Hello guys, i'm writing this post cause request a new Nexus 5 phone.. for the GPS' problem that i have on this one.
I bought it at day one and it is a 32 GB Black "310k" version .

Some phones have GPS issues. Others do not. There are no revision/batch numbers so it doesn't matter. You can tell the month a Nexus was manufactured by the first 3 characters of the serial number printed on the box

If it's refurbished, then Google would have said its refurbished. Nor is there a set "refurbished revision".
So.. Google will inform the client if it is refurbished?

As far as I know, they do. I don't think brand-new ones are sold/used as replacements anymore anyways.

I understood the problem. Even if I did not understand but now do, it wouldn't change the fact that there are no revisions.
However, as I said - you can tell the month of manufacture from the serial number on the box. That is not indicative of new or refurb. They could have a 10month old new / unused one on a shelf.

All replacements are now refurbished. Your refurbished device can may have been originally manufactured at anytime in the last 10 months.
There were no hardware revisions.

Unfortunately, the box the refurbed devices come in are a plain white box with a SKU # on it. No serial #, no retail box, nothing. So with these replacements being sent out now, there is no way to tell what "batch" the phones originally were in.
To the OP:
When I spoke with Google Devices Support on the phone, the rep stressed many times that I will be receiving a refurbished phone. Never one was it alluded that a new device would be shipped.

So I ordered a Nexus 5 32GB, Hell yeah!
Unfortunately I'm not from the US so if there is some sort of hardware problem, I can't replace it.
Do you think the 1st batch will come with hardware problems like the Nexus 4 did?
P.S If any mods think this thread is pointless, you are welcome to delete it.

Never possible to know the answer to this type of question. I got a Nexus 7 early and it was ridden with problems, but my N4 was/is flawless to this day. Manufacturer difference? Luck? No way to tell. I'm sure they put a lot of effort into this device, since it features LTE and is probably projected to sell more.
I had a "first batch" Nexus 4 and had no problems with it whatsoever. Don't recall there being any major problems..
There was hardware issues with the n4? I don't remember seeing any.. The nexus 7 on the other hand.... Damn asus

There are service bulletins leaked on the Russian famous 4PDA mobile forums for the Nexus 4. If you check them, you will find, that there was one major HW fault related to not showing charging status, when phone put on wireless cradle in a shut-off state. Besides, several HW corrections, including button design, buzz/hiss problem, back cover and other minor issues were addressed by LG at least up to June month. So, there is constantly bug discovery and correction process going on by LG, thus, for sure, the 1st batch of Nexus 5 will have hidden problems, which may or may not affect the overall usability and operation directly, but, for sure, they better be fixed then left to be lived with. Me, personally, never buy 1st batch products nowadays, as they are all released in a rush with just light and incomplete testing done. If I decide to upgrade, I will do it no sooner than April/May next year, as it generally takes about 3-4 months for the manufacturer to acknowledge the issues and justify the production process.
Hope, this helps!

The only ones that come to mind are the lack of raisers on the back that they included in the newer revisions of n4 and that some users vibration deteriorated over time. I have the vibration problem but kind of just lived with it rather than returning since it happened a few months down the line.

You ask a question that is unanswerable by anyone here. Does it really matter what people think? Only using the device will give us the answer for this.

But still i am a little worried as i cannot trust chinese retailers to sell original stuff every time. screenshots wont help us. they could of very well put kit kat on a knock off phone. we need pics of the actual phone
china nexus rockssss
Check the photos.
Looks real from the photos. I'd get Android Hardware Info from the play store and install it. No way that they can fake the readout of that. If you can't get it in China let me know and I'll DL it and pull the APK for you.
Looks completely legit.
a few points to note..
(1) it seems to me that this is a genuine Nexus 5..
(2) D820 is the north american model that works with the said area's lte only.. if u plan to use lte in other areas of the world, u should get a D821 model..
(3) better blur the 3rd photo's IMEI information (that little label), or remove that photo completely.. IMEI is ur phont's unique id and u dont want to disclose it to others..
I think it is ok, hardware wise.

