Hi guys.
I know there's nothing perfect but does anybody else have noticeable slight gaps along the edge of their unit? Prob doesn't help that i got the white one but it seems my face panel isn't as centered as it can be when assembled. After googling, i see some z2s had this problem too.
Might not be a huge issue to most, but i got to admit it annoys me knowing how much we paid and the praise the device gets for its build quality. Thinking bout getting it exchange tomorrow for another unit. Just sucks to pay for shipping and playing the waiting game again. lol... smh.

I have this same problem. A gap just wide enough to let out some light from under the display. I wouldn't normally care but worried that this means my unit may not actually be waterproof. If I get it wet and it dies on me then Sony will only blame me. I'm in the UK and got my beautiful copper version from Clove. How about you? I'm sending them an email this morning.

I got mine from gsmnation in usa. I've emailed them just earlier hoping to get response tomorrow. Wow, u can see light coming from the edge? That's aweful man! Mine's around the camera button corner. Looks like either the main screen panel is slightly off centered or the camera button side has an abnormal buldge. Ruins an otherwise awesome device. Yeah, very concern bout the waterproofing too. Hopefully these are extreme cases so if i'm able to get a replacement, the next unit wouldn't be subject to any issues.

Notice how the left edge is perfectly flush. Now look how the right aluminum edge seems to bulge out a little more and not as flush. It's a lot more noticeable in person. Again, may seem nit picky but its bothersome to me lol.
Lin,
Its not as bad as note 4 gap lol where u can stick a card in it. It just looks uneven. I tried putting a lil pressure on it to try to pop it in to no use! Lol
@monoke
mine i notice it just last night when i m using it in a dark room. very obvious that there is a line of light coming out from both side of the screen.
but mine is left side wider than right side.
is a copper phone btw. screen is black, so the gap not that obvious

Sorry to hear you have it too. Seeing light coming out sounds bad. Wouldn't it be natural for water to creep in those seams? You plan on returning it for another unit like I am.

Exact same issue here on my Copper Z3. Getting Clove to replace mine if they admit it is a defect.
I absolutely love this phone and almost don't wanna bother replacing. It can actually withstand some abuse considering I had some super tight cases on it that needed serious prying and snapping to put on and take off.
@monoke I don't see the bulge in those pics above. Or gap. Maybe I'm blind.
I'll send a picture of mine to show the light bleed. Can you send yours @chunlianghere

Yeah i think u guys have it worse than i do especially with the light bleeding. Mine isn't a gap really like i can't literally stick a piece of paper in there. From regular eye phone distance it just looks like it and not a flush fitment like it should be especially for a waterproof phone.
Anyway, after showing gsmnation the same ecxact pics, i got rma and just sent it back today really no questions asked. That was cool of them!
That's awesome. Good for you @monoke

Anybody got any idea on how to remove scratches or chipped paint from our desire?
Just chipped mine... I was asleep and bump the table where I usually put my phone and it fell... the next morning the graphite painted part had a chip on the upper front left of the housing.

hello
i'm thinking of removing the entire paint off the htc device once it's really scratched, i am going to buy a desire and noticed lot of problems with the paint on htc devices, my chrome line from the touch dual chipped of compleatly and i used really fine sandpaper to remove it and it worked fine.
Something better whould be polishing cream from a jewlery, it is very fine and i think it does a god job on screens (might damage touchscreen dough, i don't know if it's allowed on touchscreen) god luck keep me posted,, once mine is scratched, i'm going to need help
Actually, I bought a replacement housing for my desire and planning to replace the front housing when it's completely ruined. I just thought I'd ask first before I go ahead with it, cause I know it would be a pain changing it. I tried searching... and I don't think anybody is brave enough to change their full housing, cause I haven't found a single tutorial on how to disassemble a desire.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
There is a some tutorial.
http://tjworld.net/blog/htc-desire-tear-down
I think there is 50-50 chance that you will need new digitizer screen as well. Its glued to frame and needs to be separated by force (easy to crack)

this is a for replacing of touch screen. Scratches from plastic you can remove by polishing them to the white paper (simply office paper, ists better ~40g/m2)

Thanks for the link. I think It's a little bit pain in the... but it looks like It's manageable. I've done some several teardowns of my own before with different devices, so I think it's no problem at all. The teardown tutorial was very insightful. Cheers!

