Hi.
This phone was working perfectly and I left it to go away to another country so it must have discharged it's battery.
When I got back it would not turn on. Even after charging for a day, it will not turn on.
When I have the charging cable connected, it goes to Google Logo Screen and it loops (restarts over and over again)
There is no error message.
Picture is attached so please let me know what to do. It was a gift so no receipt to claim warranty.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Try booting into stock recovery and clearing cache, reboot.
If that doesn't work then you'll have to unlock the bootloader (which wipes data) and try flashing the factory images. A guide for that can be found in the first link of my signature.

I just tested and I am not able to get into recovery more...I am not sure what that mean. Should I connect Nexus to computer and see if it's recognized by computer and try to reload stock ROM?
Phone was never unlocked or flashed...it was in the same state as it was bought.
Can this be hardware problem? I saw some reports of similar thing happening with power button problem or other hardware problems.

did you go into the bootloader, choose recovery, and it went to an android laying on its back?
This is the weirdest things...Spent days and days trying to bring it back to life and it would just reboot after GOOGLE logo. There was no way to get into recovery more.
I was looking around and someone said that tapping hard behind the power button with finger might bring it back and it did...so crazy. No matter what, I am a happy camper.
If you have tried everything, just try it...it behind power button and it might wake up the android that's been sleeping.

Can u explain how did u do that .what do u mean by behind the power button
I have the option to buy this device from a guy who has this problem and i have said to him to try the tips but not working. Computer does not see the device yet and thats logic since it just goes for 2-3 sec in bootloader he told me. Is this the power buttion failure or can it be fixed with nexus toolkit?
Price is €50 because of that and little damaged glass but i doubt if i can let it boot normal again.

I was running CM 10 and tried to flash the stock ROM. I flashed it fine (no errors in CWM, I also did clear the cache, dalvik, wiped system) after that I pressed reboot and nothing happened no Samsung just a black screen. I waited for around 10 minutes and then finally took out the battery. After that the phone wouldn't boot, recovery or download wouldn't work either. I tried everything I could and figured it's hard bricked. So if you have any suggestions on this they will be greatly appreciated. I still have my T-Mobile warranty, and the question I have is would they accept a phone that is rooted, but won't even boot so basically there is no way of finding out if it's rooted or not?

First error was you wiped system before reboot so there was nothing there to boot into... Leave the battery out for a bit then insert and boot into recovery.. reflash rom and this time only wipe cache and dalvik not system.. reboot.. Also how charged was the battery? maybe it is almost dead and needs charging!

Wait... you wiped system after flashing stock...? That wiped the stock rom That's why nothing booted after the reboot.
I don't know why you can't get into download mode... When you plug in a usb when the battery is out does the phone vibrate? If not, try another usb cable. If that fails then you do have a hardware issue. If the phone vibrates hold vol + and vol - and power and reinsert battery-you should get download mode.
AFAIK, they (T-Mo) put the phone in download mode and check the flash counter. If it says anything other than "no" they will not accept it. Any odin flash adds to the flash counter.

As said before it's a brick, no screen, no vibration nothing. And I don't think T-Mo can even get to the phone unless they jtag it or something, which they will most likely not do as it will cause discomfort and timeloss to the customers (ME)

Well I doubt they can do that at the store (I don't have any confidence in the salespeople's tech ability there lol), so if you are under warranty just tell them that when you unplugged it this morning it was like that
If it doesn't vibrate when plugged in and no battery installed then it sounds like a hard brick.
I think they do the manufacturer warranty as an exchange on the spot, so even if they do figure it out eventually you should be good.
But it would suck if they can get it into download mode at the store... better try numerous usb ports (even switch computers to be sure!) and cables to be sure Also wouldn't hurt to leave the battery out overnight and try again. If they get it in download mode... well two things. One they won't ever honor any warranty on the phone anymore (and they will give the phone back to you), but two... if they can get it in download mode have them leave it like that and rush back home - and then you're back in business
Kind of a win-win...

