[Q] Security Pattern/PIN disappeared - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This morning I came into work and as I unlocked my phone it did NOT ask me for my pattern. I have a number of Xposed modules working, but none have been activated in the meantime of this happening. When I go to Security, my last option is still set, yet I'm not asked to enter any of the option whens unlocking the screen.
Anyone had anything like this happen? I really don't believe I've changed any settings between the security working and not working. This is very troublesome. I'll do a complete reinstall of everything if I have to, but I wanted to see if anyone has heard of this in the meantime.

Never happened here. Try to uninstall Xposed Framework then reboot and try again.

It's somewhere in the Xposed modules. When I uninstalled the framework, it asked right away for my PIN. I'll go back and see which module is giving me the problem. So far I have installed:
Blurred System UI
Burnt Toast
Chrome New Tab (Xposed)
Complete Action Plus
Gravity Box KK
Notification Count
Shaky
Shortcut in App Info
Unicon
YouTube AdAway
I know I changed a setting (I think in Gravity Box) that makes the lockscreen always require the slider. Then it would ask me for my security PIN or Pattern. But I've had then running for a few weeks now. Blurred System UI is a newer mod for me and I was trying out a Translucent mod for KK as well yesterday, but I uninstalled that.
We'll see. Might even go to the L Preview for a while. It worked great for me, but I missed the Xposed additions.
Thanks for the advice. Good call.

It seems it was Shaky that was causing the issue. I've uninstalled it and won't go back since I don't use it much.

Messing smart extra - quick reply not working after update

A feature I use all the time is the quick reply feature of the messaging smart extra.
After the latest update, I went to use it and instead of a list of quick responses I got a white screen with "I'm here!" in a large font which then disappeared and the watch went back to the watch face.
I cleared all the data, same issue.
Then I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Same again.
Has anyone got the same issue?
Can anyone confirm it is working for them?
If it is working for you, do you have the smartwatch xposed module too?

Do you have find my smartwatch... that sounds like the window that opens... I have the xposed module
You were correct! Thanks. However, when I uninstalled "find my watch", the messaging app appeared twice. Uninstall, then reinstall didn't fix it. Deactivated the smartwatch xposed module, restart watch and phone, this time the icon for calendar opened the quick reply of the messaging app! Uninstall xposed, reinstall sw2 software, reset watch, now it appears to be working normally, however I can't overlap widgets Will check forum for updated hacked apk!
Solved
I solved this issue by reinstalling the stock Sony versions, resetting the watch, then after it was back and functioning normally, I reinstalled xposed framework and module.
Now it is all working perfectly

Indeed reinstalling one-by-one did helped. I guess the problem was caused by restoring all at once with Titanium.

Need help with "Google Play Service unexpectedly stopped"

A couple of weeks ago I started getting error popups, always at least two (dismiss the first then the same exact error pops up again) in a row, then usually a short pause followed by another two popups. It seems to mainly happen when I start on the move, particularily when driving, but then after the first one, or two sets, it won't happen again for a while. Every now and then it will happen at home when I'm on WiFi, but it's less than once a day that I see that. In case you can't see my sig, I'm running stock Kitkat 4.4.4 with Xposed & Gravitybox.
Steps I've taken to try to resolve this is, freezing various apps that I'd recently updated right before this started, installing both older and newer versions of Google Play Services (currently have 6.1.83), updated Google Play Store (5.0.32), cleared the data and cache of Google Play Store, uninstalled GPS updates (4.8.20), and updated to the latest Franco kernel version (r63).
Still the errors come up. Anything else I can try short of a factory reset? I'd rather not have to do that right before Lollipop, when I'll just be flashing over it again anyway.
the very first thing that you should have tried is completely remove xposed and anything that has to do with xposed. whenever you have an issue, and xposed installed, you cant really check anything else without removing xposed completely. xposed comes with many undocumented issues, it can break just about anything. so, if you have an issue, the very first thing is remove xposed.
I thought about that, but absolutely nothing was changed before the issue and after the issue. Earlier today I updated Gravitybox and a couple of other modules, but that didn't solve the issue. I suppose I'll try completely removing it, although I doubt that will fix anything since as I said, nothing in my Xposed framework had changed when I started having this issue.
Edit: Well slap my mouth and call me Sally. It's definitley an Xposed issue. Now I just need to narrow it down to which module is causing the problem. Thankfully it's not GB.
Thanks, simms22. I guess some change on a Google Services side must have had an issue with one or more of my installed modules. If I had to guess it is probably the "Disable Location Consent" module.
Simply reflash stock 4.4.4. Should end the issue. A fresh start. ?

[Q] GravityBox not working

I noticed that no matter how often I keep reinstalling XPosed and GravityBox I always get the error message that the GravityBox framework is not responding. Is this a Rom based issue or is there some way to fix this?
EDIT:// So I realized it is a Huawei general issue. I installed Xposed 2.5.1 (and changed ro.config.hwtheme to 0 in the build.prop). Now I am able to properly install GravityBox and run it. The problem now is if I for example activate PIE controls or change something from the status bar (and reboot) nothing changes. Even if I activate immersive mode for both sides only the nav bar disappears. Nothing else happens tho.
EDIT2:// So some functions do work. I can use the GravityBox nav bar (although it makes the recent app icon disappear) while some functions like the PIE control simply do not work. Is there some fix?
EDIT3:// Using the GravityBox Navbar the buttons only work on the Homescreen. As soon as you enter an app you have to restart the os in order to quit the app.