May I ask what kind of housing you have purchased? Is it OEM? How much was it?
I got scammed on Ebay by dishonest seller. Phone looks terrible and is covered in deep scratches and dents. So I'm investigating just in case PayPal dispute goes wrong. Found several sellers on Ebay claiming that housings sold by them are OEM. But I doubt they are OEM, will fit properly and are of good quality in general.
P.S. volume down button also doesn't work. Any ideas if it's a simple/inexpensive fix or not?
My Desire's back housing has blackspots due to the (lift up) patch/sack I use.
I thought it was inkt but after cleaning it with alcohol etc it seems that the paint has just warn off sadly.
So also looking for a replacement housing now on ebay, tho the cheapest one I can find is 40 euro which is kinda steep for me (as I only need the backside) plus no garantee that these are real OEM as mentioned above.
It might be worth asking htc what they would charge to replace. They were kind of reasonable last time I used them..

Sorry I didn't notice the replies here. Anyways, I got my Desire complete housing replacement and it's good actually, the quality is good and almost looks like the original one... I say almost because the only difference I noticed was the color of the graphite brown in the front. The replacement had a little more darker shade than the original. But, other than that... everything is good, and the fittings is perfect. I haven't gone on with putting the replacement housing cause my Desire is still in good condition and with just some minor scratches. I'll wait until it's full of scratch before I will do the replacement. Cheers! I will attach some picture for comparison later ok. Cheers!

Well actually I was asking HTC for a warranty claim but they told me that's it's my fault and it's not covered... so I was pissed at them and made a full complain about their service. I was complaining that, how come that the paint was very easily scratched and got ruined when I just dropped it from the table to the CARPET. I dropped 3 of my previous iPhones several times on the floor without getting any scratch on them.

You're not going to get a scratched casing done under warranty. I had an old HTC WinMo Artemis phone fitted with a new case and new trackball assembly by HTC UK for around 30UKP about 2 years ago...it came back with an official ROM flashed back on it but I was very happy with the service...

Well I would send my phone for repairs even if I have to pay for the service, just to get fitted with a new housing and get it back the way it was. My problem is the nearest HTC Care Center where I at is in the next City, and that's 6 hours drive away. Thanks anyway for the info.

My only gripe is that the case shows finger oils quite readily. You're either gonna need to rub pretty thoroughly with a microfiber cloth or use a bit of water. The texture is very similar to the plastic on the phone itself, though a bit softer feeling. Definitely feels good in the hand.
i like incipio feather better since it covers a little more on the edges..
I do like the feather, I probably would've gotten it over the barely there if it was available when I had to make the decision

I've had the same question. The images provided in Case-Mate website is not clear. I was not able to decipher whether it will cover up the camera. No company would make cases that will expose the camera that will not provide any protection, right??

Wrong...read my post right above yours...I will provide a snapshot of the camera from the side when I get home and settled. ETA 7:30pm EST
Here's a picture of how much the camera sticks out. Like I said, it's like barely anything, but barely anything is still something.
yep ^^^^ I didn't even leave mine on. I had the white version. just a damn shame of poor design. aesthetics over protection in this case. It doesn't serve its true purpose.
Looking forward to trying this case out. I just want it for keeping the phone clean. A friend just had a zag and although it looked nice it got really dirty. Looks like mud now lol so I need a case and I think this looks good.

What I've been doing is to just keep my phone in my pocket as much as possible and avoid hard surfaces. If I'm eating lunch and watching a video or reading news or something, I'll just plop a soft napkin on the table and rest the phone on that. Kinda solves the camera lens sticking out thing. Just kinda.
As to the lens sticking out, it's to such a minuscule amount that at first I thought that somehow if you placed it on a table the natural curve of the phone might somehow lift the top of the phone up just enough that the lens doesn't touch the table.
Nope.
I visually confirmed this by letting the phone rest on the edge of my desk and looking at it from the side to see exactly where the phone touches the desk. The lens does touch the desk.
Unfortunately, I did this at work and somebody walked past my cubicle as I was crouching on the ground staring at my phone from 2 inches away. I felt kinda dumb. ):

