I just found some new videos of the unreleased Ugoos UT3 RK3288. The new 4k Android TV box with 4k input and output, via 2 HDMi connectors.
1st video is a bit boring, they go over the ports on the board. Can be found here. Part 2 seems much more interesting, unless of course you're into ports and connectors I'm waiting for the links to the other parts to be posted on CAN here.
Parts they list are
Ugoos UT3 Hands on review video part 1: Examination of ports & board
Ugoos UT3 Hands on review video part 2: Menus, Online TV, Settings & Apps
Ugoos UT3 Hands on review video part 3: HD Video Test
Ugoos UT3 Hands on review video part 4: HDMi input test (HDMi video capture)
Ugoos UT3 Review Video Antutu Benchmark Test Part 5
Ugoos UT3 Review Video Gaming Test Part 6
http://chinaandroidnews.com/ugoos-ut3-review-video/
Looks like part 1 and 2 links are active right now.

I just checked and all parts of the videos are now up.
Antutu is 38K on part 6 of the vid. Not bad for preview firmware they said.
Anyone else waiting to get one of these?

Seems these are now shipping out and in stock.
Very tempted. My UT1 is still a great box though and does well for me. However, have you noticed how cheap 4K TVs are now?
I am in the market for media player. Just bought the wd tv live streaming media player . Now thinking shoud l I return it and buy the ugoos ut3 ? Its double the price but is future ready. However what worries me is the quality. heard too many heating complaints on similar devices, warranty support is another big question as well. Some site says hdmi 2.0 some say 1.4 - lot of confusion on the specs as well.
Really confused here.
UT3
Hi... New to the forum, but was searching for information on the Ugoos UT3 and ran across this thread. I just ordered a UT3 with 2GB ram and 16GB rom directly from the manufacturer's website. Prices I've seen are very high everywhere else, but I was quoted $99 for the unit with free standard shipping, but opted for DHL 3 day service. That was an additional $36 so the entire package with 3 day shipping to the US cost me $136. I'm anxiously awaiting it's arrival!
I'll post as soon as it gets here. I've tried the Raspberry Pi...( good for my slow internet) and have tried an android CS918 that I was very disappointed with and am returning. So far the best that I've had and am currently using is the Amazon Fire. It does great for me, but I'm really excited to see what the UT3 will do!
By the way... I forgot to add that the way I was able to order this so easily was that late at night when I was on their website I opened a chat window with one of the sales managers named Nancy and she was able to generate a Pay Pal invoice directly to me. It made it quite simple to complete the order. She spent a good 30 minutes with me talking about the unit. It does come with XBMC pre-installed and next week the newer version with 4GB of ram and 32GB of rom will be available for purchase. I didn't bother to ask the price since the 16GB rom version seemed more than I would ever need. She was quite pleasant and very helpful and now that I have her direct email address any further orders will be quite simple. If I had the extra cash I would have ordered several of them and had them shipped free and just waited on them. Reselling for $150 or more would have been quite easy with a 50% profit and still at less money than anyone else is selling them for. The cheapest I found on eBay was $187 and that was still with overseas slow shipping. $136 with 3 day shipping is a bargain!...(provided the box is as good as advertised).... I'd love to find a way to be a US distributor for these.....they're looking for one.
PS..... Yes.... The unit has 2HDMI ports... an input and an output.....and the output is definitely HDMI 2.0
PPS.... I am in no way affiliated with this company....(although I'd like to be!)
Whats your thoughts on the ugoos ut3 . Hows it working for you ?
I'll have to report back tomorrow or later today.... The unit just arrived via DHL less than an hour ago! I just unpacked it and am looking it over now. I'll start playing in just a bit. I received the 2gb ram and 16gb rom version although as of this week the newer version is out with twice the memory and ram. I also understand that the processor is now clocked at 2.0 ghtz. I do not know what mine is yet.... at the least it's 1.8 but I'm hoping it has the 2.0 overclock with heatsink already done.

