So at random intervals, I keep seeing a triangle with an exclamation point next to which says "no connection" when I'm on the home screen. I restarted my phone n it still does it. What's going on? And this only started last night. All stock, with a few bloat apps disabled, and many apps background-restricted.

I kept getting this but it was on the lock screen. It would say emergency call only even if I had 3-4 bars. Haven't had this happen yet on the TMO g3 using ATT service. I switched to the TMO G3 because of the unlocked bootloader and, after seeing the tethered recovery being worked on, was thinking of going back to the ATT G3 but I remember how and the service was. That's what's keeping me where I am.

has anyone else had this problem? It is STILL happening, and I need to know if its the software or hardware.

Just picked up my htc sensation 4g last night. My old phone was a galaxy, and when I got in range of wifi, the 4g would turn off. Sometimes on the sensation it stays on, or comes on from time to time while in range of wifi.. Is this normal, if not, is there a way to fix it?
I think this normal due to the wifi issue it could be choosing the best connection the only way u will have true control is by turning the 4g off, etc

How do you turn 4g off?
Just bring down the notifications and then hit the quick settings tab then push the mobile toggle.. Make sure the wifi is still on

Know this post is a little dated, just wondering if you are still having the issue.
I have a Sensation and 4G is never on when I'm connected to wifi.... NEVER. So if its still happening I really would really check into that.

I stand corrected. I just noticed that my Sensation that both the 4G and wifi icon was displayed at the same time.
It happenned when after I openned the MyAccount app. This app does not work over wifi so phone automatically switched on the 4G radio in order for the app to work. Once you leave the app it remains running in the background which causes both icons to remain displayed.
So if you use this app (or maybe any other app that does not work over wifi) this could be the cause for both icons to be on.
What I don't know is if it is actually using both wifi and 4g at the same time or does it turn the 4G completely off until the app requiring it is exited.
Bump.
I have the same issue. I use wifi exclusively at home, but sometimes seemingly at random I see a cell connection icon in the notification bar as well. Today it's been on for several hours. I have not used My Account in weeks. When I look in Task Manager no apps are running.
I assume there's some app that "needs" to connect via a cell tower, but don't know how to identify it. Can this be blocked, and if so would that just cause some other issue? Seems like a really unnecessary battery drain, but not a huge problem far as I can tell, just odd.

Yeah, I just had it happen to me again a few days ago but this time it was while using the Market. I wanted to purchase an app and noticed that now there is an option of adding it to your mobile carriers bill instead of a credit card so I opted to added to to my bill. Well I am assuming so that t-mobile needed a direct connection with my phone for billing so of course the 4G icon all of a sudden pops on.
In short I am saying I am sure it happens when certain apps are running that need cellular data vs WiFi. Don't know if you can block it but if you do those apps will not perform correctly. Also there are many other things running other than just what the stock task manager shows you.

I understand some apps apparently need a cell connection for some reason, perhaps it's location tracking, but mine's been connected for 4 hours straight today. Hard to imagine there's that much data being transferred on a 4G connection. Really seems like something is hung. Just tried putting my phone is airplane mode, then back to regular mode. When I turned it back on the 4G icon appeared for a few seconds then went off and is staying off. So looks like a force interrupt unstuck whatever it was.
Hey guys,
I've had my gs5 since launch and initial Best Buy told me they were having issues getting the phones to activate and that it would take a bit... So I switched the default LTE/CDMA antenna to automatic mode and eventually it acquired data and LTE/3g works, however it keeps warning me about how activation isn't complete and when I let it go through the process it just ends up failing and retrying 5 times. I need to force close it to make it go away but If I restart it comes back.
TLDR: phone has data/service but still tells me to activate in notification tray.
Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it? Much appreciated.

I've been having that issue as well. Do you live near a spark network area?
Where I live the LTE doesnt have csfb and I think that had part of the reason why it wouldnt fully activate. But I live near a spark network so i drove up into Ft. Worth and restarted my phone in LTE/cdma mode and went thru the activation process yet again. And this time it worked and hasn't come back since then.
I had a similar issue
I called sprint many times and went to multiple sprint stores
I finally got it activated though phone call
If the first rep can't activate it
Hang up and call again

You're probably missing /carrier folder files. I'm not sure if Alpineman has them posted for the S5 in his HFA loop fix thread.

Anyone else have issues with the Internet dropping. Signal shows full connection to LTE, but I won't get internet until I toggle airplane mode or reboot. Happens once or twice a day... Do I have a detective unit?
I have the same problem. Mostly at work when I'm on wi-fi I have a weak LTE signal and I have to text I have to toggle airplane mode.
I've been on the phone with AT&T about this situation on two different occasions. Never happens on Wifi for me. They're sending me a new phone.

Yes!!!! I'm having this problem. I had it happen a few times last week and today it was completely bonkers. Its kind of aggravating. I'm considering swapping it out but I'm afraid it'll be the sane thing. So then I wasn't sure if I should wait for a software update.
No matter what, I can never stay away from android for long.
This happens to me on Wi-Fi after being on the phone. The Wi-Fi connection does not work while on calls. Anyone else having this issue?
Hmm my Wi-Fi was working great at my work. I come home and it didn't even see my network as being active/didn't auto connect to it. I've had the phone two days. A reboot fixed the Wi-Fi and it connected back up fine after. I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Ive had the same issue where it shows strong LTE signal but nothing works. Just yesterday it did and I had to toggle airplane mode on and off before it works. Ive had this happen now 2 or 3 times. Not sure Id call it a deal breaker but its annoying for sure.
Yea I feel the same way about it being a deal breaker or not. I don't think exchanging the phone for a new unit will help cause obviously we here are all experiencing it. I love the phone enough to not want a different phone, so I think I'll wait it out for a software update.