When I look at my phone there's a metal ring around the edge of the camera that is just barely raised above the camera's glass. This means that putting the camera down there's no way for the glass to touch the surface the phone is sitting on unless the surface has a bump right where the metal lip stops and the glass begins. Even if you raised the bottom of the phone so the camera portion was parallel to the surface that slight ridge would keep the camera glass from touching the surface unless the surface bulged upwards to touch the glass that's elevated by the ridge (if even by a hair's width).
Do your phones not have the slightly raised ridge or something?
Hi guys. I, like many other people, recently cracked the glass on my Nexus 5's screen. I looked at some other threads and forums at it looks like LG usually repairs it for around $146. I want to figure out though if the quote they will give me is similar to the $146 because, unlike some other people, my screen is totally shattered. I'm thinking that LG might charge more because of the state of my screen, even though they'll have to replace the whole fused LCD/glass/digitizer no matter the extent of cracking on any device.
Any help would be appreciated. If anyone else cracked their screen as much as I did, please let me know how much LG charged for the repair. Thanks.

No, I think it's just a standard amount. That's actually really cheap though. They have to replace the entire thing anyway, so I don't think they'll charge you more. I'm not 100% sure though.

Oh that's good to know. I'm just wondering because almost everyone has said $146 but one person posted a range from like $100-$200 or something. $146 is pretty unbeatable compared to the actual current price of the display part.

I have a lot of phone repair experience. I have replaced so many digitizers (glass) its crazy. Especially on iPhones. 146 for the entire repair isn't bad if the LCD is broken as well. Unfortunately the glass and the LCD do not separate well. You likely to fail if you tried. If you succeeded it would only cost you 10-20 bucks for the part. Maybe another 20 to have it put. Or do it yourself. You can buy the LCD and glass assembly for 120-150. Easily replaced yourself. So 146 for the whole job done professionally?
That is good. Check how much a super amoled costs

PS almost everything on the n5 is easily replaced and cheap. The charger port. The headphone jack. Both speakers. The camera. Cheap too. It takes about 5-10 min to replace anything.

That really sucks! Sorry to hear that, what case is it so we can avoid it like the plague? Nothing worse then thinking it's protected and it's not though we haven't heard how it actually happened maybe you dropped it into a cement mixer and then the case might be more excusable.

It's the Diztronic Matte Black TPU Case. And it was just an ordinary 2 feet drop on to tile floor. I've dropped plenty of my past phones on to tile before and nothing happened, but this time I guess it hit at a bad angle or something.

The digitizer still works I believe because my phone is still fully functional. I always thought that the assembly had three parts - the glass, the LCD, and the digitizer. Since the whole assembly is fused though it'll cost like $150 alone for the part. I wish it wasn't fused though so I could just repair the broken glass myself for like $30

Wow that sucks, I have the same case and dropped mine from about 4 feet on to a tile floor as well. It landed on the bottom bumper and apparently absorbed the fall because there was not even a scratch on the phone or case. Either I got really lucky or you were very unlucky.

Same here..dropped at least a dozen times, concrete/blacktop/wood floor/carpet...no breakage nor sign of drops.

Its only two parts. Digitizer is the glass. Than LCD. Phones like the iPhone and some HTC phones and a number lg phones still have easy separation between the two. You can replace the glass. But it may damage the LCD because its fused. I could do it but the digitizer is currently hard to find unless you go to a store with factory access. 150 has profit built in. A shop owner could get that for maybe 100 bucks. Lg probably pays 50 to make it. 146 is a steal but ask if you can keep the damaged part. The extra LCD could come in handy one day. Glass will become more readily available once the device becomes less popular. I bet you can find the part cheaper than 150 now.

I would like to exchange my current HTC One M8 for another M8 through Verizon (because I have been noticing that the glass is not entirely flush), however I am weary of doing so with CWM Recovery still on the device. I understand how to remove permanent root (SuperSU settings allow for this), though since this is my first HTC device, I am not entirely sure how to proceed from here (get the stock recovery back). Can I just flash the recovery.img from this thread through ADB, or will this brick my device? Thanks in advance for your help.
Quick question, what glass are you talking about that is not flush?

he is probably talking about the entire screen. the time i read that. i remember feeling mine.
the part where the screen touches the metal towards the speakers, mine is lower on the right side than the left (gun metal grey m8)
its not a big deal for me, but im pretty sure this is what he is talking about