Great looking forward to your reviews on the thing...
Interested in the following :-
Does it have hdmi 2.0 ?
Wifi AC speeds
Ethernet speeds
dts and dd decoding
4k and 1080p mkv playback
netflix, amazon prime video playback
Temerpature of the unit during playback.
Hi,
In my brief testing with this unit so far this is what I have found.....
It is fast! The unit has no lag whatsoever and streaming movies through XBMC is flawless....no jerky motion or skips noticed with other units I've tried.
Yes.... It is HDMI 2
I cannot test the internet speed since my connection speed here is a paltry 3.0mbps, but the specs show it to be outstanding and I have no reason to doubt it....everything else is as the company has stated.
It has 3 UBS 2 ports and an OTG port as well. I would suggest that anyone who gets one of these also get a wireless keyboard or configure the blue tooth to use their phone or other device to control it....their remote is IR and the led is mounted low in the window of the unit...( I can change this easily), but right now I have to point the remote directly at the unit to have it function....with my usb keyboard I do not.
Video out is 4k x 2k... 3840 x 2160... There is a built in monitor for seeing data usage and speeds.... I'm seeing upwards of 60fps in much of my playback. I have not tried any MKV files yet, but the specs do not list that as a supported file structure so I can't give an honest answer on that yet. ( I will find out tonight though when I write the CEO of Ugoos.)
Netflix is a known problem and the company is working on it now. The program works, but seems to lack the buffer ability to make it work correctly. When I tried it the film tried to play immediately and did for a few moments, but then stalled because my download speeds are too slow.... This is something that I think they can deal with pretty easily once they incorporate a buffering system into the program.
The wifi range is outstanding and if you need more another antenna with higher gain can easily be installed....or an extension cable can also be used.
All in all I'd say the unit is not ready as a "plug and play" unit simply for the netflix problem, but I'm sure that's firmware and will be addressed quickly if they want to be able to sell these!
I'm quite impressed with it.....as to heat....it gets warm to the touch after running for hours, but not so much as to even consider it a problem....it's just a little warm....not hot.
I think the unit is a keeper....they layout is great and it has many more configuration settings that you can make than most other units....it seems to be very flexible in what you can do with it and I'm sure the netflix problem will not be there long.
I've been in touch with the CEO of the mother company overseas. He's quite a nice fellow....especially to take the time to communicate with me being the CEO of a company that large and knowing that I'm just an end user.
I plan on writing him this evening and asking about the Netflix problem and I'll also ask about MKV support.
For a new unit....it's capabilities far surpass it's shortcomings right now and none of this is hardware related. I believe a simple firmware update will alleviate the existing problems.
Did I say this unit is fast???? Good looking too with more inputs and outputs than any other unit I've seen. Incredible video out! I'm impressed and even though there are a couple of glitches, the OS and layout is clean, neat and easy to follow. I think this unit is going to be a real winner.
Here's your ethernet and wifi speed..
"Gigabit WiFi 802.11 ac
The biggest plus to the UT3 is its external WiFi antenna. This allows for a maximum Internet connection. The WiFi chip supports WiFi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac. The N-band, the 5 GHz band, which is very fast and even 150Mbit / s can get. The wifi ac band in 2015 will apply by default. Theoretically, this wifi ac band 1.3 Gigabit per second must be able to retrieve. However, we expect the wifi ac band actually about 4 to 5 hundred Mbit / s will get. The Wifi AC band will only go wifi signal over the 5Ghz. The 5Ghz wifi signal is much faster, but unfortunately less rich width as the 2.4 ghz signaal. Ok is to connect via an internet cable, UT3 will always be slightly more stable than WiFi.
Gigabit Ethernet
The Ethernet port on this androidbox can reach speeds up to 1 gigabit per second pick (1,000,000,000 bits per second). Then you must get everything with rocket speed inside. 4K UHD"
It has been about an hour since I posted this and I just emailed the CEO of Ugoos to ask him about the Netflix fix, the Amaxon Prime...( which I have not had time to check), the DTS and the playing of MKV files.
Hopefully he will direct the message to his technical team and I will have answers soon. As soon as I have an answer I will repost.

Where did you find it at $99 ? Can't seem to find it for less than ~$150.
Please let us know more findings and your feedback.
a) Does it support airplay. With apps like airtight etc.
b) Can i play a video on iphone youtube and send it over to youtube app in ugoos ut3
c) does it play mkv 1080p files? files which are size of 15gb etc.
d) How is the hdmi in working?
e) what is screencast which is shown in the box?
f) i see a rooted firmware in the ugoos ut3 website. This is the latest one. Does it resolve netflix issues? how does this rooted firmware help?
appreciate any help on this regard. i really want to write a big review if i had the box. will order one if everything is working fine and above all work.

I went directly to the overseas Ugoos website and started a late night chat with one of the sales reps. Her name is Nancy and her email address is [email protected]
I was originally talking with her about trying to become a US sales rep for the product and discovered that there is already one US distributor, but he should sell the units for the same price. They stipulate that the units cannot be resold for less than $149, but cost on them is $99 for 1-20 pieces and shipping would have been much less expensive had I not chosen 3 day DHL. I could have paid $10 or less for standard epackage delivery. Tell her you'd like an evaluation unit to try out.
Me too am interested but not finding it at the price you mendtioned. Can you also see post #12. I am also interested in the answers...
buying from USA vendor droid fusion for $140. so that i can have warranty and return it if it does not work.
Bought it from Dealsprime for $124 (after 3% discount).
Hello. Any further thoughts on this?
Hello.
I'm looking at this too. I can't find any info on what the input HDMI allows the unit to do - I'm hoping it allows pass through (similar to xboxone), so I can watch TV and just call android as an overlay whenever I want to check or ask anything.
Have you got any of the google apps working (e.g. google now)?
TIA.

Hi Warren,
I have seen a demo somewhere. The HDMI input works like the Xboxone or the Google TV. So whatever is in the input will be shown.
But there is one thing to consider. HDMI IN is an APP inside the unit. Once you launch the app it displays whatever is in the input. Once you exit the APP you will go back. There will be no overlay as such. Even i wish to have an overlay to browse apps when TV is playing in background.
In SHORT, Lauch the app to see HDMI IN content, Exit the app to go out.
I use an universal remote. It would be interesting to see a single shortcut IR command which takes me to HDMI IN instead of launching the APP by navigating and selecting it.

Sorry I can't answer many of the questions asked since I have not had time to really get into the unit yet, but the last time I looked for firmware there was only one file from about a month ago and it does not correct the Netflix problem. I have written Ugoos...directly to the CEO who usually answers quickly, but asked him if he would pass it along to the techs.... I have not received a response yet. Sorry.....I've been extremely busy working with 4 Fire TV units and have not really addressed the Ugoos yet. I'll be into it next week though and hopefully will have some answers. The HDMI passthrough does have a limitation. It has HDMI 2.0 for output, but I believe the input is not. I'm really interested into getting into this, but the FTV units have had me working all day on them for several days now. I should finish up shortly though and redirect back to the Ugoos.
UPDATE: I just went to the Ugoos site and you are correct... There is a new firmware that wasn't there several days ago.....and it's quite a bit larger than the original firmware. I'll be out tomorrow, but will install it Sunday and see if it addresses the Netflix problem or if I notice any obvious changes. Thanks for posting about it!

