[Q] Roaming Control - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently bought Roam Control app and I was able to roam but sprint just capped my roaming saying I already used my amount of roaming data I can use
I wanted to keep roaming so maybe I can get out of my contract but does anyone know if theres a way I can still keep roaming?

the limit per month on data roaming is 300mb. idk if theres a way to keep roaming without a contract

No I meant I cant keep roaming they already capped me down , so im using their network instead of verizons lol but I guess they do the same as t mobile after certain amounts of gbs they capp u down but with roaming .

Your phone isn't capped, the account is. They haven't modified your phone at all, but you could try a different PRL and then load up roam control. Just don't update the profile?

That is a great way to get your account booted

What do u mean booted lol

I mean, you do that long enough, Sprint will give you a warning. Then they just cancel your account.

Roam Data Guard No Working!?!

I travel to Canada a bunch and never use data because of the price. I'll normally find a hotspot and use that. On my Droid Incredible, I just left never enabled Data Roaming...and never had any issues.
The other day with my thunderbolt... I turned on my phone and it just started downloading emails and such. I tried changing the Data Roaming setting back and forth and it seems to do nothing.
Anyone experience this?
I'm obivously going to call Verizon when I get my bill because I'm not paying a dime for the roaming data.

Not INTERNATIONALLY they dont!
I would highly recommend calling them before you get your bill. Notify them of the problem as soon as possible and I don't see how they could hold you liable for the charges. If you hold back, it could be interpreted as an attempt to get free roaming data.
Oh ... and until they fix it, you could toggle mobile data entirely while you're in Canada.

NO sir. MetroPCS is CDMA. G2x is GSM. If you activated your G2x on Metro, it would explode into purple flames and summon the Wishmaster.

Your point is, I must be stoned for the activation to have any affect on me? Lol.
I was hoping it would be both gsm and cdma but oh well. Simple Mobile just keep threatening me that they are going to suspend my account for using too much data, AFTER they slowed me down to dial up.
WOW, i didn't know simple mobile could suspend your account for too much data use. I thought they just throttled you and that was it. You could try jumping on one of the new T-mobile value plans, its not a bad deal. I think its about 60 bucks for unlimited mins, text, and 2GB of data.

why don't you use tmobile prepaid option?
if your phone is unlocked you might also consider getting straighttalk from walmart. you would have to buy a GSM phone (they have 2) and then use that sim card for the g2x.
Does straighttalk have unlimited data?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
Yes straigttalk does have unlimited data but if your using a t-mobile phone you will only get 2g speeds of edge as straigttalk use's att's network

Got throttle but they claim thy haven't

Only getting 0.1 download but when i switch the apn i get fast data. Any suggestions.
They also gave me a $30 credit and are still claiming i haven't been throttled.

When throttled there is an obvious note on the account on their end that the phone has been throttled.
What department did you speak with, and what is your current data usage
4.2 gb of data used and i spoke to data support. Cycle ends on the 20th.
My speed using the new apn. Its not a big deal because im not in a LTE area yet but its just the principle of it.
Same thing is happening to me right now. Only used 1.8gb of data and I'm getting 0.05-0.1 speed. I called AT&T and they told me that I'm not throttled, my cycle ends on the 18th. I don't know wtf is wrong with AT&T but I'm sick and tired of the crap they're pulling. I won't be surprised if they start throttling unlimited data users around 1-2GB. I guess I'll be using my monthly 4G T-Mobile sim for now.
So your saying they credited you the price of the data plan for getting throttled?
Now I'm seriously tempted to go try this, even though I'm not throttled, because I really love screwing AT&T.
They credited me for $36 to be exact. They're the ones who stated that i shouldn't be throttled, so why should i pay for service that isn't working. Everytime they screw up, they should credit your account. People who let them slide are crazy.

When you get throttled on AT&T 3G, it's like the same speeds as Sprint's WiMax.

The exact same thing happened to me. I called and they said I wasn't throttled but I was getting .18 d/l but 1.10mb u/l. I changed the apn to get my speeds back and the last day of my billing cycle I changed it back to the pta apn. I never got a 5% warning but got some weird message about my account but it never warned me about my data.

I usually just use the skyrocket to do a quick login and do what I need to do. Since AT&T is throttling for no reason now, i'm gonna tether my laptop for work off my skyrocket. I usually would never do that but they clearly are throttling me and not admitting it.
Same here. I called ATT cs and actually got to tier 3 support they said I was not Throttled. But admitted that there had been several reports. They suggested I use an Alternate APN (that was a suprise). I was already using the "phone" APN hack that is discussed in another thread. It is hard to tell the BS from the truth with them. They said they would get back to me, but I am not holding my breath. Hope my alternate APN keeps working. BTW I am not in a LTE market.

