phone will suddenly start emitting a very strong 'tingle'. Kind of feels like a dog shock collar (don't pretend you haven't tried that...). It has startled me enough to drop it a few times. Luckily I don't tend to have it too far from the ground while it is plugged in.
Anyone else encounter this issue?
no, you should probably get a replacement unit, and never use a pun again
Yeah, that sounds like a serious problem. I'd take it back right away and/or contact htc support. I wouldn't use the charger in the interim. You don't want to burn down the house. Knock on wood...
New undocumented security feature?
Take my phone.. I dare you.
No, really, you should exchange that phone
I've experience quite a bit of static shock with the phone. On the HTC Fuze the top half is encircled by this metal/chrome bezel. With dry winter air and walking around on carpet, I've zapped myself/phone a few times. Hopefully, there's no damage to any of the electronic components.
Are u sure its not in vibration mode? That produces a "tingle" as well.

Same here. I notice it more than with my last phone but it's not an alarmingly bad shock, and definitely no constant tingle. The shock is coming from me to the phone and not the other way around.
Hi all i would just like to share my experience with this case..Last week i had the unfortunate accident of dropping my Samsung galaxy s phone in the toilet at home...
The phone fell out of my pocket and straight in too the pan and finally landed in the u-bend.
The phone was in total water submersion for not more that 3-5 seconds..my heart fell to the floor...
I quickly grabbed the phone from the toilet..turned phone off and removed the battery..water was all inside the phone.
I shook the phone and lots of water came out..my thoughts at this time was phone was well and truly buggered.
I proceeded to dry the phone on my radiator at home..sim-card,sd-card,battery and back plate all removed to aide drying.
Left the phone to dry for a full 24 hrs...before attempting to turn phone back on.
There was condensation inside the phone which all dispersed after 24 hrs. of drying out the phone.
And the big moment arrived of putting the phone back together to see if it would ever work again....
My heart was pounding at this time hoping and willing the phone back to life..pressed the power on button and the phone came to life.
Apart from having to do a reset on the phone and re-installing all my apps there has been no problem with the phone working 100%.
Phone has been working for well over a week now with no problems.
How lucky was I??...Im not saying that the Casemate Toughcase is the be all and end all in cases but im sure it went some way in helping reduce the damage that would have been caused by water ingress in to the phone.
happy case hunting...
Ewwww That Dirty Samsung Galaxy S
Lol..must add the water in toilet was clean...
The tough case was not the parameter influencing the luck in this case. As long as the rear speaker hole is not sealed, the water will always have a way inside the phone, no matter how many shock protection layers you have o the phone.
And generally speaking, tap water is not dangerous for the electrical parts of low voltage powered devices (like watches, phones and so on). The main issue with phones dropped in water is that the water will infiltrate in the optical dispersers of the LCD screen and on the screen connectors, generating blurry pictures or no picture at all.
I've learned something from your experience ... the water will not go in between the OLED screen and the digitizer .. which is a GOOD thing.
Great! I'm glad your SGS survived!
just take more care of it, ok? and don't drop it on Sea Water!

I've almost fell from my seat reading the end of your story. I am glad to read that everything went Ok. But does the phone smell .... hmmm different?
Truly lucky.

Update phone still working a OK two and a bit weeks on...
I have toughcase as well. Not the prettiest case, the phone loses it's "luxury" feeling, but you can certainly throw around the phone no problem.
I dropped my Galaxy S (with Tough Case) today, it fell directly on my hard tiles floor at a height around 70cm. I was really freaked out! I picked it up and it was still there like nothing happened (no crash, no slow, no reboot, no nothing) really happy that I chose this case!
thanksss a lot for content
I dropped my Galaxy II S Skyrocket in the toilet. It wasn't in for more 2 seconds, literally. I took the battery out and used a hairdryer on cold setting (not hot at all, made sure not to melt anything). It works fine, with the exception of the mic. I can't be heard unless its right up to my mouth, and then its scratchy.
My question is, has anyone else had this issue? If so, do you think the mic is shot, or just still need to dry out. I really don't want to go back to my iPhone 4. I have become a huge android fan since switching back in February.
The hairdryer wasn't really the best option.
Submerge the phone in a bowl of silica gel (or rice) for a day or two.
If it doesn't improve your microphone is probably shot.
Exact same problem. I have the Epic Touch.. Does it work when you record video?
The notification light was stuck on as well for me. I took it apart and cleaned the circuit board and such (Don't recommend unless you feel safe in your abilities) and that fixed the light. My mic works when recording video but not for anything else (Skype, Search, Calls, Etc...)
Sorry, it's been a whole since I have been on the forum.
I am happy to say hat it dried put and worked fine. I guess there was just some water left. It was literally only on the water for a split second, and never totally submerged. I owe a lot of the protection to my otterbox. I know it's not water proof, but it did hold back some of the damage.