New Update....... Although there is a new firmware listed as "rooted" on the Ugoos website it was posted there in error. Do NOT flash this firmware to your unit! I just got done with a chat with Nancy, the #1 sales rep for the company and she spoke with one of the techs since I was having difficulty in having my computer recognize the device. I didn't realize that you needed an OTG USB cable to have the unit show up when connected to the computer. In any case he informed her that she uploaded the incorrect firmware to the site. There is a new one coming out in just a couple of days.....wait for it....and yes, it does correct the NetFlix issue. We should see it sometime this week.

I am in the market to buy a new tablet but I have been looking between archos and a viewsonic. I want to stick with a 10 inch screen but I would like to get the most bang for my buck right now my spending limit about 400 dollars.
I am aware that the g tablet has a nvidia dual core processor which is fairly appealing. However I wanted to get some input from people that have had hands on experience with those tablets. Are there any new tablets I should hold out for or what would you people suggest thank you for your help.

I own both and will probably sell one of them. I'm still deciding, but leaning in favor of the Gtablet. I plan to post a full comparison on my blog (http://www.blendblog.net) where I reviewed the Archos 101 already.
A quick summary though is as follows:
GTablet performs much better. I've not had to worry about memory whereas on the Archos I've often had to manually kill apps to get the device to stay responsive.
The Gtablet is built better. The screen is slightly better, viewing angles are bad on both but the Archos screen feels like you are tapping on cheap plastic wheras the Gtablet feels like solid glass. The tradeoff is that the Gtablet is MUCH heavier, and bigger.
Both of them have very good speakers.
The fiddle factor with the Gtablet is much higher, but if you are here you probably know that. You must root and rom the device, although that is not a tough thing to do. However, I have spent countless hours with mine trying to get it to wake from sleep correctly, an issue many have. I finally figured out a workaround that fixes the issue at the expense of battery life. It seems that some units just have issues waking from sleep, I may still exchange mine because of this.
Build consistency seems to be a bit sketchy on both fronts. The aforementioned sleep issue has bitten me on the GTablet and my Archos has been RMA'd (their support was excellent though) due to a huge stuck blue pixel in the display that was horrible looking.
Archos has one big leg up on the Gtablet and that's video support. It will play anything I throw at it (I did have to buy a $15 AC3/MPEG2 codec package though). The stock video player is much sleeker as well integrating movie descriptions etc. With the Gtablet you are left with the usual hodgepodge of Android video players that don't work with everything etc.
Google was somewhat right in saying Android wasn't ready for "primetime" but I have to say, I find these devices very fun to play with and use on a day to day basis.
I am definitely leaning towards keeping the Gtablet and selling the Archos when I get it back from RMA. The speed advantage of Gtablet is noticeable and with this excellent hacking community in place I feel like there is a much better chance of it being relevant (Honeycomb?) going forward than with the Archos.
I hope this helps!
Sean
Grabbing VitalPlayer pretty much cleared up the problem of the G-Tab not supporting MPEG-2 or AC3, and it's free. YMMV.
VitalPlayer on Appbrain
Where are the codecs for g tablet to match Archos ???
This lack is confusing given the fact that we know tetra 2 is superior. It would seem that xoom will support many popular video codecs when it comes out in Feb!
Archos vs
I own both tablets, and can say without reservation that the G tablet is superior in many ways. It is a much more solid build ( although about 8 oz heavier)
The G tablet is much faster with the Custom Roms. I have had a number of Archos devices, and have been pleased with them, but after owning the G tablet, with its open nature and ability to modify, I will never opt for such a closed off device like the Archos again. Don't get me wrong- it is a good device, but it lacks the potential of the G tablet.
I have the gtablet running Vegan 5
I have no problems playing videos at all using vplayer, rock player and even es explorer has a pretty good player. I played with 101 archos not bad but looks cheap next to the g tab, also as a long time fan of NVIDIA I knew it was going to fast!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I haven't used the Archos, but I was in your exact position a little over a month ago, ultimately I choose to check out the G-Tab because I could pick one up locally and return it in 30 days if I didn't like it. I have to say that at first I wasn't pleased with it overall, but that changed as soon as I started flashing some of the amazing ROMs available here on XDA. I'm not new to flashing my devices, but even if this had been a first time experience for me I doubt I'd have had any problems. Follow steps carefully and you can't go wrong, if you have a question it's most likely already been asked by someone before you, so just search the forums and you'll find the answer quick enough. Long story short the G-Tab would be a real dog of a product if it weren't for this amazing community of developers, but because of them I think it's got a future, a fairly bright one at that. I love my G-Tab more and more everyday, and as of now I do not regret purchasing it.

Mine's running the same configuration. Do you have anything with audio encoded in AC-3 Dolby Digital? I ripped all my DVD's to my media server using h.264 for video but leaving the original surround sound audio in place. On the Archos I could play those files with the $15 MPEG2/AC-3 plug-in. I have not been able to find a video player yet that does this for my Gtablet (tried ES and Rock amongst others) but I haven't tried the VitalPlayer that theindependent recommended. I'll post back when I get a chance to try that player, it may solve this issue somewhat.
Sean
Same here... Once I did a little more research I found that the Archos 101 had the exact same viewing angle issues with a crappier plastic feeling screen. When you couple that with 256 meg ram and Single Core design it was a simple decision for me.. I figured if I couldnt have an iPAD equivilant screen then I would go with what is future proof. The only real option is the 7inch which every states viewing angles are good - but was still concerned with the future use of the hardware and resale value (at that time). Dual core Tegra's in about 6 - 12 months will hold their value significantly higher than a 256 meg / single core device. By then I see better screens coming out and will upgrade then.
Till then... Im loving the decision - I also agree I was very upset the first few hours until I got the custom rom, kernel, launcher and other apps all up and running..