I've get throttle every month, I wouldn't be surprise if at&t it's doing some fault play here. I when from using 500 mb to 1.5 gb to 4-5 gb's per month. How? I'm not doing nothing different here the same occasional Facebook, web, YouTube ect I was doing 6 months ago. On another note 3gb for $30 is still to low at&t I'll say 5gb is about right for $30

They already are. I hit 2,000 MB smack dab on, and throttled instantly.
AT&T offered to exchange my phone - without admitting that i was throttled.
the only way i could confirm i was throttled was:
1) my speeds (lol)
2) if i log into www.att.com/wireless and look at recent data usage, my "2041 mb of unlimited" is in RED - and normally its in green
im at 40gb now after 3 days of being throttled (few tricks, hspa, phone apn, then lots of netflix etc)
wonder if i can push 100gb this month
Very interesting indeed. They claimed yesterday that there has been no change in policy. Users will continue to be notified and unless the user is speaking to the wrong person, there is no reason one would be told they are not throttled when they are.

Force roam sensation???

Hello all, i have an HTC sensation and would really like to get out of my contract without paying ETF, i am going studying aboard withing the next 4 months and my contract is not up till another year and a half,
I was following this slickdeals thread about cancelling with t-mobile and one of the steps states you can get out of contract if you are constantly roaming,
http://slickdeals.net/f/3981466-Cancel-T-Mobile-Contract-ETF-free?
is there any way i can force my phone to roam on att's towers? any help is apprecaited
I know there was a way to do this on my old evo and the ATT speeds where phenominal lol
You don't need to do that. If you can prove that you are going to be in a place without normal coverage, aka, you are leaving the country, they will cancel your contract for free, though if you still owe on the price of the phone, you still have to pay for that no matter what.
Using XDA premium, you should be too!

another SIM would imply you are paying some other carrier ?!? (which defeats the purpose)
I'd also like to know how you force a GSM phone on to a different network.. ie. when I search for network operators, I might see Tmobile and AT&T, but I can't get it to use AT&T even when its available..
Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network

You can pick your carrier in the network settings but if roaming is not allowed in your area, you won't be able to connect. Otherwise your sim will still default you back to tmo. I know back in the day you could alter the priorities. Don't know how to do that on android. Might be blocked at the sim level.

[Q] AT&T Throttling My Data?

I have had my Nexus 5 since the beginning. I am on AT&T of course. I pulled the sim from my HTC One XL and put it into the 5. No problems. Up until this week I think. Speedtest will not go above 0.56Mbps. I am in Houston with plenty of LTE service. I check my At&T account and they have changed the logo above my phone number. It used to show Android HTC. So, I figure that Att has figured out that i am not using "their" phone. I call them up and they say that the IMEI's do not match. The tech guy was cool. He said he was trying to help me. That nothing was going to change. He did a few things but no dice. I wasnt sure if i was supposed to tell Att anything as they might ruin my chances at having good service with an unlocked phone. Anyway, i have restored my phone, changed APNs, and now I dont know what to do.
I don't know but just curious does your accrual signal say LTE?
I didn't tell att when I switched from an iPhone. LTE was still fine

Download tellinfo app. Then switch to edge. Once you'll see E sign switch back to LTE/GSM. Should help
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I just gave them my IMEI number and it all worked fine. I have a grand fathered unlimited plan too that was unaffected. I think Google made sure their phone would work with at&t.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I tried the Tellinfo app. What am I looking for? My signal strength is -106. It used to be around -85. I have tried the ATT PHONE APN and the ATT LTE PTA APN. Both are working the same. ATT is supposed to call back today. He said after resetting the phone, the last two efforts would be to send a new sim, and if that doesnt work, then its my phone. Now, I'm pretty sure it's not the phone. I also didnt have an option for Edge. THere was EvDo.

Well you do know if your on the Unlimited Data Plan on AT&T you get throttled down to about that speed after hitting 5GB .... .
Its probably data cap 5GB throttle city. It happened to me. I called ATT and they confirmed I was at 8GB for the month and had to wait till cycle flipped. After flip flying at "super fast" ATT speeds again.

I am on the Unlimited data plan. I didnt realize they would throttle me after 5mbs. I havent done any downloading of custom roms yet. I used to use data like crazy with my One XL and I never noticed any loss of data. I will try the cingular APN just for shiz. Thanks.
EDIT: I checked with ATT and yeah, my cycle ends either on the 7th or 8th and I have used about 6mb. So, fingers crossed for next week.

You're lucky. I'm using my N5 on T-Mobile and I lost my grandfathered unlimited plan. I had no data (but emails and SMS worked ... strange). After a week of communications and testing tech support claimed that the N5 was not compatible with the grandfathered plan (it did show up in my account on the website as Unknown with unlimited data). After upgrading to a metered plan my service is excellent.

Can you confirm what plan and rom you're on? I'm on unlimited lte plan and I USED to be able to do this but since switching to the Nexus 5 they won't even let me connect via wap.cingular on the nexus 5 (even on 3g). I have no problem doing this on my nexus 4 or my i9100 gsII, but either the nexus 5 or att has been blocking me since

That's what T-Mobile does on its grandfathered plans after 4.5 GB and on its new metered plans after you exceed your plan limit. Great, huh?
