I recently updated to 4.4 Kitkat on my Acer tablet. I've been wanting to root my tablet for a long time but never found a tutorial. Well, just as my luck would have it, after I update to 4.4 I find this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240029
I read a reply in that thread stating that the Acer Toolkit doesn't work with 4.4 because Acer patched it or something. So I was wondering if there is any way I can downgrade my tablet or even root 4.4?

HI
You can't downgrade, since the update also bring an new bootloader, so flashing an system.img of your older Ro (JB4.2) wont work.
Also since your bootloader is LOCKED, there's nothing you can do right now , sorry.
With an MTK UNlocked bootloader, that would be possible...

Still not possible?
Hi,
I just found this thread whilst searching for instructions on rooting my A1-810 and I was wondering is it still not possible if the kitkat update has been applied?
I just flashed my A1-810 from JB (4.2 I believe) to the latest KitKat version available on Acer's support website (Acer.AV0K0.A1-810.RV0BRC05.PA.CA, just released on 11/06/14) and now my unit is stuck in a boot loop.
I've tried wiping cache/factory reset, and reflashing the same update to no avail. Downgrading to any previous version is not possible (due to bootloader update from KitKat update I presume) and all I get is a assert failed: getprop("ro.product.name") == "a1-810_pa_ca" error when trying to do so).
I hadn't realized just how recent this update was (seeing as they just posted it last week) and am assuming it is due to an issue with the update itself (and Acer's shotty programming).
Anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to fix this issue? Sad that a year old tablet is now a paper weight due to a SOFTWARE UPDATE FROM THE MANUFACTURER.
Update: Fixed it!!
After speaking with Acer support, trying to re-flash their image multiple times, and having them tell me that my year old tablet (with warranty ending this past July) would cost $110 to fix (due to THEIR software update), and after being advised NOT TO by their support team, I decided to try and flash the unit myself with a different bootloader.
I basically followed the guide at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...3&postcount=53
and downloaded the A1-810 files and Drivers package from there as well.
Then my unit managed to get past the reboot loop and boot into KK successfully!
CWM didn`t actually install, but there is a note at the bottom of the link regarding that, but I`m not going to bother for now as I am more than happy to have a working tablet again!
Hope this helps anyone else!

The device I'm talking about: Transformer ww 8.4.4.11
Bought the device with HC3.1 v. 8.4.4.11 ww
I've rooted the device, without problems.
Wanted to update OTA to 3.2 ww.
Unrooted the device. Checked with rootchecker, so it is unrooted, no superuser, no busybox on it. Now it has again HC 3.1 v. 8.4.4.11. ww
Since that, my ota doesn't work.
Question: Is there anyone who managed to update his device (OTA to 3.2 ww) after a rooting unrooting procedure?
If yes, please, please tell me how.
Thank you.
Well... it seems that no one managed to get the ota...
In this case I'm the only one who received it. Cos I did receive it.
i'm not shure if i understand your last post. Did you get the ota? cause i unroot my device today to 8.4.4.11 (HC 3.1) I can update is manual to 8.6.5.7 but i unroot it specialy to 8.4.4.11 to check if i will get again ota.
So, did you get it and had to wait much time or how i should understand your post ^^
Don't even need to unroot if you upgrade from 3.1 to 3.2 using firmware for asus site.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1222065
@gpmg762
I mean't OTA. I wanted to try, if i will get OTA updtes after flash a stock rom. In the post you show they talk about flashing update manual. I know about this and how to do it. So i will wait a few days and see if my TF will tell me something about updates.

I have. Assuming you have unrooted properly all you need to do now is re-flash an official update from the Asus site. If that doesn't work you haven't unrooted properly and you'll need to NVflash back to stock and re-flash another Asus download. Should be solved after this and allow fota updates to be downloaded normally and installed.
i have unrooted my TF like in this thread yesterday.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154947&highlight=unroot
i took the original asus firmware 8.4.4.11. I could take the new one 8.6.5.7 but i specially took the older one to see if there will be an ota update. i have no message till now that there is an update for my device.
Does anybody know how long it could take? now there are 30h gone since unroot and flash an original asus FW. If i try manualy to search for an update my TF says there isn't one for my device now.
is there a difference if i take a WW Firmware or a DE? Don't know if there will be problems with the OTA updates if i take the WW Firmware. I'm from Germany, so i took the DE Firmaware.
EDIT: I forgot to say. I have the stock recovery and no Superuser app. And the flashing was without any problems.
Solved
I get the OTA update today. The only thing you have to do after unroot properly and flashing a stock rom is to wait some days.
Hi 2days ago I tried to root my device by looking at the info from the website
http://eeepadhacks.net/transformer-hacks/how-to-root-eeepad-transformer-honeycomb-3-2/
They give you a zip with firmware and adb to make it easier to root
I did the steps there and some things did not work
Right now I have an old firmware and it won't let me update to the regular real firmware
It keeps on saying I'm on the latest firmware
I tried nachoroot which wouldnt show I'd of 0 after 5 times trying the process from the begining
I tried unrooting by suggestions from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093403
But it didn't help I also wiped all the data and it didn't help
Firmware htk75.us_epad-8.6.5.21
Kernel 2.6.36.3-00001g9a21fc1 android#1
Android version is 3.2.1
Any help is very much appreciated I understand a new android version should be available soon I hope this will still let me upgrade android although I can't seem to update firmware
Isn't 8.6.5.21 the latest firmware?
Its possible I am just confused for some reason I thought that there is a 9. Something firmware when I just got the device I updated the firmware I thought I got it to a 9
something. wow this is emberrassing
So what I have is definitely the new firmware? Hmm then why can't I root?
my SN begins with BC and ends with 89
Is it rootable? I only saw ppl talking about other serial numbers like B80 etc...
Your tablet should be rootable but not with the method you linked above.
Try NachoRoot again or ViperMod which use NachoRoot but it does all the steps for you.
Another option is down grade to 8.6.6.19 and use RazorClaw.
thank you very much I will try with vipermod have a nice day

