Warranty question - Asus Transformer TF700

I bought my tablet on new egg and bought the warranty from them. I want to root it cuz it is slow ass hell. Has anyone sent a rooted tablet in for warranty? It is an extended warranty so I'm thinking it wouldn't be a problem.

Rooting it doesn't break the warranty but it doesn't speed it up either - you can delete few things form /system maybe and install some apps that need root.
Unlocking it allows you to install a customer recovery which allows custom roms and much heavier optimisation as now the kernel can be modified as well. It is the booloader being unlocked that breaks the warranty. Whether New Egg would realise this or not I'm not sure. Asus would.

is there away to tell if the G2 has been rooted before even if it was a temporary

so i just got off the phone with a T-mobile rep and i was just curious. is there a way to tell if the g2 has been rooted before even if you used visionary temporary root. the reason i ask is because the rep explained to me that if the phone has been rooted in anyway then the handset protection would become null and void.

Sorry about that... There isn't a way I don't believe for tmobile to check if the phone was ever rooted. Just don't tell them if its rooted. I'm on verizon and if you have warranty but can't go back to non root if the phone has a internal problem not caused by damage, just say you lost it. Sorry, hope that answers your question.

It would get locked. So basically useless. You couldn't use it on an account. "Dirty ESN"
If you had a say a broken mic and you do have warranty but the phone was rooted you couldn't send it in because it voids the warranty. If the phone was rooted then un rooted back to how you would get it now out of the box there would be no way of knowing. Did you get the phone as a refurb or Craigslist? Ebay?

No the phone is brand new from T-mobile I was just kind of freaking out cause I thought after using the temproot something would change in the changelog. Like a hash code or something of the sort

Hi, broke my phone week ago, got a Q; can they in the warranty service find out i´m on Thaiz 2.8 custom rom? If they find out, lose my warranty ´-`.

If YOU can't unbrick it, so do they I think.
I sent mine for a power button repair with cm7 installed and nobody cared. They sent me back the same divice with a fresh mainboard indicated by the change in imei.

While LG might be able to argue a custom ROM has messed up the software environment, they would still be obliged to repair/ replace hardware that fails during the warranty period so if the phone is in for hardware failure I doubt they'd care about custom ROMs.
They usually ask you how you bricked the phone. If you play dumb enough to fool the employee into writing anything, the engineers won't mind

I'm pretty sure xda had a video not too long ago saying something along the lines of, they can't technically reject it unless they can prove that what you did is the source of the problem. Like, if you volume keys don't work anymore, a custom ROM has nothing to do with that.

Warranty issues?

So I have a rooted tbolt and lately my phone has not been charging. I brought it into Verizon and they said they're able to replace my phone with a refurbished phone which was fine. But what I'm concerned about is do I have to unroot my phone before I send it in? Does it even matter? I hope nothing voids my warranty I've been paying for! Well my insurance anyways.

[Q] Rooting voids what warranty?

OK guys, so I know that rooting your Skyrocket voids the warranty, but I've been looking around on the net and I've seen some phones that when you root, the warranty only no longer covers things directly involved with the rooting, for example, bricking, uninstalling system apps, getting infected by virus/malware etc. So the question is, does this apply to the Skyrocket?
Simplifed: Does rooting the Skyrocket make it so that if I were to drop my phone, screen cracks, and I send it in, will Samsung just throw it away? Or is it just that if I root my phone, brick it, send it in, THEN they throw it away?

Odds are they won't even know unless your flash counter is higher than 0 in download mode. Even then, they still probably wouldn't notice.
Note: When I wrote this, I assumed we were talking hard-brick. Goes without saying that yes, if your phone boots up and they can see it's not stock, your warranty is voided.
If they can prove that it's been rooted, they won't even touch it. You'll be responsible for the full replacement cost.
If they can't prove that it's rooted (won't turn on and needs a software restore to get it working again) then it's up to whomever is looking at the phone to determine if they will cover the replacement under warranty.
Please note - I've had a rooted device that was replaced under warranty, but only because it would not boot up at all and so it could not be proven that it was rooted.

So then, say, I dropped my phone on a rock, and it could boot up, but there was nothing caused by the software itself that went wrong, they wouldn't even touch it?

Everything is void. You have to flash back to stock to get it fixed.

I know, I just thought maybe there was a different plan.
Best buy black tie plan is much better IMO. Little bit more expensive, but no deductible and no limit to replacements. I got a replacement for mine, no questions asked.

I don't even touch warranties. They're expensive and almost always useless. If my phone is severely damaged somehow, it can be restored to stock and bricked in Kies whether the screen works or not.
Now, in terms of drops...let's just say I'm very careful not to develop butter fingers...

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh

Yesterday sd card erased all of it's files by itself. This morning I got up took phone off charger everything working fine. Went to fix my little girl a bottle came back and phone was completely dead. Would not take a charge for anything. Took it to best buy and now I'm stuck with evo 4g that is stuck on 2.3.3 for the next 3 days:banghead:

I like the Best Buy insurance personally as they have no charge for replacement phones and when I filed a claim they gave me a Galaxy S2 as a loner and the claims process was pretty painless. They don't cover from loss or theft however. Also without the Asurion insurance there's a charge for certain maintenance at Sprint repair stores.
