Lanyard Hole? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't see a hole to attach a lanyard like the previous XZ phones.... can anyone confirm if the Z3 will have one or not? Having a lanyard hole is a pretty big plus for me now that I've gotten those DEFF carbon finger rings.

From the pictures I've seen, I'd say it doesn't allow for a lanyard to be connected (If the pictures on Sony's own site are anything to go by) ... I couldn't see anywhere for one on the Compact either but yet certain sites are selling them for that phone , but yet they weren't selling one for the Z3 which suggests it doesn't allow for it.

Thanks for replying... I actually saw a hands on video and the person describing it showed that the lanyard hole is on the left. It's no longer in the corner though. On the left side of the phone at the bottom is what looks to be a black hole. That's where the lanyard goes in.
It's funny all these hands-on reviews and people talking about what's on each side of the phone, yet they always skip the lanyard hole.

I'd assume most reviewers might assume it's the mic hole unless they're told otherwise. I think Sony's the last hold out for lanyard loops.

:S
after a week of checking pics and hands-on video, i'm pretty sure it's official: SONY GIVES UP LANYARD
:/
So sad, i don't get it, i'm paragliding with my phone, do you think i'll get a call in the air without any wristlet?
Your device si 1-m waterproof, do you think we'll play with it in the water without a lanyard?
C'mon sony, you were the last to think about it...c'mon, what does it cost, just a little all.... c'mon c'mon
So sad

i did a little editing and looks like you can clearly see the loop inside the hole.

Could ne a great news, but as the XZ3C, demo device and customers versions seems to be different
for example: first official pics of xz3c:
and nowadays official pics:

There is definitely a lanyard hole in the Z3, I can add a photo. But it's definitely there. And it's no demo device...
Retail device from the german carrier "Congstar". Should be added to the OP

Same with the European Z3 version: Lanyard hole is at the lower left side.

Glad to find this thread....
In fact I was prepared to drop Sony (well... maybe)..
I have to have stuff around my phone - a good screenprotector and a lanyard and I'm ready
(Now we almost only need 32gb+ and IR in them too (use a movie app where dl only is to internal sd )

Coming from Xperia Z the lanyard is a huge deal... if i hadn't have that strap my phone would be dead and even 7 cat's lives wouldnt been enough for the amount of time I almost dropped it

Got Tired of Waiting on the Car Dock...

so I made my own...
My 1990 Jetta finally has navigation!
***REQUESTED HOW-TO***
First I make a car-specific mounting bracket (sorry, neglected to take many pics of this process):
Then I make the phone specific cradle:
Very cool man... what wallpaper is that?
Nice mod man. How did you make it? Can you post a little tutorial and can you make it rotate 90 degrees?

It is the Earth Live Wallpaper found on the market or at this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623654 He just set the globe size pretty high so it zooms in I think.
Actually, the background was the World Tour app, but the one you guys mentioned is even cooler; just added it.
Sure, I can post up some of the "in process" pics for ya.
It doesn't rotate right now, as I never felt a reason for that, but if I were to source a hinge that rotates 90 degrees, it would. Thinking of that, I had a phone holster a few years ago that did that...
I'll post up those pics here in a few...
Velcro just in case eh? I really need to make one of these.
Dual lock.
Nice job! Looks like that will do the car dock nicely
Car dock spotted in this video at 1:10. http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2010/02/10/google-nexus-one-car-kit-on-show/

YEAH!
You made me think of making my own.
Simple enough.
But what did you use for the backing? Is that aluminum? Cause it looks like you bent it fairly easy with the pliers.

Both the mounting bracket, and the phone cradle are made out of sheet aluminum; the mounting bracket is approximately 2mm thick, while the phone cradle is approximately 1mm thick.
The aluminum is strong enough to retain its shape, but flexible enough to allow the phone to slip in and out of the cradle and hold it there for years - I've used this method for five years now.
You add an external speaker and charging capabilities and you get the money I was going to give Google.
Really though... good job, very clever. I do wish that Google would hurry with theirs....
This is the one I'm using: Bracketron PHV-200-BL
http://www.amazon.com/Bracketron-PH...e-Holder/dp/B0014S5FVQ/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_1
Target has this one for $19.99. When I bought it from Amazon a month ago it was $12. It's $13.88 now. So far, it works really well and I'm really happy with it....until the official dock comes along. It's made mostly for regular GPS's but works with the Nexus One just fine without an issue.
EDIT: Just saw they have the PHV-202-BL for $5.73 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B2PPYC/ref=oss_product
This is hardcore.