I got a replacement going from T-Mobile, they just sent out the new phone today, but I'm confused do I send them my broken one right now? or wait till the new one comes?
They should have explained everything on the phone, they will send you a box to return it in . And if they find out that it has been rooted and modded , you could be charged the full price for the phone. Every time I sent the phone back I've always read it back to stock if yours was bricked hopefully they won't notice

Help!
My power button recently started giving me problems. It acts like it is stuck down. Any time I shut down the phone or pull the battery it automatically turned back on when the battery is inserted.
I have to return it for a warranty replacement to verizon and tried to enter custom recovery to backup/wipe but when I do this it just gets stuck in a boot loop because of the power button. Luckily I entered the fastbook/odin recovery and it cleared the bootloop and let me boot back into the phone.
My question is, how am I going to wipe my phone to return it to verizon (i am rooted/unlcoked) if I cannot access any kind of recovery? I also do not want to return this phone with any of my personal data on it.
Someone please help!
What happens when you boot into Download mode? Does it stay in download mode? Cuz you could just Odin flash a stock tar that wipes /sdcard and you'll be good as new to return to Verizon.

Does mobile ODIN use its own recovery? I tried using TWRP Manager to do a backup, when it rebooted into recovery I got stuck in a boot loop. I am thinking if mobile odin somehow uses its own recovery or something that it might work. I will give it a try when i get home. Thanks.
I started having the same exact issue this weekend and am also currently waiting on a warranty replacement. However, I was able to get my phone to start working again after letting it set for a day, then apparently jamming the power button hard enough to make it work again. You might try that-- I know its not a very scientific or surefire way to make it work but who knows.
I'm also interested to see how many people have/have had/will have this problem.
blow into your power button. it might blow dust or wahtever is causing this to be moved out of the way.
Same thing has just happened to me. Also coincides with the camera not working at all. I took the phone apart, blew it down with compressed air and still a flaky power button with no camera. WTF is going on?

How did you get your warranty replacement? Did you just call and they did some troubleshooting them said they would mail one to you?
I called and they wanted me to do a factory reset which i was not ready to do, then later found out i cant do.
How are you going to factory reset the phone if the power button is broken?

I took my phone in to Verizon on Saturday, and had a sales rep look at it and he then filled out the form to send me a replacement. My actual reason for going was to see if they knew of a local cell phone repair shop because I figured they would give me a "Your phone is out of its one year warranty so we can't do anything" runaround, but they simply shipped me a new one.
I since had gotten lucky and had the power button return to a working state, and I Odin'd a stock tar file onto it... And about an hour later the power button has failed again and this time seems to be for good. So my phone is in a usable state until I get my refurb. Hopefully you can get it to work, I definitely wouldn't give up on trying to get into download mode, it seemed like it just decided to work once after repeatedly trying so you might get lucky. I wish I could be of more help but I feel your pain.
Hi
This is a well known issue with the nexus 5. My device permanently starts rebooting. The google Logo occurs and then it rebotos again. There is no start animation. If I press the power and volume down bottom I just see the bootloader screen and after half a second it reboots. I can't do anything.
My phone is rooted (no custom ROM) and before I go back to the shop I want to unroot it. However, with this behaviour I'm not able to do it, or is there any chance? Does someone know at least, how I can boot normaly to unroot it.
thanks for your help

Hello, take a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701
Is this really a well known issue? What were you doing directly beforehand? What have you tried to do to fix it? Have you tried using fastboot commands to reload factory images? Are you a toolkit only user? Have you tried a factory image through that?

Well IMHO it is a well known issue (see for example the wikipedia page or just have a look in tech forums). Directly before, I was writing an SMS and put it in my pocket (everything seems fine at that moment). 10 minutes later I just want to check my SMS and then it was already rebooting all the time. This was not the first time, I had this issue 2 todays before, but after approximatley 20 reboots it started correctly.
So far I was not able to use fastboot commands, since I can't enter fastboot. I didn't use a toolkit.

I have never heard of the issue where it was only rooted and it just randomly decides to reboot and keeps doing it for no reason at all without the user flashing something that it did not like. So are you saying that you cannot even turn the phone off it just keeps going into a bootloop and trying to enter fastboot does nothing?
I don't think this is a really well known issue.. Have not seen to many support threads about this.

If the wall charger is plugged into the phone, the nexus just starts rebooting. I see the white Google logo and after one or two seconds it reboots. Sometimes you see the boot animation (4 circles) but after a short time it restarts the phone not able get to the point where you unlock the SIM. Trying to get into fastboot mode is also not possible. The fastboot mode appears but after half a second the phone reboots again. If the nexus is not connected to a charger it repeats rebooting for about four times after that just a black screen appears. If I'm not able to get into fastboot mode I can't unroot the phone, right? So the links you shared are not useful in my case
I have the nexus now over a week and the phone worked perfectly fine the first week.
I have uploaded two films of the problem to youtube, see this link. One film is with the nexus plugged into the chrager and one where it isn't.
That is very strange.
I would definitely use Madpiercing's post and link to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521691&page=3 to try and fix it.