Great summary! I expect video support to get a lot better once Nvidia finally releases final drivers. Kind of have too, with all the T2's coming out soon.
In a nutshell, if higher def video is not 90% of the reason you are getting a tablet, the Gtablet is a FAR better choice than the Archos 101. Also, the Archos 101 has a few glaring problems besides a much slower chipset:
1. 230mb of device app space. Gtablet has eight times more space
2. 256mb ram (contant performance battle unless just using for video)
Have both Archos is light and thin, a little bit flimsy, but is a great pmp/ereader especially when on the road. Gtablet is a beast though runs circles around the Archos in regard to performance and flexibility. As a long time Archos supporter I think this my last device from them.
I just installed VitalPlayer from the market, thanks theindependent for the pointer.
It does play AC-3 so my ripped DVD's are fine. I have a 720p video though and it can't keep up, it stutters. The Archos 101 played it just fine.
Hopefully as rushless said, there will be updates to the driver so that hardware acceleration for hidef video can be added.
There are 2 other features the GTablet are missing that I forgot about:
1) No mini-hdmi output port, instead it has a docking station port. I would get more use out of mini-hdmi although the UI on the Archos is very bad when plugged into a monitor as I menitioned in the review on my blog.
2) The kickstand, while somewhat cheesy, is a nice feature on the Archos device.
One plus for the Gtablet (for me at least) is it uses the more standard mini-usb type plug instead of the micro usb plug of the archos. Most of my other devices are miniusb so I prefer this.
I think to sum things up I'd say that if you want a video player and e-reader that can do a nice amount of computer like things I'd go Archos. If you want a computer that is an ok e-reader (just a bit heavier) and can do some video go Gtablet!
Sean
I was seriously considering the 101 until I found this device. I think so far (only 1 day) it is a win.
As far as kick stand I am using a Garmin GPS suction mount for a windscreen on the back it works well.

When I get home I'll do it. It is basically the mount on the back of the g-tab (choose a location to determine tilt) and then the ball rests on the surface of desk or you can hold it using that.
How were you able to get Vplayer to run?
I've been able to install fine but when I run it I am unable to open any videos, same from a file explorer with the open with menu. Thanks!

I have no problems playing videos at all using vplayer, rock player and even es explorer has a pretty good player. I played with 101 archos not bad but looks cheap next to the g tab, also as a long time fan of NVIDIA I knew it was going to fast!

You should also consider what you will want in the future their are many new tegra 2 powered devices coming out soon for a reason, the g tablet already has the same hardware but the developement is ahead of all other tablets on the market. I have the g tablet and wouldn't consider any other device thanks to the devs on the forum making it the best tablet available right now.

Mine looks just like that - same suction mount. Sorry I didn't upload. And I think I got the idea from that post although I probably would have tried it in looking for a stand method.
I just got my Archos 101 back from RMA.
One thing I noticed that is a big plus for the Archos, at least in my setup is that when it is powered down it "sleeps properly." After 20 hours of sitting on my desk powered down it still has 95% battery life. My GTablet on the other hand won't wake up from sleep properly. You can follow the travails I and others are having on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855821. If I leave my GTablet on for 20 hours it will be down to around 15% battery life. That's without my workaround to keep the CPU on when the screen is off that fixes the broken wake from sleep (but does slightly increase this battery drain).
Now maybe I have a defective unit, and I am contemplating returning it still. Can anyone else comment on what they see battery life wise with their GTablet when its sleeping. Preferably someone without the wake up problem my unit has. To test just charge it up, leave it "sleeping" overnight with the screen off and when you wake up the next morning report what the battery life is. The Archos only loses about 1% every 4 hours, the GTablet is losing 4% every hour!
FWIW, Archos support was awesome, I live in the US Virgin Islands and they at first tried to send it UPS which is "international" for us and a cluster to deal with. Because of this the UPS tag that was generated had it going to Pennsylvania (yes this is a common occurrence with UPS and the USVI). I called them immediately and they halted the shipment, then sent it to me USPS Express mail so I had it in 2 days! The replacement unit was in perfect shape.

I am an Android Fanboy....but the Vivotab Smart for $499 looks really nice and is full Windows 8. Is anybody else thinking about cheating on their Infinity Tabs?
It looks great, and I had the chance to try one a few weeks ago (in-store). It's a nice device, really, but the customer support on ASUS'part scares me off in buying one of their produtcs again.
(My main gripe with the 700 is the docking mechanism, and they seem to have used another type on the VivoTab. Still.. )
I like it too...
We had this discussion going before.
All the Windows tablet threads were shutdown however.
It looks nice, I initially had my hopes and dreams on it, but with ASUS reputation, I rather plonk the additional $300 and get the Surface Pro tablet.
Besides, what I read in reviews, the Intel Atom which I thought was going to be a much more improved generation made for this year, reports are that it struggles to playback Flash and other streaming video compared to the more powerful i5 core Surface Pro.

