[Q] After moving from stock to CROMI-X 5.4 it stil lags - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi,
A few days ago I eventually got all the stars in the universe to align and I successfully upgraded from stock ROM (10.6.1.14.10) to CROMI-X 5.4.
However it didn't solve the lagging and that is the reason I wanted to move to CROMI-X. For example, tonight when I got fed up the lagging and I tried to reboot my TF700 it took nearly 10 minutes for the the tablet to shut down, however it came back up quick enough (but still lagging). A second attempt at shutting down took about a minute.
I didn't do a factoryreset\wipe before I upgraded so my question is, can I do a wipe in TWRP in the hope it will solve my problems or would you guys have a better solution? Please remember this is my first time putting a new ROM onto my tablet so my technical knowledge isn't great.
Many thanks.

Hmmm did you flash it straight over the top of Asus Stock?
You can do a full wipe and it will greatly help (shouldn't take 10 mins to shutdown - that is awful - mine tales 3 secs)
But before that let's work a few things out.
Reinstall therom again, make sure you wipe dalvik cache and cache in the options, chooe _that v8 kernel, disable fsync and enable the GPU options. Don't install any unecessary apps.
After a reboot leave it for 10 mins. Then go to the playstore and disbale auto updates.
Then go to settings, about - and hit the build number 7 times, this will enable developer settings, go into it (has now appeared in settings near the bottom) and scroll down until you see window animations, transition animations and something else animations and set them all to 0.5x
Finally reboot, and then report back.

Sdbags, first of all thanks for CROMI-X. I have a question tablet is running smooth like new but sometimes when is automatically updating apps from play store it's dramatically slows down. Is there any way to fix it or it just has to be this way. Otherwise tablet is flying.

Easy: Don't set the play store to auto-update apps. Do it when you don't need to use the tablet.

_that all fine but does it meant to be like this??

Some hardware issues can't be masked by software. The eMMC in the Transformer is slow, especially for random writes. Turning fsync off can hide that too most of the time, but at the expense of potential data loss in case of unexpected shutdowns or reboots.
On the other hand, I've recently updated a lot of apps and the tablet was slower but still responsive while it downloaded and installed the apps.

Yes the TF700 can't multitask well due to slow mmc. I can't fix that so I give more to the task needing it. So on CROMi-X whilst the play store is upgrading other apps are waiting.
You don't need play store auto updates - turn them off. It will still warn you in the notification area when you have an update and then you can do it when you are not so busy

Thanks guys. I thought there could be other way around it. yes I will probably disable auto updates because whenever I take it to do something quickly, tablet decides to update apps. Really annoying

Firstly, thanks for such a fast reply. However I need to give myself a few hours to go through your suggestions and due to family commitments I don't have time at the moment. I should however manage it over the weekend and I'll report back on how I got on. Thanks again.

I am recompiling the latest linaro toolchain to 4.9.1 with graphite and lto optimizations setting this time but the tf700 kernel is an ancient version. So I have to mix and match both old and new binary dependencies for it to work with this old source code. I need a tf700 to test it first to see if it is running better. If it is not working, I will send you the one that I am running now. Give me two days for testing and debugging and I will get back to you.
LOL, compiling a kernel is only taken less than 10 minutes but toolchain is taken almost two hours, haha...:crying:

It seems to have worked

Well it took me a bit more than 5 minutes but I did manage to get it done while my daughter did archery training, So I took care of family commitments and this at the same time - win win.
So far it looks like my tablet is back to working nice and fast If it stays working like this, I may no longer feel like doing an Irish Riverdance all over it.
My thanks to you sdbags for all your help and as you know I have already sent you a small token of my appreciation.

My new cross-toolchain is compiled fine but when it boots the screen is flashing like the S.O.S, hahaha. I still don't know why and put it to a side when I have more time to work on it... I will upload my existing ET in a bit so you can give it a test....

Would like a custom rom more than rooting but rooting would be good too Something to clear up the programs and stuff to make the most of the 1.5ghz dual core.