The very strange thing is, that it worked well over a week. the random rebooting starts two days ago, first time it starts again correctly after 5 min. Now it seems to hang in a loop.

After a while I was able to get into the fastboot mode: I plugged my nexus into the wall charger for about 1 hour. Then it booted correctly. I had plugged my nexus into the charger before (over night) without leading to the same result. It seems that it just starts working correctly as random as it crashes
Do you think it is a bug in the bootloader or that something happened while to rooting the phone?

hi,
i got a problem with my nexus 5 which is pure stock and unrooted . i think it was a SOD,the phone was turned off automatically . i charged it for next 5 hours. but still it doesnt boots up. i have gone through this and this links for help. Following the second link by pressing volume down and power button the phone wont enter bootloader mode. But when i connect the phone to a pc while pressing the key combination it enters the bootloader mode for a second and switch off then turn on again to bootloader and this cycle continues. Bootloader mode is not standing there permanently for flashing again too. also if i connect phone to a charger it keeps on showing google logo and then turn off and again this cycle continues.
Any help to this issue is welcomed.
More than likely corrupted data somewhere. U need to factory reset/wipe data. I've only ever used custom recovery but I'd assume that you could do this is stock. Have you tried holding both volume buttons down and power then selecting recovery in bootloader (some seem to have 2 bootloaders)

Is your bootloader even unlocked? Sounds more like a hardware issue to me especially if you haven't put any custom ROMs on it or anything.

I would strongly suspect hardware issue then. These Nexus devices are really hard to brick in software. Can't speak for the Nexus 5 specifically since I haven't had it that long but it behaves almost identically in how you unlock, custom recovery, root, and ROM to my old Galaxy Nexus and I put that thing through the ringer with how many ROMs I put on it and never had a problem I couldn't fix by going into the bootloader and using fastboot.
I would RMA it if I were you unless you're feeling adventurous and want to use iFixIt or something. From the way you describe it, it sounds like the connection to the battery is going loose. Could be something else but if you can't get into the bootloader there's nothing you can do software side.
This happened 2 days ago to my girlfiiend and I tried any possible combination to make it boot, but i just didnt, i called google for an RMA because it seemed like a hardware failure because it didnt get past Google Logo , not even for the Stock Recovery..
Phone automatically turned off and never turned on again.
So i recommend calling google for a replacement.
Hi,
I own a Motorola Moto E XT1022 (1st gen), which I bought from Flipkart India.
It came with KitKat 4.4.4, and I had put a soak test version of android L 5.0.2 , officially released by Motorola in May or something.
It worked fine until December 2015- then it started having issues. It would lock its screen automatically. When pressed the power button, it will show the screen that was on before locking. When touched, it will make me type the password. After typing it, it would work fine. Same thing would happen after 30 min. But that was not a big issue.
3-4 days after facing this issue, it restarted automatically. And it stuck on the Motorola M logo.
I shut it down, tried starting it again. No luck. One time, it started. I immediately performed a factory reset by going in settings. At that time, the soft keys (back, home and recent apps) didnt appear on the screen. That was strange. After factory reset, it restarted itself. Started working normally, all clean phone. (Still on 5.0.2 soak test obviously) But it didnt show the soft keys as I said before.
Then it restarted, again. And since then it is stuck in boot loops. I stormed the internet, and found how to factory reset using recovery, wipe data, even flash stock OS 4.4.4 from official Motorola website. I have done all that. I have-
1) Factory reseted using hard reset method
2) Wiped Cache partition
3) Flashed stock firmware from official website (KitKat 4.4.4)
It is still stuck in boot loops. It shows the M logo at startup, and stays like that forever. Only shuts down when all battery is drained. Now it is not charging either. It is stuck at 0%. But I think charging issue will be fixed by charging it for some hours.
Now, the phone is running stock OS, is completely cleaned, and is stuck in boot loops.
I cannot afford to buy another phone. When I asked Motorola for help using the Chat function of the Help app, they suggested me showing it to the closest service centre. I showed it to them but they were giving excuses that they will see if they can do...and didnt do anything. (PS I'm from India, and it is like this for most of the service centres here.)
So please, can anyone, please please please help me?
All the help is appreciated. Thank you!
PS. I have tried hard reset and wiping cache partition over 8 times now. It's still not working. Please suggest some other method if possible.
I guess it is because of the faulty soak test ROM.. Would you be interested in rooting? I guess flashing a different stable ROM would help.. Even a factory image..