Indeed, the only technical reason I'd see for staying away as to specifications s the Atom processor used. The full Intel mobiles are so much faster! (Reportedly, most Atoms struggle at even the simplest of tasks.)
For the $$ to me the win8 tabs just aren't worth it with the ultrabooks sitting at lower prices now.
Been eyeballing the HP Envy x2 selling today for 749 usd.
I personally stay away from Intel Atom as far as possible. Furthermore, 1080p screen is the main reason I bought the tf700.
With that CPU? Hell no.

There's a science joke just waiting to be made in there somewhere...
i played for a couple of days with the Vivo, and just bought the wife a Pro and have to say everything I hated about RT and the whole setup is gone. I am not getting rid of my Infinity any time soon, but that Surface Pro is a screaming cool piece of kit.
I should have been more specific on the Thread Title. I am talking about the ME400 Smart which is full windows.
I think I might get one and test drive it. I am leaning 60-40% to get it. I am worried about the lack of apps and the speed. But the positive of the Atom processor is the battery life. I need to find somewhere with the White model locally in stock so I can return it easily if it is slow and laggy.
Putting things in perspective in terms of the the tablet you want to purchase.
If you need processing power, go with an ultrabook as several posters mention here. Prices are great, battery life is **pretty good**.
Remember, with ultrabooks, like any notebook, they require active cooling to go along with the power.
If you are looking for a alternative to an Android tablet, the Vivotab Smart is a great choice IMO.
I currently have a Galaxy Note that is running a custom ROM. It does pretty much anything I need an android device to do, even things in tablet mode through the benefit of the ROM I am using.
I was seriously considering the Note 10.1. Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 CPU is just outdated now compared to a quard core Tegra 3.
My main reasons for wanting (not needing :laugh a tablet: Do my web surfing, watch TV shows/Movies, listen to music, dabble a little in Word/Excel (nothing major), social networking and remote manage PC's on my network (Team Viewer/Real VNC).
I can do ALL of this on my Galaxy Note phone NO PROBLEM. However, I wanted a device with a bigger screen to do this, and use my phone as the tether device when necessary, and also save battery life to make that emergency call when I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere...instead of having a dead battery due to watching that extra episode of Battlestar Galactica.
I was thinking about an android tablet, but it was just too much of a direct extension of my phone. So I decided to look at Windows 8 tablets. My first choice was the Microsoft Surface RT. VERY VERY glad I did not go with this device. Fit and finish is spectacular. Hardware is debatable - personal opinions right? However, the functionality of Windows 8 RT is not much more than an Android OS, and the Google platform has MUCH more to offer than the RT platform right now. I have no patience in waiting for apps to be developed.
Surface Pro is a great option, since it is FULL Windows 8...however battery life is crap. 4-6hrs? Might as well go with an ultrabook.
With the usage that I was intending my tablet for, I needed something to last through the day. So I did not need to have a device that is eating away @ the battery life when it is doing nothing, just to power a high horsepower CPU.
That's where the ME400 comes in. Battery life? Spectacular! I listen to at least 2 hrs of music, do about 1hr of web surfing (cumulatively), watch about 1-2hrs of video, and still have AT LEAST 40% battery remaining after being on for 18hrs.
I've installed full Microsoft Office 2010, Real VNC, Team Viewer, Power ISO, some android OS related software to modify various Samsung Galaxy phones, a few gigs of music, 5-6Gbs of video and still have 11GB remaining. (waiting for my 64GB Micro SDXC!)
I can view full flash sites which most android tablets cannot, unless you stick with GB or ICS. (although flash is being phased out to HTML5).
And again, file management, network management is seamless as it is the familiar Microsoft OS interface.
The ME400 to me is a great compromise between processing power, battery life, and most of all price. @ $499 CDN, hard to get that much functionality for that price. I can do everything on my ME400 on my Android devices, and I can do almost everything on my Android devices, on my ME400. My only wish is to get Bluestacks working on the Clover Trail CPU so I can play some of my Android games on my ME400...but I don't think it will have the CPU/Graphics processing power to do it.
There's my 2 cents.
I picked one up yesterday. So far the updating is a problem. Asus live update cannot connect to server and Windows update wouldn't download at first but over night it did. I think the tablet won't do a Windows update unless in standby with no other user actions. Probably due to the slower processor Windows update waits till the user isn't playing. But as far as the Asus live update not connecting at all, that may make the device a deal breaker for me.
Yes Asus screwed up the infinity Rom but the community here fixed that. If Asus update won't work out of the box with this I don't want it since we all know how bad Asus customer support is.

The Live Update not working is a known issue. Reading old posts, apparently the Live Update did some bios updates that royally messed up the tablet. Perhaps Asus has taken the whole system offline until they get their drivers and updates in order.
My Windows updates were a little slow at first too. But eventually got through them as well.

After my response to Dominic's comment about the 24-48hrs, there was no response. I waited 5min I think, typed my thanks anyway message, then ASUS side dropped the connection. Go figure. <sigh>

What sort of Google integration are you looking for? My emails are synced in with the stock mail app...although it is mediocre. Contacts are all loaded in People...
Google Talk, you can just install the app, albeit doesn't run in the Modern UI screen...I just have it synced with IM+ for that. Again, not the best choice, but will do the job for now.

