FINAL FANTASY III -- now on Android!
First released in 1990, FINAL FANTASY III was the first title in the FINAL FANTASY series to become a million-seller, establishing once and for all that Square Enix's classic RPG saga was here to stay.
The full 3D remake released in 2006 duplicated the original's success, selling over a million copies worldwide.
FINAL FANTASY III was a hallmark of innovation for the entire series, from the job system that lets characters change classes at any time to the ability to summon powerful creatures such as Shiva and Bahamut.
When darkness falls and the land is robbed of light, four youths are chosen by the crystals to set forth on a journey to save the world.

What about Final Fantasy 4! I'm assuming that it's the same with that release too! Thans for the heads up. Great news

I tested FF4 and it does work, BUT there is an issue with Circle that i cant see them fixing. It behaves like Cross so you have 2 buttons that are Enter but no back key or run button. Strange that FF3 works fine as seams like the same control system.

Goto Menu > Settings > Gamepad and change it to "Layout 2" and the back/run button will function as it's supposed to in FF4.

Whoa, that's big news! How are the controls? Is there touchpad optimization?

The run button works as an I/O switch instead of hold to run, otherwise it's great. There is no touchpad optimization, but it's very playable.

Not sure if really needs touch pad support even if they implemented it. Playing on my Nvidia Sheild and the left stick only performs 8 way D-pad actions on both this and FF4, so not missing out on any full 360 movement.
Still its great we now have a choice apart from touch screen.

ANDROID MARKET LINK
A new FPS was released on the Android Market recently, The Dead: Chapter One. The game is yet another attempt to replicate the COD: Zombies formula(hurray!). Although not explicitly mentioned in the Market description, this game is fully Xperia Play optimized! The analog sticks and buttons all work perfectly, and the touch controls disappear when you slide the gamepad out! I have played with the touch controls and they remind me of the controls for FPS games on Android before Gameloft. The Xperia Play saves the day once again.
Awesome! I was wanting a third person break from all the two stick zombie shooters.
I'm hoping this is more like L4D than COD:Zombies though :S
Jesus... I'm officially 20 games behind on updating my Xperia PLAY game list now
EDIT: Looks like they didn't add R800a to the device check -_- doesn't show up in the Game Launcher or work with the gamepad controls for me.
Controls are great... game is a bit boring after a while though.....
This game is awesome the controls works really good for it too

So for the few of you it DOES work for, did it also show up in your Xperia PLAY Game Launcher?

No it doesn't. Also I'd hardly qualify this game as awesome, you aren't missing much. You run around a 4 room house and kill waves of 20 zombies at a time (and they all look almost identical), eventually you get a key and a rifle, which shoots too slow to be useful so you go back to the pistol you already had. IMHO its about as deep as the shallow end of the kiddie pool.
If this game is awesome, MC2 is Beethoven's 9th Symphony. The only thing it has going for it is the targeting controls don't suck.
Controls is not working for me.. Saw some Xperia play options on control's settings, but no option to apply it.. So I just pressed back button..

Damn shame they're taking so long to fix this.
EnbornX had this same issue where the device check excluded certain models, and Lantansia had that **** patched ONE DAY later. I hope these guys do pick up the pace, because the touch controls are really horrible.
tried it on two plays. but no dice
The game's been updated! About to check out the new version shortly, I'll EDIT with impressions shortly.
EDIT: Working nicely! Shows in in the game launcher too. The movement does not give the option of Continuous (Analog) or Absolute (Swiping) it's all continuous, all the time. I like that you actually have control over the X/Y individually, and don't really have any major complaints about the controls... but the game itself is just kinda... *yawn*. Maybe it's just the first few waves, but I was slowly going to sleep.
Needs more emphasis on getting different weapons, hordes that really make you go "OH ****!" and whip out some awesome reaction skills... and... iuno... it's just missing that *magic* that Left 4 Dead had... it's got plenty of what made me get sick of CoD: Zombies in one day, but I don't want that.
Maybe I'm just setting myself up for disappointment by expecting what this isn't instead of appreciating it for what it is... L4D has me highly biased, and something that doesn't live up to that action usually just puts me to sleep.