Hi,
I have a zoostorm 3305 that I want to get an external 3g dongle working on. After googling I believe i need to root it first, but I'm new to rooting, and not sure what software/drivers i need and where to get them. I would love some help if you have any on offer.
Cheers
Andychat..
how good are these ?
speed in general
Speed of keyboard popping up when in chrome ?
viewing angles (I totally hate poor viewing angles)
updates
I am more than happy with the speed. Keyboard delay pop-up can sometimes be slow.(its usually when emails are being synced). I improved the touchscreen response by using an app to recalibrate it. I think its hindered by the supplied screen protector.
The only thing I can't do is mobile 3g internet. I think I need to root.
I'm. Awaiting I bit of help from the guru's on this forum.
Cheers

I don't think they are bad. I don't really watch TV or movies on it. It doesn't seem any worse than my Samsung so phone.
Not sure if this helps you much. I would recommend one if you don't have the finances for the Samsung Tablets or the ipads.

sounds good
I did have the Gemini JoyTab 9.7 Duo
I RMA'd it cause as soon as you tilted it slightly right the whole right side washed out
it was so bad that even flat direct ahead you could see the start of the right side polarize wash out with what must be only a few degrees off centre
fine all 3 others ways, I though mine my have been faulty till I went in to a staples and checked their display model, exact same issue.

I sent you a PM via YouTube (Sorry), couldn't post on here for some reason but sorted now.
I have never rooted Android (very new to it) and can't find anything solid about rooting Zoostorm Playtab 10" Tablet. I really don't want to brick it.
I was wondering if you may be able to help me as it sounds like you have rooted the Playtab successfully?
Do you have any links to or name of the guide / firmware you used for the root?
Has the root improved the overall performance of you Zoostorm Playtab as mine can often freeze or delay mid use with the stock firmware?
Cheers mate.

I'm new to Tablets so not sure how useful this can be because i havn't used many others but...
speed in general is quite good however it seemed to run faster when it was new and "fresh" but now having since installed more apps, it seems to temporarily freeze mid-use e.g. going through settings tabs, launching apps etc. I often get a "not responding" message and choice to wait or quit. Waiting seems to work but as this is happening more and more, it's a concern and hence why i'm looking to root.
There is sometimes a 1 or 2 sec delay with keyboard popping up (not sure in Chrome, i'm talking general use). Its not a problem for me.
Viewing angles are reasonable to me but you can see it wash out when looking from the sides but I tend to look at it straight on anyway.
To be honest you get what you pay for (currently £114-£120 on Amazon UK / eBuyer) and it's not bad at all, especially if I can figure this freeze issue.
Hope this helps.

Not sure if you sorted it but these tablets are pretty unbrickable as are most RK3066 based tablets, I've done more wipes & reflashes on this tablet than I care to remember.
You can try to flash the original ROM from here - http://downloads.zoostorm.com/drivers/android/PlayTab/
I did manage to flash a build of CyanogenMod 10 based on another RK3066 tablet on this tablet but it wasn't really what you would call stable, it had screen rotation bugs, random reboots plus Wifi wasn't working at all & as I'm not a developer I soon reverted back to stock, for the most part the tablet runs pretty well with it's stock ROM, 3G works well with the PPP Widget app etc.
It was either this one - http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/39750-romgenerickmod-jb41cwmzip-for-pipo-u1max-m11/
Or this one - http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/41777-romcyanogen-10-for-rk3066-wip/
I'm just glad it has a working CWM Recovery & is easy to root

I'm really digging mine too. Most times when opening Dolphin browser or other browsers it will hang for 5-8 secs sometimes. You guys get that? only think that pees me off really.
If we could get it a tad snappier, would be great too!
How do I get flash on this thing?
I've also got the freezing issue occasionally, not sure what causes that.
My main issue at the moment is I can't use "OpenVPN for Android". It claims it can't access /dev/tun so it doesn't work (ticking the box to fix this in CM doesn't work as it's not rooted). Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Freezing is caused by software trying to access root imho. Avoid software that needs root access.

Reboots when removing power from tablet

From time to time, my TF700 reboots when I remove the power. I make a point of not flexing the power interface and pulling the cable out with no flexing. Should I send it back to Asus for repair? Will I lose the ability to root? I see a lot of posts from folks that can't re-root after an rma.
Thoughts?

First, you need to find out if it is a hardware or a software problem. If it is a hardware issue, you don't have much option except to send it back for rma with a risk of no unlock. You could use cromi control app to play around with your USB options to see how it behaves...:fingers-crossed:
LMK is up to his ears in tweaks and improvements for CROMi-X - so you have to forgive him if he forgets that there are TF700 users not running this custom rom
The Cromi control app is part of a said custom rom, so don't go looking for it...
Are you using the OEM charger from Asus or a charger you bought somewhere else?
I would try a different charger first. If the tablet functions without flaw except for this sudden reboot, I would suspect the charger.

