Did the previous transformer models have the low volume issue? - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi,
Only had my infinity for a week so still learning my way around it.
So far I'm really pleased with it. All except the very low volume issue. I installed the VOLUME+ app which has helped a lot.
Is this a hardware issue or is the forthcoming Jelly Bean likely to fix it ?
Were there low volume issues with previous Transformer models?

I can only confirm that the tf201 had (more or less) the same volume, which indeed is quite low.
I'd recommend installing (and therefore buying) Volume+ from the Play Store for .99
It boosts your volume and actually keeps it quite clean as well!!
Besides that: it's merely my humble opinion those two volumes match and I am not entirely sure.
However, you will notice the effect of Volume+
(On a side note: I don't know why so little people answer these kind of questions They're easy to answer, take very little of your time and can help another person a lot.
I hope I did just that by replying! )

I have had volume issues with the TF101 as well... However, while I did have low-volume issues with my original TF700 (which had an un-related hardware problem and completely died), the replacement TF700 volume is actually plenty loud - so it seems to vary, even among the same model.... Can't really explain why though...

Thanks for responding. As mentioned I had installed Volume+, although the free version, which has mad a considerable difference. I hope it's a software issue that'll be fixed without having to use a 3rd party app to fix it. Not that that's a problem, I'd just rather have it right to start with.

It seems as jtrosky posted, some suffer with low volume and some don't. It's seems from my searching that it's quite common. Mine was extremely quiet to the point that even on my own in a quiet room I could hardly hear it at arms length.

Having problems with TF700T
I have problems with sound too, It started cracking today when i was playing a game. Now the volume is on Full but i can only hear sound that is equal to 25%. Sent a email to ASUS about my problem and i haven't heard about it yet. PLUS first reply!

Asus needs to turn off touchpad while typing

On most laptops the touch pad is turned off while tying. This is great for fat finger people like me who constantly hit the touch pad while typing and end up all over the page. Would love to see this option added.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
There's a button on the top row of the dock to disable the touchpad. Just push it before you start typing.
You're touching the touchpad when you type due to improper posture. The proper posture is to elevate your palm to the same level as the rest of your hand, this gives you the fastest response and decreases ergonomic issues (it gets more tiring but you'll get used to it)
And also, my hp doesn't turn off the trackpad while typing. Just fyi =P
Yeah, supposed to elevate your palm. ^^^
i've never ever seen a laptop that automatically shut off the trackpad when typing.
but yeah, just press the button. it takes a second.
Speaking as a piano player, I see bad posture all the time with both musical and electronic keyboards. The thing that ticks me off sometimes is that these people blame the hardware instead of their bad posture. It's like holding a phone upside down and then complain that the phone was built upside down so they couldn't hear what the other person was saying. Ridiculous.

Same here. I opted to adjust the sensitivity so the cursors wouldn't jump around as much.
Pretty sure it is an option to turn it off in windows since vista and Apple laptops also do it.

Wow... I'm seriously all for the support and discussions within forums to help others with their problems, but seriously? Before you suggest what a company should or shouldn't do, maybe you should read the manual for all the features.
Turning off the mousepad IS an option on the keyboard.

I think the op was referring to auto turning on/off when typing - well, that's how I read the subject line of their post.
I agree it should be automatically done, there wouldn't be a need to have an on/off button if it is done automatically. not everyone has perfect typing posture and some people have fatter palms than others!!
I'm pretty sure that this is option in mac and windows synaptic drivers ('palm detect' option or something... This is even achievable within linux if you mess about with xorg.conf files, do a google...

op means auto-off for the trackpad while typing...read twice please
Notebooks don't tend to turn the trackpad off. Rather, they build the ability to differentiate between palm touches and intentional touches into their trackpad software. That's what I'd love to see Asus do, because as much as I try to maintain good posture, I've run into this problem quite a bit on my Transformer.
I'm guessing that'll be resolved in a future update...

That's because some touchpad drivers have an OPTION which you have to turn on where it will disable touchpad when typing or when a mouse is plugged in. Not one laptop that I know of would do this automatically.
Secondly, I really thing your're being picky beyond reason. I mean the Android keyboard already has every possible shortcut on it. All you have to do is hit the mousepad key and it's done!
Regards
The OP is referring to "Palm Rejection" which is a feature that the touchpad / touchscreen firmware has to support. For Synaptics, they call it SmartSense.

Which would likely get very annoying having to do it every time you stop typing and need to use the trackpad.
I honestly have had better luck anyway leaving it off. I use the keyboard for typing and my finger for navigating. It works great and i haven't used the trackpad in days.