I'll admit, I was kind of praying for a 2D fighting game... but this was even more of a pleasant surprise! Just a couple days ago I was thinking about how badass it'd be if someone would bring Streets of Rage-style beat 'em ups back to life... but with RPG elements so that it doesn't get boring after one hour.
...and lookie what I ran into! The graphics are quite distorted through stretching, but the game runs nicely, and it works well with Xperia PLAY's physical controls (which is nice, because - as we could expect - the virtual gamepad is simply awful ).

I didn't comment on the Zenonia 4 topic, but you guys should already know by now that an Xperia PLAYable RPG won't be released without me promptly getting my hands on it
As for how I find this stuff... most of the time I'm just hunting for general Android games that look like they'd be badass on Xperia PLAY, without specifically searching for Xperia PLAY games.
What helps me out is that a lot of games have generic compatibility with d-pads and the enter key (which I probably don't need to explain is X on Xperia PLAY) so while a game may not specifically be Xperia PLAY optimized, a lot of the times generic key compatibility means it'll work well enough to play.
So it's basically just trial and error.
About that... I found out Caligo Chaser is compatible with qwerty keyboards. One could just use game keyboard to set up physical controls, it's quite easy... But the onscreen controls just can't be disabled The onscreen controls can't be disabled on King Pirate as well - Caligo Chaser also seems cool. I mentioned those games because of this one, they seem quite alike. Which leads to the question... Can onscreen controls be disabled on this one? Your screenshots make it seem so.

Whooaa. So lemme get this straight, there IS a way to get Caligo Chaser working with Xperia PLAY's controls? It's kinda my favorite game from iOS and I've been hounding the dev team for about a year trying to get them to add in Xperia PLAY compatibility to no avail. I'm just sayin' I'd geek pretty hard over that.

Sadly no... matter of fact, the options don't allow you to do much at all :\
We could always try asking the devs. Got us Further Beyond Fighting and Castle of Shadows.
Yep, it could be done. I haven't tried it, but c'mon... A giant popup tutorial shows up telling you qwerty compatibility. Just write down the buttons and then map them using gamekeyboard the only flaw, as I've just said, is the non-removability of the onscreen controls :/ but yea, we have to ask the devs. At least about that

Have you played the one i linked to? Just curious and if so between the two versions which would you say is the better of the two? I have already pulled the trigger on the one i linked to and bought it some time ago and Irealyl enjoy it especially as I can move my .wad files to my card and use those...
I bought the other Doom... then returned it almost instantly after finding that it doesn't use touch-pads.
Sorry, but I just can't go back to the days of strafing with trigger buttons. Simply tying the polar forward/backward and strafing to the left touchpad, then camera rotation on the right would make worlds of difference in "terraforming" this game to today's standards.
Is the new version worth buying? Does it play well with the xperia play controls?

I'm putting a little request out there.
I Absolutely love this port, and it runs flawlessly on my SGS2.
Now, I was wondering if you could change the touchscreen controls so that left/right in the control-stick turns instead of strafing, maybe put it as an option?
Maybe make them more like official iOS port controls?
thanks in advance.

How the hell do you take out of the screen the touch "buttons"? They are annoying...
sufy1000 ha ha ha I like very much
The Sony folks really need to demand that developers sort out their stuff with the Optimized tag. Any game where on-screen buttons appear while you're using the gamepad is simply not optimized. The same goes for games which don't use the thumb sticks at all.

Yes, but there are still already touchscreen controls and people who don't have the xperia play who like this port.
Just because it's on the xperia play doesn't instantly make it an exclusive.
I try to install doom2, anyone can help me?
I've put doom2.wad in the folder and launch the game to download datas. I've recived "doom2_ATC.zip" that i've unzipped in folders "OpenGLES2/doom2" and "MP3/doom2". When I select doom2 in the launcher, he load the game but I return immediately in my desktop. I've not try to uninstall and reinstall the app, what must I do?