I give up!
I hate this b****y tablet! No matter what I have done, no matter what ROM I have tried (all off Darren's ROM:s and Aaron's CM11), this crappy tablet ends upp being unusable after a couple of weeks. This morning I spent HALF AN HOUR trying to fire up Angry Birds Go, but failed. It spent 15 minutes downloading some 50 MB. I was so angry I almost cracked the tablet against my knee. I don't know how you guys end up having a usable TF700, but I'm fed up. I'm going to buy a new one, and it will NOT be an Asus Transformer, I promise you that!

I am sorry to hear that. Is it really that bad? It seems like your router may causing the slow download. Are you sure that you have tried everything? Maybe it is time to have a clean setup. Do you have data2sd with a good sd? Tweaks the hecks out of it to see any improvement and try a different combo or mix and match different roms and kernels to find a better fit for your device, good lucks...:fingers-crossed:

No, it's not the router. All other units connected to the same router has excellent transfer rates. And no, I haven't tried everything, such as rom2sd, but although I do like playing around with my devices and trying out different versions of Android, there is only so much patience with a problem that simply won't go away, no matter what I do.

Yes, it will take about 30mins to an hour... If you want, I can walk you through the process of changing the tcp. It is very easy and just a line of code in the init.d script...
The tablet is completely wiped and reinstalled with Zombi-X. Snappy as always after a reinstall (including wifi performance), but as usual I don't expect it to last long... *fingers crossed* (and Samsung Note Pro ordered )
Skickat från min Nexus 4 via Tapatalk
I'm exactly where you are - it's become a bi-monthly ritual to wipe/reset my TF700 to increase the speed... but as soon as I have apps installed and need to run Google Play updates, it slows to a crawl. The kicker was trying to read an eBook last night, and it taking 10-15 seconds to turn a page.
I'm selling the tablet, dock, extra cables, cases... not sure what I'll replace it with yet, as I'm nervous about trusting the TF701.
its been the same story over here. i dont keep anything on this pos that a google play restore wont return after a wipe which is a monthly thing now. the last option for me is a class 10 sd and rom2sd. turns out the sd i have right now coulndnt cut it.

Yes, it will take about 30mins to an hour... If you want, I can walk you through the process of changing the tcp. It is very easy and just a line of code in the init.d script...

I would be interested in knowing more about it, because although my tf700t is running fine with KatKiss Lollipop and Grimmlock 5.0 I have from time to time problems with different browsers, they are lagging and choking and freezing tab sometimes. As the name tcp congestion control suggests, that might be of importance to me.

Are you using br2ram? It does speed things up on the browsers? I don't know what tcp that your kernel supports. However, you could add this line in any file under init.d folder with a reboot.
Code:
/system/xbin/sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control=westwood
You can find the tcp_congestion_control that is supported by your kernel here: /system/xbin/sysctl
Good luck...:fingers-crossed:

Since I run KatKiss ROMs, which are outstanding, I have occasionally the Problem, that tablet freezes, when I have open many tabs in browser or/and I scroll very fast on one page. That is mostly very quick to solve by switching tab off and on, but it's nevertheless annoying. Might that be congestion related and what controller would you propose from the above advertised?
I tried your proposal and wait for results. Is the command permanent or do I have to refresh every reboot?
Command sysctl alone doesn't bring up any message.

Does KatKiss has br2ram? If it does, you may want to increase the buffer up a bit to support more tabs...
Yes, the command will be permanent after the first reboot. So you have to reboot your device the first time you added the command....
Base on the tcp list, I would try the westwood first, cubic, and the rest of your choices....Good luck....:fingers-crossed:

I've been about to install b2ram, but the instructions I found on xda were to old (concerned JB), so I set it aside.

You should give it a shot because b2ram is using RAM instead of SSD. So it is a lot faster in speed than our uSD, good luck....:fingers-crossed:

Arghh!!

