Reboots when removing power from tablet - Asus Transformer TF700

From time to time, my TF700 reboots when I remove the power. I make a point of not flexing the power interface and pulling the cable out with no flexing. Should I send it back to Asus for repair? Will I lose the ability to root? I see a lot of posts from folks that can't re-root after an rma.
Thoughts?

First, you need to find out if it is a hardware or a software problem. If it is a hardware issue, you don't have much option except to send it back for rma with a risk of no unlock. You could use cromi control app to play around with your USB options to see how it behaves...:fingers-crossed:

LMK is up to his ears in tweaks and improvements for CROMi-X - so you have to forgive him if he forgets that there are TF700 users not running this custom rom
The Cromi control app is part of a said custom rom, so don't go looking for it...
Are you using the OEM charger from Asus or a charger you bought somewhere else?
I would try a different charger first. If the tablet functions without flaw except for this sudden reboot, I would suspect the charger.

CyanogenMod or Paranoid are two other custom roms for this tablet. But nothing beats CROMi-X!

[Q] wake problem after docking

I received my Malata dock this week, and have been using it for charging so far (nothing else connected to the dock but the power connector)
After docking, I'm frequently unable to wake the tab after it sleeps, and have to long press the power, at which point it resets.
I'm running tnt lite 4.1, but tried with 3.14 and had the same results. Anyone else seeing similarities with their docks?

Seems much better with that kernel so far, definitely worth a try if anyone else is having this problem!
Same here, after over 24 hrs testing new kernel, no more SOD upon removal from dock. I think this can be posted as a definite [SOLUTION] for this problem.
It would be nice if someone would start a [PROBLEM / SOLUTION] rollup thread that could be stickied.
I would if I had the time. Any takers?

Yeah its the same for me also. I have yet to find a way to fix it though...
No problem like that on ICS. Hm, there are some pretty annoying bugs in this JB version, I'm starting to be happy without the upgrade . I hope Asus sends a patch version quickly.
Trimis de pe ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T
I get the same, but at least the update fixed something for me. My TV doesn't have a controllable overscan feature and I was getting my screen cropped, now it shows perfectly no crops at all so yeah I take this over the notifications getting cropped any day.
Bah sang victory too early, now it seems its not transferring sound, it used to work before update, I'll have to look into this....
---------- Post added at 09:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:08 PM ----------
Anyone else having problems with HDMI not transferring audio? It used to work on ICS. I tried playing with the cable a bit, but nothing changed. Also tried unplugging and plugging several times, plugging with tablet on mute (read on prime forums) then turning volume up. Nothing works so far. My best guess is that there is something wrong with HDMI coding and my TVs brand. Gonna try on another TV later and report back
You could try with a different player first (like MX Player or BSPlayer), seems like a software issue (I assume that with ICS it worked for you, and that TV).

Yeah it worked on ICS, I tried using Stock google music player no sound, youtube no sound and tried playing a game no sound. There are some ppl having the same problem over this forum:
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/asus-tf300-forum/44971-problems-jellybean-update.html
I'm trying it on a VIORE TV, going to try it on a SONY TV after my family stops using it.
Was thinking of doing a factory reset, but the ppl in that link I posted tried to no avail.
Thanks for the info, now I will surely stay on ICS until Asus pushes some fixes.
Trimis de pe ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T
Okay tried on the Sony TV and it worked with sound, although it's cropping the image as before (overscanning). So it seems there's an incompatibility with my VIORE TV. Weird wild stuff ppl.
EDIT:
Sent an e-mail to a couple of ASUS representative, hopefully they will answer shortly.
I never had this issue with ICS.. i have tryed changing the output type (crop ect) still cut the bottom of my notification bar, but not my recent apps popup..
also tryed on other TVs with no look.. maybe its an asus bug fix job??
This is the response I got from asus, it seems they are aware of the bugs and are working on them. Hopefully we will get an update soon.

Did the previous transformer models have the low volume issue?

Hi,
Only had my infinity for a week so still learning my way around it.
So far I'm really pleased with it. All except the very low volume issue. I installed the VOLUME+ app which has helped a lot.
Is this a hardware issue or is the forthcoming Jelly Bean likely to fix it ?
Were there low volume issues with previous Transformer models?

