Anybody got any idea on how to remove scratches or chipped paint from our desire?
Just chipped mine... I was asleep and bump the table where I usually put my phone and it fell... the next morning the graphite painted part had a chip on the upper front left of the housing.

hello
i'm thinking of removing the entire paint off the htc device once it's really scratched, i am going to buy a desire and noticed lot of problems with the paint on htc devices, my chrome line from the touch dual chipped of compleatly and i used really fine sandpaper to remove it and it worked fine.
Something better whould be polishing cream from a jewlery, it is very fine and i think it does a god job on screens (might damage touchscreen dough, i don't know if it's allowed on touchscreen) god luck keep me posted,, once mine is scratched, i'm going to need help
Actually, I bought a replacement housing for my desire and planning to replace the front housing when it's completely ruined. I just thought I'd ask first before I go ahead with it, cause I know it would be a pain changing it. I tried searching... and I don't think anybody is brave enough to change their full housing, cause I haven't found a single tutorial on how to disassemble a desire.

There is a some tutorial.
http://tjworld.net/blog/htc-desire-tear-down
I think there is 50-50 chance that you will need new digitizer screen as well. Its glued to frame and needs to be separated by force (easy to crack)

this is a for replacing of touch screen. Scratches from plastic you can remove by polishing them to the white paper (simply office paper, ists better ~40g/m2)

Thanks for the link. I think It's a little bit pain in the... but it looks like It's manageable. I've done some several teardowns of my own before with different devices, so I think it's no problem at all. The teardown tutorial was very insightful. Cheers!

May I ask what kind of housing you have purchased? Is it OEM? How much was it?
I got scammed on Ebay by dishonest seller. Phone looks terrible and is covered in deep scratches and dents. So I'm investigating just in case PayPal dispute goes wrong. Found several sellers on Ebay claiming that housings sold by them are OEM. But I doubt they are OEM, will fit properly and are of good quality in general.
P.S. volume down button also doesn't work. Any ideas if it's a simple/inexpensive fix or not?
My Desire's back housing has blackspots due to the (lift up) patch/sack I use.
I thought it was inkt but after cleaning it with alcohol etc it seems that the paint has just warn off sadly.
So also looking for a replacement housing now on ebay, tho the cheapest one I can find is 40 euro which is kinda steep for me (as I only need the backside) plus no garantee that these are real OEM as mentioned above.
It might be worth asking htc what they would charge to replace. They were kind of reasonable last time I used them..

Sorry I didn't notice the replies here. Anyways, I got my Desire complete housing replacement and it's good actually, the quality is good and almost looks like the original one... I say almost because the only difference I noticed was the color of the graphite brown in the front. The replacement had a little more darker shade than the original. But, other than that... everything is good, and the fittings is perfect. I haven't gone on with putting the replacement housing cause my Desire is still in good condition and with just some minor scratches. I'll wait until it's full of scratch before I will do the replacement. Cheers! I will attach some picture for comparison later ok. Cheers!

Well actually I was asking HTC for a warranty claim but they told me that's it's my fault and it's not covered... so I was pissed at them and made a full complain about their service. I was complaining that, how come that the paint was very easily scratched and got ruined when I just dropped it from the table to the CARPET. I dropped 3 of my previous iPhones several times on the floor without getting any scratch on them.

You're not going to get a scratched casing done under warranty. I had an old HTC WinMo Artemis phone fitted with a new case and new trackball assembly by HTC UK for around 30UKP about 2 years ago...it came back with an official ROM flashed back on it but I was very happy with the service...

Well I would send my phone for repairs even if I have to pay for the service, just to get fitted with a new housing and get it back the way it was. My problem is the nearest HTC Care Center where I at is in the next City, and that's 6 hours drive away. Thanks anyway for the info.

The screen is gorilla glass. If you scratched it, it wasnt with one of those cards....I put mine face down, in my pocket with change and keys and my wallet and everything. No scratches at all. Somrtimes I ever throw it on the couch where it has been sat on and once the ol lady stepped on it.

Really the screen is gorilla glass?. I have read about this but nothing is confirmed.
Anyway, i installed a CM Barely There Case + screen protector.
do you happen to have one of the Inspires with the loose bottom right corner? The glass has been known to lift up. If so, swap it under warranty.
I've said it before and I will say it again. No matter what measures you take to prevent your screen from getting scratched, it pays to invest in screen protectors and protective cases. Its well worth the investment.

