Been having some trouble with my Nexus 5's camera as of late. I've mitigated the issues as much as possible with Jinshu's camera fix and any previous crashes I've incurred in the past are now gone. But one problem still remains. Any video I record is corrupt and can't be played from any platform other than my own phone. In fact, every other video, yes 50% of the videos I record, can't even save. I get the error message "Can't play this video" and the file is gone.
What I've tried so far:
Reinstalling CM11 M9
Jinshu's Camera Fix (It certainly helped with other issues, but this one remains).
Several other Camera Apps
Different Resolution Video Recordings (I usually record at 1080P)
This is on a Sprint Nexus 5 running a clean install of Cyanogenmod 11 Snapshot M9. This is extremely frustrating because I have quite a few videos that I've taken over my summer that I'd like to put on my PC and none of them can be played by numerous players (including VLC Media Player) and editing programs (including Vegas).
Someone please help!

So, for a frame of reference, my last Android device had a screen 5", but 800x480 resolution. The Nexus 5's resolution completely blows it away.
That said, I've noticed something with regard to videos being played using the default video player (I'm not even sure if it has a name). I tried watching some videos from the Engadget App (which, to the best of my knowledge, relies on the default video player to play videos), and to my surprise one of the videos was showing up about the size of a postage stamp. A different video showed up a little larger, but neither scaled up to the full space. I opened both videos up on my old Android and they ran full screen just fine.
My current guess is that the Nexus 5 has a higher screen resolution than the video it's trying to play back and it's playing the video at a 1:1 ratio. Any ideas on what might be able to fix this, or should I sit tight and wait for an update?
Hey everyone, I have a stock Samsung S4 that I like recording concert videos on.
I had a real big issue with the audio. I might have that fixed with BootlegMic. I have also installed LgCamera in hopes of finding a fixed focus for my video. I found that this app did let me use an external mic that my stock app did not, but I cannot seem to get a decent quality video from it at all
I have tried changing video resolution, video encoder, video bitrates, and file formats. Every conceivable combination that's possible, (I realize any video res past 1920 X 1080 is not supported), but cannot get any video quality even close to the stock video app.
Is there anyone with experience with this problem that can help me get it sorted out?
Thx. Jerry.
This may be late
This may be a late reply, but just in case any one else happens upon this thread, it might be worth looking at Open Camera app. Lots of tweakable settings, fixed focus, exposure lock, external mic, etc.
BTW, I just put together a bootlegMIC and it is fantastic.
I am currently running stock unrooted ROM 32.1.A.1.185 with unlocked bootloader. The video is currently to record in Full HD at 30 fps. When I inspect the details it says 1920x1080 but the file size does not look right. A 7 second video is around 15 MB or so. When I upload the video to Facebook and YouTube it's not recognised as HD. YouTube reports the size as 360p!
Has anyone else had this issue? I have trawled around as well as I could and found nothing reported. Do I just have a faulty phone?
Thanks,
D.
Further findings:
If I upload a video by recording it through the FB app then the HD option is available when viewing. If I record the video outside FB, then share it through the FB app, the HD option is not available when viewing! Go figure...
thats very odd and I dont know any solution aside to reflash the stock firmware of your device
I havent tried with youtube but anywhere where ive uploaded a video recorded from my phone it shows as 1080p
Very strange indeed. It seems to be weirdly network connection dependent. If I watch the same YouTube video on my desktop, on wired network, the 1080p option is available. If I watch it on the same network, but WiFi, it's only showing 480p!
Very odd im not sure what could be causing this but i know of some similar odd issues where youtube wouldent load on wifi for me some time ago, this was with my xperia z2 and a reflash and reset of the device solved this.
Hi,
I’m experiencing difficulties sending Videos using WhatsApp on the U12+, and I’d like to ask if anyone else has had the same issue? The problems have been...
1) WhatsApp throws up an error message, telling me that the video cannot be sent and that I should try another file.
2) Audio within some sent videos is corrupted (loud screeching/crackling noises).
If my mind serves be correctly, the problem seems to happen mostly with videos where I have zoomed in at some point. However, I because 95% of affected videos never sent in the first place - I can’t check back through my history to be sure that I’m right about that.
I found a German forum where somebody asked the same question, but no clear answer was found (although there was a suspicion that it had something to do with the audio recording mode). Additionally, the Play Store only has only one app review from a U12 user and he/she also refers to problems sending video.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Craig.
Got the same type of issue with Facebook Messenger, where the app was complaining about this "mp4 video format" not supported.
I recorded it with HTC camera app in 1080p 60fps.
No issue anymore if recorded in 1080p 30fps. Have a try...

I ran across something interesting yesterday when I was researching YouTube compatibility with the U12+'s videos.
What is your audio set to, 3D or High Res? High Res results in the video being saved as an .mkv, which isn't widely supported. 3D results in a fileformat that I'm unsure of, but it's apparently common enough to upload.

"Default" mode, so 3D.

Crap, sorry. I thought it was worth a shot.
Ni,
I had the same problem but unfortunately those times that happened to me I was not able to give an explanation ... I also assumed that it was a problem of use zoom but in the last wrong posting I had a video without apperenti problems of 42 seconds converted in 11MB he didn't want to go. So today I tried all the combinations of options that I found in the camera and the only one that gave me an error in sending was when I selected sonic zoom audio.
The real problem is that I think that in some way changing from the front camera to the normal one somehow changes the option, or during some updates.
So my advice is to check before registering if this mode is active.
For example in the last test I've recorded with the normal camera with high resolution audio then set to 3d audio. Now in the front camera I find high resolution audio but in the front I never touched options and I'm sure that before the beginning of my tests it was on 3D audio.
Hi, I have tried 2 different CR Android 11. and video recorder doesn't work properly.
For example, in Gcam I can save videos but there's no sound at all. (I have tried NG, and 3 more versions all the same issue)
In Anx, it records the video, but when I go to gallery the video length says 14 hrs and it doesn't even play the video.
Is there any app that records video properly without bugging so much?, to me video recording is essential on my phone. I'm seriously considering going back to MIUI because I see that all CR have the same issue.

Just happened the same thing to me in Lineage OS 17.1.
I wonder if it is related to some libs missing or being different in some Roms. I couldn't make video recording work right with any camera app.
At the moment I went back to MIUI Global Rom until I find if it is rom related, if it is any issue with some library or what else could I do to choose an appropriate rom. Because it is very tired to begin rom switching only to discover again that video recording doesn't work and I have to reflash and reinstall apps again.
Edit; I forgot to ask if you were able to solve your issue