I can only confirm that the tf201 had (more or less) the same volume, which indeed is quite low.
I'd recommend installing (and therefore buying) Volume+ from the Play Store for .99
It boosts your volume and actually keeps it quite clean as well!!
Besides that: it's merely my humble opinion those two volumes match and I am not entirely sure.
However, you will notice the effect of Volume+
(On a side note: I don't know why so little people answer these kind of questions They're easy to answer, take very little of your time and can help another person a lot.
I hope I did just that by replying! )
I have had volume issues with the TF101 as well... However, while I did have low-volume issues with my original TF700 (which had an un-related hardware problem and completely died), the replacement TF700 volume is actually plenty loud - so it seems to vary, even among the same model.... Can't really explain why though...

Thanks for responding. As mentioned I had installed Volume+, although the free version, which has mad a considerable difference. I hope it's a software issue that'll be fixed without having to use a 3rd party app to fix it. Not that that's a problem, I'd just rather have it right to start with.

It seems as jtrosky posted, some suffer with low volume and some don't. It's seems from my searching that it's quite common. Mine was extremely quiet to the point that even on my own in a quiet room I could hardly hear it at arms length.
Having problems with TF700T
I have problems with sound too, It started cracking today when i was playing a game. Now the volume is on Full but i can only hear sound that is equal to 25%. Sent a email to ASUS about my problem and i haven't heard about it yet. PLUS first reply!

how good are these ?
speed in general
Speed of keyboard popping up when in chrome ?
viewing angles (I totally hate poor viewing angles)
updates
I am more than happy with the speed. Keyboard delay pop-up can sometimes be slow.(its usually when emails are being synced). I improved the touchscreen response by using an app to recalibrate it. I think its hindered by the supplied screen protector.
The only thing I can't do is mobile 3g internet. I think I need to root.

I did have the Gemini JoyTab 9.7 Duo
I RMA'd it cause as soon as you tilted it slightly right the whole right side washed out
it was so bad that even flat direct ahead you could see the start of the right side polarize wash out with what must be only a few degrees off centre
fine all 3 others ways, I though mine my have been faulty till I went in to a staples and checked their display model, exact same issue.

I sent you a PM via YouTube (Sorry), couldn't post on here for some reason but sorted now.
I have never rooted Android (very new to it) and can't find anything solid about rooting Zoostorm Playtab 10" Tablet. I really don't want to brick it.
I was wondering if you may be able to help me as it sounds like you have rooted the Playtab successfully?
Do you have any links to or name of the guide / firmware you used for the root?
Has the root improved the overall performance of you Zoostorm Playtab as mine can often freeze or delay mid use with the stock firmware?
Cheers mate.

I'm new to Tablets so not sure how useful this can be because i havn't used many others but...
speed in general is quite good however it seemed to run faster when it was new and "fresh" but now having since installed more apps, it seems to temporarily freeze mid-use e.g. going through settings tabs, launching apps etc. I often get a "not responding" message and choice to wait or quit. Waiting seems to work but as this is happening more and more, it's a concern and hence why i'm looking to root.
There is sometimes a 1 or 2 sec delay with keyboard popping up (not sure in Chrome, i'm talking general use). Its not a problem for me.
Viewing angles are reasonable to me but you can see it wash out when looking from the sides but I tend to look at it straight on anyway.
To be honest you get what you pay for (currently £114-£120 on Amazon UK / eBuyer) and it's not bad at all, especially if I can figure this freeze issue.
Hope this helps.

Not sure if you sorted it but these tablets are pretty unbrickable as are most RK3066 based tablets, I've done more wipes & reflashes on this tablet than I care to remember.
You can try to flash the original ROM from here - http://downloads.zoostorm.com/drivers/android/PlayTab/
I did manage to flash a build of CyanogenMod 10 based on another RK3066 tablet on this tablet but it wasn't really what you would call stable, it had screen rotation bugs, random reboots plus Wifi wasn't working at all & as I'm not a developer I soon reverted back to stock, for the most part the tablet runs pretty well with it's stock ROM, 3G works well with the PPP Widget app etc.
It was either this one - http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/39750-romgenerickmod-jb41cwmzip-for-pipo-u1max-m11/

I'm really digging mine too. Most times when opening Dolphin browser or other browsers it will hang for 5-8 secs sometimes. You guys get that? only think that pees me off really.
If we could get it a tad snappier, would be great too!
How do I get flash on this thing?
I've also got the freezing issue occasionally, not sure what causes that.
My main issue at the moment is I can't use "OpenVPN for Android". It claims it can't access /dev/tun so it doesn't work (ticking the box to fix this in CM doesn't work as it's not rooted). Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Freezing is caused by software trying to access root imho. Avoid software that needs root access.