Check "Disable touch controls (Xperia Play)" on the launcher.
This is by far the best port I've seen.
One little thing I had to do though, since my brightness is low on my phone, is if you touch doom guy's face it brings up the gamma controls on the bottom left. Cranked that all the way up and I'm good, now.
Just checked out the latest update, the new no mouse-look controls are a lot better.
Thank you, you amazing dev!

Me too. The CPU isn't maxed out, it's just that the game seems to be only running at about 50% speed.
I reported the slowness to Sega Support at https://support.sega.co.uk/home, via the Submit A Request link and got a request number of 8718 back. I mentioned I was using an Xperia Play of course. I checked the Knowledgebase and the issue didn't seem to be on there yet.
That link is for EU/UK, I don't know the best way to report it elsewhere, but perhaps more of us should report it to Sega.

[GAME][4.1+] NES-like Tetris with multiplayer and no on screen buttons

Hello,
I was searching for a good NES-like Tetris version for Android with online and offline multiplayer support and good touch control for ages. Didn't find any, so I decided to made one myself.
If you also love to play classic NES-style and multiplayer, give it a try. Multiplayer offline works within LAN, online via Google Play Games. You can also earn Play Games XP when performing special actions but of course the app is usable without it.

thanks for the game, it seems good
Uploaded the game to Amazon App Store and added the link for those with Fire devices.
Oh boy, you don't know how long I've been waiting for someone to make a competitive Tetris game that could be played on Android with multiplayer. Honestly, I think there's a lot of potential here if you can polish the game.
First problem are the controls. The control scheme, which requires you to hold your finger and move to move the blocks really doesn't work. You should have the option of going with the traditional (Gameboy) scheme which is basically the 4 directions, two rotations, and a drop...all on separate buttons.
Thanks for your honest feedback.
As for the controls. I did not want to use on screen buttons like the most other Tetris variations for mobile devices. It is not playable when you reach faster levels: You don't hit the buttons and then - game over. This does not happen on Gameboy, of course. The haptic feedback guides your fingers to the right place to push. So, my approach was to reverse this: Instead of your finger needing to hit the right place on the screen where the button to move is, the buttons follow your finger. This is the virtual gamepad you've seen. You say you had to hold your finger and move to move the block. That's correct - but you don't have to move your finger all the time. That is a common misunderstanding I see, but I don't know how to avoid it. Obviously the Tutorial is not clear enough, but another difficulty is that players are used to drag&drop gestures on touch screens. But look at the animation above. You see the gray dot, that's the touch point.
The players that get used to the approach are mostly satisfied with it and like it. So - is my assumption correct, did you think you have to drag the pieces?
the game looks very promising.. installed and will try it.. thx!
i have tried some tetris clones using on-screen buttons for control.. imho they are not good for touch screen games..
this is actually the reason why im attracted to this game's approach..
Added link to the Github repository with the game service extension (just the game service implementation - not the whole game is open-sourced )
The game has now reached v1.00 with over 1000 downloads, 40 reviews and a rating of 4.8!
User interface was completely refreshed and the game is also available for Android TV and FireTV.
WOW. I randomly passed by here and am so glad I did! I wil definitely share it with everyone I know who likes Tetris.
Thank you again! The EA version was .. more than disappointing for me and you did it perfect
Nice and simple game
What kind of engine did you use to build this game ?
Good tetris. Unfortunately it is impossible use name Tetris in the Google Play due to copyrights.
Looks very good, and the multiplayer function is very great.
Thank you all!

I used libGDX to develop it. I can really recommend this engine.
@Diameyy I am currently working on a global, turn-based multiplayer. I will post here when it will be available in the beta channel.
