1. With the phone powered off, press the VOL UP + VOL DOWN KEY together + POWER KEY .
2. The device will display different BOOT OPTIONS
3. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to SELECT
Tip: If the device reboots, you may have waited to long to make a selection, you will need to begin the process again.
4. The device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress ( logo with Exclamation mark)
5. Press and hold the VOL DOWN key, then tap and release the VOL UP key.
Tip: You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on step 5, try a force reboot by pressing the power Key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.
6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in BLUE)
7. Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to wipe cache partition and the POWER Key to SELECT this option.
8. The device will then perform the partition wipe
Many thanks to motorola for this one. Getting some use today.

How to boot into System Revovery/nandroid/ from a power off situation.

I was trying out a new setup on my phone when it got stuck on the Motorola M. I found that you can boot into System Recovery with out going through the app and doing a recovery boot. This is not the factory manual reboot procedure.
***Boot into System Recovery**
Steps
1. If stuck in M logo screen or Dexter's screen, pull battery
2. Insert battery and hit power button
3. As soon as you hit power button hold the Volume up button down until the unboxing logo comes up.
**Updated with info provided by 3rdstring**
And now you can use nandroid to go back to a earlier version of dexter's or what ever you have on your card.
I would also recommend to wipe the dalvik cache, and cache partition. You do not need to do a factory reset.
Hope this helps others out, no need to reflash to stock version when your phone bricks.
**Factory Reboot steps***
To Manually Reset
If there are significant problems with your device or you are not able to follow the steps above please use the following process to manually reset the phone:
Turn off phone
Press Power key + Camera Key + GalleryKey to power on the phone and bring up the recovery screen
When the Triangle/Exclamation point screen appears, press Volume Up + Gallery Key down and tap the camera key to show the recovery menu.
When the recovery window appears, use the volume up/down keys to navigate the menu and the camera key to enter your selection.
Select Wipe data/factory reset
Select Reboot Phone
You should only need to hold in the volume up button while powering on the phone to boot into OpenRecovery once it's installed either via Dexter's System Recovery app or through the directions on ModMyMobile.

I do believe that is what I said. Tested it myself. Hold the power button to turn on like normal, then just hold the volume up button down.

Motorola Motoluxe Will Not Boot!

Hello,
I have rooted my device and then downloaded CWM and tried to install Cyanogen Mod, I have tried this before and it just rebooted with nothing happening. This time the device would not boot past the motorola logo. I took out the battery and attempted to boot but again the device got stuck at the moto logo.
Can anyone help?
I am terribly sorry if this has been asked before or sounds like a nooby question, desktops and laptops are more my thing, don't know as much about mobile devices. Also there are not many helpful threads on the internet as apparently this is an underrated phone :/
Thanks for any help
The Motoluxe page suggested I do this
1. Power up the phone by pressing the VOL UP + VOL DOWN KEYtogether + PWR KEY
2. The device will start up with Motorola logo and power up to a little Androidman logo with Exclamation mark

4. The device will display BLUE Text on a Black background
5. Press the VOL DOWN key till the Wipe data / factory reset is selected andpress the PWR key to confirm the selection
6. Use the VOL DOWN key again to select YES - delete all user data and pressthe PWR key to CONFIRM
7. The device will then start performing the Factory Data Reset
8. Once the Formatting is complete , press the PWR key to confirm a REBOOT
9. The message rebooting is displayed on the phone
10. The device will reboot and start the normal power up sequence

[Q] Nexus 5 stuck on boot animation after a wipe all data/factory reset....

Hello,
I had an issue of my Nexus 5 restarting whenever I tried to unlock the screen. Since, I have searched several websites and found that I need to do a factory reset to fix the issue. And, I followed the below steps:
1.If your phone is on, power it off.
2.Press & hold Volume Down and Volume Up, and then press & hold Power simultaneously until the device turns on. You will see the word Start with an arrow drawn around it.
3.Press Volume Down twice to designate Recovery mode.
4.Press Power to restart into Recovery mode. You will see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.
5.While holding down Power, press Volume Up.
6.Use the volume keys to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press Power to select it.
7.Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press Power to select it.
When everything is completed. I tried restarting the phone by clicking the power button, and what I see is the Boot Animation . Waited for an hour, two , three and five. Still i see the same. Please help me. I tried to search for similar posts with no luck.
Thanks in advance.

Stock recovery wipes everything AFAIK so your user data and the OS are gone... You have to flash the stock build (factory images) or take the opportunity to flash a new recovery and a custom rom.
EDIT: maybe not I actually never used it.

It doesn't touch /system or /boot. Only /data, but not excluding /data/media like custom recovery would

Moto G - Followed the RESET instructions, still does not work

Here is what I found for 2nd gen. resetting:
External Reset (KitKat)
If you are unable to access the phone's menu to perform the standard reset you can attempt an external factory reset.
Notes:
When using this feature; everything is deleted from the device.
Reset will require a minimum battery level of 25%. If you are unable to perform a reset, please charge for 20-30 minutes and try reset again.
1. With the phone powered off, press the VOL DOWN KEY for 2-3 seconds then POWER key then release.
5. Press and hold the VOL UP key for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP key tap and release the POWER key
Tip: You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on step 6, try a force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.
6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in BLUE)
7. Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to Wipe data / factory reset and the POWER Key to select this option