Yep, @JWhetstone02 is correct. The glass sections directly above the top and bottom front facing speakers of my device are raised in comparison to the glass covering my LCD. It wasn't enough to originally notice when I first opened and began using the device, but now that my screen protector has finally finished adhering, it is definitely noticeable (the raised portions are lifting the screen protector off of the glass). It wouldn't have been that big of a deal if both sections were equally raised, however they are not; the top right portion is higher then the top left portion, and the bottom left portion is flush while the bottom right portion is raised.
Despite all this, I still stand by the fact that the HTC One M8 is THE BEST constructed device I have ever had the pleasure of using.
EDIT: I actually considered sending in the device under the HTC Advantage Free Glass Replacement clause, however I don't want to take the risk that when I receive my device is may be no better off then when I sent it in. At least at the store I can confirm that the glass portions are all flush.
Mine is the same way too. Even the one on display was like that I'm just saying returning it I don't know if the new one will be any better, let us know

Ahhhh crap. Well, I plan on going in today around 5:30 pm PST, so I will keep you all posted. Do you guys have screen protectors that don't show this separation as much? I currently have a Skinomi Techskin on mine (pictures below), and while the separation does not cause any display issues, my OCD is really kicking in...

FYI, that shows up on every single one I've seen, if you use the screen protector that goes over the speaker grills.
use a regular screen only, you'll never notice.

I tried to circumvent the launch devices by ordering mine after the a couple days after the official launch, because of all the issues I heard the original HTC One had, but apparently I either didn't wait long enough, or the even more unfortunate scenario that the majority of M8's are like this.

Worse comes to worse, I would rather have the separation and my entire screen covered... With such a nice looking device, I would hate myself if I scratched some portion of it. When I purchased the device, there were no screen protectors or cases at any of the Verizon stores near me, so I left my device unopened until the Skinomi Techskin and cheap TPU case I ordered arrived from Amazon. Further, after dropping and cracking my previous Galaxy S3, I am not taking any chances with this phone.
Ignore...
damn now mine has this. ugh my ocd got me now. never noticed...thanks lol
With the latest Gorilla glass i don't think screen protectors are even needed. Up until my last phone, samsung note 2, I always used a screen protector. Didn't use one on my note and never got a scratch on it. Granted i'm somewhat anal about my phone but never had an issue. Now on my
m8 i don't have one. I don't think its needed.....If it keeps lifting due to screen then ditch it.

The Note 3, S4 and the M7 all had gorilla glass and all got scratched... Will never not put some sort of protection on my screen again.

Fix for uneven glass.
Otterbox Defender.
http://www.otterbox.com/Defender-Se...default,pd.html?start=1&cgid=htc-one-m8-cases
The good:
The clear plastic sheet covers the entire glass eliminating the problems OP mentioned.
It protects the phone probably better than any other case.
The kickstand feature allows me to use it as my bedside alarm clock.
The bad:
It's costly.
It makes a very big phone MUCH bigger!
It's slow to get on and off.
The ugly:
Otterbox Defender is an UGLY case IMHO.
I wouldn't be without it! It took a day or two to get used to it but I really like it now.

Thank you, but I can not use an Otterbox case... It defeats the purpose of buying a nice looking phone if I immediately cover it up.

But you'll need a case of some kind for protection, won't you?
I don't know of any case that's as nice looking as the phone, I'd like to not use a case myself but my previous phone had a small problem (I could salvage the SIM and the SD card, the screen, digitizer, motherboard, etc. were completely destroyed so.... I know the case is ugly but I'm sticking with it!
As always, YMMV.
idk if this gives you any hope, but mine is flush on both ends... and if you're still looking for the stock recovery img, try reaching out to a dev. Try @andybones

My new Z3's glass is scattered. You all now the Z3 is so slippery. I ordered a case already and it should arrive this week, but yesterday it fell of the couch and now my glass is totally broken. I can fix it for more than 200 euro. Vodafone says it is my own fault and this is not included in the guarantee. I thought this was gorilla/armored glass and this phone would stand a drop of 30cm onto carpet?
Any idea's how I can get this covered? At Sony?
Please post questions in the Q&A section

Slippery indeed, but I'm afraid this might be a tough one as it actually fell down.
Mine fell a few times as well already (now really have it in my system to check where I put it instead of the arm rest of the couch for example) but without issues. And well, any glass can break... Sometimes it takes a few tries, but it has to fall and land bad only once to make a mess of it.
Anyway, hope you'll get it sorted... I know sony repaired some Z2 'spontaneous broken screens' but not sure about this one.
Nothing other than insurance will cover drops, unless the company themselves specify it.
I don't think its the fact that the Z3 is slippery. You put it on your couch. Most of the complaint about the the Z3 being slippery is about holding it with the hand.
Anyway, unless you put insurance on it, you are so out of luck.

