Rooting question - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hello all,
I read a lot of stuff here about root but I couldn't find an exact answer to what I look for.
I would like to know if rooting:
1. Loses the fingerprint?
2. If xposed Amplify really helps improving the standby drain or other xposed app. (at the moment I am sitting at between 0.8%-1.1% / hour overnight and I find it unacceptable)
3. Main disadvantage if rooted (besides loosing warranty because I don't care)
thank you.

1. No you will not lose the fingerprint sensor, even custom kernels have now fingerprint support.
2. Yes it does, I'm using it and I couldn't be any more happier.
3. The main disadvantage is that when an update arrives, then the only way to update is via smart switch ( a pc application) and you will have to re-root after that, though I don't consider it as a problem.

A big thanks to you kid xda user.
Cheers

I thought after knox is tripped there's no way to get an ota update, does smart switch wipe the phone and install a new firmware or just update without wiping?

It basically installs a new firmware, but I think it doesn't wipe your apps or pictures, but root will be gone and besides the Knox flag, your phone will return to official status.

How are you rooting a gs-7 I thought there's no way truly to read it yet if there is some way linked me to that site. Thanks

Cf autoroot with Knox tripped

The international version of the S7, the Exynos-based SM-G930F, can be rooted e.g. using the CF auto root kernel.
I'm not aware your SM-G930T (T-Mobile USA) already can.

PSA: DO NOT UPDATE TO MF3 - You lose Motochopper, Loki, Rootkeeper and ODIN Downgrade

If you want to keep root, don't update to today's MF3 OTA as it break motochopper exploit and prevents Rootkeeper from working
Some members have sacrificed themselves:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43420412&postcount=57
Anybody knows if it break Loki too?
It has been well documented that trying to ODIN back to MDL does not work and causes an immediate fail
If you wish to have the new features then run GoldenEye ROM, a fantastic i9505 MF8 based ROM that runs smooth as melted butter. It also has all latest MF3 additions such as App2SD, audio flickering and sms fix
I have been trying to tell everyone that...
DO NOT UPDATE PERIOD

If you can't root, you can't install custom recovery. Can't install custom recovery, can't loki...
If using customer recovery, I don't think the update will apply.
The question should be answered once root is achieved.

It might break motochopper, but what tells you that once another root method is found, loki will still work? that was my question
It's not going to break loki I don't think, it has KNOX but thats a seperate bootloader that allows apps to run with full security, our phone doesnt boot into Knox mode.

It was made specifically for the active. It will not run on other devices. You would have to modify the apk or make a root method off of it

Might have to do the same thing we had to do in the Motorola Atrix HD - edit some of the XML files out and then flash it though ODIN.
I just got my S4 today and updated it outside of the box. I'm now trying to root.
I know that the motochopper method is broken, but is the odin method broken?

Not the odin method, forgive me if I mispoke. I can't link vids yet, but there's a method on YT that involves this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219803
The software simply says "PASS" and your phone is rooted.

To late Can't downgrade. You'll have to wait and be patient until a new exploit is found for the new firmware.
To boot I did the same thing. My S4 came with AMDB installed. I updated out of box to AMDL without even checking first in the parking lot of the AT&T store. Got home and luckily found AMDL was still rootable.

Roms for AT&T LTE SM-P907A?

I just picked up one and successfully rooted it. However, none of the TWRP verion would work. Yea I know they are for the P900 and P905 but I tried them anyway since none has been made for the P907 yet. Anyone is developing a rom for the P907 anytime soon? Or if you know a beta or something? I've searched all over google but nothing came up. I guess I will just have to keep waiting :/
Safe Strap for the Note 3 works on this tablet. I'm running it with no issues.

Knox 00 ?
Knox increases? I have rooted my p907a with Towelroot and knox is 0. as I use? as TWRP?
regards
No roms
Fore now it seams like there is no developing going on other than rom s to p900 .....:crying:
................................................................
I have the sm-p907a and was able to flash back to a build that allowed the towelroot. I successfully rooted but I'm having an issue where the update is getting force pushed and updating without consent.
Is there a way to turn off the auto updates. I searched all the settings and did not see the option to do so. Or maybe an mod/app etc...
Anything short of turning wifi off after every use will get the update pushed onto the tablet and disabling the root.
Thanks!

