New to the m8, coming from a G2 which doesn't offer Art on stock so I have minimal experience with it. What seems best for performance? For battery?

What are you looking for in a ROM? Customization(CM7 obviously), stock with a little more oomph?(Oxygen, Bugless Beast).
Here's a list of some of them:

My personal favorite is Devnull ...

Good battery life and speed

I've only ever tried Oxygen and Blandroid. I think the former was a little bit faster and compared to what I'm getting to ICS, battery life was phenomenal. Lol.

Which one?

Oxygen. General consensus is it's probably one of the best Gingerbread ROMs for the NS.

I had Franco's kernel on it when I was using it. The stock kernel is pretty good too.
The link is for the GSM version which I'm assuming you have.
Nexbreed works fine. Download it in Rom Manager
Any recommendations on a ROM that is close to the Nexus Experience phones? I'm interested in a ROM that is as close to 100% pure Android as possible with minimal extra customization's that's being actively maintained. Would that be CM, Carbon, LiquidSmooth, something else? Thanks!
I think CM would be your best bet for that.

Lmfao, I just realized that Bone Stock is Touchwiz, my mistake. Bone Stock wouldn't be anywhere near the Nexus. I'd agree with CM then
It must be the 4th weekend because you aren't getting blasted yet for asking that question. There are several good roms to try. I have have tried pretty much everyone one of them and would recommend you try them to see what you like. I like liquid smooth or cm 10 or paranoid and they all are good.

Well of course he didn't get blasted, he didn't ask what the best was He asked which one had the least customization
This is just an observation. Wondering if anyone else has noticed. I've had a Gnex, Nex4 then an HTC One. Now I'm back to Nexus with the 5. I only noticed this because I had the HTC One for a little bit. That things flies through this process. I just assumed it was because it had a faster processor and faster in general. But now that I've had the Nex5 for a few weeks, I see the slow "upgrading" process. The Nex5 has a faster processor with the Snapdragon 800. vs the 600 on HTC One. Of course, this is not life altering stuff. But does anyone have some insight?

Are you using ART or dalvik

Whatever comes stock. I've seen some talk about that. But haven't taken the time to learn the difference.

That's my first thought too. I'm using ART and it definitely feels like it is taking a longer time spent on each app.

Interesting... I just read up on it. I haven't changed the runtime setting. So I'm using dalvic. I may try ART.
Thought some of the devs might find this interesting. Sounds like a great function.

Amazingly stable.
I've had all the Galaxy S2, S3, S4, Note 3, Note 4 phones with AOSP or CM based ROM's and the Moto X Pure MM ROM's, especially Dirty Unicorn, have been by far the most stable of any other phone I've had.
I haven't had a lock up or crash at all in months. Everything just,,, works!
And it's compatible with all the carriers, I'm on Verizon LTE.
Sucks that all the latest Sammy superphones are locked up even on T-Mobile now.
Can't wait for the new Moto X Pure 2 to come out in July/August.
I wouldn't. Wait a few months.
I've always rooted my Android phones, saying that, the Samsung Galaxy S7 works so great out of the box, I don't miss root. Using the Nova-Pro launcher, adblock for the Samsung Browser, works fantastic, browser incorporates fingerprint scanner, Love it. Using the S7 without a case, have the clear, dull skin protector on the back & front, eliminates 85% of greasy prints and makes the phone feel great in the hand. Have it unlocked but staying with T-Mobile, I get very strong signal & killer speeds, Very Happy with Phone & Especially T-Mobile.