For the ASUS MeMoPad 8 (K015) ME581CL I was able to root it successfully on the 4.4.2-based firmware by using the RootZenPhone 1.4.6.8r
[23pin.logdown. com/posts/230216-root-rootzenfone-14r
I had a pretty sweet rooted 4.4.2 setup on the ME581CL (K015) until I mistakenly decided to try for Lollipop
After updating to the latest firmware (Lollipop 5.0.1) I lost root, subsequent tries to root the device did not work, so I hope that someone can help
develop another method., ASUS link here: asus.com/Tablets/ASUS_MeMO_Pad_8_ME581CL/HelpDesk_Download
Note: I actually got stuck in the welcome/setup screen and had to boot into recovery and use "fastboot -w" to wipe data cache and partition
so that it wasn't bricked.

Note: there is some progress in getting downgrade working here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/root-downgrade-asus-me581cl-t3075678
I have not tested this method however. I am somewhat content with stock 5.0.1 for now and a decent non-root firewall
to block the ASUS crapware that ships with the factory Android, though I'd much prefer to have downgraded and had my root back on 4.4.2

Can you explain what you mean about this/how you accomplished it?
I've got the ME581CL with the 5.0 OS from ASUS. Sure like to be able to get rid of some of the junk they've placed on this tablet.

It doesn't let you get rid of everything, but you can install "No Root Firewall" and block everything by default - it uses a loopback device to bind all your traffic through it so you don't need root to block/allow traffic from apps.
To update to 5.0.1 I copied the firmware here: https://www.asus.com/Tablets/ASUS_MeMO_Pad_8_ME581CL/HelpDesk_Download/ into the root directory of the tablet and restarted it, that picked it up and applied it.

For root access have a look there.
Better late than never
Hey Guys -
I've looked all through the forums for an answer, but couldn't find a concrete one nor one I was 100% would work for my specific device so decided to post the 3 questions I have...
I've got a Shield Tablet (Wi-Fi USA) which I bought pretty much on day one. Once Lollipop came out, I upgraded to it and in turn re-rooted it afterwards. About a week ago, i got the notification for the 5.0.1 OTA upgrade. I tried applying it by downloading the update then restarting when prompted, but when it came back up it was still at 5.0.0. I'm positive this is due to it being rooted and would still want (need) for it to be after the 5.0.1 upgrade so...
1. What's the best / safest way to apply 5.0.1 (from 5.0.0) to my tablet currently?
2. Will OTA not work if rooted which is why there are so many zip file links in the forums? If not, which update file do I need for USA WiFi only?
3. Once upgraded, what's the best / safest method for re-rooting again? I saw a few posts for how the bootloader needed to be unlocked. Don't know if that's still the latest info. Long way from Towel, huh?
I'm not asking anyone to spell it all out for me, but if you know what to do if you could send me links or whatever to the correct steps / files, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks guys!
I had Nougat(L19C636B360) when I bought my phone. The box had model "AL-10" written on it although the firmware was of L-19. Anyways, an OTA update arrived, I clicked on update and it got bricked. I had never unlocked the bootloader, rooted or anything. After a lot of trial and error, I successfully got my phone working by flashing MM 6.0 - FRD-L19C900B131 through 'dload' method. But this firmware is buggy as hell. My phone's laggy, crashes constantly, the photos are worse etc.
A found a couple of stock firmware packages(L19C636B360) on the forum but they come with two separate files(update.zip and updata_data_full_hw_specxx.zip) and my phone doesn't support them(Installation fail). Also they are of only 2-2.5GB, whereas the one I successfully flashed is 3.3GB
Note : I have unlocked the bootloader now
And you are developer?
Wrong forum to post buddy.