Sir,
I am ready to do anything to make it work. If rooting is the solution, or maybe flashing a different OS, or both, I am ready to do anything.
Please tell me what should I do next.
Thank you for your valuable reply!
Alright .. First of all, can you access your phone right now? I mean, does it actually boot up?
Hit thanks if I helped!

Here is the current state of my phone-
It is completely out of charge.
When I charge it, after about ten minutes or so, it shows a symbol of pulling the wire out of the socket.
First time when I saw this, I switched off charging and pulled it off. Then the phone shut down as it had no charge.
Second time when I saw this symbol, I kept it charging. After 30 minutes, it showed the battery charging symbol, with 0%.
And I forgot to mention one thing. When I plugged in the charger and started charging the phone, the LED notification light glowed and it stayed on. No idea why. After some time, it stopped glowing. Battery showed 0% even after charging for about an hour. ( Note- LED notification light glowed up and went out randomly.)
( Then I got depressed and stopped charging the phone. Then it switched off as it didnt have any charge.)
Now, I think charging it for a long time will make it start again.
But I think I will get into boot loops after I start the phone. And it will stay like that until the battery is drained out completely.
Thank you!
PS. Should I start charging it right now? Its 12 midnight here, maybe I should keep it overnight. (Is it safe? The battery won't explode or anything right? Sorry I'm a little paranoid, since my uncle's micromax phone burst while charging.)

Now look this happens in my moto e too.. There was an issue with my power button, it restarted when ever i unlocked or locked my device.. I rooted, flashed a kernel which supports gesture wake and now i use the button rarely..
Now coming to ur problem, don't charge it overnight, might harm the battery at the most.. Charge it for an hour.. And try to boot the device up.. Only then, can i help you out..

Ok, I will charge it when I wake up tomorrow. It might not get enough charge in 1 hour, so I may have to charge it for 2-4 hours to start it. Thank you for your kind help! We will talk tomorrow. Good night!

Hi.
I have started charging the phone just now. Let's see how much it charges after an hour.
Right now its LED Notification light is blinking randomly, and battery charging 0% symbol is showing up on start screen.
The screen wakes up and sleeps randomly. Lets see what happens.

Hi,
I have charged the phone for about an hour. Its still charging.
It now shows the recovery menu, giving me options such as
Normal Powerup
Recovery
Factory etc.
And under all the options, this is what I see-
hab check failed to boot
failed to validate boot image
Fastboot Reason: Fall-through from not-charger boot
ode
What do I do now? I tried Normal Powerup, it showed M logo and showed the above screen again.
PLEASE REPLY URGENTLY. Thanks
<<UPDATE>>
Phone is charging. About 28% battery right now and still charging normally.
Now should I try starting it? Please reply.
Yes.. Try starting it. Or else nothing can be done..

When I start it, its no longer in a boot loop.
It shows Motorola M logo for a second and automatically opens recovery mode.
there I get this message at the bottom (in pink or some color like that)
hab check failed for boot
failed to validate boot image
(in yellow/green color) Fastboot Reason: Fall-through from normal boot mode

When this issue started, I had soak test android L 5.0.2, and yes I had enabled USB Debugging from it.
But, after the issue, I flashed stock rom 4.4.4 on it. But I havent been able to access the phone normally since that. So I had it enabled in 5.0.2, but now it has 4.4.4, which I never operated.
Hope I didnt confuse.

I shut down the phone.
Connected to laptop.
Hold down the power and volume key.
Factory Reseted using recovery menu.
I had official kitkat 4.4.4 ROM in laptop.
I flashed it using command prompt.
Now im sure it has kitkat, the word "Android" at boot animation has changed, like it did on kitkat.
So I'm sure it has KitKat.
<<UPDATE>>
Phone is not stuck in boot loops anymore.
It switches off, I can stop the draining of the battery.
When I turn it on, it shows motorola M logo for 1 second.
Then it takes me automatically to recovery mode. And gives the hab error as I mentioned above.
So you do know how to flash using ADB...

Then just get on with it..
Here's a link of cm 12.1.. Download a zip and flash using ADB (as you did from Command prompt for kitkat)
