Hey all !!
First of all thank you all for this. This haven. Can't imagine myself without your help.
I neesd some further help for my dumbass phone. Its galaxy grand neo. Nobody talks about this phone. Nobody ever wanted to. I know why.
But still I can't seem to get a new moto x for me. I just wanted to know if there's a way to use gravityscreen app (due courtesy) and any of the dream screen apps to make it look like the moto x feature of active screen. Let the battery die. I just loved that feature. And there's one other feature which allows us to continue playing songs even when when a call arrives. Just enjoy the music. Can I get those settings via any combination of apps ?

Background:
Old Man Zombie is getting old. He is hard of hearing and has a problem where he cannot control his hands from shaking. Its to the point he can't cut his own steak at dinner. I'm coming to my fellow android faithfuls in hope of something that can help him actually have a phone that he will use.
Three Problems I would like to help solve
Hard of Hearing - Loud phone or I need to be able to do the louder volume hack
Shaky Hands - I need a simple big button keypad.
Simple Android - No need for anything but the phone he doesn't want email txting etc.
He is currently on Verizon but I'm on t-mobile and might just get him on my plan if I can get a plan as well.
Thank you everyone in advance
As much as i hate to say this. How bout an iPhone?

I'm not sure about specific phones that might help but I know there's an app that lets you change the default dialer for android, couldn't you use that or find one wit a large keypad to help your father? I also know that DSP Manager can increase volumes on some phones so that might help as well. Just some ideas to consider if you find a phone your father likes but is missing the features you need. Hope you find something that works!
Is a smartphone completely necessary? There is a series of phones sold at BestBuy I believe called the Jitterbug designed specifically for the elderly. Large buttons, simple menus and loud volume.
I currently have a Thunderbolt that just recently became close to unusable to me. (The power button does not work without me jamming it into an edge of a table or wall...I heard this is a common problem). I talked to Verizon, I didn't have insurance since I've never needed it before, all my previous phones have worked so well, and they could not offer me any good options, I'd have to buy a new phone at sticker price.
So I thought to hit up eBay to see what I could get. Then I realized, there are no phones out there that really call out to me as of yet. So then I had an idea, why don't I just get a phone that is easy to root/customize/hack, but use it normally until I do find a phone that does stand out to me. That way, when I do get a NEW phone, I'll have a secondary to "play" around with.
I am a software developer and know a thing or two about OSs and ROMs but not a whole lot. I've hacked various things like 360/Wii games down to the binary level, not "Hi I edited a text file and gave me more $$$ in my game, I'm 733t". That being said, I'm not interested in using easy 1-click install programs to customize the phone. I actually want to understand how it all works. Basically, I just want a phone that acts as a playground that I can just play around with. Any idea's what phone would be best for what I seek? Sorry, I am restricted to a phone that works on the Verizon network, but if there is a phone outside of Verizon that stands out too, I wouldn't mind hearing about it, but I need a Verizon phone unfortunately.
Also, I'd rather have a phone that has a little kick too (hardware-wise)...no sense in hacking an Atari when you can hack an Xbox, if you catch my drift.
I have a fascinate, and it's pretty easily hackable and nearly impossible to brick. very glad I made the decision to get this phone.

Hello Everybody,
Im having a very frustrating experience. I just had my htc one x replaced by at&t after damaging the screen. I actually bought a new screen to put it on myself but when I was expressing nervousness about installing it (despite doing it fine before on a previous device) somebody else in my family called at&t and bought me a $99 replacement using the replacement plan as a present and a favor. It's the same exact physical phone as my old one, but things are different on it, and I don't like it. I figured out the issue is that the phone came shipped with HTC sense version of atleast 5 (found this by googling pics) while my old phone had 4. I like 4.. not 5.
Don't even get me started on why. Biggest thing is changing from 5 or 6 home pages to scroll through to only 3. I loved having the space. I never even used the app menu, haha.
Of course, looking it up now this seems to be a pain. Ive been sitting here for hours and this data is so hard to get through because of HTCs airheaded desicion to have 6 different phones with the same name. I feel like im going insane with contradictory info and google just not delivering due to the confusing names. I keep getting info for the desire x, too.
My main question is: I have an at&t htc one x and I need to downgrade to sense version 4. How do i do it, and can somebody point me to the correct video (preferred) or thread for this task for my phone? I don't care how much of a pain it is I will figure it out. I'm also terrified I can't do it because I've been hearing rubbish about the at&t version of this phone...
Im so frustrated. Isn't android based on linux? So why is everything so closed and proprietary? Open source being used to make money and force people to have one version of a program? Not having control over what I have on my device and being able to customize it how I choose to the point where I am forced into a new version of software I don't like? Oh and not to mention that I can't uninstall facebook and twitter which I don't use. I hate this. I loved my phone but this is making me so angry. This is the exact thing I HATE about certain electronics. I want to have things how I want them, it's mine. I'm picky. I like customizing all my things and having them to suit me. I'm a control freak with computers.... end rant.
Thank you very much for any help,
Nichyun