Bluetooth is my external speaker, and the car charger provides my charging capabilities. You'll notice in the initial design pics, I blocked off the areas surrounding the phone that would cover a control button, or socket. I do that so I can still use the phone when it's in the cradle.
Thanks for the compliments.

I bought it at an industrial metal supply shop (they sell to the public also) for around 8 bucks for a sheet (approx. 4'X5').

Nice and straight to the point. The glass doesn't contain the digitizer, right? It also doesn't need to be glued to the actual oled itself? Isn't the glue between the glass and the oled causing the dark blotches? The oled should be plastic so you should be able to clean it with a light solvent before putting the new glass on. Sorry for so many questions. I haven't cracked mine but its nice to know it can be fixed cheap.

Carbon fibre vinyl wrap. (self mod)

The chrome paint had started to chip off on my mates old phone that he was selling so I decided to wrap it with my left over vinyl wrap. All I did is place a big piece of vinyl wrap over the screen, then used a hairdryer to mould it around the corners. I used a blade to cut around the screen and the back of the frame and finally peeled the excess wrap off.
Here are some pics.

Thanks man. I used a non branded vinyl wrap from Ebay (If you want the best quality vinyl wrap, I'd go for the 3M branded ones). This is basically what I used. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CARBON-FI...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5ae7791258
Be sure the to check the size of the wrap before you buy. :good:

Basically what I did was heat the vinyl with a hairdryer, this allows you to stretch the vinyl however you want so you get a wrinkle free finish. Here's a video to show you how it's done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMhvU8Dk3CE&feature=youtube_gdata_player
No it doesn't slip off, it's relatively sticky.
I did the same thing on my Xperia Play a couple of days ago.

Gap between glass and frame

Does anyone have a slight gap between the glass the the frame of the phone?
Slight gap at the back (volume button side) where i can fit a piece of paper while the other side is sealed tight.
Holy crap! I have it too!
Just fit a sheet of paper in it. The other side is sealed though.
It might be normal then. I just want to be sure thats not gonna affect the water resistance, but i took this in the shower on day 1 already with no issues.

Wow! you guys are lucky man. You guys can get a replacement (for silly issue) until you get a perfect piece. After watching the teardown video, it looks like the source of the sealing is the glue that affixes the glass. I don't think the bezel contributes much to the waterproofing. I could be wrong, though.
omg I noticed that too!
Also, i can feel the metal bit sticking out a bit more on the volume side
Pics? I use a silicon cover so I can't see it.

The first image seems to be similar to my phone. I don't understand the second image tho.

Looks like the difference between the left side and the right side of the phone. Notice the left side doesn't have the gap
He claims that the white version has a back glass askewed and this is a top and bottom part of one side.
vhc: Nope, that was a problem of the black one.
My phone is looking normal to me.

oh apologies

S8 screen is prone to cracking. What about the S9 will make it sturdier? Keep S8?

I , along with MANY others, have had their S8 screen crack.
Mine was in a Best Buy Platinum hard case, with a Zagg Glass screen protector, and only fell from my lap to the floor under my office desk.
RIDICULOUS!!!!!
I've never cracked a phone in 25 years of daily use of whatever was the current flagship.
And, the crack spread to the selfie camera and now distorts pictures when using it.
So, I'm trying to learn what improvements are being offered on the S9 that will make is less prone to cracking than the S8, if any.
(I know the unveil is in 2 days, but I believe all the specs have already leaked)
Bottom line, I need to decide whether to buy a new unlocked S9, keep a S8, or try to find a deal on a leftover S7.
Thanks in advance.

I dropped my phone from 3-4 without any case from Pocket height on hard surface. One time even on concrete road also. but nothing happened.. nothing means literally nothing..
and I guess S9 will have same protection as S8.. hope so if it has something better.

You're a very lucky person.
The S8 is ridiculously fragile and shatters from low impact events.
It's a fact that's not up for debate..
So, any info on the construction of the new S9 ????

My phone is in a spigen tough armor so I've dropped it down the stairs a few times, admittedly it's when I've got small pockets and it's dropped out, I've had the phone since last September and it hasn't had a screen protector on.... I'm reckless lol but the phone is still in perfect condition.

Maybe. Maybe not.
That's half a million dollar car.
Glad you've had good luck with your Spigen case..
Hopefully I'll get some better responses after the unveil on Sunday.