What did you decide? I've been using a Smart for a month or so now, and haven't had any lag issues. Storage can be a bit limited, I've installed Office 2010 Pro and then upgraded (for free) to 2013 (note: this upgrade process didn't uninstall 2010, so I now have both versions), dumped on 20 or so CDs, half a dozen movies and around a dozen apps and I only have 21gig left to play with.
Issues:
1) the screen is the worst for finger prints I've ever used - other than that viewing is ok
2) the windows button seems really unresponsive (on this particular model) - so I end up swiping in from the right and hitting the button from there
3) installing updated and upgrading Office seemed to take longer than I would have expected
4) finding the keyboard and cover (transleeve) isn't easy, I'm still using a cheap cover off eBay. If you have the option I'd buy with the kb and cover if I could start over again...
5) it doesn't come with the Micro USB to USB converter or the Micro HDMI to 9 pin (the Acer w510 has both in the box) - so a purchase off eBay is needed (and associated wait while shipped from China if you want a cheap one)
other that that, it's been all good. really like this little machine, does all I need it to!

ok, one more observation (which is both a pro and a con). There is only 1 micro USB which is also used for charging. Having the tablet use a micro USB for charging is a plus in that I can use my phone chargers (including existing car chargers etc) interchangibly. However, I didn't charge the tablet last night (plug was off at the wall) and it was dead this morning. I'm working from home, and can't connect my mouse at the same time as charging the device - which is a bit painful. My keyboard is full Bluetooth, so no issues there - but the mouse uses a USB dongle (which is std for most mouse at the moment) - I'll need to invest in a full Bluetooth mouse as well...
not a biggie, but something to consider for those looking to make a purchase (for example the Acer W510 has a separate charging point, so this wouldn't be an issue. but on the other side of the coin the micro usb car chargers etc wouldn't work.....)
Also it charges slower with the the standard micro USB.
The only thing that Win 8/VivoSmart added for me was the ability to use a SmartCard reader to authenticate in a web browser. But there was too many shortfalls in apps as a tablet interface. I would still want/need a tablet. Now If I didn't already have a full size ultra book then I would consider the VivoSmart due to price and portability. The goal of carry one device still eludes......

Hey wpbear - not sure I understand your post ? The Smart is a tablet - doesn't come with a docking station - the keyboard (most often purchased seperatly) is more like the Surface, than a ultrabook...
I guess the app thing isn't really an issue for me. As the Smart is running full Windows (rather than RT) I'm not really using many apps at all. I tend to use full Office and Firefox.. Covers most of my needs.
On the eve of getting my Padfone Infinity I thought I would start a thread so that users can chat about their experiences with the device and so forth.
So, who else is getting one?
UPDATE: Have the Padfone now. First impressions VERY favourable.
USB OTG testing notes:
USB drives working, including NTFS (first phone besides the Huawei D1 Quad XL to have that). PS3 AND Xbox controllers working out of the box. USB keyboards and mice working - best implementation yet on an Android phone with options for mouse pointer speed and ability to map the mouse buttons to a few different options. USB audio broken, which for me is incredibly disappointing. There is somewhat of a workaround in that USB audio does work with the app USB Audio Recorder Pro, but it is fairly horrible to use as a music player since its real purpose is to allow recording with a microphone.
Oh, and got a second (small) firmware update today...

I'm planning to when the price is lower. Btw, since I saw that you get a lot of thanks here, are you a developer yourself? have you ever port ROM before?
Seeing that previous PF didnt get much activity in the development area, PF2 got better with Paul from Modaco, but I think that's about it, no CM or whatsoever. I would love if some developer had this on their hand and the development starting to progress

any differences in signal? since I dont have PF2. but PF1 suffer from a loss of signal when you dock it and close, I figured since this was open, it would not interfere with the signal much. any noticable lag when you use tha tablet? can you benchmark using geekbench or whatsoever to test the gpu using the tablet full HD resolution. Got the S4, One *should* be with me later today (it is at the Fedex centre a few minutes from my home).
Vs the S4 it is a much larger and heavier slab, but obviously the fit and finish and materials scream quality in comparison.
S4 WiFi reception better than the Infinity, which I'm guessing suffers a little attenuation due to the materials in use.

For GPS installed IGO Primo. A lot better than Garmin.
Really? much larger and heavier? spec wise the dimension is not that different IMO, but yeah, holding it and calculating it from the spec can sometimes be different. lots of wifi reception issues with older padfone also, how bout the gsm/3g signal fare with s4?

Network reception for the S4 seems fine, or at least is equivalent to basically every other handset I've had in the past year or so in the same locations. Ditto the Infinity when not in the pad, reception seems fine, only the WiFi seems to be a bit attenuated by the aluminium body.
...and yes, much larger and heavier. As you say, the impression one has with the device in hand can sometimes bely the measured dimensions. In this case it is very noticeable, but not really in a bad way for the Infinity, it just feels rock solid. Got my One yesterday also. I would say by analogy the One is like a European sports car, and the Infinity a European business car - both attractive and well built with the latter featuring squarer lines and a more understated elegance.
Personally which one is your favorite
and when you said that the reception of infinity when not in the pad seems fine, is that mean there's a reception suffer when in the pad? since it was held tight inside the pad, even iphone 4 suffer from the death grip. just curious ^^

Honestly no idea which is my favourite at this point, from the point of view of internals they are all essentially identical, and that aside they all have pros and cons that balance relatively closely.
In relation to reception and the Infinity:
Cellular network connectivity is fine in the phone, reported signal strength is basically the same as other phones in the same locations. When it is docked in the pad there is a bit of signal attenuation, enough so that in marginal 4G coverage for example it will drop back to 3G when docked (but not when not docked).
WiFi signal strength is not as good as other phones I have at present, however WiFi reception seems unchanged by whether the phone is docked or not.
Last night I purchased an HP 7 1800 tablet however at midnight this new tablet showed up for the same price. A Pioneer R1 7" tablet, has better specs and a dual-core processor for the same price. It also features Jelly Bean 4.2 instead of 4.1. Also features a mini-HDMI port which is a plus. I decided to cancel the HP order and get this one instead.