I dont think you quite understand how android works. You dont need to use the Sense homescreen if you dont want to. Install Nova Launcher (or any launcher) from the Play Store and you can customize it however you want. Theres no way to downgrade Sense without rooting. As for uninstalling Facebook and Twitter, you should be able to "disable" them in Settings>Apps. If you truly want an open experience with Android, you will have to root and install CyanogenMod, PA, SlimKat or one of the many other custom ROMs available. However, it is not something you can just follow a simple video to do. I'm not even sure the latest AT&T software is rootable. Someone else will have to chime in there.

I really dont get it, I guess thats why i posted here, ill admit that. Thanks for the info... I'll look into all of that. I don't want to try to root the phone though, I' rather get used to it, I suppose. I dont want to mess it up, not worth it. It is frustrating to me that I cant delete certain apps because they're really big and there is no sd card slot in this phone so I run out of memory. I feel like facebook and twitter is everywhere it pushes itself on people which bothers me...
I guess this question could be considered answered because I figured out I dont want to do it any more.

Apps installed on the phone do not take up your main phone storage. There are two separate disk partitions. The first one is ~2GB and holds your OS and applications. The second is ~10GB and holds your pictures, videos, external app data etc. Thats what an SD card would add on to if we had one. Installing more apps (that don't have extra parts, games often do for example) won't take up anymore of that space though. (however it is possible to install apps to the SD card) Anyways, like I said you can go into settings and "disable" any apps you don't want to show up in the app drawer anymore.
Hello! The biggest mistake of Google philosophy is that they don't now what an alarm is. For example: It is sunny outside and you are playing with LEGO blocks. Off course you don't want nothing to interrupt you. But suddenly it happens: a gigantic watermelon felt somewhere near you. Q: Whould you like to be interrupted with alarm or not?
So; could someone with knowledge make a mod to make alarm priority also in none mode?
Regards, Zagor
P.S. I'm not sorry for my english because it is not my native.
Well, first of all, you have two options on the volume:
None and Priority. The latest has the alarm as a priority. Use that one instead. That way you still have time to finish, dress up, and hide from the blast.
Or pray, because if that was a real scenario, being able to hear the alarm wouldn't save your life.

You didn't get the point. If I want to use Priority, I would, if I want to my wife call me beetwen my gaming adventure. But if I don't I will put phone to None. So, do you get it.

I've allready take care for this situation. I have a NFC tag mounted on my finger, so when I'm going to situation as descripted I use NFC trigger to turn off location and mobile data to device administrator like Device Manager became unuseful. But she can still call me to ask where I am.
Oh by the way, cataclysm rom has the option for old school silent mode

@zagorteney, just a heads up. Might want to take a look at XDA rules and consider some edits. People of all ages use this site, after all. One of my most followed developers back in my GNex days was only 14 years old...
Hello Ben! After many years off flashing custom roms (BTW - you were on Xperia, do you?) I'm tired of that. I just want to use Priority mode when there is situation, that my favourites people can call me (or anything else I wish to put in Priority mode via settings). But at night, all my family members are at home and I don't want nothing to boder me, except alarm in the morning, because I have to go to work and take my kids to school.
Dear RoyJ! I've allready cenzured my previous post. If 14-years old boy don't know what playing with Lego is, he probably isn't allowed to use internet by his parents.

Hello all, I just got the gear 2 neo and I have an HTC DNA phone unrooted. I have the phone and neo working for calls and all the regular apps that come with the watch. I really want to be able to rerespond to the texts from my watch and I see the forums about rooting the watch and installing apps on the watch but honestly I am kinda lost. I know I could just mess with my build prop on my phone to get the Samsung apps on it but honestly the HTC DNA is too much of a pain in the a** to root. Can someone please help me thank you for your time and before anyone says "this is what the search button is for" I already know about the button. I am looking for someone to help with a walk-thru......again thank yo