Hi guys,
My screen got a bit dirty today so I decided to get wet a piece of cloth and wipe down my screen. However it seems that now my call quality is god awful and I can barely hear out of the earpiece. Has this happened to anyone else? I've wiped down my iPhone 4 multitudes of times in the same manner and have never encountered anything like this.
I actually thought the sound quality was excellent before and to have to fall like this is horrifying.
Can anyone suggest a solution? I have a big phone interview this week and I need to be able to hear clearly
Did water get into the internals? Turn off your phone and place in into rice.
Unless it entered through the earpiece, I don't think it did. I really have no idea about how the earpiece is built or if the water would be able to reach the internals via the headphones. Definitely nothing went inside any other opening though....
Wait for the earpiece to dry, its quite exposed up there. Personally I use dry cloth only but if its really bad a touch of water on the cloth can help but not so much as to create any puddles.

I wanted to create this topic because I am curious and because I see many people asking if this phone isn't too fragile or has QC issues. I believe that the people with problems are the vocal minority but the best way to find out is to have a poll.
So, have you found any faults or is your device right as a little (Xperia) ray of sunshine?
You can select more than one option.
1st phone: defective camera (purple noise)
2nd phone: USB flap misalign when closed
3rd and current phone: so far so good
My first phone's screen had an area in a line from top to bottom, right of centre that had no touch sensitivity. The area was about .5 cm wide.
I couldn't touch anything on the line or drag anything across it.
I contacted Amazon.co.uk and they sent me a new one right away. They also let me hang onto the defective one until the replacement arrived without charging me.
Awesome! thanks for the replies so far! Please keep them coming!
My phone is perfect. The USB flap is a teeny tiny bit, like a fraction of a milimeter, misaligned but the seal is intact, I do not intent to take my phone into the pool anyway and thought it was pointless to go through the hassle of returning an otherwise flawless phone for something half of my friends can't see when I point it out. My carpenters eye is ridiculously accurate so meh.
The back glass scratched a few hours after removing cover. Ive only has the phone for 2 days and Bell wont take it back with damages. The phone has only ever been in my otherwise empty pocket...
Anyone else experiencef this? I thought both were gorilla glass.
I don't think the back is as scratch resistant as the front, as I too have very minor scratches on the back, using front and back tempered glass protects now.
My unit only has a slight annoyance which is the headphone jack is wobbly. It has about less than 1mm of wiggle room. I can see a gap between the metal body and the Jack. The Jack works perfectly currently.
Don't know if it's worth bringing to the Sony store, or to just seal it with some super glue or something. :/
Took some underwater pictures at the aquarium, thought it'd be cool.
Sending my phone into Sony to get a warranty replacement today.

That's what I'm assuming. I could also hear air bubbles when squeezing my device... :/
It worked fine for a while, I even rinsed it off in the sink after exposing it to the water. (It was fresh water, but there were fish in it) No more than 6 inches submerged for like 30 seconds. Was going through the pictures and the touchscreen just stopped working.

In reality, from what I have read, some are not waterproof out of the box. So sad to hear this when Sony advertised this phone as waterproof. Before submerging, did you try the water test via software (pressure sensor)?

Yes(Although I don't really think the test proves the waterproofness), I had also had it completely submerged for 10 minutes when I bought the device.

This really sucks because there is no way we can tell if it is waterproof until we really submerge it. I am going to avoid submerging mine at all cost.
Hi
I had some problems with this new phone.
1: no nfc working
2: horizontal section from 9 to 177 of the touchscreen doesnt work properly
So i get a third replacement by SFR (in France) and I think I get a fully working Z3.
I love the advertisement of Sony for ils Z3 in France : demand perfection (exigez la perfection)!
I've had 2 copper Z3's. First one, front glass shattered whilst in my front left pocket, nothing else in the same pocket. I've carried all my phones in the same manner and never had an issue. Also had the pink spot issue.
Second phone has 2 stuck pixels.
I really like the phone. They just don't like me
Got a replacement from T-Mobile, the camera button seems to be stuck.. Only works like 20% of the time. Instead of feeling like a dual stage button, it's just a single press with no tactile feel.
When in the camera app it either does nothing, or is stuck trying to focus repeatedly.
Has the same issue with the glass coming up on the back as well. Definitely feels and sounds as if adhesive it being "pulled apart" per se.
Also, the flaps seem to be a little mis-aligned.
My T-Mobile must have gotten a bad batch...
If you have a misaligned usb flap, will replacing the flap with a spare one fix it or is it an issue with the frame?
First one I got in store, noticed the power and volume up buttons were stuck and wouldn't click, the next one's speakerphone didn't work, now this one's camera button is stuck and doesn't have the two stage shutter and can't take photos in the stock app. I still prefer the phone over any other currently out.
Edit: I got mine through t-mobile.
UPDATE: The camera button has come unstuck and works fine now, though it does get a little stuck still.
Two display/screen issues :
- Screen burn-in all the time : status bar and home button more particularly. I strongly suspect a defective screen : I send my Z3 back to Sony, and they did... a software update ! I'm kind of curious about what they did exactly because my phone was completely updated. Of course, it didn't solve anything...
- Strange parasite lines surrounding text lines. Probably a software issue. I'm waiting Lollipop to see what it gonna do on my phone.
Sent mine in for a screen repair in the USA. Its a d6603 international version that is rooted and an unlocked boot loader stock. They just informed me that they cannot fix due to it not having the correct software and it not being a US phone.
