I just got a new nexus and I have a few questions. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

[I am not going to root it this month, so please, no posts about how it is a must thing to do, why it is beter to do it now than later and so on (especially about unlocking a bootloader - I already know that)]
1. What are a must apps for nexus 5 (non-rooted)? or other, not must, but nice to have?
2. Must have (and cheap, as I've already spent my ~400$ on this nexus) accessories?
3. Just some simple tips and tricks that a new android kitkat and N5 user should know
(This phone is a beast! :victory: )
EDIT: Should I update it from android 4.4.2? And ART. Should I turn it on before or after the updates (yes, I already decided on updating and on ART - I'll turn it on after all the updates. So no answers to these needed )

For me -
1. Nexus Flashlight, skifta (photos to tv via dlna), silent hours,
2. wireless charging pad http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IQTGY2A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
3.
btw - use ART. And update to 4.4.4. turn on ART, your phone will be unusable/slow for an hour or 2, and then will speed up (and battery will not be used!).

You should root it straight away cus it wipes the phone clean and it'll be really annoying in the future ?

I would update to 4.4.4, and use ART. In terms of apps I highly recommend dashclock and add the widget to the lockscreen. It allows for your notifications to be displayed on the lockscreen in a clear and efficient manner. It takes a little time to set up but I believe it is well worth it.

Nope First, I told not to tell me to root. Second - it is possible to root without unlocking bootloader. And third, I just rooted my nexus 5 using towelroot So yeah people. What do I do with root and locked bootloader?

Good for you for rooting with out unlocking. There really are no must have apps. The n5 out of the box is pretty good. The only thing I like is xposed and gravity box. But no art if you use xposed

nm - saw that he rooted.

I recommend unlocking the bootloader now because it does a factory reset in the process. Doing so later will be annoying...

+1 cus you'll only end up doing at a later date regretting not doing it now ?

He doesn't need to unlock it unless he has to flash back to stock if he can't boot.
He should automate backups from sdcard using foldersync though.

Not even close You can unlock bootloader from rooted device without wiping All you need is a Bootloader unlocker for nexus (or something like that) from play store.

[Q] galaxy tab plus lag

I bought this tablet last week, but the problem is...it's very laggy when you play it for 30 minutes. so I rooted my tab and install antutu cpu master, it runs on 1200 mhz but after playing it for approximately 20 minutes, it stuck on 500 mhz. the question is, how can I fix this issue? thx before
edit : this tab runs on 500 mhz when I played games (any games)
Funny you would mention it, because for me its been a bit laggy since the firmware update I got some time ago.

if you wish to fix this issue then you will need to flash the xxkl7 Malaysia firmware but you will loose high speed data coverage unless you have wifi only then your fine haha its the only know release of stock firmware not to have SOD or any other meager issues... it worked for me.
if it works thanks me
for CPU issue, I think the latest tegra donate version supports our device.
other recommendations:
deodex, zipalign. remove bloat. get a startup manager. wipe caches and reboot.

Anyone else got Firmware Update 10.4.4.23?

Busy with nothing I simply pressed the button to check firmware update for my TF700T. Then a notif came up telling me to install an update. After a temporary unroot I did what it said, and now I'm running Firmware 10.4.4.23-20121127, mine is WW. Root restored without any issue after rebooting.
Can't really see any changes (yet), probably have to dig deeper.

I've just installed mine but have not seen any difference. Maybe preparing the way for 4.2?
Could anyone upload the dlpkgfile for ww??

I did an Antutu benchmark, before update I was getting about 13300 or so, now I am getting 14400. I also think they have unlocked 1700 mghz for all cores except power saving obviously.
Got the update too, nothing too obvious seems to have changed.....
And I forgot to backup the dlpkgfile, sorry @geri.st

You haven't seen the performance of Cleanrom and Clemsyn kernel yet. I ran the .23 version and it's no where near the performance of the Cleanrom/clemsyn combo. I went back to stock just to see the .23 perfornace, but after one day, I'm back on Cleanrom/Clemsyn kernel.

From what I've read I truly believe in you. The problem is that I didn't use NVFlash when possible (had already updated the bootloader) and I don't want to risk unlocking and flashing ROM's for now. The tablet is not sold in my country and if I brick it I wouldn't be able to repair nor to buy a new one.
I am not a newbie on flashing ROM's in general because I still own a HD2 but I do know there are risks on the process.
Thus, I will probably wait for the 4.2 update to decide between unlocking it or not.