Manufacturing defect and yeah do it before the thing falls apart and you cant claim warranty on it. On the other hand that sucks op I've had mine thrown at the edge of a coffe table at starbucks bounced hit a wooden chair and then the floor all facing the glass the first day...I picked it up not a single scratch. That was when i knew <3 inspire.

I agree with all the people here, this looks like a factory defect and your phone should be covered by the warranty. Go ahead and replace it with a new one.
Good luck

Yeah man that sucks. I scratched mine about 15 days in to. I had it in my pocket with the keys. Not a huge scratch, but there none the less. I have a zagg on it now, but I hate the way it looks with it, and I really hate cases. I would also say there is no way in hell a gift card scratched the glass, that ****e is pretty damn strong. I am WAY harder on phones than most and considering the glass is in really good shape. Love the gg.
I guess you could try for a warranty claim. I decided that it was my fault and as such on me. Your case is in no way the same as mine. Good luck man.

I am. No Really I am. Least thats wut my momz told me this morning.
Doing a google search on Body Glove htc sensation case turns up the official Body Glove case. I'm interested in it, however the case covers up the 2 holes down towards the bottom of the back of the phone - right under the "With HTC Sense". Most other cases I've seen have cutouts for those 2 holes.
Does anyone know what those two holes are for and should I be concerned?
Thanks in advance!
I asked that question in the tpu case thread but didn't get an answer.
My case has those 2 holes covered up (and a couple of others around the camera and speaker) and I don't seem to experience any problems with signal/wifi etc. I wonder if my phone runs hotter because of this case
I've read conflicting reports on what some of those extra holes are for. Antenna, noise cancellation mic, etc.
I just don't want to be covering up an extra mic with a case.
These holes are there for any reason, so, I believe that is better to not cover it.....
The body glove case was a ***** to put on! The bottom portion and the top portion don't go together flush, there is a small lip between them. I seriously had to use some strength to slide the phone in the top and bottom portions, hopefully it didn't scratch anything. I don't want to take it off to look because I'd have to put it back on lol.
Anyone else have this problem?
Same problem. I'm second guessing my decision to get this case.
i guess i should have thought about that before i bought it from wirelessground... pretty sure they already shipped it to me.
Okay so I took it off because apparently my SD card was unmounted... I saw some slight puck marks around the camera area which is strange because there's a velvet type material inside of the case around that area for protection...maybe it was already there? I don't recommend this case it took me 20 minutes to get it off in fear of breaking the damn phone. I kind of want to return it and get a brand new phone at the same time because who knows what could have gotten damaged by putting it on/off
You guys talking about the bodyglove kickstand case?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14642023&postcount=5
Because a few posts down it stated to use a penny or similar to prop it open as per instructions. I do not have mine yet. Is it really that difficult?
Wirelessground here as well, had a free shipping code. And they ship it 24 hrs after payment, fyi.
I bought mine from wirelessground and am waiting for it. I found a free shipping code think it was freeship and it worked. If you google "body glove case and hard to take off" their are tons of threads about that and also way to take off like using a coin. Same goes with seidio cases and otterbox.....so I don't know...too late to cancel mine anyway, already on its way.
I'm also beginning to think its probably best to wait 14 days or whatever exchange policy you have before applying screen protectors and cases to your phone, because you could go through a ton of work to get your screen protector on correctly only to discover a problem with the phone and need to exchange it!

Just got back from lunch and I got my bodyglove case. It is indeed the same you get at the tmo stores, but cheaper somewhat . As for the case, it works, it adds a bit to the phone which I am on the fence on right now. I kinda like it but takes away from the beauty of the phone. I took off the clip and put in the tab so that I would have a flat tab so that I can fit it into the leather case I also have.
I did try the stand. It works but seems a bit flimsy. I just don't like having my phones' face exposed to the elements like door jams and door handles and desk drawers at my office, so that is why I chose to not have that clip on. I don't know...I may want to sell this case in a day....anyone want it for 15 bux shipped?
Anyways here are the pics taken from the sensation. I do not have any pics of the case with the actual case on of course

I did...I thought the case had a defect and I was going to asked Tmobile to exchange it but I guess they are all the same......it costs $29.99 and to get the phone out it is extremely difficult...I would advise not to buy it.
I will get another one as soon as they start coming out. I am waiting from Seidio.com to start selling cases for this phone. It may take a month?

