My setting keep Crashing as I attempt to open it - General Questions and Answers

Hello Everyone!
So Yesterday I installed Xposed Framwork 2.6.1 to get gyroscope upon my phone, because I learn that my phone doesn't support gyroscope but as I installed Gyroscope I found other cool apps I liked which is Force Screen Rotation and Force Immersive Mode, and Gravity Box KK, also I have a LG Vista D631. After downloading and installing these apps I reboot my phone and tested the apps out. They worked pretty well so I change a few options in Gravity Box, Immersive Mode and Force Screen Rotation. Afterwards I watch a couple of YouTube videos and went to sleep; the next day I woke up and notice WiFi off (Which always does that when the phone sleeps) but as I went to settings it immediately crash. I don't know why but this problem just happen because before I installed these apps I could go to the settings. I tried fixing the problem by booting in recovery to wipe the cache but that didn't work, so I wipe the entire data which that didn't work as well, so I than factory reset but that didn't work as well. So I'm basically screwed, so I than slide down the notification bar to go to the settings and I notice the rotation bar was different. I figure there was a bug from the xposed framework app but I formatted everything and the setting still crashes immediately. Now I use shortcuts to connect to the internet and manage my storage but I can't clear the data in the settings. PLEASE HELP!! Someone

First. All exposed mods are not fully tested or are by trusted people. Anyone can make one and uploaded how I understand it. Exposed mods things in the system that can mod it and do funny things. Backups are a must if you plan on using exposed. Do you have. Backup before you installed? You can reinstall your ROM if you use a custom on. I only install YouTube adblock and gravity box. That is it. I tried others that was junk and did not work on my Turbo. I uninstalled and had no problems. gain, I would reinstall a backup or your custom ROM if you use one and see what happens.

I never had a custom Rom because I couldn't found a Rom for the LG Vista, so I'm basically screwed

Can you find a stock ROM then? You did not make a backup?

Well I can try your source out but how do I know it's going to work, I already look at your second source and that's not my phone version, my phone version is d631 unless I could use that one. I'll text back to see if it's working

[guide]Package Installer will not install apk's - Cancel works but not Install button

I practically ran into the same problem as outlined above. Since googling for this issue was not straightforward, I thought it wise to make the answer to this issue into a micro-guide.
I can no longer install apps (apk's) from the Amazon App Store, or from downloaded apk files, but the market works fine.
I am not rooted, and I am still running 3.2 (US). This started in the last few days, but I can't think of anything that I have done.
I cold booted, but I still get the same results; The install dialog box comes up with the options at the bottom "Install" or "Cancel", however, install does nothing, the window is active because you can press "Show All", or "Cancel" and those do work, but not "Install". I can't think of anything that I have overlooked.
Any Ideas?

The most a) likely solution comes in the form of b) security applications interfering with the installation, c) package incompatibility with the device or screen filter applications used to lower the device's brightness below the minimal limit of the Brightness settings.
In my case it was the application "Lux" which was to blame. Thus make sure to untick "stay alive in the "generals" option menu. And kill the Lux app. Now installation proceeds unhindered. Avast was not at fault. So don't freak,- often the solutions are trivial - finding the answers isn't.
Thanks to anyone who contributed in the original thread and to xda.
Oh man, thanks for this! For me, it was the app 'Screen Adjuster' that was blocking apps from being installed. I turned that off, and I finally have an ad blocker again!

Re: Install apk problem - install button not working
If not already done:
Settings -> Apps -> All -> Package Installer Clear Cache & Data, Force Stop, reboot. If this doesn't work repeat, but reboot into recovery and wipe the cache partition.
Still having issues try AppInstaller. Still having issues, there must be a bad system app (frameworks?) that needs clearing and force closed.
100% work
Thank you so much! I was about to tear my hair out in frustration! I had tried everything! But this never occured to me.
I had this inssue too. It's problem with apps which work in background and creating some overlay elements. Disable all this apps and than you can install normally. I had this problem on P.A.C. Rom, after addition of HALO
Sorry for my bad english
Was having trouble installing APKs. The 'install' button was not working. Turning off halo fixed problem.
Another app causing the issue
Velis Auto brightness.
Too bad, because I liked this app. If anyone knows of an app like that that does not cause the issue, I would appreciate the name.