Looks decent and there's a good array of color choices too. I think it's a better choice than the HP for the same price.
EDIT: As of 12PM PST, it is still listed at $89.99. Not sold out yet, all colors available.
Updated it with a link from the Pioneer website instead of a direct Wal Mart link.
Thanks

No problem, it seems like a better deal than the HP so I wanted to let people know about it that may have wanted to buy a budget tablet.
Not a fan of colors but it leaves some good choices for those who don't want to be bland or plain black/white.
Anyone have any info on this platform, modding, rooting, etc?
Anyone have any info on this tablet?
Can't seem to find any software or much hardware info anywhere. If anyone has one it would be nice to shed some light on this thing.
Since nobody knows anything about this, I'll post a review with pictures when I pick it up on Monday.
Hoping I can root this and put a custom rom on it. KitKat would be awesome.

Right off the bat I am disappointed to say that there are marks and scratches on the screen right out of the box. The center is very washed out as well and super grainy. I honestly don't know how this would've gotten past quality control.
This is a big strike and I have contacted Wal-Mart about an exchange. I would go to the store I picked it up from but they don't carry this tablet in store.
So overall I'm not very happy right now considering I waited over a week to get this and it's already disappointing me before playing with it. Maybe I can exchange it for the HP tablet instead. Who knows. Pictures soon.
Where can I find the info necessary to see whether or not I can root this?
System info:
In Android System Info it states the board is a Gigabyte but doesn't give any other detail. Board is labeled as an R1.
CPU Model: Samsung Exynos 4412
GPU Model: Mali-400 MP
Kernel: Linux version 3.0.50-g5f580f3-dirty ([email protected]) (gcc version 4.6.x-google 20120106 (prerelease)(GCC))
Quadrant score.
So far app availability is meh. Can't even download Instagram.
Returned this for a full refund and spent a little more money to get the Asus MemoPad HD7. Should've done this to begin with I guess.
WTF!
Matt - Wish I came across your posting but me & you were on the same page about our purchase @ first. I figured pioneer. You can't go wrong. I am just looking for a tablet since its my first & if I could afford an ipad I would. Interesting that the both of our tablets were scratched up. I am angry as I waited a week & a half & I plan on traveling across the country in a week.
Matt - who from Walmart do I contact for a full refund?
I am still testing the product out but I am unhappy with the screen as well as the scratches. Not cool at all. All that I want is a good tablet for a noob to watch movies & read books.
Seriously, there arent many reviews since pioneer partnered with Walmart to bring this tablet out. I did extensive research before making my purchase.
I most likely will return & head to best buy. Unhappy.

I purchased it online. To return it I printed out an "easy return receipt" and returned it at my local Wal-Mart store for a full refund.
I went ahead and ordered the Asus Memopad HD7 from Wal-Mart, it was $139. Well worth the slight price difference for a much better tablet. Asus quality, great specs for the money and an amazing HD display.

Bit late for both of you im sure, but did you remove the scratch protector thing that it comes with already on the screen? There is a plastic protective film that does indeed look like the screen is scratched up because its so perfectly applied that you don't even know it has one on it until you carefully scratch at a corner of the tablet and realize it can be peeled off.
Also wanted to add for anybody that finds this as some of the very limited info on this tablet out there, its realllly not worth it right now, while its not horrible, it surely has a cheap feel to the whole affair. It will do basic tasks without much fuss, but many apps are unavailable right now on the store, a lot of the more intense games will simply cause the tablet to lock up and require a hard reset (with the highly annoying pinhole reset button on the back, because we all carry something to poke that tiny button with on the go) even watching a few videos has thrown up a lock up on occasion. Its still serviceable for now, and it will do okay for my wife for the time being, but im much much happier with the Monster m7 I picked up for the same exact price (99 bucks) At least it has run every game and app ive thrown at it without a hitch so far which I simply cant say for the Pioneer.

Just got this tablet as a present for a 7 month baby
Loves her mom's iphone, so I decided to get her this
Got it from walmart. The price right now is only $60
Came in today....the scratches on the screen are actually on a screen protector used by the manufacturer. It needs to be removed and a new one is included.
Went to the Playstore and 95% of the apps I use on all of my tablets are available for this unit...only a few were not.
Very happy with it...sometimes it feels a little slow, but then it picks up
I was able to stream 1080p movies using plex, with Directplay, no transcoding.
Temple run 1 and 2 run just fine and load quite fast
Very pleased for $60
Now, let the chewing begin

Really? Temple run 2 crashes within 5 minutes no matter how many times i try to reinstall it. Quite a few games randomly crash honestly, the thing gets HOT playing any games.