Nvidia shield tablet Power options help

Heya!
So i just got this Nvidia tablet with blisspop/lollipop or whatever it's called already installed.
Now i've been trying to read through some of the threads on this page but it honestly feels like im reading a different language.
I've noticed the Nvidia power options is gone from the tablet and since im lagging pretty bad often when playing games although not all the time, i'd like to fix this.
I thought the best option would be to increase my cpu usage, do you guys have any guides or tips for me on how i could do that?
Thanks in advance!
honestly, the kernel included in blisspop is plagued with odd behavior.. hangs, audio skips, and weird lag that comes and goes without reason...
some say it works fine for them, but myself and many others have had this issue... so, that is probably your problem.

I understand, is there anything i can install which works better? or am i stuck with the current "kernel" as it's called?
Sorry, i'm not familiar with the contents of blisspop and such.
you can try the official firmware, but if you bought the tablet with blisspop installed on it already... it is probably killswitched... so you need to follow the instructions here or risk breaking your tablet for good.

I'll check it out!
One last question; if i just use it regularly as i've been doing, will it actually just not work after some time?
Edit: i checked my serial number and it said "Next OTA: ST - yy (urgent)" so im guessing it's killswitched

yes, just be sure to remove the ota app as instructed in that post to ensure it won't get delivered.

I assumed the Killswitch is something that deactivates my tablet if i dont do anything to fix it, hence why i asked if it wouldn't work after a while if i didn't do anything about it.
I'll try to follow what the thread says. Thanks for the replies!
the killswitch could kill your tablet the instant it connects to the internet.
make sure you remove it BEFORE you do and you won't have any issues from that point on with anything.

Touch issues / Screen sensitivity issues on Nougat

Okay so I wanted feedback regarding this whether someone else is experiencing this or not.
I have gradually observed during the last few days that a lot of my touches to click have gone unresponsive in Nougat. Initially it was something that I hadnt quite noticed but slowly the trend became obvious. Now dont get me wrong, this would happen a few times here and there with lollipop and MM as well, but the rate is far higher now on Nougat. Especially when typing on the keyboard this means mis-spelled words, missed letters, and accuracy is far worse now.
Has anyone else observed this or is it just me?
oh
Yup i notice it too....keyboard also samsung and gboard. Sux! Bout to go back to mm

Yeah I think i am on the same position you are.
What i just cant figure out is that is this affecting Everyone after the update and people are failing to notice the increased frequency in missed touches OR whether its just a problem for a small number of people.
I am going to try to hold off for a few more days and hope if a solution magically appears lol cause i really dont want to root.
Only way without root would be ota from tmobile. Doubt that will happen

Some people elsewhere mentioned it is possible to downgrade by ODINing previous stock software. Do you think that's a good idea?
I've noticed touch issues, touch input lag when opening Chrome and immediately begin to type and they replaced the period(.) with a question mark(?) on the Samsung keyboard which is so annoying.

You can ODIN back to Marshmallow without rooting your phone. I did it yesterday and I am back on MM.
All of you did full wipes? Full Clean installs?
---------- Post added at 01:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:53 AM ----------
I just used TWRP to wipe wipe wipe the phone. (cache, dalvik, system, data)
Then flashed 7.0 via odin and so far I do not see the touch issues you all are referring to.
Did you all just update via OTA / Smart Switch or even Odin the ROM with out wiping system?
I even tested with piano tiles 2. Never have played the game before in my life and got a perfect on the first song.
XCover 4 Android nougat
Just got the xcover 4 and it and has the same issue. It was worse with the screen protector so i removed it.
Even with the touch sensitivity (glove mode) set to on things get worse.
+1 on these issues, clean install with several wipes.
Battery life also seems worse.

Well first off why are you talking to me like that?
I said nothing about me being special for you to respond with "I don't care who you are".
Not everyone here wipes, there are plenty of new users or people that simply don't have the experience.
I have no idea who you are so I merely suggested a possible common step to try.
I have a note 5 and my wife has a note 5 and we don't experience such issues. I am particular and OCD enough for this to drive my crazy if it were the case. Perhaps something else is going on here.
Anyways, I hope you have a better day tomorrow then you had today.

There is also a 2nd update to 7.0 so perhaps they fixed it.
I am currently using a T-Mobile Note 5 (N920T) that is unrooted (for now). It has Nougat 7.0 installed. I'm using the Nova launcher because I hate TouchWiz and am using the SwiftKey keyboard. I find that the phone is very sensitive to touch, and I get the best results by using a very light and short touch. If I touch too hard or hold a fraction too long, I'm experiencing the same problems. Since my launcher and kbd are not Samsung standard, I don't know if this is any help to others, but I'm not having any problems at this time.