Asus needs video of latest firmware issues- PLEASE HELP!

This is a call to all xda tf700 users to post video of issues they have seen since JB. I have been working with several employees from Asus on the crashing, black line, and other issues related to the firmware update to Jb and .18 Please help document these issues in this thread so we can make sure Asus resolves all of these issues in their next firmware.
Rules:
Please only post if you have a video or link to any issue since the update.
Please only post if you are running stock .18 firmware, no custom recovery or roms, root okay.
Please only post if you have done a factory reset since the update, not just cold booted to try to resolve the issues.

Yeah, that is not quite what I was looking for, but I really appreciate the post. It is like some others have said- black line or lines that flash for a brief second. This post is not specific to that issue though, if anyone has video proof of any issue that occurs after the update, please post links.
In jb asus bumped display from 18 to 24bpp, you can see the in kernel source code. That is probably the cause of it.
In .18 asus did not change anything in panel code so i'm not surprised black line is still there.
I speculate that timings for panel communication are to aggressive causing data errors that produce the black line and my problems that i will describe below. When thing go more wrong connection with panel hangs causing tablet to hang.
I have a panasonic panel for the record.
I checked it because it seams to me that on my tablet odd rows are not always displayed.
Or to put it another way it looks like vertical black lines that you can see for a split second but then are gone.
They are easier to see if you move the tablet back and forth at about 25cm from eyes.
You need to have good eyes as from 5 ppl i'm the only that sees them. Also there is another old thread that describe this vertical line pattern.
I think is almost impossible to catch my vertical lines or the black line on camera because they last only a split second and are so thin that video compression will remove them.
If assus don't find a fix when i'll have some time i will unlock my tablet and try to tweak the kernel.
Knock it off please
Any more back and forth bickering and I close the thread. This goes for "all" parties.
If you don't have anything useful to post, then don't post it.

Nope, unfortunately that would be an issue with the camera module itself- I have auto focus, and the video is clear. You will have to RMA for that issue, many others have reported issues with the camera that required replacement to fix it.

Same issue that many are having... wish there was a better way to capture it.. anyone have an hdmi capture device? I have verified that you get that behavior on an attached monitor also.
Is Asus trying to say that they haven't seen the "black line" issue themselves? If they've used the JB ROM (which I'm sure they have), they can see this issue all by themselves - I don't think they need a video of it...

No that is not what they are saying. It's more for the exposure it gives the issues to the corporate headquarters... allows Asus USA to pressure them for faster updates.

Interesting... Sure sounds like a good old "lets keep the users busy doing worthless things until we can actually get the issue fixed" ploy! I don't think for one second that Asus Corporate HQ is going to do anything faster because users are providing videos of something that that they damn well know is an issue... Again, this is just a typical customer support "delaying" tactic and won't do a damn thing to help get these issues fixed.
Nonetheless, good luck...

[Q] Ridiculously High Volume

Good morning all, I had a question ocncerning the ring/notification volume on my MAXX HD. Right now the lowest volume setting is extraordinarily high, way way too high for an office setting or even anywhere besides outside on a runway. The highest setting is nearly painful. Is this some sort of weird bug on my phone or are others noticing this as well? Can someone possibly recommend a solution without a third party app? Or at least a functional 3rd party app?
Thanks,
MF
(Never thought I would ever have this problem after my Nexus One and Galaxy Nexus were stupidly quiet)
Android is very poor at managing various volume levels. I use and suggest AudioManager. Its free, the paid version lets you save presets...very useful.
This topic has been brought up before somewhere here on the boards. It's the phone, not just you.
The issue is that the volume button only deals with the ring tone and vibrate. You need to change the notification sounds under settings then sounds

Even then it's loud on the lowest setting. Especially in a quiet room or at night.

Reboots when removing power from tablet

From time to time, my TF700 reboots when I remove the power. I make a point of not flexing the power interface and pulling the cable out with no flexing. Should I send it back to Asus for repair? Will I lose the ability to root? I see a lot of posts from folks that can't re-root after an rma.
Thoughts?

First, you need to find out if it is a hardware or a software problem. If it is a hardware issue, you don't have much option except to send it back for rma with a risk of no unlock. You could use cromi control app to play around with your USB options to see how it behaves...:fingers-crossed:
LMK is up to his ears in tweaks and improvements for CROMi-X - so you have to forgive him if he forgets that there are TF700 users not running this custom rom
The Cromi control app is part of a said custom rom, so don't go looking for it...
Are you using the OEM charger from Asus or a charger you bought somewhere else?
I would try a different charger first. If the tablet functions without flaw except for this sudden reboot, I would suspect the charger.