It's Obvious that you have to look for a installed app that does something with youre screen.
succes
For me it was Zulu's Droidmote server
Sent from my SCH-I815 using xda app-developers app
My was the Easy Eye. It overlays screen element to minimize blue LED.
For me it was JuiceDefender Ultimate. I turned off its brightness control function and I could install apk's. That's odd. After installation I turned it on again, because this function is doing a good job and I love JuiceDefender.
However, thank you for your guide! :good:

Thanks for this insightful post OP! I never would have thought something this simple could cause this problem. Night Mode was causing the same issue for me as this guy.
Thank you so much!
I'm having the same problem since the KitKat update, but I don't know what could be causing it. Please help

Ultimate Rotation Control has now broken TWO of my phones!

This app: Ultimate Rotation Control
has now claimed a second victim. A long time ago, I installed URC on my Motorola Atrix, as a way to force screen rotation in certain apps. Once I uninstalled URC, my Atrix could no longer use the system's auto rotate feature, until I completely wiped it and installed a new ROM.
Well I was hoping that it was just a fluke, a one-time incompatibility with the Atrix. Because I needed it on my new phone, a Samsung Galaxy S3, because it was the only way to get Tasker to rotate my screen.
Well sure enough, the moment I uninstalled it from my S3, I could no longer use the system's built-in auto rotate feature, AGAIN.
I have tried rebooting, reinstalling the app, uninstalling the app with different settings (like uninstalling it while in force-rotate mode), toggling system rotate in different conditions... NOTHING I've tried gets it working again!
I've contacted the developer, but in the mean time, does anyone have any suggestions to get my phone's auto-rotate working again? Perhaps there's some hidden system file that URC messed with, that I can go edit to fix all of this? I really don't want to have to do a factory reset again!

Flash what ROM? I'm running stock, rooted. My phone is unlocked.
But of course wiping the entire phone would fix it. I'm asking if there is any way to fix it without wiping everything.
Right now it seems like the only way I can get it working is to have the app installed and running at all times. Strange that I'm the only reviewer that has noticed this behaviour, maybe no one else has ever tried to uninstall it before?

[Q] Security Pattern/PIN disappeared

This morning I came into work and as I unlocked my phone it did NOT ask me for my pattern. I have a number of Xposed modules working, but none have been activated in the meantime of this happening. When I go to Security, my last option is still set, yet I'm not asked to enter any of the option whens unlocking the screen.
Anyone had anything like this happen? I really don't believe I've changed any settings between the security working and not working. This is very troublesome. I'll do a complete reinstall of everything if I have to, but I wanted to see if anyone has heard of this in the meantime.

It's somewhere in the Xposed modules. When I uninstalled the framework, it asked right away for my PIN. I'll go back and see which module is giving me the problem. So far I have installed:
Blurred System UI
Burnt Toast
Chrome New Tab (Xposed)
Complete Action Plus
Gravity Box KK
Notification Count
Shaky
Shortcut in App Info
Unicon
YouTube AdAway
I know I changed a setting (I think in Gravity Box) that makes the lockscreen always require the slider. Then it would ask me for my security PIN or Pattern. But I've had then running for a few weeks now. Blurred System UI is a newer mod for me and I was trying out a Translucent mod for KK as well yesterday, but I uninstalled that.
We'll see. Might even go to the L Preview for a while. It worked great for me, but I missed the Xposed additions.
Thanks for the advice. Good call.

It seems it was Shaky that was causing the issue. I've uninstalled it and won't go back since I don't use it much.

Auto rotate not working even when ticked? (Factory Flashed 5.0)

So pretty much my auto rotate doesn't work even when its ticked or un-ticked and re-ticked, I even rebooted and nothing. Funny thing is that the accelerometer seems to work when I try a game that uses it so I have no idea what the issue is..
Back story to what I did is I flashed factory 5.0 and tried to root flashing SuperSU but found it didn't work so had to use CF auto root to finally get root working. I then installed all my apps and just used Titanium backup to restore data to my apps not system data. I didn't realized it wasn't working till recently. Anyone have any idea why this would happen or what I could do to fix it? Preferably not having to refresh everything... lol
I don't think Google home or whatever the stock launcher is supports rotation. Does it work when inside other apps?