Yes, happened to me twice on LTE. Usually it happens in the morning after I unplug it from the charger. Had to turn on airplane mode then off to fix it. Annoying for sure.
I had this problem on the G2 running CloudyG3.

Exact same issue here. Started a thread about this in the G3 section (prior to the AT&T G3 section being created) and still haven't received an answer there either.
Like someone else said, I had this happen on my G2 as well. Even remember it occurring once or twice with my Sony Z2. So far, only once on my G3. Toggling airplane mode off and on corrected it. So, not sure it's the phone.
This has happened to every phone I've had since mg iPhone 3g. I don't think its a phone specific thing for that reason. I had the same issue on my S3 and Note 3 as well. Its annoying but I haven't found a way to fix it other than toggling airplane mode.

Just curious, is the internet dropping out completely to where the icon goes away or is it just not loading web pages or stuff like that? I noticed that if that "allow Google apps to scan" thing is checked then it messes up the connection sometimes. Even if you uncheck it, it still may cause problems, so what I do is "forget" the network I'm signed into, turn off WiFi, turn it back on, and reconnect. That usually fixes it.

I had the same thing happen on my s4. I thought it was an AT&T thing
I've had ATT for two and a half years first an iPhone 3GS and then a GS3. Don't remember this happening with them. And even if it did, it wasn't enough for me to go on a forum looking to see if others were having the issue.
are you referring to what I made a thread about? Yes there were times on my S3 the data had issues, tho yea I didn't wind up checking on here. But could that be bc the G3 actually tells you? But then again, the "no connection" thing just started on mine last night.
I have had this happen a few times over the past few days. Was waiting for a phone call, and it looked like I was connected. Had 4 bars,4g icon, and the activity indicators were blinking. But no data or voice was getting in. Needed to reboot to get it back.
FWIW, I didn't have this happen until I removed carrier iq. Since I did that a few days ago, it's happened probably 4 or 5 times. Not necessarily relevant, but it's the only thing I changed before it started happening.

I recently upgraded into the note edge and I'm experiencing consistent service loss. Seems like anytime I use anything network related ( cell network ) after a very short period of time it drops signal and take 5 mins or so to reconnect.
It's running 4.4 android and there are no official updates available to me
I'm on the sasktel network. This is very frustrating as I really do love the device.
I don't believe it's a hardware issue I strongly believe it's software related.
I've googled and have found that the Sprint Edge was giving some people grief but I have seen few to no solutions (and the ones I've tried have done me no good)
Please help!
Ive got the sprint 915p and mine does the same thing. Very annoying. Inly way to stay connected 100% of the time is to stay on 3g which sux. It is a known issue from what i have seen. Some phones are said to work themselves out of it. Inwiped my sim card points down with alcohol and forced my phone to reprovision and do a hands free activation. Seems to have actually helped some.
Sent from my SM-N915P using XDA Free mobile app
I also experienced the same thing and I thought I am the only one. Mine is a Bell Note Edge and using it under Telus network. Since acquiring this one 2 weeks ago, it has been a constant pain. There are times when my network signal would drop from 5 bars to no service and lasts for about 2-5mins for every 10-15mins of each hour. I had replaced my old sim card and purchased a new one a few days after getting the Note Edge. There are times that restarting the phone would fix the issue for about a few mins then it would go back to no signal. There are times when my LTE would just hang for a good minute or so. No problems with wifi connection and data up/down is consistent.
I also believe that this is software related. I had the somewhat of a similar experience with my LG G2 but this was in regards to the Wifi d/c issue. I had to wait 2 months for a dev to look into the issue and when he did, i flashed the modded kernel and wifi was better after that. I also contacted Samsung Mobile and the customer rep mentioned that they are not aware of any issue, which meant he didnt know jack at all. Hopefully somebody figures this out. I had to revert to my Note II as my daily driver.
Ya i wish there was someone out there that knew what exactly the problem was and could fix it. Its annoying when someone on here says its a known issue and clearly there are people having problems and complaining about it then the service representative says they dont know anything about a known issue.

I had the same problem with sprint. Went there and found out that I had a bad phone. They ordered a replacement and swapped it out. No issues after that.
Sent from my SM-N915P using XDA Premium HD app
Ya im gunna do the same thing its just a matter of having time. They want to look at your phone and "replicate the problem" before they replace it. I have already sat there for an hour to tell me about certain towers being down. I guess it was working ok for them when they looked at it. Its not all the time for me. Its that every once and a while when i got time to kill and i dont have wifi that it decides to act up that pisses me off
Sent from my SM-N915P using XDA Free mobile app
I get that too. There are days and hours where my phone cell network signal works flawlessly. There are days when I could barely get a signal.
Ya its random with me too. After wiping all the pads on the sim with alcohol and doing a hands free activation ot seems to be doing a lot better though
Sent from my SM-N915P using XDA Free mobile app
On sprint, since i updated to LP, this hasnt been nearly as much of a problem. .. 1 dropped call in a week, in a busy theme park, in a tunnel....
My Pixel is constantly saying "lost Internet connection", literally saying it. But it has not. I have looked and tried every setting I think may be causing this. Has anyone had this issue? Does anyone one know how to at least shut her up?
Sent from my Pixel using XDA-Developers mobile app
I get this a lot. Then when I look up at the signal bar, my LTE and signal bars will pop back up. And this is in areas where I never had this problem before. It's like my reception drops out for a few seconds then pops back up, even in areas I know for a fact I should be getting perfect reception
Mine is never saying that.
You might check a logcat of those moments and see if you can see which app is calling internet. (Try app CatLog)
Maybe an old broken app...