I hate to be a stick in the mud but I agree. Especially since this phone is on lollipop. The N4 might have a chance on KK but I don't see that happening soon either. On the bright side this S6 is running great the way it is and has some nice features so I'm thankful for that.
You know I used to root to get decent performance of of a lagging phone, but I'm not sure I'm missing root that much. Now granted there are a few apps that I miss from no root. But I think I can live without root on this phone at the moment. Subject to change to
I'd love root for the ability to theme (theme store themes are garbage) as well as the ability too add things that should have never been removed. Stock browser, smart manager, etc.
Side note, I really hate that I can't draw on pics/screenshots like I could on my Note 3/4 and my s5. Samsung removes features I use in favor of what? /rant off

Why do you say it will "likely not be rooted"? Is Lollipop that much harder for the devs to root or something? Or is support dwindling?
I need root mainly because I need to be able to tether for my job on a daily basis and I'm not about to dish out even more $ to VZW.....my unlimited data is my unlimited data and I'll use it how I please.

Ever since the Mid Galaxy S4 area rooting has been pretty much useless anyway. The most I can do with a rooted S5 is flash lightened TW software which I can do on a non rooted phone. You can flash anything like Cyanogen or custom kernels so rooting now a days is pointless. With that said though it would still be cool if we could

This is not entirely true and depends on your usage. I use automation apps and without root, you don't have the ability to turn on and off GPS, Data, etc. There are other benefits to root as well such as ad blocking.

@1663 Tripping knox will void your warranty (unless you are in the EU it's debatable). Secondly you won't be able to use Samsung Pay.
I could care less about Samsung Pay. Wherever they accept SP they will accept Google Wallet, for the most part. I just bought mine brand new and it came with this build. I'm really regretting this device. I hope someone roots it, but it may be quite a while.

I could not wait for someone to root the newest version of lollipop for Verizon, just purchased a rooted phone from Swappa.com and sold my S6. That is a faster way, IMO, Instead of waiting for someone to root OF1.

Root - yes? no? and why?

Hey guys, I'm really debating. I very much want to improve the quality of the camera on the device and it can only be done with the gcam, the problem that for getting the best out of gcam i need root. Basically this is the only reason for me. So I turn it to you, do you think, should Root be made to the device?
Hello mate, you have no choice if you want to install GCAM and some others cool stuff in the future, root is necessary.

For 90% of users, it's not necessary to get root since Oreo and Pie but to install some app like GCAM and Vanced, it's necessary because to modify the OS implantation and then to be able to install those apps.
Root give you the full and entire access of your phone. With caution.

If you have to ask for a reason, root may not be for you.
With root you will lose Google Widevine L1. So you can't see HD contents on Prime Video, Netflix and similar.
Despite this, it is useful for some reasons that khalisz has already said.
I think rooting and voiding your 700euro phone warranty is not worth it at all for a few apps.

I don't believe it voids warranty. OnePlus encourages development and root. If u even go to their site for some devices they show u can install stock with custom recovery. Did that on a few past devices.

OnePlus has always been dev-friendly. I always root because of my apps. I have games I've been playing for over 8 years that I'd lose the data for if I didn't root
This phone is so developer friendly why would you not root? You won't screw up the phone by rooting and if you're someone who has never rooted before then this would be a good device to learn on.

For me rooting is not worth it since i can do all i want without rooting. Sideload mods apks,. Use adb command (native call recording, force 90hz all time etx) . Plus oxygen os is already a modded version of stock android. Most of what oxygent os include u would have to root a pixel to get it. While not rooted all my apps work. No worries about my bank app not working (yes most bank apps work but UNTIL WHEN) or netflix and other movie apps refuses to play at higher resolution only because of root.
Getting my updates over the air. Root is great for but those whi have the time.