I don't normally play games...just install them for the kids
However, you just made me play temple run 1 for 10 minutes...testing this unit
It does get warm...but no crashes yet...I also watched about 20 minutes of a movie, through plex, 1080p MP4, direct streaming...no problems there either

Also, On eBay, look up, Apad rubber case
It looks to be very similar to this pioneer R1 tablet.
I bought one, hopefully it will fit nicely
Szsion (i am not allowed to post links, google it, the first match is the one) produces quite nice android only (no ce) car navis that fit the design of different cars (audi, VW, mercedes, BMW, Kia, opel and many more).
I bought the Audi A3 version which looks quite like my now obsolete audi rns-e navigation plus.
I assume that the radios are technically all the same with different CAM bus boxes on the back and different designs. Sporting MStar SoCs (subsidary of Mediatek) they have a CPU powerful enough for car radio tasks and have a quite nice display.
I am also happy with the radio reception, which is as good as my original audi device. also i bought a realtek based dVB-T stick which enables me to use SDR along with digital radio, tv and FM in even better quality.
Navigation is VERY accurate, I even play ingress on it
The only issues I have at the moment is CAN bus support, which is because I got a pre-sale sample with some firmware problems regarding can bus support and I can't turn display brightness to full at the momenr, but that could be fixed with a new software.
So , do you guys know something about those devices ? Anybody else owns one? I just saw that DX.COM is also selling them, so chances are that I am not the only one with this nice device..
Greetings

As a trading company selling car multimedia since 2007, we purchased some samples on may 15 ( all with either 8 Gb or 16 Gb storage memory). We are still expecting to see the first units....nothing has been shipped till now....
Also : SION shares it's office address with ZHINAVI, selling same units with another interface....please check what you'll find in XDA forums about this company...I don't want to comment publicly, only in private messages if you want.... For me they are sisters companies, even if SION denies it....I am rather anxious about this....

Don't worry about not getting the devices. They exist
It seems that they are having some trouble with CAN conectivity which they claim is a software issue. I insisted on getting my device anyway and putting on software updates later on. Linkey is very nice if you ask her ...
They could also send me just 4gig model since 8 and 16 are not available yet.
They could, however communicate the problems a little more and not letting us wait 2 months without delivery, a mail saying that it will take some time would be nice...
The launcher they use is very nice, like on the pictures. The cpu is powerful enough for car tasks, gps is awesome. I have the best snr i ever had on any of my android devices.
Dvd playback works, radio is good. As I already said.
Anbody knows a rooting technique that MAY work with the mstar cpu?
I have been following these units as well. I have asked for a video of the interface so that I could see performance. Instead of doing a walk-thru like most companies, I got this, that I uploaded to YouTube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHl2ZaDq3iw
I have also asked about unlocking the bootloader. It seems that the manufacture is interested in modifying his code to Android 5.x I told him if he opened up 100% of the source code to XDA, not only would he have a stable build of 5.x, but he would also have the best selling unit on XDA. I havent heard any more back.
I bought and received one of these for my 2006 Audi A4. It's working alright, sill trying to integrate steering wheel controls and the rear speakers aren't working, these two items aren't huge for me so I'm happy with the purchase so far. Also, I ordered and received the item within a week, crazy fast

Hi Riley!
Do any of your CANBUS features work or is it just the SWC that dors not work?
Also, how happy are you with the display brightness? Mine's way too dim for daylight use. At night, the display is very nice and sharp with beautiful living color, but with sunlight it really sucks so bad you almost can't see anything.
What's your software version?
I forgot to mention how AWESOME it would be to have source code access for this device.
KICK-ASS!
Anybody got an idea how I could try to enhance the display brightness?

I have similar unit for Audi A4 2002 model, rear speakers were not working but got around that by connecting the rear aux outputs left and right to the cables for aux inputs left and right!
I also have trouble with the Canbus support and the LED lights on the unit do not go off when the unit is powered down. Thats not good news for my battery. However the unit is very quick and GPS works smoothly....

Baidu Root works just fine.
The display is not great in the sunlight. I also think the colors are a bit washed out. The radio tries to turn on the back up camera when I go in reverse and the led lights turn off when I turn off the headlights, so I assume the canbus is working. I think the swc is a wire harness issue, I'm going to check it out when I feel brave enough.

Those with Audis, how does the plastic of the radio match the dash?? The HuiFei unit was a glossy and didn't really match the matte factory finish
It looks great against the dash, like it belongs.

Side Note... Those with the Audi that are having speaker issues. 99% of the time this is because the right harness combo is not hooked up. I worked in car stereo for years and tell you the Audi harnesses can be tricky. Sometimes you need to have speaker wires only, sometimes you need to use the RCA jack harness, and sometimes you need to use both.
DO NOT PM asking me to help with your car. This is nothing something that can be troubleshot over the internet. Has to be done in person. Your best best is too pull your radio out and the harness, You should have a separate harness that plugs into the back of the radio giving you RCA output. You will need to take these outputs and try plugging into the harness that goes into the car. A combo of these, should cause all speakers to work.
---------- Post added at 10:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:54 PM ----------
One more question for the Audi guys. The 4 buttons around the volume knob. Can you program these to do certain functions? i.e. One to be home, one to be radio, one to GPS, last one to be Google Music for example.
The default is home, gps, secondary menu and radio. I haven't figured out how to change them yet though
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
Ok, it might be a hack to change them then. Im waiting to order mine as the harness shown to come with the radio is not the harness I need for my Audi. Also been told that the new versions work fine with the SWC. Once I see a picture of what harnesses come with the new versions, I will make my final decision.
Anyone want to install CPU-Z to see what the actual hardware specs are??
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cpuid.cpu_z&hl=en
I'll give it a whirl
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
If you do while on Wi-Fi, online validation will upload the specs and you can share the URL
valid.canardpc.com/a/ac5tun
Interesting it couldnt read the Frequency of the CPU... :-/
You can change the button layout by going to the calculator and type in !(123)= or !(786)=(look what works for you) and then chose the 4th option.
Can anybody share me the gps program they got with there device, mine was navione and its in chinese i dont understand anything of it.
Thanks in advance
I always use Google Maps and just make sure I downloaded the maps for offline mode