No, I'm not talking about the kickstand one that also comes with a beltclip.
It is just a case with the top part being drak gray and the bottom black.
I guess I will get a refund from Tmo and body glove should start expecting 95% of returns (if you are able to get the case off your phone.... )
I guess the entire initial batch of these cases has the same defect....
So here's what happened...My Sensation decided to stop read the pre-installed SD card. It took 30 minutes to get the SLIDE-ON Body Glove cover off of the damn phone (and I nearly tore the phone in half). Still wouldn't read the card, so I put the casing back on and took it back to the store. The manager helped me and I told him the case was nearly impossible to get off and the phone won't read the SD card. He said okay, fiddled with the case for a bit. Went in the back and brought me a brand new phone. Then he took all the Body Glove cases off the rack and threw them away in a box lol Now I'm using the simple silicone one that the store carries
Just an FYI on the Body Glove Case...
Over in the EVO forums they advise to avoid it like the plague. It seems to shatter upon the slightest impact. Not sure if they used a different plastic for the Sensation case or not... but I wouldn't spend money on it to find out.
I bought the Body Glove and the front piece felt so flimsy and I wouldn't trust it to protect my phone one bit. I'm returning it asap. I would much rather a rubber skin.

Just an FYI, I had the same case on a Vibrant for 6 months (then replaced it with a new one, same case). When you hold it it does feel flimsy, but I can say it was the best protection I ever had on a phone. It looks brand new. I had to replace it because if you remove the top cover (with a nickel or quarter in the slot) after a while the tabs fatigue. T-Mobile warrantied the case and replaced it for me at no charge.
I really like the case. Feels really sturdy. The top part doesn't feel flimsy once its secured to the case. I also don't think it adds too much bulk. Glad I got it.

get the replacment screen first, see what's included. it should be pretty east. the infuse comes apart pretty straitforward. just six screws a lot of prying. i didnt do a screen repacement so im not sure of everything. i just took it apart for s's&g's.
get a "precision scredriver set" or the little screwdriver for an eye glass repair set.
also you got all you nomenclature wrong. the infuse doesnt have an lcd. it uses amoled technology(samoled+). and the protective glass is just that. glass, garilla glass from corning to be precise. but you could call the amoled screen a tft (thin film transistor) i believe. not positive but i think tft applies to lcd as well as amoled
i think what your going to need here is to heat up the from of the phone to get the screen to separate from the body of the phone. i looks like it is set up like the iPhone, glued to the frame. so if you see glue while prying it just heat it up real good then just separate it.

not sure bit most replacement screens I've seen for.Samsung phones have a lot more than the Tft. I don't think he'll need to separate the glass. but I guess that all depends on the screen he buys.
other than maybe for glass removal no glue is used that I can see. it is a pain to pry apart but it is not easy to break the plastic either. Samsung uses some tough plastics. a lot tougher than what HTC uses.
FARK! so i just f'ed up an infuse, we ordered the outer glass and back casing from china, it came today, and when i went to disassemble the infuse i found out the hard way that the digitizer was glued to the glass, not just around it but entirely, upon pulling it out the bottom (actual lcd) cracked the outer glass was already in glass shards and peices so i couldnt cleanly separate the glass from the digitizer, everything just went to hell, i tried putting it back together as it was functional before with just a cracked screen but now nothing comes up on the screen, sounds and vibration work but we cant answer phone calls wasted $40 to china and now have to get a complete top assembly to repair this phone

Watch those Youtube videos over and over until you have the process down, and even watch and pause the video as you follow actually doing it. Ive done this with the iPhone HTC Aria and a couple other ones.. never had to with my Infuse.
I always have my Otterbox case on! Dropped TWO stories off a big metal forging machine at my work... phone still works great! True story!
How do you like your ballistic case? I just ordered one for my friends LG Nitro because the otterbox isn't available for it yet..
Looks to be around the same price.. but might have a little more protection... and the option of running it without the outside rubber case.... that might be a nice option for when I am not at work....
I love my Otterbox... but sometimes its just to f****** bulky!

You would lose the bet. I fix stuff in my home, I repair my own car, I replaced the outer housing on my Infuse, etc.
I just am smart enough to investigate what a repair entails, what it will cost, what the options are and how to do it before I start a project.
The ebay screens and digitizers are typically more expensive then having samsung do it. And while I think I could replace the screen/digitizer why would I take the chance of screwing it up AND pay more when Samsung will do it cheaper????