No it doesn't work in chrome or any other apps that support it thats the issue.
Stock Lollipop via factory images or OTA, or a 5.0 ROM found here?
Same as mine !!!
Having same problem . Will not auto rotate after ota lollipop update . Will rotate and tilt to steer in games and youtube rotates when going to full screen but nothing when turning the phone . I've done a factory reset and now been advised to down grade back to kitkat but I'm not too confident doing that .
Somebody said to give it a couple of hard smacks on side to free y axis , thought they were taking the p-ss but I've just "smacked" mine and now auto rotate working again !!!
Mine has a different thing. I want to disable autorotate in my device, but it won't disable at all. I tried disabling from the quick toggles, from the display settings, and even from accessibility, but my phone still auto-rotates. Is there some way to lock the orientation of the screen?
Edit:
So I decided to wipe cache and dalvik from recovery as a last resort, but not expecting much out of it. To my surprise, it now works as expected. I had to enable auto-rotation again from accessibility, but afterwards it was working perfectly.
It is quite odd however that I am running stock, just unlocked and rooted. No xposed as well, and this happens. I have always hated wiping dalvik as it takes long (longer now in 5.x.x) to rebuild the cache, but I must admit, a lot of the odd issues I have encountered were fixed by these "easy" steps.

The phone does not wake up properly after flashing Oreo?

Hi there, your comments would be greatly appreciated.
To keep data, I flash the whole 8.0 stock firmware after removing -w.
After using days, the phone can't be easily unlocked, even by power key or by FPR. Sometimes, I need to wait a more long time for the phone waking up.
Sometimes the incoming call can't even wake it up, I can't answer the call.
Have reflashed the firmware with -w available then restore all my app via titanium backup. the issue persists.
Please help! How to tell which app prevent the phone from waking
Try factory reset and not restoring data with titanium rather Google backup

Thanks. have tried clean install. everything is fine before restoring data with titanium.
So there must be some app which prevent phone from waking. Is there any chance of find this app.

thank you dude, will take a try.
If the issue persists you could give a list of the apps you install if you don't mind.. maybe we can figure out which one affects the unlocking. :highfive:

I'm having a similar issue, but in my case I'm having trouble waking up the phone after it's been unplugged from the charger. If I use my phone all day after a full charge (and after rebooting), it's silky smooth, but the second I plug it in, the issue starts until I reboot again.
It might be extreme, but I've done this multiple times on previous phones. I restore half my apps, say the ones starting with A through M. If there's no problem, then I install half of what's left, say N through S, etc. Keep doing this as a process of elimination. Yes it's tedious but eventually you can narrow down the problem app and/or app data. You could also try restoring all of your apps without data, and if there's no problem then restore the data for half of the apps, etc.
Otherwise, as @PunishedSnake said, don't restore data (or even apps) at all with Titanium Backup. It sucks but we all occasionally have to do that.
I've since factory reset my phone with minimal app installation (no Google restoring of apps), but am still experiencing this frustrating glitch, even with/without unplugging the charger and rebooting.
Debating whether or not I should root (and downgrade).
Safe Mode fixed the problem. I will try to find the apps which prevents the phone from waking up.
How can I do this.

I think I've found the problematic app in my case. I've been using immersive mode through Custom Navigation Bar and after disabling it, my phone has become responsive again. After double checking the app's description in the Play Store, it seems the dev hasn't updated it for Oreo yet.
#FirstWorldFragmentationProblems
Edited: In order to fix this problem, simply use Tasker to disable Custom Navigation Bar's Immersive mode whenever you turn off the screen, and re-enabling it either when you unlock the phone, or only for specific apps (which is what I do).
Yes. try to enable immersive mode via this command
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=apps,-com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
now everything is fine.

Glad to hear you were able to resolve your problem. In my case, I actually don't want immersive mode activated all the time so I may still have to root in order to selectively choose which apps I apply this command to.