@rootSU
It looks like "Android Hardware Info" from JFDP Labs. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dama.hardwareinfo).
Thanks all of you guys. Loving mine and just found out that I didn't even paid that much of premium for not ordering from Google play. Mine cost about 488 USD.

Good day,
I am curious, are the RMA units from Google Play directly brand new phones, or refurbished/repaired ones? And is there any way one can check on the N5? (I read about the RTN menus, but that doesn't seem to work for me).
Thanks!
I´m interested in this because i´m waiting for my replacement
Yes. They send back a new retail unit when doing warranty replacements.
Refurbished

Yes even I'm interested in knowing this.
Does anyone know how long it takes to get the replacement?
I think they are new, at least in my case. But all 4 of them have had defects on the screen (dust?) and I am waiting for my 5th device...
I had to replace my Nexus 5. The CS rep at Google said that all Nexus 5 replacements were new. Hope this helps.
If all the replacements Nexus 5s are new... Where goes all the Nexus 5s we send them?

Hi friends,
I was just wondering if the hardware-updated N5 is being sold now at the Google Play shop. I want to buy the updated one, but I don't know if they're still shipping the old version. If that's the case, I would like to wait until I can buy the updated one.
Anyone's got a clue?
Thank you so much
Mine shipped from the Play Store on December 3rd, arrived on the 9th and appears to be the updated version. The buttons have no rattle. I took a picture of the speaker holes and compared it to the photo in this thread and the size of mine matches the larger holes in what is supposed to be the updated version.
That's my experience, nothing official, so I can't say whether one you order from the Play Store would be the same or not.
Thank you.
I've read that post and some people have been given an updated N5, but for other people not. Let's hope here in Spain arrives one updated.
Looks like 312 and newer are the modified ones.

Check your box. If SN starts with 310K, it's old. 311K is revised.
dnt get so exited

Mine is a 311, I thought it was the 312 going forward that were revised> Mine doesn't look like it has the larger speaker grille and the buttons dont rattle, although I do have it in a Spigeon Slim Armor case... but even before the case no rattle.
Probably because if there is a difference its not even noticeable.

I have the 311 and im not sure if its the updated one or not but i have absolutely no button rattle or anything so im completely happy with mine
Do you think they'll keep building new hardware versions indefinitely? It may be, in fact, what they intend to do, since they don't produce huge numbers of devices all at once any more, but, rather, add smaller batches to their stock according to projected demand. This certainly gives them the opportunity to work out the kinks with LG, which, in theory, would have a significant effect on customer satisfaction. If this is the case, however, then waiting for the next best iteration could bring you right up to the release of the Nexus 6.

the 3xx designation is not a hardware rev, its just a production date
310 - Oct 2013
311 - Nov 2013
312 - Dec 2013
Guess what is going to happen right after New Years..
401 - Jan 2014
All of this stuff about new hardware is probably BS. Things are probably fitting better/rattling less/not as yellow/blah blah blah because they arent shipping out bad phones rather than magically making them better.
One guy on Reddit gets a phone that rolled over from 311k to 312k that happened to have a larger speaker hole by 0.002" and automatically that means Google updated everything. Not so fast...
Well so basically I have been considering gifting my mint S3 to my sister since she needs a phone and I have been thinking about getting the Nexus 5 for a while, almost pulled the trigger today but did a little research and was shocked by so many units coming out with defects which concerns me since I am studying abroad in the Dominican Republic and its very complicated to go trough a RMA process. I am considering the 32gb black model from the USA play store, from what I have heard Google/LG have done a few improvements to serial number 312k. I would like to know if under these circumstances is it a good time to buy a Nexus 5? What are the chances of getting a 312k serial unit?
I just cannot understand how can so many units come defective, I have yet to see an iPhone with these kind of issues but it is not just an LG issue, many manufacturers are suffering from this.

I got to say I am starting to get quite skeptical about the defends vs the prima donnas in this forum. I ordered my first one after reading after all the threads and it was flawless. Then I ordered a second one and it also came flawless. What are the chances I am just that lucky?

Wait for half a year. Then go for it. That's June. Almost guaranteed you will have no defects.
And @cas8180 you just got major ****ing lucky with those two. I envy you. I got light bleeds.