[Q] After moving from stock to CROMI-X 5.4 it stil lags

Hi,
A few days ago I eventually got all the stars in the universe to align and I successfully upgraded from stock ROM (10.6.1.14.10) to CROMI-X 5.4.
However it didn't solve the lagging and that is the reason I wanted to move to CROMI-X. For example, tonight when I got fed up the lagging and I tried to reboot my TF700 it took nearly 10 minutes for the the tablet to shut down, however it came back up quick enough (but still lagging). A second attempt at shutting down took about a minute.
I didn't do a factoryreset\wipe before I upgraded so my question is, can I do a wipe in TWRP in the hope it will solve my problems or would you guys have a better solution? Please remember this is my first time putting a new ROM onto my tablet so my technical knowledge isn't great.
Many thanks.

Hmmm did you flash it straight over the top of Asus Stock?
You can do a full wipe and it will greatly help (shouldn't take 10 mins to shutdown - that is awful - mine tales 3 secs)
But before that let's work a few things out.
Reinstall therom again, make sure you wipe dalvik cache and cache in the options, chooe _that v8 kernel, disable fsync and enable the GPU options. Don't install any unecessary apps.
After a reboot leave it for 10 mins. Then go to the playstore and disbale auto updates.
Then go to settings, about - and hit the build number 7 times, this will enable developer settings, go into it (has now appeared in settings near the bottom) and scroll down until you see window animations, transition animations and something else animations and set them all to 0.5x
Finally reboot, and then report back.
Sdbags, first of all thanks for CROMI-X. I have a question tablet is running smooth like new but sometimes when is automatically updating apps from play store it's dramatically slows down. Is there any way to fix it or it just has to be this way. Otherwise tablet is flying.

Easy: Don't set the play store to auto-update apps. Do it when you don't need to use the tablet.

Some hardware issues can't be masked by software. The eMMC in the Transformer is slow, especially for random writes. Turning fsync off can hide that too most of the time, but at the expense of potential data loss in case of unexpected shutdowns or reboots.
On the other hand, I've recently updated a lot of apps and the tablet was slower but still responsive while it downloaded and installed the apps.

Yes the TF700 can't multitask well due to slow mmc. I can't fix that so I give more to the task needing it. So on CROMi-X whilst the play store is upgrading other apps are waiting.
You don't need play store auto updates - turn them off. It will still warn you in the notification area when you have an update and then you can do it when you are not so busy
Thanks guys. I thought there could be other way around it. yes I will probably disable auto updates because whenever I take it to do something quickly, tablet decides to update apps. Really annoying

I have some tweaks that you could try to see if it helps. Let me know if you are interested...
I can't try out your suggestions for a few days

Firstly, thanks for such a fast reply. However I need to give myself a few hours to go through your suggestions and due to family commitments I don't have time at the moment. I should however manage it over the weekend and I'll report back on how I got on. Thanks again.

I am recompiling the latest linaro toolchain to 4.9.1 with graphite and lto optimizations setting this time but the tf700 kernel is an ancient version. So I have to mix and match both old and new binary dependencies for it to work with this old source code. I need a tf700 to test it first to see if it is running better. If it is not working, I will send you the one that I am running now. Give me two days for testing and debugging and I will get back to you.
LOL, compiling a kernel is only taken less than 10 minutes but toolchain is taken almost two hours, haha...:crying:
It seems to have worked

Well it took me a bit more than 5 minutes but I did manage to get it done while my daughter did archery training, So I took care of family commitments and this at the same time - win win.
So far it looks like my tablet is back to working nice and fast If it stays working like this, I may no longer feel like doing an Irish Riverdance all over it.
My thanks to you sdbags for all your help and as you know I have already sent you a small token of my appreciation.

Congrat...:good: _that's kernel is very stable and fast... Majority of users like his kernel...
@sbdags
My new cross-toolchain is compiled fine but when it boots the screen is flashing like the S.O.S, hahaha. I still don't know why and put it to a side when I have more time to work on it... I will upload my existing ET in a bit so you can give it a test....