No it isn't to be honest, the Z3 has a nasty habit of sliding when put down somewhere. When you put it on a flat surface (such as a table) which isn't perfectly level it actually slides off, very slowly. It's like a little hovercraft or something... Quite annoying and I've had it sliding off object a few times as well already.

Exactly, even on a flat surface, it moves! I showed it to my son as a magic trick! Now the trick is fatal!
A couch is not a flat surface. The material makes a difference. Glass on table could move depending on what the table is made of and how it is shaped. But it isn't adviseable to place it near the edge of any table regardless of what phone it is.
I think placing the blame on Sony's design in this case isn't justifiable and I don't even like Sony's practice (advertising waterproof with people playing in water but not covering it under warranty. DRM on camera....) There is an inherent responsibility of each users to keep it out of harm's way such as keeping it out of your pocket when you are playing sports, away from edges, etc. Everyone knows that Xperia is plated front and back with tempered glass. Glass breaks with impact.
Digressed there but to answer you: either you pay for the repair, attempt a DIY, or trash it and buy a new phone because what occur will not be classify as manufacturer defect that is cover. Don't think there is a 4th way.
A couple of days ago, the same thing happenned to me. I accidentally dropped the phone while walking on the street and it hit the curb. When I picked it up the back glass was shattered.
The phone had one week (and I had been offered 3-months free insurance, but I didn't take it). So I assumed this would cost me quite a bit.
Today I visited the official repair service in my city and was told that the repair would cost me 60 eur and about 40 minutes. I'll have to wait because they don't have the part in white, but it was a relief, I was expecting a higher price.

You could just buy a case for it (I got a nice one off ebay for £2.99), stick a screen protector on the back to hold the glass together, and stick it in the case. Doesn't really matter if the back glass is broken then, does it? Lot cheaper than 60 euros!

Not looked too closely, but is the glass part of the waterresistance or is it on top of the case? There's a pressure check you could do if that's the only reason you're getting it fixed.

I'm not sure, and it's a good suggestion, but I'll pay, I don't want to have a broken phone. I doesn't look good.

Besides, I don't believe it's fragile. It was just bad luck. I've owned a Z for a year and a half, dropped it several times (some without case) and never got damaged.
I have my phone repaired, well actually it couldn't be repaired and Sony gave me a new one. Yep, they GAVE me a new one. I didn't have to pay a thing for it. I was in doubt whether to mention this, since more people could claim this althoug every scenario is different of course, but I do post this since I think this is great service by Sony! Good to hear! Congrats
Then again, the phone IS slippery. I have noticed it many times on tables which werent totally levelled for example. It just floats to the edge, very slowly... So it's not really a user mistake here.
Anyway, I have a screenprotector on the back now and that also helps with the slippyness
Thnx. Yes, not really a user mistake but I could imagine that other companies would have let me pay. I know have the Sony SCR24 cover, so the slippery problem is solved.

i was lurking around the Z3 forums to search for some topics related to the fact that my brand new Z3 frontglass + digitizer was broken a few weeks ago.
I cannot proof that the damage wasnt my fault ( or is ) so i sent the phone to GSMWijzer (The Netherlands) to let them investigate it ( probably went to dynafix ). They told me that after their findings they would inform me whether i have to pay or not.
Today i got my answer??? GSMWijzer mailed a track & trace nr for a brand new Z3 !!!
I am really happy that whoever made the decision to let this one go under guarantee , delived such good service!
I mailed them to thank them and also asked for some explanation why the decision was made to send a new Z3 and also to clarify the reason to charge no costs at all.
I they mail anything usefull which can help future Z3 victims then i will post it here.
For now: i agree with the topicstarter: YAY for Sony !

You have guts, I didn't dare to ask why they gave me a new one, since I was afraid it might be a mistake and I had to pay anyway. I thought that not only my glass was broken, but also my whole phone didn't work anymore, they gave me a new one. But then again, they could have charged me for the glass only? Or Sony accepts the slippery issue and therefor refunds it? Anyway, more than a million thumbs up for Sony!
these phones slide like no other i have owned for sure , put a super thin tpu case on it and it will stop , i cant wait till i get mine , the phone in just over a week has slipped off my leather sofa , my bed stand on vibrate it will run away from u lol i put a anti car dash slip on my couch where i sit it mostly till i get the case tomorrow smh