Hi guys. I, like many other people, recently cracked the glass on my Nexus 5's screen. I looked at some other threads and forums at it looks like LG usually repairs it for around $146. I want to figure out though if the quote they will give me is similar to the $146 because, unlike some other people, my screen is totally shattered. I'm thinking that LG might charge more because of the state of my screen, even though they'll have to replace the whole fused LCD/glass/digitizer no matter the extent of cracking on any device.
Any help would be appreciated. If anyone else cracked their screen as much as I did, please let me know how much LG charged for the repair. Thanks.

No, I think it's just a standard amount. That's actually really cheap though. They have to replace the entire thing anyway, so I don't think they'll charge you more. I'm not 100% sure though.

Oh that's good to know. I'm just wondering because almost everyone has said $146 but one person posted a range from like $100-$200 or something. $146 is pretty unbeatable compared to the actual current price of the display part.

That really sucks! Sorry to hear that, what case is it so we can avoid it like the plague? Nothing worse then thinking it's protected and it's not though we haven't heard how it actually happened maybe you dropped it into a cement mixer and then the case might be more excusable.
Wonder if they will charge me the same thing because my doesn't even have the screen on it anymore lol.

I have a lot of phone repair experience. I have replaced so many digitizers (glass) its crazy. Especially on iPhones. 146 for the entire repair isn't bad if the LCD is broken as well. Unfortunately the glass and the LCD do not separate well. You likely to fail if you tried. If you succeeded it would only cost you 10-20 bucks for the part. Maybe another 20 to have it put. Or do it yourself. You can buy the LCD and glass assembly for 120-150. Easily replaced yourself. So 146 for the whole job done professionally?
That is good. Check how much a super amoled costs

PS almost everything on the n5 is easily replaced and cheap. The charger port. The headphone jack. Both speakers. The camera. Cheap too. It takes about 5-10 min to replace anything.

It's the Diztronic Matte Black TPU Case. And it was just an ordinary 2 feet drop on to tile floor. I've dropped plenty of my past phones on to tile before and nothing happened, but this time I guess it hit at a bad angle or something.

The digitizer still works I believe because my phone is still fully functional. I always thought that the assembly had three parts - the glass, the LCD, and the digitizer. Since the whole assembly is fused though it'll cost like $150 alone for the part. I wish it wasn't fused though so I could just repair the broken glass myself for like $30

Wow that sucks, I have the same case and dropped mine from about 4 feet on to a tile floor as well. It landed on the bottom bumper and apparently absorbed the fall because there was not even a scratch on the phone or case. Either I got really lucky or you were very unlucky.

Its only two parts. Digitizer is the glass. Than LCD. Phones like the iPhone and some HTC phones and a number lg phones still have easy separation between the two. You can replace the glass. But it may damage the LCD because its fused. I could do it but the digitizer is currently hard to find unless you go to a store with factory access. 150 has profit built in. A shop owner could get that for maybe 100 bucks. Lg probably pays 50 to make it. 146 is a steal but ask if you can keep the damaged part. The extra LCD could come in handy one day. Glass will become more readily available once the device becomes less popular. I bet you can find the part cheaper than 150 now.

My new Z3's glass is scattered. You all now the Z3 is so slippery. I ordered a case already and it should arrive this week, but yesterday it fell of the couch and now my glass is totally broken. I can fix it for more than 200 euro. Vodafone says it is my own fault and this is not included in the guarantee. I thought this was gorilla/armored glass and this phone would stand a drop of 30cm onto carpet?
Any idea's how I can get this covered? At Sony?
Please post questions in the Q&A section

Slippery indeed, but I'm afraid this might be a tough one as it actually fell down.
Mine fell a few times as well already (now really have it in my system to check where I put it instead of the arm rest of the couch for example) but without issues. And well, any glass can break... Sometimes it takes a few tries, but it has to fall and land bad only once to make a mess of it.
Anyway, hope you'll get it sorted... I know sony repaired some Z2 'spontaneous broken screens' but not sure about this one.
Nothing other than insurance will cover drops, unless the company themselves specify it.
I don't think its the fact that the Z3 is slippery. You put it on your couch. Most of the complaint about the the Z3 being slippery is about holding it with the hand.
Anyway, unless you put insurance on it, you are so out of luck.

No it isn't to be honest, the Z3 has a nasty habit of sliding when put down somewhere. When you put it on a flat surface (such as a table) which isn't perfectly level it actually slides off, very slowly. It's like a little hovercraft or something... Quite annoying and I've had it sliding off object a few times as well already.