I hear you, you do have a point!
I agree that this update really improved the speed of my tab. Might not be clean rom fast, but it's still warrantied fast
It's a bit faster now. At this rate we'll be fully happy with the speed around April. For me it does what I want it to just fine So what if I have to wait 1 second instead of 0.5 second for an app to open? And the very, very rare (no, I don't get them a lot. once a day, at most.) ANR messages are a whole lot less irritating than the constant "Are you sure" UAC rubbish I deal with daily on W7. (technologically impaired clients. Ugh.)

I, too, am not risking unlocking. While it is for sale here quite regularly and the EU covers warranty concerns, I bought it from a store that's not known for its great customer service (Media Markt, for you dutchies&germans.) and I didn't get a chance to use NVFlash. (By the time I heard about the idea, the first update had already auto installed. ) I'm also generally rather unlucky when it comes to electronics, stuff tends to break. And I need the tablet for work, so I can't afford to have it send out for repair for weeks if I mess up.
@ShadowLea
I have exactly the same problem as you, but Media Markt isn't good for repair?
Must I unfreeze all system apps before the update?

Yes, you must unfreez all system. Any modification to properties (build.props) file also needs to roll back. The device must be in the "stock" condition or update will failed.

Rooting question

Hello all,
I read a lot of stuff here about root but I couldn't find an exact answer to what I look for.
I would like to know if rooting:
1. Loses the fingerprint?
2. If xposed Amplify really helps improving the standby drain or other xposed app. (at the moment I am sitting at between 0.8%-1.1% / hour overnight and I find it unacceptable)
3. Main disadvantage if rooted (besides loosing warranty because I don't care)
thank you.

1. No you will not lose the fingerprint sensor, even custom kernels have now fingerprint support.
2. Yes it does, I'm using it and I couldn't be any more happier.
3. The main disadvantage is that when an update arrives, then the only way to update is via smart switch ( a pc application) and you will have to re-root after that, though I don't consider it as a problem.
A big thanks to you kid xda user.

It basically installs a new firmware, but I think it doesn't wipe your apps or pictures, but root will be gone and besides the Knox flag, your phone will return to official status.

The international version of the S7, the Exynos-based SM-G930F, can be rooted e.g. using the CF auto root kernel.

There is absolutely no way to unlock bootloader on kit kat or newer, period. Attempting to use anything custom of any kind will only lead to a brick and then it requires JTAG to recover the device but even that isn't guaranteed.

Question: If I never intend to use the phone on a cell tower again - meaning I'm just using it at home on wifi - does that somehow allow me to do more than just root on 4.4? Even after debloating, this thing is getting really clunky and slow.
I wish there was a way to revert to a less-resource-demanding OS so that this phone could be faster for browsing, watching Netflix, controlling smart home stuff, etc.

If you have 4.4 then you're stuck with it. Your only other options are using Xposed or using Safestrap Recovery with modified stock ROMs but I think Safestrap is no longer available unless you find someone that has a copy somewhere, I think the modified stock ROMs are still available, not sure, I have the Straight Talk S3 and use the Verizon custom ROMs, never used Verizon S3 or Safestrap but I'm familiar enough with the Verizon S3 to know what you can and can't flash it with.

SM-G930U Currently Rootable - Yes or No?

Black Friday is quickly approaching, and the SM-G930U (Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 - US Unlocked version) is on sale at Best Buy, but I am also considering the HTC 10 which is also on sale. Both are similar in price. I can't make up my mind which one I want, but the tie breaker will go to whichever can be rooted, preferably systemless root.
So... Is the SM-G930U rootable? If so, is it systemless?
Exynos is rootable, not snapdragon.
Alright thanks for the update. I know this can change at any moment but I don't want to hold my breath since it's been a very long time for such a popular phone to not be broken, and I've gone through tons of threads on here where some say it's rootable and others say no, falsely getting my hopes up but they're probably still getting the versions confused.

Sorry, I thought it was the other user replying. But yeah, not sure what to tell ya. I flashed the recommended zip and set my governor to ondemand, got no freezes or lag. Kinda of? Mine would be suffering from performance issues if I didn't change the governor and flash the fix zip. The engboot root method defaults the cpu governor to performance, causing issues. Anyone who's doing some reading on the forums should be able to find the fixes I did though.
As for going back to stock, that's only once nougat comes out, because I rather be on stock nougat than rooted marshmallow.