GravityBox works best with AOSP Roms and Roms that are very close to AOSP I think there is a mention in the app.
Quoting from the official repo that can be found here http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.ceco.kitkat.gravitybox
GravityBox is a module which primary goal is to provide the users of AOSP devices
with a tweak box to turn their vanilla AOSP ROM into custom ROM packed with additional features and tweaks
without need to flash anything. Most of the preferences can be changed on-the-fly without rebooting.

It's not Huawei's fault ,if you are trying to install an application and configure it, that is supposed to run in vanilla environment into a heavily customized ROM like EMUI and MIUI if we count XIAOMI too.
Give a try to Xblast Tools , does almost the same than GravityBox, and seems to be more compatible (at least for me).
Does everything I wanted from GB.
And don't post on GB thread, you will not be the welcome (Huawei rom, blablabla ... read the red warnings ... )
For some reason my XPosed installation doesnt work anymore. Tried reinstalling always shows that the Service isn't started. Only disabling rescource apis make it run. This emui stuff is really annoying. I'd love to have an aosp rom

Did you tried Xblast Tools ?
Yes I did it worked after installing XPosed 2.5.1. Though most of the stuff is heavily bugged while the rest doesn't even work. I guess we really need a vanilla rom. Honestly even GravityBox worked more with 2.5.1

Hello a little bump , do you advise me to install xposed framework on Honor 6 with EMUI 3.0 ?

My setting keep Crashing as I attempt to open it

Hello Everyone!
So Yesterday I installed Xposed Framwork 2.6.1 to get gyroscope upon my phone, because I learn that my phone doesn't support gyroscope but as I installed Gyroscope I found other cool apps I liked which is Force Screen Rotation and Force Immersive Mode, and Gravity Box KK, also I have a LG Vista D631. After downloading and installing these apps I reboot my phone and tested the apps out. They worked pretty well so I change a few options in Gravity Box, Immersive Mode and Force Screen Rotation. Afterwards I watch a couple of YouTube videos and went to sleep; the next day I woke up and notice WiFi off (Which always does that when the phone sleeps) but as I went to settings it immediately crash. I don't know why but this problem just happen because before I installed these apps I could go to the settings. I tried fixing the problem by booting in recovery to wipe the cache but that didn't work, so I wipe the entire data which that didn't work as well, so I than factory reset but that didn't work as well. So I'm basically screwed, so I than slide down the notification bar to go to the settings and I notice the rotation bar was different. I figure there was a bug from the xposed framework app but I formatted everything and the setting still crashes immediately. Now I use shortcuts to connect to the internet and manage my storage but I can't clear the data in the settings. PLEASE HELP!! Someone

First. All exposed mods are not fully tested or are by trusted people. Anyone can make one and uploaded how I understand it. Exposed mods things in the system that can mod it and do funny things. Backups are a must if you plan on using exposed. Do you have. Backup before you installed? You can reinstall your ROM if you use a custom on. I only install YouTube adblock and gravity box. That is it. I tried others that was junk and did not work on my Turbo. I uninstalled and had no problems. gain, I would reinstall a backup or your custom ROM if you use one and see what happens.

I never had a custom Rom because I couldn't found a Rom for the LG Vista, so I'm basically screwed
Can you find a stock ROM then? You did not make a backup?

Well I can try your source out but how do I know it's going to work, I already look at your second source and that's not my phone version, my phone version is d631 unless I could use that one. I'll text back to see if it's working

[Help] Just bought an S8. Almost bricked it (Substratum-related)

Backstory
I bought a brand new S8 two days ago.
I decided to give Substratum a try. So I got both the app and the Samsung add-on.
I then downloaded and installed "StatusBar Icons (+extras) for Samsung." I toggled all or selected all the options for the overlay. I restarted my phone and it worked perfectly.
Then I was notified of a system update, so I downloaded and installed that as well. This was when the issue occurred. After the reboot, a popup, "System UI has stopped." kept showing. The screen is black. I couldn't do any actions. I couldn't turn off my phone. If I switched to safe mode, the issue was still there. The only thing I could do was restart my phone but of course that didn't fix the issue.
The Fix
I did a bit of research and found that one of the possible reason was changing the system nav bar. I am certain that this is the cause because it's the only "out of the ordinary" thing I did on a brand new phone.
There's some good news: I fixed the issue by restarting my phone and immediately pressing power button + volume up button + Bixby button together. I was able to factory reset my phone from there.
Concern and Questions
I'm pretty bummed because I absolutely LOVE theme-ing and customizing my Android phones and this experience has pretty much made me paranoid from doing anything to my S8. :crying: :crying: :crying:
Is there an exact cause for this? How do I avoid this issue from happening? Is Substratum still unstable for Samsung devices? Is there still hope? lol
Thank you for your help!
No, substratum is stable. You should have uninstalled all overlays before the system update. If you don't, systemUI can crash.

My bad!! I take it firmware update = system update? (facepalm)
Yup. It may be overkill on my part, but I uninstall any overlay before I update a "substratumed" themed app as well.
Check out the substratum threads in the themes forums - they know their stuff?

I tempted fate on both my S8+ and new Note 8, accepted a system update on both without uninstalling the subs and they didn't have any issues - subs still installed. IMO the subs are just apps and not going to have any issues, at least I didn't.
Will substratum work with go launcher z?
Is substratum just a particular look or something more?