Exactly, even on a flat surface, it moves! I showed it to my son as a magic trick! Now the trick is fatal!
A couch is not a flat surface. The material makes a difference. Glass on table could move depending on what the table is made of and how it is shaped. But it isn't adviseable to place it near the edge of any table regardless of what phone it is.
I think placing the blame on Sony's design in this case isn't justifiable and I don't even like Sony's practice (advertising waterproof with people playing in water but not covering it under warranty. DRM on camera....) There is an inherent responsibility of each users to keep it out of harm's way such as keeping it out of your pocket when you are playing sports, away from edges, etc. Everyone knows that Xperia is plated front and back with tempered glass. Glass breaks with impact.
Digressed there but to answer you: either you pay for the repair, attempt a DIY, or trash it and buy a new phone because what occur will not be classify as manufacturer defect that is cover. Don't think there is a 4th way.
A couple of days ago, the same thing happenned to me. I accidentally dropped the phone while walking on the street and it hit the curb. When I picked it up the back glass was shattered.
The phone had one week (and I had been offered 3-months free insurance, but I didn't take it). So I assumed this would cost me quite a bit.
Today I visited the official repair service in my city and was told that the repair would cost me 60 eur and about 40 minutes. I'll have to wait because they don't have the part in white, but it was a relief, I was expecting a higher price.

You could just buy a case for it (I got a nice one off ebay for £2.99), stick a screen protector on the back to hold the glass together, and stick it in the case. Doesn't really matter if the back glass is broken then, does it? Lot cheaper than 60 euros!

I ordered a case the same day I got the phone, but it's still on the way. It had a screen protector when it happened, so it held the glass pieces. I'm getting it fixed anyway, I want it to keep on being waterresistant

Not looked too closely, but is the glass part of the waterresistance or is it on top of the case? There's a pressure check you could do if that's the only reason you're getting it fixed.

I'm not sure, and it's a good suggestion, but I'll pay, I don't want to have a broken phone. I doesn't look good.

Besides, I don't believe it's fragile. It was just bad luck. I've owned a Z for a year and a half, dropped it several times (some without case) and never got damaged.
I have my phone repaired, well actually it couldn't be repaired and Sony gave me a new one. Yep, they GAVE me a new one. I didn't have to pay a thing for it. I was in doubt whether to mention this, since more people could claim this althoug every scenario is different of course, but I do post this since I think this is great service by Sony! I really want to thank them for this!!!

Good to hear! Congrats
Then again, the phone IS slippery. I have noticed it many times on tables which werent totally levelled for example. It just floats to the edge, very slowly... So it's not really a user mistake here.
Anyway, I have a screenprotector on the back now and that also helps with the slippyness
Thnx. Yes, not really a user mistake but I could imagine that other companies would have let me pay. I know have the Sony SCR24 cover, so the slippery problem is solved.

i was lurking around the Z3 forums to search for some topics related to the fact that my brand new Z3 frontglass + digitizer was broken a few weeks ago.
I cannot proof that the damage wasnt my fault ( or is ) so i sent the phone to GSMWijzer (The Netherlands) to let them investigate it ( probably went to dynafix ). They told me that after their findings they would inform me whether i have to pay or not.
Today i got my answer??? GSMWijzer mailed a track & trace nr for a brand new Z3 !!!
I am really happy that whoever made the decision to let this one go under guarantee , delived such good service!
I mailed them to thank them and also asked for some explanation why the decision was made to send a new Z3 and also to clarify the reason to charge no costs at all.
I they mail anything usefull which can help future Z3 victims then i will post it here.
For now: i agree with the topicstarter: YAY for Sony !

You have guts, I didn't dare to ask why they gave me a new one, since I was afraid it might be a mistake and I had to pay anyway. I thought that not only my glass was broken, but also my whole phone didn't work anymore, they gave me a new one. But then again, they could have charged me for the glass only? Or Sony accepts the slippery issue and therefor refunds it? Anyway, more than a million thumbs up for Sony!
these phones slide like no other i have owned for sure , put a super thin tpu case on it and it will stop , i cant wait till i get mine , the phone in just over a week has slipped off my leather sofa , my bed stand on vibrate it will run away from u lol i put a anti car dash slip on my couch where i sit it mostly till i get the case tomorrow smh
